Thursday night wing deal is why I come by. Honestly, if this wasn't a staple of mine in college that I have dear memories of, I would never return. Service is always incredibly slow and sometimes they forget about you. It is always super loud to the point where you have to yell for anyone to hear you and after you leave the place, your ears thank you for removing yourself from a place that has such loud noises. Despite all that, the chicken wing deal here used to be the best there was. The wings are on the smaller side, but it used to be $5 for 2lbs of wings. It isn't like that anymore. I think its 2lbs of wings for $7 now. I get the dry rub and the buffalo as my top two choices of wing flavors. The blue cheese sauce for the wings here is one of the very few blue cheese sauces I enjoy. Normally, blue cheese is a hard pass for me. read more

It's been a while since I've been to the new version of Sally's. It is open and has nice big booths. Perfect for a larger group or a place to work. It was quiet on a Tuesday night and a few tables were working on projects together. This seemed like a good idea. I attempted to use the guest wi-fi and my computer didn't like it and said it wasn't secure. T-mobile's internet service also was spotty here too. My guess is there are a lot of people using it in the condos above. We ordered some appetizers for a group and used the QR code menu. It doesn't seem like this has been updated and the didn't have the cauliflower appetizer. The server offered to get us a physical menu and they only had one for the whole place and someone was using it. We were ok using the QR code as long as the menu gets updated in the future. This could become a pain point for servers and customers. Food: the buffalo chicken wrap was decent and spicy. It was filled with what seemed like quality chicken and lettuce. I ordered a side of veggies for an extra charge. Otherwise this would have come with chips. Fries/tots for extra charge as well. Appetizers: we ordered chips and salsa/guacamole. The salsa had an odd flavor but it seemed like the guacamole was good. I tried a cheese curd and those were tasty despite looking like a small bowl for the price. Overall, the servers were friendly and the space was accommodating to us. I would probably order the nachos in the future. Those looked good from what I saw another table order. read more

The Yelp rating of 3 for Sally's is spot on. I used to work at the U of MN and patronized Sally's in both its old location and its new. It was our go to for Friday afterwork beers but after leaving the U several years ago I had not been back. However, recently I had a meeting on campus and we decided to go to Sally's afterwards for lunch. Although it was noon there were few diners. The menu is far from exciting mostly burgers and sandwiches. I had a reuben which was meh. The others in our group had equally unexciting choices. Service was good. Given the plethora of ethnic restaurants near the U there is really no reason to go to Sally's except for beer. read more

Sally's is my favorite gameday bar on campus, and we were excited to be back to kick off the 2022 season! Luckily it didn't fill up too much this game, so we were able to grab a table. I missed the gameday atmosphere and college-priced drinks! All the waitresses and bartenders we came into contact with were kind and helpful, even though it was busy. My go-to drink is always a sugar-free redbull vodka - it's the perfect pick-me-up for $6. The white tea shots are also great. Sallys is nothing too special, just a good bar. We were here around dinner time so we ordered a few apps to share! CHICKEN NACHOS: These were nothing out of the ordinary, but definitely hit the spot. A great gameday snack. BUFFALO WINGS: These wings were the perfect balance of flavorful and spicy. Loved their Buffalo sauce, but the wings themselves were tiny. CAPRESE FLATBREAD: This was nothing mind-blowing but it was a good flatbread! Definitely bar food and nothing Italian/authentic. HONEY GARLIC WINGS: These were the star of the show for us. Came here from out of state while a friend was showing me around. Arrived around 5 or 6 pm on a Thursday and when I first walked in, it felt like chaos. There were people standing and sitting everywhere. It was so loud from the amount of people I felt like I had to yell across the table. It was self seating I think. I couldn't even tell, we just walked straight to a table and had to fight for one that had dirty glasses still on it and for people to leave. They seemed pretty understaffed for the amount of customers that were in the restaurant but we still got great service from the poor girl who seemed like she had to take care of half of the restaurant. The only thing we ordered were the Thursday special of $10 2lb bucket of wings. That was the only thing that was worth it. I used to live less than 2 miles away from Sally's so my boyfriend and I would frequent this spot for happy hour or Viking's games. we LOVE their wing deals they offer throughout the week. they do a wing night on Wednesday's where you can get a bucket of wings for $10 or if you're free during happy hour M-F 3-6pm, you can swing in for half price appetizers and wings are included in that. My boyfriend and I get 18 wings for $9 during HH. we usually get their buffalo (saucy) wings or their spicy scorpion (dry rub) wings. their drink deals are the best you can get around. The patio is cute and we've dined outside during the summertime. Sally's also has DJ's play here, and it happened during one of our visits. As much as I love EDM, it was playing during the middle of a Viking's game, so the loud music + big game on simultaneously didn't really work? I was there to watch the game, but felt like the music was disruptive to being able to enjoy the game. They did not have the volume of the game on due to the music. Just confusing, but hopefully doesn't happen to customers often during football season. The service here is hit or miss. It really depends on when you are there. Weekends can get a bit crazy, so if you're expecting to get a bite to eat, it may take awhile. I've had great service here, and I've had less than desirable service here, but try to avoid times when the rest of campus may be there if you're trying to have a group go out to dinner. There are metered parking spots around Sally's, and certain times do allow for free parking. It is a walkable area, so if you're able to park in a neighborhood nearby and walk on a nice day, I say go for it. read more

