I remember when I was younger going to cafeteria with my adopted grandmother (we adopted her, our grandparentslived in the Caribbean).. She loved cafeterias. You could get really simple and tasty southern style food for a good price. Us kids loved going because not only could we pick out a delicious entree and two sides of our choice, out health nut parents allowed us to get a dessert of our liking as well as a drink of our liking because the value was so good. Also, if other people from church came, aside from plenty hugs, we sat by ourselves close by and roared with laughter until our church members got in on the jokes and the whole section was laughing. Good times. Grandma often paid for everyone since it was affordable to her and she loved us to pieces. I said all that to say that Luby's gives that nostalgic feeling of my youth. Now, the food isn't at the level that it needs to be but it is comforting. I can just hear grandma asking everyone if they are okay and enjoying their meal! My favorite items from her are the homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, savory green beans, delicious butter corn kernels, mac and cheese, whole wheat rolls, cabbage, and cornbread. Basically the sides. The mac and cheese is not yellow but it is very cheesey and nice! So delicious and creamy. They have a good dessert list but my sweet tooth hasn't picked back up. Luby's needs to be respected as the American treasure that it is. It is one of the best tasting restaurants in the entire U.S. The fried haddock is something worth dreaming about. The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. We have always really appreciated the simplicity of it all. As for the food, I had the bacon cheese steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, side salad, and wheat roll. My mother had the fried fish with double macaroni and cheese. Everything was amazing. Having eaten and enjoying Lubys for decades, I visited this Lubys on Westheimer in the Westchase area and am warning the general public NOT to go here unless you don't mind dirty restrooms, sticky dirty glass doors and dining tables, greasy food, and rude servers behind the counter. The chicken fried steak was quite salty. I mistakenly thought it would be like other restaurants that I had frequented. My wheat roll was hard and cold, as if it had been sitting out for a couple days. The female server behind the counter became upset at my friend and I when asking a question about what an item was. The deviled eggs were sitting in a small bowl near the fountain drinks near the cashier -- each 1/2 egg wrapped in plastic but sitting with NO ice, not cold to my touch. When I asked for brown gravy instead of white, the female counter server poured my bowl of gravy back into the main serving tray after both of us had touched it!! How Unsanitary is that? Beware, customers, this cafeteria has really gone downhill and is Not at all like the Lubys quality of the 90s. Do NOT eat here if you don't want to get sick. Yes. I like Luby's. This restaurant is actually closest to my house and I frequent here because I'm hungry. I usually get LuAnn plates because of military discount offer at 25% off. The menu is fairly easy to read. My meals are always below $10. Sometimes I can get 2 meals out of one plate. Well. It is just me. I don't eat a lot of meat. Their food is always fresh. Service is pretty decent. I like how the cashier always say "do you want any cash back for tips?" Yeah. I forgot about that. Waitresses are usually helpful. I really appreciate them. read more

They are up charge for very little thing even for pico and the manager starts yall at the customer and then Start bad mouthing with other co- workers about the customer in Spanish if they get a bit of jalapeño juice . They yell at the customer. This time I saw that the manager was yelling at an elderly couple just cause they got jalapeño juice . I don't recommend. I took a friend to the Luby's on 249@Spring Cypress. I had the blackened salmon, green beans, and brocolli. My friend had salisbury steak and potatoes. The food was delicious. I stopped by Kroger for some shopping and started feeling ill. I went home and within 2 hrs of eating the salmon, started vomiting. Headache, chills, and vomiting-did not feel better until today-still have a bit of headache. My friend was fine, it must have been the salmon. read more

