don't like giving negative reviews. Before, I was impressed with the quality of staff and my experiences at Fabio Scalia. I was a model for a haircut. It was supposed to be some version a long, layered cut. I'm extremely unhappy with the results. It was a dramatic change from what I had. The haircut looks terrible. The hairstyle is extremely difficult to maintain. There was almost no communication between the stylist and myself, in terms of what she was doing -- and the intended result. I came with healthy, waist-length hair. I left with an ugly, nightmare haircut. Most of my hair was cut to a dramatic, bob-length layer. As she was cutting, there were 6"-12" segments, flying on my lap. There is easily a 12" difference between the longest and the shortest pieces. There were thin, stringy pieces towards the back. The end result resembled some horror hybrid between a long version of "The Rachel" -- an 80's shag -- and escaped psychiatric patient from some horror movie. At minimum, it's absolute nightmare to style. It makes my natural, curly hair look like an electrified, sloppy mess. There was absolutely no prior discussion about my lifestyle, styling routine -- or what I was looking for. I understand this was a haircutting class. However, it's also unreasonable to treat a human being like a mannequin. I really wish that the trainee stylist posted pictures of what she was trying to accomplish, both to inform prospective models -- and to find an appropriate candidate. It really sucks when the haircut is a drastic change -- and cannot really be corrected. Sure, it's "just hair". But it will take 6-9 months to grow out. Meanwhile, I have to live with this ugly haircut. I'm also stuck using styling products -- and wearing my hair in a bun. My hair looks absolutely gross, even when tied back into a ponytail. I'm very upset -- and extremely disappointed. Major bummer. read more

I had my hair colored today in this salon and when I took the robe off I had stains on the back in my sweater from the color. I was told by the owner, Fabio himself, that they are not responsible for my cloths and that I should have taken my sweater off before putting the robe on. He was very rude to me and dismissive. I've been coming to this place for years paying very high prices for their services. $180 for a single process color, $150 for a haircut. Despite moving out of Brooklyn I continued to come to this salon, driving over an hour to get there. I was treated very poorly today by the owner himself and I won't be back. Amazing overall experience! A friend recommended the salon, and specifically Guilia, for some brunette work. I'm also skeptical of new salons because I've gone to multiple and walked out with the opposite of anything I've asked for. I'm a natural brunette but had wanted some dimension and previous salons have inter wore red that was blonde highlights and a light balayage. This has always left me with a majorly stark line as my hair grows out, which I'm not a fan of. But not at Fabio's! As a new client, Guilia sat down with me and went through my inspo pics and discussed how to tailor the colors to best fit my skin tone and natural hair color. She explained everything she'd need to do to achieve what I had wanted, back to my natural color with dimension and some subtle face frame highlights. Today was my second time going to Fabio Scalia and I have to say both times I've been very impressed. The first time I walked in after another salon canceled my hair appointment without the curiosity of letting me know before I got there. Upset and in need of a hair cut, I walked a few blocks down and walked into this salon. Not only did the receptionist find me an appointment that day but the stylist did an amazing job getting the cut just right. Today I went in to get my hair color freshened for the new year and once again the stylist did not disappoint. This time I saw Giulia and she was able to blend my old golden highlights and natural brown color together in way that looks very natural. She was very good at asking me what I wanted and took her time getting the color and look just right. First time trying this place after I heard great things about it but left a tad underwhelmed by it all. The 3 stars are really for Guilia who colored my hair and did a great job and was lovely. The rest was just not what I'd expect when you're paying $200+ for a single color and blow out. There was a no scalp massage or anything like that and my blow out was not good. Plus the girl Samantha wasn't very friendly. She didn't give me what I asked for and my hair looked like it wasn't brushed. I've been seeing Rocco at Fabio Scalia Salon for a couple of years now, he is without doubt the best colorist I've ever been to in the city. I get highlights only once in awhile, but he does my regular color about every 3-4 week, not sure what he does, but I'm always stopped and complimented. Oh, and as an extra, he is sooooooo nice as well as nice looking. Nelson does a great blowout, really everyone in this salon is super nice, including Fabio who gives a great cut. Walking in I was so impressed by the salon's cleanliness and sophistication. I asked for a coffee and within minutes I was brought an espresso with a glass of water. I got single process color with Rocco, who was extremely friendly and knowledgable about hair. He patiently explained to me the color process and made a recommendation which I went for. I am so so happy with the result. You can tell quality and experience when you see it and Rocco's work is exceptional. While I waited for my hair to process I asked if they could fit me in for a haircut and immediately they accommodated my request and I was squeezed in for a cut with Nordia.
