Dane treated me to a taste of heaven yesterday. After a sublime head massage, full foil, and lovely cut in his chair, I walked out the door wearing a new look and feeling like a new person. Previously, I had been going to someone who expressed distaste for my hair (it was too fine for layers and too damaged to wear at my preferred length, that person said). Dane said he loved my hair. Here's the 1st part of the joke: A guy walks into a woman-owned salon... No joke actually, but it I felt somewhat unwelcome when I arrived for an appointment. No smile/greeting from the stylist...just a blank look with a dry, "do you have an appointment?" I'm used to this from my usual "chain" haircut spots, but that's when i'm spending 30$ for a cut. This time was different and the owner/stylist knew i'd be dropping a lot more than that. 3-stars for comfortable waiting chairs. read more

I attended the salon on Oct 14th, 2022 and saw Carmen, she was polite and courteous. However I do not recommend her if you have ethnic hair, I have traveled quite a bit and visited lots of hair salons and I can tell when I stylist is not knowledgeable with certain type of hair. My hair is curly and not coarse by any mean. She applied too much leave in and oil which weigh Down my hair and unfortunately she charged me $140 for a simple blow out which is something I have never encountered before , I have been charged up to 100$ in high-end luxury salons where they used top of the line product like Kerastase. She explained to me that it was because of my hair texture, length and the time it took so she charged me 3x the price , and quite frankly the blow dry was poorly executed . The way she charged me is Simply poor business practice and unfair treatment of clients with ethnic hair. I'm not the type of person to make a scene and one of these "too nice " to say anything , but If you a have thick curly hair or , coarse hair ,this is not the stylist for you or maybe avoid the salon as each stylist seem to run their own show and may not be trained for certain hair type (i am not sure ) I am writing this review to save anybody who may have ethnic hair time and money . read more

With my former salon struggling through the pandemic, I sought out Escada for a gray touch up, Brazilian Blowout and haircut. My primary goal was to find a salon that performed Brazilian and specialized in sleek treatments in hopes to switch and build a new relationship. We had a consult and while my stylist attempted to talk me into Keratin (something I have tried and does not work for me), agreed to perform these services split over two appointments. I set myself up in their computer system and booked the appointment which included details of the services booked each day - also, repeatedly texted & emailed to me to confirm. When I came in for my first appointment (grays & cut), only the front part of my hair was touched up. When I requested she look through and touch up the rest of my hair I was met with some friction but ultimately, more dye was applied. With regard to the dye service - a good portion of the grays at my temples were missed and within 1 shampoo the dye started washing out. Then I was told that I was not actually getting a hair cut that day. There was not time and I was incorrect that it had been booked with my BB. I'm fairly flexible and can roll with things, however, considering the friction I had already experienced, and this being my first appointment I was somewhat alarmed - especially considering how many times it was emailed and texted to me that I was getting a hair cut that day. We agreed to move the cut to the following appointment scheduled for Brazilian (no biggie). I was then handed off to a second stylist for the wash and blow-dry (this was as planned and I had been comfortable with this set up when I booked the appointment). However, the shampoo and conditioning products used seems to have damaged my Brazilian. I was clear I've been doing BB since 2016 and exclusively use BB products. I am certain this was not caused by the dye, as that was only spotty at my roots, the damage to the BB seal is throughout all of my hair. While I was in the 7th week or so of the BB, I walked out of this salon with a completely different hair texture than I walked in with so it's not the "normal degradation of the BB over time". To make matters worse, the blow dry was terrible. I left with hair feeling like straw, it was still damp in some areas at the back of my head, and my ends were completely fried. I hoped this was just a texture issue due to the bad drying technique but after doing my hair at home, it's clear that in addition to refreshing the Brazilian, I will need more hair cut off to repair the damage to my ends. While I am extremely flexible, roll with a lot, and don't care much about stylists being late or appointments being moved - I DO CARE about my hair. I am so strict with my hair that I seldom style it going as long as possible between washes, often use BB masques & ion spray to preserve the BB and avoid over heating my ends. I have canceled my BB appointment and found another salon, as this salon did nothing to build trust with me as a client. Lastly, the dye was extremely expensive compared to my other salon. While price was not my first concern, having the dye last more than 1 wash certainly was my expectation. I would have rated this salon a single star, however, I realize others may not have such unique needs. read more

