Luby's Fried Fish and Macaroni & Cheese!
    Kate W.

Luby's is such a special place to our family! We've always enjoyed the cafeteria-style experience that affords everyone the opportunity to piece together exactly what they want to eat! The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. We have always really appreciated the simplicity of it all. As for the food, I had the bacon cheese steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, side salad, and wheat roll. My mother had the fried fish with double macaroni and cheese. Everything was amazing. We are always impressed how Luby's does an exceptional job of always keeping everything hot and delicious...a tough task when you're serving so many different entrees and sides at the same time! See you next time, Luby's!

As always you will find something that day or not. But I absolutely love the bake chicken!! The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were on point. I can never go wrong with Lubys !! I'm not saying everything will be to everyone's liking, but it's very close to a home cooked meal.

Yes. I like Luby's. This restaurant is actually closest to my house and I frequent here because I'm hungry. I usually get LuAnn plates because of military discount offer at 25% off. The menu is fairly easy to read. My meals are always below $10. Sometimes I can get 2 meals out of one plate. Well. It is just me. I don't eat a lot of meat. Their food is always fresh. Service is pretty decent. I like how the cashier always say "do you want any cash back for tips?" Yeah. I forgot about that. Waitresses are usually helpful. I really appreciate them.

Luby's was closing their doors at one time. I'm so happy they are still around! Service is great, selections are plentiful, taste is terrific, and the restaurant is clean. Their fried fish is my favorite.

everything is very tasty and clean, I recommend it

everything is very tasty and clean, I recommend it, chicken with mushrooms is very tasty, salads and potatoes are also top notch, I will definitely come again

They also leave dirty dishes, everywhere

Don't come to this luby . They are up charge for very little thing even for pico and the manager starts yall at the customer and then Start bad mouthing with other co- workers about the customer in Spanish if they get a bit of jalapeño juice . They yell at the customer. This time I saw that the manager was yelling at an elderly couple just cause they got jalapeño juice . I don't recommend. This luby they are going down hill that why they are up charging and price gouging on the food they are serving.

This is one of the nicer Luby's locations I've visited. It is always clean, the food is fresh, and the service is top notch here. Luby's is such a great place to go to satisfy your southern country cravings. I'll definitely be back soon.

I ordered some food in the Houston location to provide for our family for Thanksgiving here in Katy Texas for Thanksgiving This is what we received once we cooked everything for an hour on 350 for in the oven The rice broccoli casserole is very soupy and the cornbread dressing is burnt it's not even crumbled you have to press down on its with a fork to make it crumble it's just unacceptable and I would hope to get a refund we spent $90 on sides only This is what my family had to eat on Thanksgiving. It would have been much easier if we'd been directed to that menu first. There were also photos of drinks displayed on the counter without prices, so we had to ask about each one. The staff had to enter every drink into the computer just to tell us the price. We ordered two drinks, a ham and cheese croissant, a lemon blueberry loaf, and two macarons. We received the drinks and macarons, but nothing else. We waited about 10 minutes, assuming someone would call us when the rest of our order was ready, but no one ever did. I finally went back to the counter, and the employee said, "Oh, I thought the other girl did it." While we were waiting, I had plenty of time to look around. The tables, booths, and chairs were dirty. There was food on the tables and floor, and the front door looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. One employee was sitting on what appeared to be her personal laptop, laughing and watching something instead of helping customers or cleaning. I remember working in food service years ago, and one thing that was drilled into us was, "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean." That definitely didn't seem to apply here. The food itself was okay, but having to remind the staff to finish our order was disappointing. You're asked to tip before you've received any service, yet everything is self-service and no one checks on you. I don't mind self-service at all when it's organized and the restaurant is clean, but this experience felt disorganized from start to finish. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, I left more frustrated than impressed.

