Unfortunately I was delayed and only arrived at 11 again - but this time they had plenty! The employee told us they boosted production for the weekend since they unexpectedly ran out too early the previous week. Great for us! Sourdough Foccacia ($13) - This foccacia has a good crisp on the outside, which deteriorated a bit since it was sitting in the car for a couple of hours before consumption. It comes in a nice form fitting paper box. The interior is open and airy looking, but it's actually quite moist, chewy and somewhat tough especially on the crust. It has an exceptional fermented-ish sour taste and is decorated with sea salt specks on top. It's even more sour than what could be found in most sourdough breads in SF. I can tell this is extremely high quality but the taste profile is just a little too much for me. (4/5) Onion Cookie ($4) - Woah, this is a really unique cookie. There's a caramelized onion aroma that wafts right into the nose as the cookie is removed from the packaging, which is soaked through with oil. The texture is soft, yet pliable, allowing the cookie to bend quite a bit without breaking. First bite - it's not too sweet and has an exceptional umami-savoriness. Kind of like a miso cookie with some cinnamon that works so well with the savory notes. So strange in taste yet delicious. I expected to find onion pieces embedded within, but it's pretty evenly textured. (5/5) Salmonberry Goods serves some very high quality treats. They are pretty adventurous with their goods - I'm surprised they don't make anything with actual salmonberry though!

We did the farm box subscription for a few months and it was my favorite part of the week for some time. It felt like Chopped, I would get this big bag of beautiful, local goods delivered to my door every week (so convenient) and then would piece together the puzzle of recipes for the week using as much as I could. Some of our favorite meals came from the farm box era. It's very convenient if you don't like having to spend lots of time in the grocery store and want to celebrate the beautious diverse bounties from our local farmers! Recently I was excited to try the baked goods and stopped by the Ballard Farmer's Market to pick up some bread (and sweet treats ). We grabbed a loaf of the sourdough and the berry pop tart, and I will say the berry pop tart did not make it to the car. It was delicious 10/10 I never wanted it to end I will say that I was very disappointed with the sourdough loaf :( I always enjoy a good blister, but it lacked depth of flavor, seemed maybe under proofed and was a bit dry. And I wouldn't generally be this picky, but for a $10 loaf, the score was a bit sloppy and made me lowkey sad :(

The store is nicely laid out, very similar to a Whole Foods. The produce is where the entrance is and I like how each time I've come the produce is being looked over, stocked and someone is on standby for questions about the availability of things in that area. There is a seafood counter that is usually attended by a couple of people then the aisles are horizontal with the registers. There is self-checkout with someone managing that and a few manned registers. The staff in this area always nice and helpful. Which as a given is really nice. The store seems to be well staffed overall, but you'll likely have to have to go toward the front end if any help is needed seeing as how the store is so neatly and well stocked. I don't really see staff stocking in the middle of the day. Again, PCC is not my first choice but if your income supports it, this is a nice store, with friendly staff and within the Ballard Blocks so you can make more than one stop without even having to leave the parking lot.

They have a gender friendly bathroom, which means that you're in a room, in a stall, at your most personal and private moments, and when you step out of the stall, you could be standing next to a person of the opposite sex... As a woman, I find this rather disconcerting. I stepped out of a stall to see a huge man standing at the sink. This is rather disconcerting. It doesn't feel safe, and doesn't respect my privacy. A man must have designed this. Please rectify this.

It's a small bread with custard inside, going for $3, which felt ok to spend today. Other stuff there are a little more expensive so I almost never go for them. The bread and custard combination was great and it made a nice little snack/breakfast item with coffee. I wish they put more custard in it, though. Bread on each end needed a little more custard to make the taste feel more balanced.

Moonrise Bakery has a pretty good selection of croissants and other baked goods, which intrigued us enough that we ended up purchasing two: Kouign Amann ($5.95) - Overbaked and burnt on the surface, the exterior layer flakes off and tastes extremely acrid. The caramelized sugar layer is also baked hard resulting in a much firmer toffee-like texture rather than more sticky caramel. It's not too sweet and there's a bit of salt sprinkled in the center to bring out the flavor (although since it's overcooked, the flavor is on the more burnt side). The dough itself is layered pretty well and the interior texture is ideal, airy and chewy. Unfortunately the acridity on the exterior really dampened my enjoyment of the pastry. (3/5) Pain au Chocolat ($5.65) - This chocolate croissant is crisp and flaky with a rich buttery taste. It has pretty good lamination and honeycomb structure. Two classic chocolate batons added to the interior make this a solid croissant. I have no real complaints about this one; it's definitely a good eat. (5/5) I'd return to Moonrise to try some of their other baked goods. As a reminder to myself: don't order anything that looks too dark in color and/or looks burnt. I got the Gruyère pull-apart warmed up; it was delicious and super fluffy. I loved the bakery's vibe; they were playing the new Harry Styles album, which is extra brownie points for me!! They also had a cool assortment of wines, olive oils, tinned fish, and sauces to purchase, which was fun to browse while my pastry warmed up. I'd love to go back soon and try the coffee and the other pastries as well.