Out appetizer came out too close to our entree and when we complained, our waitress said, "I won't charge you for the appetizer, but I have to take them away." I've only came here during happy hour but Sally's is a typical American bar and restaurant located in East Bank/U of M area with a decent happy hour menu. Nothing special though. We ordered a couple of beers, cheese curds and flatbreads- all were okay- just decent. During one of the times I came here the bartender spilled half of the drink for this guy next to us and she didn't even apologize or bother to clean it up until he left, which was unprofessional- the guy was nice enough to still tip too (I would not have). Overall service the other times I went too were just basic. Thursdays after 10pm it is always full of college kids and almost impossible to order drinks or use the bathrooms because of the lines. In general, you can only order from the bar after 9pm/10pm. read more

Arrived at Sally's about 1:30 PM. The U of M had a basketball game at Williams at 4:00 PM. Two and a half hours should be enough time to get a seat, be served, eat, and still be early for the basketball game. Not if you went to Sally's today. Was able to find a table immediately. Took 15-minutes for a server to show up. She advised she was the only server on duty for the entire restaurant and there should have been three, but the bartenders and manager were helping. She advised they knew there was a big basketball game and it was likely to be busy. One server called in ill and the manager didn't find a replacement. Didn't explain why the other server didn't show up. We ordered a glass of water and a glass of wine. It took almost 20-minutes to arrive. We placed a food order. At 3:00 PM we asked when we would be served. They said they'd check. They came back to the table next to us twice, but never came back with an answer. At 3:15 we had to "call it" and left. Bad management. Overworked staff. It was ridiculous. So, no more Sally's or Cowboy Jacks for this couple (owned by the same restaurant group). read more

This place has the potential to be fun and a good time, but my girls and I made the mistake of going to this bar on a Saturday night. College frat party central. My girls and I are 24-25, and we were the oldest customers in there... They are also letting in way too many underaged kids. We didn't get served until we sat in the section that actually had a server and her service was fine. They had happy hour going on for appetizers, and we almost got charged full price for them until I brought it to the server's attention. She then took my app off my bill, but still charged my girl full price for hers? Food was below average. The underaged kids were very rude to us on our way out. Food is okay, I like their wraps and fries. Good happy hour deals most nights, but overall service is slow every-time I go. Popular spot on gamedays and on weekends and perfect location for major events since it's next to the light rail and TCF Bank Stadium. Freshmen used to flock to this place on weekends, but I heard that has since slowed down. Overall, it's a good place for a bite and they have free popcorn. Cocktails and other bar drinks are a little more watered down and pricier than other places on campus, though. Street parking is available for a fee. read more

This place has rats. I saw rodents and droppings in the restaurant. There was no soap in the bathroom for customers to wash their hands. Staff touch food with their bare hands before giving it to guests. Saw food fall off the plate and be put back on the plate before serving it. Utensils that fell on the floor were put on tables for customers to use. The place is in need of a serious cleaning. Very greasy and dirty. Overhead manager tell staff their skirt wasn't "short enough." So inappropriate. Very concerned about business practices here. read more