She's lovely to talk to, she's knowledgeable about all kinds of hair types, and it's an adorable little shop. Was never given an actual quote of how much my service (bleach & tone) would cost, and was denied a patch test which would've only taken a couple minutes. Instead, the stylist talked me into getting ombre when I wanted full coverage. The day of my appointment I had to cancel due to a neck injury and Carmen told me the cancellation fee would be a whopping $130. I've had full bleach, cut AND color that cost less than that before. She claimed that not only was that half the cost of the service, but that people would usually have to pay the full cost, as if she was doing me some huge favor. When I pointed out I got an email that said paying half the cost of the service is standard for last-minute cancellations, she jumped the price to $200. There's no way she's anything but a liar. Sketchy and shady AF. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

I've been almost everywhere, bang, Antonio salon, VAIN- I'm not sure if it's because no one in Seattle has ever seen curly hair before, or because every girl here wants a balayage, but my hair always looked worse after getting it cut/colored. I'd like to give Angela props for navigating the unprecedented protocols of Covid with diligence and grace. As one of the many providers offering services to clientele throughout the pandemic she has been expected to put her safety aside without any recognition from the state as an essential worker and without priority access to vaccines. These times are hard on everyone and I cannot imagine expecting more of Angela than I would of myself in terms of planning for appropriate Covid precautions when I visit her space. I've been a client of Angela's for over 10 years. I used to live down the block from her studio, and when I moved to Shoreline it was never a question that I would continue to see her for my hair needs. Angela provided the first hair cut for both of my kids (now 11 and 6). While I personally won't get my hair done anywhere else, I will take my kids to the local salon for their cuts. I reached out 2 weeks ago to find out if Angela could give my 6 year old an undercut bob haircut. Shaving half of my child's beautiful hair was not something I'd chance to the local salons. I've been in one other time during Covid for my own haircut so I was aware of the protocol for masking, temperature check, and limited number of clients in the space. Our appointment happened when there were no other clients in the space so I was able to be in the studio during the cut. I felt very comfortable with the cleanliness and Covid Protocols taken before and during our appointment. You can see from the photo how happy my daughter is with the haircut! Very disappointed. I read the good reviews here and decided to have Brazilian treatment with Angela. My hair was not too frizzy or curly but I just wanted to make sure I won't need to heat up my hair after each wash. I consulted with Angela and she assured me that with the Brazilian treatment I can get rid of the frizz and it smoothes my hair. I personally think a good stylist should know what she's talking about. Three days after my treatment when I washed my hair my hair went bank to its original state. And I paid $230 for this treatment. I even went over there and showed her my hair and she told me that I book a 30 minute session so that she can educate me on how to blow dry my hair. The only reason I did the treatment was that I did not want to style my hair every time I wash it. She was totally confused on why my hair type reacted in such way to the treatment. Which to me is just lack of experience. I refused to go there again so that she can "teach" me how to blow dry my hair. I asked her she just had an expensive flat iron on my hair and it is fare that she charges me for styling but she totally ignored me. I am sure most of the other salons at least care about their customer service more and if they mess up with your hair they will partially reimburse you. I talked to my friends who did the procedure before and they all agreed that they haven't noticed a thing about hair. read more

