Luby's Fried Fish and Macaroni & Cheese!
    Kate W.

Luby's is such a special place to our family! We've always enjoyed the cafeteria-style experience that affords everyone the opportunity to piece together exactly what they want to eat! The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. We have always really appreciated the simplicity of it all. As for the food, I had the bacon cheese steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, side salad, and wheat roll. My mother had the fried fish with double macaroni and cheese. Everything was amazing. We are always impressed how Luby's does an exceptional job of always keeping everything hot and delicious...a tough task when you're serving so many different entrees and sides at the same time! See you next time, Luby's!

As always you will find something that day or not. But I absolutely love the bake chicken!! The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were on point. I can never go wrong with Lubys !! I'm not saying everything will be to everyone's liking, but it's very close to a home cooked meal.

everything is very tasty and clean, I recommend it

Yes. I like Luby's. This restaurant is actually closest to my house and I frequent here because I'm hungry. I usually get LuAnn plates because of military discount offer at 25% off. The menu is fairly easy to read. My meals are always below $10. Sometimes I can get 2 meals out of one plate. Well. It is just me. I don't eat a lot of meat. Their food is always fresh. Service is pretty decent. I like how the cashier always say "do you want any cash back for tips?" Yeah. I forgot about that. Waitresses are usually helpful. I really appreciate them.

Luby's was closing their doors at one time. I'm so happy they are still around! Service is great, selections are plentiful, taste is terrific, and the restaurant is clean. Their fried fish is my favorite.

They also leave dirty dishes, everywhere

Don't come to this luby . They are up charge for very little thing even for pico and the manager starts yall at the customer and then Start bad mouthing with other co- workers about the customer in Spanish if they get a bit of jalapeño juice . They yell at the customer. This time I saw that the manager was yelling at an elderly couple just cause they got jalapeño juice . I don't recommend. This luby they are going down hill that why they are up charging and price gouging on the food they are serving.

I ordered some food in the Houston location to provide for our family for Thanksgiving here in Katy Texas for Thanksgiving This is what we received once we cooked everything for an hour on 350 for in the oven The rice broccoli casserole is very soupy and the cornbread dressing is burnt it's not even crumbled you have to press down on its with a fork to make it crumble it's just unacceptable and I would hope to get a refund we spent $90 on sides only This is what my family had to eat on Thanksgiving. This is one of the nicer Luby's locations I've visited. It is always clean, the food is fresh, and the service is top notch here. Luby's is such a great place to go to satisfy your southern country cravings. I'll definitely be back soon.

Using Waze this is a hard place to find as it is behind office buildings not on the feeder as the address suggests. Further finding outdoor parking is not possible at a peak hour but note that there is an easily accessible parking garage. This Treebeards appearance was very pretty (not what I was expecting giving my experience with the downtown location and I am not sure that it is still around). Also, some other nice restaurants in this block. The restaurant was packed with professionally dressed people. The waiter took our order, and he was accommodating to substitutions and our selection of side orders. I got fried catfish. This is not a normal selection for me as I will normally avoid fried foods other than fries and chips (yes, and I wonder why I do not lose the 5 lbs. that I need to lose). Service was quick and our order was perfect. The friend catfish was outstanding as it was right out of the fryer. It was a very pleasant experience and I would happily go back.

Finding the place can be a little confusing if you're coming right off the Katy Freeway because of the unique building structure it's tucked into -- just take it slow and you'll spot it. Once you're there, though, there's plenty of parking in the shared lot. Fair warning: it does get very crowded since so many other restaurants and retail spots share the same area, so you might have to circle a bit during peak times. The atmosphere is really nice and relaxed. They have seating both inside and outside, with plenty of tables plus some comfy couches where you can settle in and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. You order at the counter when you walk in, then grab a seat wherever you like -- super straightforward. We went with the gumbo, two orders of the chicken pot pie, and a shepherd's pie. Overall, the food was good -- solid, comforting, and filling -- but it wasn't quite amazing. We've definitely had better versions of the shepherd's pie, chicken pot pies, and gumbo at other spots around Houston. That said, the sides were legit! The macaroni and cheese and red beans and rice were both tasty and hit the spot. The jalapeño cornbread had great flavor, but man, it was extremely dry. Like, the kind of dry where you take a bite and immediately need a big swig of your drink to get it down. For dessert, we split the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. My wife really enjoyed it, though I'm not a huge fan of that style. I did notice they offer bread pudding, so I'll definitely be trying that next time. All in all, Treebeards delivered a satisfying meal in a chill setting. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area and craving some down-home comfort food.

They've built a loyal and local following by making comfort food the centerpiece of their many talents (#2). When the food is as tasty as the customer service is friendly, it's hard not to love all they to offer. The shop is so small that seating is non-existent, (#3) thus it's strictly a takeout and delivery establishment. Their display case of hot foods changes throughout the day, depending on availability. Anything after the late afternoon is a huge gamble, so when in doubt, call ahead of time to confirm whether an item is available. I love to pop in just to get a good visual of my choices -- and I've always managed to walk out with something delicious. Of all the items I've tried, there have been standouts across the board. The oxtail, stewed chicken with gravy, smothered rib tips, meat loaf, and their über famous honey glazed wings and meatballs are fabulous. Their sides of dressing, sweet candied yams, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes make for a perfectly complete meal. Even the cornbread is outstanding, which is really saying something. I'd be remiss not to mention their incredibly underrated desserts. The peach cobbler is fire, pound cake and banana pudding are excellent, and their triple layered German-chocolate cake floored me. It was decadent, a tinge savory, and extremely addicting. The fact they offer catering for every item mentioned above means my future potlucks are going to be next level. When they're ready to open another location in a different part of town, I can only hope it'll be closer to me. After 3+ years of searching for something that gives me that Atlanta-level comfort, I can finally say I've found a real contender in Mikki's Soul Food Cafe. This was my second visit, and I ordered the same thing both times--the meatloaf dinner over rice with green beans (and this time I added mac and cheese). That meatloaf? Listen... seasoned just right, tender, and covered in a rich gravy that leans slightly tomato-based without being overpowering. Poured over fluffy rice? Yeah... they knew exactly what they were doing. The first visit was a 10/10. The green beans were everything--well-seasoned, tender, with bacon and onions. It gave "somebody's grandma been cooking all morning." Now... this second visit? The green beans came in a little confused. I got more potatoes and bacon than actual beans. I'm talking hide-and-seek levels trying to find a green bean in there. Still flavorful, but the balance was off. And the mac and cheese? Not my ministry. It was very heavy--extra cheesy to the point where the texture and flavor just didn't land for me. I won't be ordering that again. Let's talk price real quick: $19.95 (2 sides) $23.95 (3 sides) At first, I paused. But once you see the portion size? You calm down real quick. These are generous plates, easily stretching into two meals. Now here's my biggest issue--and it matters: The to-go packaging needs help. That gravy on the meatloaf is delicious, but it's also very liquidy. When you order to-go (like I did for lunch), it spills out into the container and bag during transport. By the time I got back to work, my tray was covered in grease and gravy, and it made eating a whole situation. This could easily be fixed by putting the gravy in a separate, sealed container. Final Verdict: When Mikki's hits, it hits. This is some of the closest I've found to real Southern soul food in Houston. A little more consistency with sides and better to-go packaging would take them all the way over the top. Rating: 4.5 stars (9/10) 1/2 And yes--I'm coming back. Next time, I'm bringing my mom for Sunday dinner.
