I stopped into the shop during the last hour they were open for the day- it was late and hot and I wanted something for dinner that wasn't a greasy hamburger or pizza because I sure wasn't cooking anything. I got my order to go and just built my own salad instead of taking the premade ones in the case. The salad bar is very clean and has a lot of options for veggies in your salad. There were also a couple of pasta salads and what I believe was a potato salad! There are also lots of dressing options and topping as well. Everything looked extremely fresh so I wasn't worried. My three major issues that have me left with giving it only three stars are: 1. There isn't really a way to get a bigger sized salad to go. You are stuck with the one size to go container and it's not that big. 2. I saw this in a previous review- there isn't a huge selection of proteins to add to the salad. I would have liked to see some grilled chicken or something (I opted for ham- because it was that or tofu or the small containers of chicken/shrimp that you pay extra for and to be honest they didn't look all that appealing so i passed on those) 3. For the size salad I left with, the price was a bit much. They are convenient and maybe I would have gotten a better deal if I had dined in (I wasn't in the mood for that) but next time I feel like a quick salad for dinner I will go to the grocery store and get a premade one in the produce section. read more

My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. I live in Monterey but work in Salinas so I had been to the Salad Shoppe a handful of times in the past 5 years. As of a year ago when I introduced it to my boyfriend, a Monterey native, we have been coming at least once a week, if not more! My boyfriend owns a business in Monterey & usually works in PG/Carmel and STILL drives all the way to Salinas just to have lunch here; we are pretty serious about being loyal customers! The selections are always fresh and amazing! I would list everything I love there, but you would be reading all night. I will say though that every other Wednesday is Vegetable Beef Soup day, or 'My Day' as the owner likes to call it. Whenever I'm in town visiting my parents, I try to swing by Della-Rose Salad Shoppe. There is one long salad bar that spans the length of the shop filled with fresh vegetables from the local fields of the Salinas Valley. You can have an all-you-can-eat salad for around $6. Plus, you can take salads, sandwiches, and soup to go. This is a great healthy alternative from the strip of fast food restaurants along Main Street. Plus, I don't fork over the Whole Food prices for it. I wish there was a Della-Rose in SF. read more

This is by far the best salad bar available in the area. The vegetable selection is good, although the pasta and potato salads could use some improvement (like flavor!) Plus, transparent cucumbers really just need to be thrown away. What really bothers me about this place is the staff's attitude. Not even the slightest bit friendly, leaning more towards giving the appearance that they are annoyed by customers. This seems to vary greatly, however. They are bubbly and friendly with some, yet avoid even making eye contact with others, myself included. I have my own theories as to why this is that have become more apparent with every visit. I only continue to visit places that seem to appreciate me as a customer. I don't need much as far as attention; I just don't want to feel like I'm a bother. read more

This place was scary when we walked in. They didn't have the lights on and the ambience was depressing. People were eating giant plates of salad composed of ingredients that weren't even fresh. Some lady was picking through the spring mix with her hands because she only wanted spinach and they were out of that. It cost as much as sweet tomatoes but not as clean or with as many options. No thanks!! I'm from socal so maybe I'm spoiled by all our salad options but this place is overpriced for what it is. It is my first Yelp review. I usually do not give any reviews, but I feel like I have to. I decided to eat lunch here with my friend. The lady owner watched us the whole time. I am not sure because we were the only Asians were there or because we were there with kids. I was observing her watching us, including the use of their restroom. This is my favorite place to eat lunch in Salinas. Fresh produce, great pasta salads, soups and pre-made salads. The salad bar has every veggie you can think of, lots of dressing options and tasty protein options (grilled chicken, shrimp - yum!). The staff is really nice and the place is super clean.