But mostly he is magical with cut and color. And if you are not satisfied, he will work until you are. I brought my daughter in for her first color. I went to Angela because of all of her glowing yelp reviews, but she is NO GOOD! RESIST. RESIST. RESIST!!!!! The first thing I got from her was a terrible Brazilian Blowout which she "fixed" for me a couple of weeks later, but I still have to blow fry my hair with a blow drier and a big, round brush. And you can see where I got a proper BB six inches down from my scalp where it is stick straight. It's just that everything from there up is totally frizzy and curly if I let it air-dry because she obviously knows NOTHING about smoothing treatments. But, hey, I'm a nice person and decided to give her a second try... which was just touching up my roots. OK? That is not a hard job. My next appointment was scheduled for 4 days before I had to check myself into a hospital for breast cancer surgery, and Angela knew this, I called her to say that I might be 5 minutes late (I was in Seattle all day seeing doctors (I live on Vashon, so every trip into Seattle I need to get as much done as possible) and she said "Um, didn't you get my email?" No. Angela. I have been gone from my house since very early this morning... so no. I did not get an email from you. "well, I didn't go to work today because my son has a cold. I guess I should have called you." Yeah. That would have been WAAAAAY better than going all the way up to Shoreline and worrying that I might be 2 or 3 minutes late. Lady. You made the LAME LIST of 2017 and there are already a LOT of names on that list. When I finally did get home that evening, I looked at my emails and my appointment was for 1pm. I made it a month ago and the time stamp on the email was 1:05pm informing me that she would not be in for the day. SO GET THIS!!!!!! I called her up and mentioned this to her and she had the NERVE to be a snot on the phone to me and call me a liar and did not apologize. Also, the dude who works with her in the salon is an idiot who would just break into our conversation, yelling over 2 competing hairdryers to try to say something to us and he is über obnoxious. And if you enjoy being frightened by giant plastic cockroaches that look completely real and bitches who don't care and don't know what they are doing, then this is your dream come true. read more

Dane and Angela are my two favorite people! They really blew me away with their skills. I went in to get a pompadour and a blowout: Dane did the cutting while Angela handled the keratin. Honestly, they made my experience so pleasant with the conversations we had and their hospitality. But what is more is watching them work with precision. Dane was always making sure every strand was just even and lined up with the rest and never left his eyes off every angle of my head and Angela knew how to bend my hair with the iron to get the right look. Simone has been my stylist for over 3 years now... I am sure the other ladies are wonderful as well. The main reason I see Simone is the way she fades the sides. It's not jagged it's blended... And it grows out in an amazing way. I can adapt my hair in a way that looks good throughout the growing process. Having trust in your stylist is super important to me. I haven't used hair gel, paste etc since I've seen her! She always gives good advice on hair care products and is very knowledgable about what's available. Davie always leaves me walking out of the salon feeling and looking like a million bucks! I have in the past had long term hair stylists ten plus years, but for other reasons we parted ways. I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review! I would like to say that my Love Affair with Salon Escada started back in early 2013 when my friend referred me to see Angela. I had just had a terrible experience with a well known salon in Downtown Seattle and really wanted someone I could trust to fix their mistake. My first time meeting Angela was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a salon. Simply because, she sat me down and fully assessed my hair. She could tell right off the bat that I was a gym junky because I wash my hair too often after a workout. She could tell it was curly, even though I straightened that morning! She spoke about how thick my hair was and my genes based on the thickness level. Who knows that stuff?! - A professional, that's who. I trust Angela so much that I took my mom in for a consultation this past summer. My mom does NOT trust easily when it comes to people cutting her hair. After speaking with Angela, my mom has said a phrase I didn't even think she knew "Angela, that sounds amazing. I fully trust you. Do what you think is best to sooth my hair". Angela has now been with me through trims, chops and bangs. She is known as the "Hair Whisper" between me and my friends. I refer her to anyone who deserves to be referred to her. She's an absolute delight and always lets you know the pros and cons before any crazy decision you may have. I recommend bringing in a pinterest board of your thoughts. It's her favorite thing to go through with her clients. She's brilliant and has the up most professional mind set I've ever seen in a hair artist. Go see her. You won't regret it. I've been seeing Angela for 6 years now. She's simply the best stylist I've ever found. I love that she's flat out honest about what will and won't work for my hair.