They've built a loyal and local following by making comfort food the centerpiece of their many talents (#2). When the food is as tasty as the customer service is friendly, it's hard not to love all they to offer. The shop is so small that seating is non-existent, (#3) thus it's strictly a takeout and delivery establishment. Their display case of hot foods changes throughout the day, depending on availability. Anything after the late afternoon is a huge gamble, so when in doubt, call ahead of time to confirm whether an item is available. I love to pop in just to get a good visual of my choices -- and I've always managed to walk out with something delicious. Of all the items I've tried, there have been standouts across the board. The oxtail, stewed chicken with gravy, smothered rib tips, meat loaf, and their über famous honey glazed wings and meatballs are fabulous. Their sides of dressing, sweet candied yams, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes make for a perfectly complete meal. Even the cornbread is outstanding, which is really saying something. I'd be remiss not to mention their incredibly underrated desserts. The peach cobbler is fire, pound cake and banana pudding are excellent, and their triple layered German-chocolate cake floored me. It was decadent, a tinge savory, and extremely addicting. The fact they offer catering for every item mentioned above means my future potlucks are going to be next level. When they're ready to open another location in a different part of town, I can only hope it'll be closer to me. Otherwise, it's off to West Oaks when I'm craving a food-coma-worthy treat. ____________ (#1) Except Monday. They're closed. Even with the crowd, the line kept moving, and there was no shortage of delicious-looking options on the steam table. From fried chicken and turkey wings to baked fish, spaghetti, cabbage, green beans, mac and cheese, dressing, black-eyed peas, collard greens, candied yams, mashed potatoes, and more, it was hard to decide what to order because everything looked homemade. I ordered the turkey wing with collard greens, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes with gravy, rice, a corn muffin, and sweet potatoes. I also grabbed a Suicide Punch, which is a mix of all their Kool-Aid flavors. First, let's talk about those sweet potatoes... BABY!! They absolutely stole the show. They were piping hot, buttery, perfectly sweet, and hands down the best thing on my plate. I could've easily eaten another serving. The collard greens were seasoned beautifully with a rich, smoky flavor and plenty of pot liquor. They were tender without being mushy and tasted like they had been cooking all day. The black-eyed peas were creamy, well-seasoned, and comforting, while the mashed potatoes were smooth and paired perfectly with the savory gravy. The rice soaked up every bit of that gravy, and the corn muffin was soft with just the right touch of sweetness. The turkey wing itself was tender, juicy, and covered in flavorful gravy. My only surprise was that I was expecting just the wing portion, but instead I received the whole wing with the drum attached. It wasn't a big deal because it was still delicious--I just personally prefer getting only the wing. The Suicide Punch was another winner. If you grew up drinking Kool-Aid, you'll appreciate it. It's sweet, refreshing, and a fun mix of all the flavors. My family ordered several other dishes, so we got to try quite a variety. We had baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and black-eyed peas, and everything was generously portioned. The baked chicken was moist and well-seasoned, and the mac and cheese had that creamy, homemade taste you hope for from a soul food restaurant. My only real complaint was that some of the food was served lukewarm instead of hot, which took away from the experience a little. Soul food just hits differently when it's fresh and piping hot. Ironically, the sweet potatoes were the one item that came out nice and hot, and they were absolutely perfect. Overall, Mikki's serves authentic soul food with generous portions and flavors that remind you of Sunday dinner at a family member's house. The food is comforting, the selection is impressive, and it's easy to see why the place stays busy. If everything had been served hot, this would've easily been a five-star experience. Pro tip: Don't leave without getting the sweet potatoes and a Suicide Punch. Trust me--you'll thank me later. sweet potatoes and a Suicide Punch free refills. Trust me--you'll thank me later.

I wandered in not expecting much, but my experience here ended up much better than I thought…read more I went with their August prix fixe and went with their Truffle Deviled Eggs, Crispy Sweet & Sour Shrimp, and Key Lime Tart. The deviled eggs make good comfort food and was satisfying. This version doesn't have much of a kick, but it's very creamy and you can definitely taste the truffle oil. The homemade potato chips also add to the texture and salt between bites. The shrimp dish was fun with a light and crispy batter, well-seasoned and drizzled with sweet chili sauce. The cool ranch surprisingly added to the shrimp and enhanced the chili sauce rather than overwhelming it. The made-in-house fries were far better than expected. I was somewhat expecting dense, oily, boring fries, but these were very crisp and somehow didn't feel too greasy as far as fries goes. Almost seemed like an injustice for it to be served with ketchup as it was too good for it. Lastly, the tart was a great way to end the meal without it being too much. Loved the crust. The tart shell tasted really good and went well with the filling, which had a lighter consistency than pudding. Fruits tasted like they were on season, even though it should be a bit too late for strawberries. I'm also a sucker for meringue. I'll have to come back to see if it wasn't a fluke, but there were a lot of dishes here that looked good. Maybe even swing by for happy hour, we'll see.