Stingy, stingy, stingy!! I called in a TO-GO order for turkey and dressing and when I went to eat it saw they had put less than a half of scoop of the dressing. So the manager said the dressing is complimentary, that's why he didn't serve much of it. Been going to this Luby's for decades. I never had a bad meal there until today. Today I took my family of 4 here for lunch. The salmon patty and fried eggplant were overcooked with a hard crust that made my stomach ache for several hours and gave me nausea. In addition, the roast turkey and dressing were bland and subpar. For just $11.95 one can enjoy an entree, two sides and your bread of choice. I opted for the chicken fried steak with white gravy, cabbage, Mac n cheese and a white roll. It was honestly one of the better chicken fried steaks that I've had in the last couple years. It wasn't tough and could be cut with a fork. That said I would give the overall dining experience an 8.5/10. Which far exceeded my expectations heading into the evening. Staff is very friendly, helpful and especially responsive. Today me and my family got Luby's to go I got liver and onion which is always great my husband got chicken fried chicken and our daughter got chicken fried steak they enjoy the food though our daughter says the Mac was a little bland. The service was horrible the cashier was on the phone the entire time she was checking us out, she also took my plate out of my hand without saying a word to me, they fail to give any of us gravy and we definitely asked for. Oh and last but certainly not least my daughter decided to change her potatoes last minute so she gives the young lady her to go plate back and the server scoops out the mash potatoes put them back in the pan and replaced them with the loaded potato. This was my first and last time trying Luby's. I heard some of my older coworkers talking about the food here so I had to try it for myself. First thing that comes to mind: cafeteria food - and not in the best way. I ordered roast chicken with yams and macaroni and cheese. It came with dressing and cranberry sauce - kind of like a mini thanksgiving. Well it was BLAND as hell. AND, they forgot my sweet tea. The chicken was moist, but unseasoned as ever. I am surprised at how this foot tasted. I would not eat here again, and can't recommend this place either. I love Luby's which I recently went back to again after years. The truth is that Luby's' prices increased when Pappa's bought it. But not too long ago, I heard on the radio that there is a special for $6.99 called Fan Favorites. Most of the time they have a seafood patty. Fan Faves come with an entrée, two veggie sides and a roll. I've also seen spaghetti with meat sauce and chicken tetrazini. However; I'm pescatarian. So when I don't see the seafood patty, I opt for the Luann platter which costs a little bit more. I love Luby's iced tea. I mix unsweetened with sweetened. And they have lemons. I love their desserts and they're reasonably priced. What surprises me is that they ask for tip at the cash register though you've gone through a line to get food. There are wait staff who refill your drinks and bring you miscellaneous items. I do leave them a tip but only $1 if they disappear. I'm glad to have returned to Luby's. read more

Most people will not believe this statement I'm about to make, but it's the honest truth. Luby's is one of my favorite places to eat. Are you asking why? Well, I primarily like home-cooked type, hearty food, and Luby's provides that to me. Also when I want to be a little conscience of my eating, I'm able to go there and enjoy a hearty, but healthier meal. To be able to go to a restaurant with those types of choices for me is a plus. Thats my take on Lubys in general, but you must know that they all are not the same. The food is different, depending on location for some reason. This particular location has good food. It is conveniently located down the stream from my job, so I'm able to indulge during my lunch hour. The food is always fresh. The employees are helpful and friendly. I love the roasted chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy! Sometimes I add a salad to the meal. You get to choose what you want cafeteria style and then pay and go sit. A waitress will come to your table and give you a straw for your drink and whatever condiments you need. The prices are fair and please leave a tip for the waitress on the table. Went to this Luby's with my sister. She wanted to pay and didn't know you had to tell them you wanted extra money for a tip for the waitress. When I realized she didn't and neither of us had any money on us, I went up to the register to ask them to please let me get a tip on my card for the waitress. The cashier told me I had to buy something. I said we just bought two meals. She said sorry you have to buy something, a sauce packet or something for $5.00 only. I said we already purchased two meals. My sister paid and she did not realize she needed to ask for extra money for the tip. Same thing, I needed to buy something. I asked for the manager. Same crap. I needed to buy something. Damit. I told them how stupid and ridiculous that was when we already purchased two meals plus dessert and drinks. Really? Well this is my review for you. I am never ever patronizing your restaurant ever again. NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! I apologized to the waitress for not having any cash. She said don't worry about it. Came here this past Sunday around 230 with family to eat. We came at the right time as it seemed like their Sunday lunch rush was calming down. We only had to wait in the line for about 15 mins. I ordered the grilled tilapia, green beans, okra, and a side salad. The food was good and I had leftovers which is always a plus. The only issue that we had was the rushing of the customers through the line.
