Salad craft blend with grilled pesto chicken and garlic Caesar dressing

This place is a blend of Amy Winehouse and Foster The People, well that's what I heard playing surround sound while waiting for my salad. It was a little tricky to locate this spot which is across the street from Webster Bank on Main Street inside the Hawaiian Pokemoto restaurant/ Main Street Market Place Bldg. If you ended up driving down Melelli Plz then again it's inside the Market Place Bldg before "El Pulpo" with plenty of metered parking out back. Usually I don't trust places were I can't smell anything cooking but I gave it a try since I was craving something healthy. Plenty of available pens to circle & build your salad by selecting everything off of a slip of pre-printed 68 different menu items. What's harder than WAZE trying to find this location was selecting only 5 veggies to add to the salad. I chose well and my salad was delicious especially since I chose Glazed Walnuts from the Dairy/Nuts section of the menu and roasted garlic Caesar dressing tossed inside the salad. The portion was perfect, lots of interior seating and view of Main Street. Salad came up to $14 including a 10% tip, good thing I get paid this week. CON: Grilled chicken pesto is served cold so no off the grill but rather it was grilled and then chilled. In the Dairy/Nuts selection I also chose "egg" and it was missing from my salad. PRO: In the middle of the room there was a small bar where people can drop off or pick up business cards of their personal choice. I picked one up hoping to create a connection on a project Im hoping to expand upon. I would eat at SaladCraft again.

Brown, slimy lettuce. This only shows SMALL portion of what was in the bowl.

Was looking forward to a nice big salad for lunch. It was kind of expensive but I justified the cost because I was able to customize what I wanted. Well.... what I didn't want was brown, slimy lettuce. And so much lettuce that there was not enough room from the other stuff I wanted. Quality sucks, and quantity of anything other than lettuce sucks. Also got watermelon and it tasted old. Maybe Monday just isn't the day to order from this place.

We are not often in Middletown, but we will definitely be back. This is a great place to stop, and I 10000% recommend it. Of course, I had the gluten-free veggie pizza, and I added pineapple because I am a pineapple-on-pizza person. Sue me, I am an islander. My partner had the shrimp pizza, not gluten-free, and ordered a medium. The size was honestly obscene for a medium. He kept asking to drive back down there every day after because he wanted it again. Definitely returning.

They do offer a free lot in the back, but judging by all the cars, Mondo is very popular on a Friday evening. Sure enough, there was a big line of people picking up orders, but we walked right in and were seated immediately. We started off with a beet salad, which was surprisingly delicious, combining candied walnuts and sweet orange and green apple slices with salty feta and tangy balsamic over a mountain of mixed greens. We then moved on to paninis, generous portions of meat and toppings on freshly baked, crispy bread. One of us chose more mixed greens tossed with dressing while the other chose crunchy French fries. We also ordered a third panini to go, the Mondo combo. We asked for fries; the kitchen accidentally gave us a salad. Our server, Heather N., saved the day by noticing the error and giving us both side orders. Mondo is family friendly, and there were plenty of children during our visit. As such, the volume was a tad loud and boisterous, but nothing obnoxious that would prevent us from returning.

I do wish there were more signs, as both the parking lot and the entrance felt a bit vague and easy to miss. Once we finally found our way inside, we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere reminded me of another local tavern. Staffed by friendly people. The food was good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. My only disappointment was the lack of information about the history of the establishment. There is a lot of marketing that references its connection to a jailhouse on the menu, but very little information is actually shared within the tavern itself. I found myself wanting to learn more about the story behind the place. I also think it would be fun to add a photo-op area--perhaps even outdoors--with a set of mock jail bars where guests could take pictures. It would fit the theme and add a memorable touch. The tavern itself is fairly small, so I can imagine it gets quite crowded during busy times. Overall, it's definitely worth checking out.
