    Cesar Chicken wrap

I get the raw tortilla but No croutons or crushed croutons? No Parmesan cheese. Why tomatoes on Cesar? Not crispy or grilled chicken. So disappointing!

    Law regulations

I come to SALAD SHOPPE and they don't have a bathroom for customers the LAW says that restaurants must have a bathroom for customers.

The Salad Shoppe is a perfect salad bar if you're looking for a healthy lunch spot. The place is cutely decorated, and situated to the left of CVS on South Main Street As you wander in, grab a plate and start assembling your ideal salad. Once you check out, you'll find that you can go back for seconds. The salad bar is all you can eat. They also have soups, baked goods and even a menu with some sandwiches and other items. Support small shops, support local and give the Salad Shoppe a try next time you're craving soup and salad! .

I love this place! Took my aunt to lunch here today and we both enjoyed it. It was my first time and I've missed having a salad bar like this since the others like it have closed. Cute little spot in downtown Salinas, friendly staff and great service!

Fresh ingredients, clean establishment, friendly service. You can choose from a variety of greens, toppings, dressings and soups.

And I luv pastries and baked goods especially if they're authentically fresh made from local bakeries not franchises. So even though we were on a time schedule, I made time to check out this place. So glad I did. Delicious baked items at reasonable prices. Right when I walked in, I was greeted by a young woman that had the best smile and attitude. She was super helpful. I chatted her up a bit and found out they opened in 2021 and it's a family business. The recipes are family recipes. Luv that! Also I had to ask about the prices, there are no prices marked for the baked goods. The case had cookies, cream pies (whole and slices), croissants, muffins, scones, cream puffs, eclairs, mini fruit tarts, cheesecake (whole and slices), and danishes. They all were just so gorgeous. Sitting so pretty in the case. We bought a carrot cake muffin, slice of banana cream pie, a Grandpa David's peanut butter cookie, and a chocolate chip cookie. The cashier packaged everything carefully and provided napkins and forks. The muffins were big, fat and hefty sized. The carrot cake muffin was moist but not so much that it fell apart. So darn good. The frosting was heavenly, not too sweet and just the prefect consistency. I devoured that right away in the car. While I was inhaling the muffin, Hubs scarfed down the banana cream pie slice. The cookies were nice "biggish" size. These cookies were moist, which I prefer over crisp crunchy ones. Grandma Dave's PB was one of the best PB cookies I've ever had. They are also have breakfast menu and lunch menu (burgers, sandwiches, and salads). The place is very small with few two person tables. It's more of takeout place.

I also ordered a couple pastries to go - a twice baked almond croissant and a strawberries and whipped cream-filled croissant. The strawberry croissant was perfect. Huge mound of yummy whipped cream with chunks of strawberries in it and more sliced strawberries pressed into the outer edge. The croissant was deliciously flaky and buttery, as it should be. The almond croissant, sadly, was super dense and soggy. Full of what may have been an almond custard, given the texture and flavor. It was still tasty, but not at all the crispy croissant with the crunchy toasted almond topping that I was hoping for, given the twice-baked name.

We have tried different things on each visit and everything has been quite tasty. We have sat outside on the patio, so cannot speak to the inside other than restroom, which was fine - probably could be a little cleaner near bathrooms. Salmon with piccata sauce - really nice portion, it was quite large serving. The sauce was thicker than I am used to having, almost gravy-texture, but very flavorful. Delicious fresh veggies and I think it was a mashed potato (this was 2 weeks ago). French dip sandwich - hubby thought was spot on, really nice size. Only issue were his fries were a bit soggy. Calamari appetizer - LOVE this - it is really tasty, I prefer the tartar sauce with it, but the calamari is a really nice texture and tastes very fresh. Chicken tenders for kids - this is where I would knock them a bit, says panko crusted, these were not. They were identical to ones we get at Costco, which are great - really nice quality, but these were not what was expected. Fries again were soggy, so kind of a miss on the chicken tenders and fries. Hamburger - delicious my son said, toasted brioche bun was a nice touch. It was cooked well, decent portion as well, not too small and not too large. Steak and shrimp - while the steak was flavorful, it was thin, just slightly thicker than a flank cut. Shrimp were fine - overall it was a 3.5 out of 5 per the hubby. Pepperoni pizza - interesting. It tastes totally fine - its just felt like the dough was more focaccia? not pizza dough? The pepperoni were plentiful, not spicy (which is sometimes good for littles), and cheese was fresh. We enjoyed, but I think we are just spoiled by New York style. Desserts are hit or miss - cookies and the brownie have a really good flavor, but crumbly - like almost too crumbly. You hold and it falls out of your hand. They were out of coconut cream pie - so my hubby got a lemon pie, it was fine. The waitstaff has always been pleasant and attentive! We will hopefully be back on Friday!

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and found Portabello's to be a good brunch spot in Salinas. The service was fast, the food portions were big, the food tasted fresh, and it was a nice ambiance. The tuna salad itself was flavorful. It came with potatoes that unfortunately were probably the only miss for me. They seemed like they were not reheated all the way, so they had that slightly cold, rubbery texture. They also serve this little cucumber and tomato salad on the side that was absolutely delicious and honestly such a nice fresh side to my sandwich.
