I was so excited to start my week with completely vegetarian diet at Salata by Houston Christian University fka HBU. I ordered a large salad bowl with edamame, peas, chopped eggs and grilled tofu as protein. The dressing was really delicious with 300 calories per serving. While everything was good, I regretted that I chose artichoke hearts because there were so many shells that were not edible. I had to pick them out because she mixed them up pretty good. What a waste of $1.75. The grilled tofu was expensive and hard to chew. Ugh. Not worth $3.95 extra. Tomato soup looked dry and old. My friend got salmon and he loved it. I've eaten at many Salata's and at this location in particular several times as I prefer salata over Chipotle any day, but this is the first time I've ordered a salad and could taste the pesticides. As I was arriving the salata mix was being refilled from a tub, I recommend washing it more. $20 for a salad that tastes like poison makes me want to take my chances with Chipotle. The taste is so unbearable I had to spit it out and throw it in the garbage. read more

Divided to try Salata for the first time today, after leaving the bank I was a little hungry. Upon arrival into the established the place was well lit and well kept. With plenty of seating everywhere. The light shined in throw the glass windows. The ladies at the front where so helpful and nice when it came to helping me make the right salad for me as it was my first time. 10 stars for awesome service !!! When you are used to going to the excellent Salata locations on Gray or especially Weslayan, and getting spectacular salads similar to the one on Katy Freeway in Energy Corridor, then coming here and having a half size salad with withered old stuff that tastes awful, and sometimes unriendly service, is definitely a shock to the system. My boyfriend and I came here while we were running errands. The staff are all very friendly and social-able! I really liked the vibe they had and the place was very clean as well! We came during a lunch time so it was starting to get crowded gradually as we were getting our food down the line. I've never been to a salata where the staff were this friendly and even helped me make a decision on dressing by offering me a sample! that was so generous of them and even offered their suggestions on what they liked! I've been to a couple Salata locations in Houston and this is by far the worst location I've been to. The salad bar items do not appear fresh nor do they taste fresh. Some items are out of stock. The service can have some improvement because the ladies serving the food do not seem to enjoy being there. I noticed some small flies inside the establishment to which I hope the kitchen is well kept and clean. I do not recommend this location nor will I return to dine here if I am ever in the area. Love this place. They have very fresh ingredients and the soups are delicious. They used to have a really delicious broccoli cheese soup. I think they discontinued it. But the tomato soup is just as delicious. Also the cookies are really good. read more

I would opt for the bigger size because it's only an one dollar difference. Abundant of choices from toppings, proteins to the salad dressings. The proteins will cost you extra. Seafood mix and spicy chipotle chicken are my favorite proteins. Toppings are fresh and they give you good portion. By the time you are done going through the line, you will end up with a delish salad. Is it healthy? Well depends on what you get in it. This place is clean with nice interiors. My sister used to tell me to try Salata all the time, so today I decided to go myself and see what all the hype was about. I have to say, she was right. It's a make your own salad/wrap spot, and all of the ingredients are very fresh and appetizing. They all come with listed calorie counts too. And if there's anything I love, it's food with listed calorie counts! I ordered a medley of vegetables along with egg and pesto chicken for protein. Plus some avocado to add a bit of healthy fat. The chicken and avocado together were $3 extra. Since it cost me extra, I wish I could've got a little more chicken and avocado. They were kinda being stingy with it. I wrapped everything up in Salata's signature green cucumber tortilla. The wrap had a base price of $7, so with my add-ons I ended up paying $10 even. The wrap was delicious, and it came with a side of pita chips. The cashier didn't give me napkins when she gave me the wrap, which was a little weird. But she did present them to me when I asked. It's in Town Center, so the only free parking is the garage next to the Sugar Land Marriott Hotel, a short stroll from the restaurant. read more

Went for lunch with a girlfriend today. She was a first timer and I have not been to Salata since 2012. We were standing in line and the power went out and came back on only to go out again. I must say, no one was alarmed. We all kept placing our orders like this was normal and the staff was great. Me like others in line, did not have any cash. There was this wonderful woman ahead of me that gave me a $20 for our food. How wonderful sweet of her and she would not take it back. This location is physically attractive, the patio area is pretty clean and has some good sized tables. I decided to give this location a try today. Didn't much like it. I would say it's a busy location due to the hospital and the university, specially around 11-1pm. Almost every table is taken and most parking spots even though you would think there is plenty of parking. The service is just okay, portioning is pretty bad. Note: I don't get protein so I'm not complaining about meat, you would they're only stingy with protein but they're also with lettuce and the other toppings. Most likely ask for your food to go because almost every table will be taken. Also, they seem to charge extra when you ask for more than one bread/tortilla, so beware of that because there isn't a sign anywhere warning that. read more

I used to go out of my way to the Weslayan location so I was uber happy and sad when this location opened. Happy because now there is a location closer to my office but sad because I will be spending more money. There's a lot of options to choose from the type of greenery, meat, dressing, and mix ins. The staff is fast and friendly even with the long lines and even the difficult ones who hold up the lines are politely ushered on their way. The restrooms are clean but the tables might need some care when you come in during peak lunch time or even during non peak times. If this was the Weslayan location---which I have not done a review for---I would give it four stars. I feel like they have different recipes for their tomato soups and the other location is creamier while this location seems more like a purée with cream as an after thought. read more

I love Salata and frequent multiple locations in and around Houston. I was in the area if this location for a medical appointment and stopped by to get lunch. I always get the imitation crab meat on my salads and it's always fresh and tastes great. The crab meat I got at this location was completely inedible! It didn't look like it usually does and the texture was so rubbery I could barely pierce it with my fork! I took a couple bites and now I'm hoping it doesn't make me sick. While placing my order they started speaking to one another in their language and rolling their eyes. Salata is a build-your-own kind of food and I love the selections they have for veggies and proteins, but the prices are extremely expensive. A small salad is $7 ($8 for a regular salad, $7 for salad wrap) and does not include meat or avocado ($1). If you want to add chicken it'll be another $3, $4 for turkey, and $4 for seafood. My favorite is the pesto chicken. I really like the balsamic vinaigrette and fat-free mango sauces depending on how I'm building my salad. I have tried the wrap and that is pretty good as well. I feel that most of the workers are pretty stingy when it comes to the ingredients. It seems a bit unreasonable when the portions they are serving are small and pricey. read more

This place is difficult to fairly and accurately review. When it first opened I ate here daily. After a couple months they began giving less and less toppings/salad mix. Even when you ask for more of a topping, they'll grab three chunks of cucumber for example and low key give you attitude if you ask for more ingredients a couple of times. This is one of those things where your experience will vary greatly even within the same day, solely based on who is working the line at the time (which is what makes it challenging to accurately review, sometimes it's great! And sometimes it's worse than bad.) They will charge you an additional fee if you ask for more bread, which I suppose is understandable but they should be transparent about that and not mention it in passing after ringing you up. Combined, these things lead me to now avoiding this establishment. Obviously, the cost to making my own salad is significantly lower and I was eating here strictly out of convenience. However, you can go to Chipotle in the same strip, order wisely and wind up with three times the food for less money. Try focusing on consistency with your staff's training. As well, a $12 salad should fill the to-go container. read more