I come here frequently enough....never left a review so mine is based on several years.... Came at the end of happy hour, got no attention so paid full price for drinks. I can accept this however because I used to work in the industry... Plates dirty noticeably....got a bucket of wings so I can navigate this one but overall, it's marginal. This place may not have the best food but they have a great sports bar atmosphere. I have watched Wimbledon and the NBA finals here a number of times and love the energy here when they show these games!!! The place is usually packed and the crowd really gets into it. The excitement is super energetic and at times really entertaining... The staff is generally accomodating if your party wants a table but I usually wing it and sit at the bar with friends. The traffic there is pretty steady so people tend to go and come more freely. I enjoyed their cowboy jack wings with rub and ranch sauce, it was a good compliment with the artichoke dip. The presentation was super cute. They have this bucket of wings special that I was craving since I saw these guys chowing down on an order but II didnt have the guts to order one since my friends wanted their own bucket but I wasnt sure if I could finish my own so I passed. I am not a fan of left over wings so I didnt want to risk it. Apparently this special is on on Thursdays, so just make sure you take advantage then. I cant speak to their beers on tap. Standard college bar conveniently located across the street from campus. We stopped in here before the Gophers women's basketball home opener. Women's volleyball also had a game so the place was pretty busy due to two sporting events happening the same night. We didn't want to wait for a table so we went directly to the bar to order drinks. Even though the bar was full we were able to order drinks without any issues. They also have some type of game day specials here, I'm not certain what they were exactly but 2 craft beers and 1 Miller Lite cost of $14. We also wanted a pregame appetizer so after the place cleared out a little for the start of the volleyball game, we were able to sit at the bar and order a nacho appetizer. So this took forever and we wanted to cancel the order because we didn't want to be late for the game. Well of course as soon as we said that the nachos arrived. Aside from the slow arrival they were very good. Lots of chips covered in cheese, jalapenos, black olives and taco beef (you can add taco beef or chicken for $2). It does come with salsa and sour cream on the side. I'd recommend this place for pregame drinks and eats. Just don't be in a hurry to get your food. read more

The bouncers are so mean to girls trying to use the restroom and the Line is genuinely over an hour long. I suppose I just don't like crowded noisy sports bars where the majority of the city folk go after work or for happy hour but this is the spot for a lot of professional people that work in the city for happy hour and after work celebrations. Other than the happy hour prices, there isn't much to look forward to at Sally's. It's close to campus which is a huge plus, but the service is slow and the food is just mediocre. This is definitely a fun place to be for sports games and for drinks. Unfortunately, it's rare for me to have a good experience at Sally's. My most recent visit, it took 50+ minutes for my salad to come out of the kitchen which is ridiculous. I had to get a box right away and take it home since we were getting ready to leave. Kellie was our waitress for the night and was very apologetic and even took the salad off my bill (great CS!). That service alone added a star to my rating - kudos to her. Unfortunately, the staff isn't able to keep up with the number of people on busy nights. Hope that changes soon. read more

One of the bouncers yelled at my type one diabetic best friend for needing to use the bathroom because she needed an insulin shot. He told her he didn't know what diabetes's is and continued to yell at her to go to the back of the line even tho she was getting very sick. His name was Anthony and he was incredibly inappropriate. Watched one of the bouncers (black shirt, black hat) tell someone they couldn't come in because they "were not 21". Then the person pulled out money from their wallet, handed it to the bouncer and got in. If this place is knowingly lets minors drink, maybe it's not a place you should go. Anthony the bouncer was not considering my friend who has diabetes and had to put in a diabetes shot. The line was very long so she tried approaching her sister who was very far along in line and Anthony yelled at us for cutting. And didnet let her cut in line so we could put her lnsumin shot in. He told her he that she was going to get kicked out. She was upset that she wasnt able to take care of her medical condition Thankfully two other bouncers understanding of her condition in addition to the rest of petiole in line. There may have been 25 people in the place at 3:00pm, and two waitresses just walked past us, and the bartender asked if we had been helped, I said no, and she said she would get somebody. We were at Sally's recently while our son was at the Uof M Hospital and have some great flatbread. My wife and I had a couple of drinks and appetizers and were discussing our son's situation. My wife was visibly upset and our waitress asked if everything was OK. We told her a litle about our son's condition and that he wouldn't be getting out of the hospital. When it was time to pay our bill she told us it was on the house and refused to take a tip. Really appreciate the kindness and caring staff. read more
