Okay for a restaurant on the way, but quality at or below average. My fried chicken was too salty, way too salty. The soup was also bland, the burger patty very unseasoned and tasteless. Windmill never disappoints. First off the service is great the servers are on it.. it's rare you get someone rude.. the seating area is perfect. It's always packed here.. the food is delicious.. I personally enjoy the tri tip sandwich or the crispy chicken salad. The pricing is fair for the portions you get.. First off walking in here we noticed it was very clean, tables wiped down, silverware placed and ready for customers. Waitress had a smile and seated us right away and got all our drinks. It was a bit noisy from a family with a few rambunctious kids being kids, but after they left, it was very quiet and tolerable. We haven't been here for about a year and thought we would give it a try again. During Covid, everything lacked quality, customer service and satisfaction. Today the food was absolutely delicious, prices $$$ as all places these days were a little high, with most burgers and pasta plates starting around $15.00-$25.00. I'm good with price as long as my experience is worth the expense. The owner (Jose) is opening another Windmill Restaurant I hear in Salinas, Ca. coming soon. The servers were very nice and very attentive, something that lacks nowadays. Waitress kept glasses full and checked on us if we needed anything. If you're in the area, give this place a try, well worth it and you'll leave feeling satisfied and amazed that little hole in the walls still exist with great folks and food. Ordered a bit of everything--T-bone steak, ribs, seafood pasta, salad, mashed potatoes, minestrone soup, and finished off with apple pie and ice cream. Service was great--friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the service. The steak was a bit dry, and the ribs were even drier. Vegetables didn't look very fresh, and the seafood pasta tasted like something prepackaged from the grocery store. To top it off, I ended up with mild food poisoning the next day. As a Yelp elite, I am apprehensive about reviews not written by elites, since many times you can tell it's just people with an ax to grind and don't really use Yelp otherwise. We were driving up to monterey and needed a place to stop on the 101 for lunch. I usually don't go to places that are average under 3.9 or so unless it's a chain. This restaurant is right off the 101. The menu was fairly extensive, more options then I would have expected in a small town restaurant right next to a motel 6. They even had Harris ranch steak as dinner specials. We both ordered sandwiches. Both were pretty good, bread done nice and crunchy, fries crispy and tasty. Surprisingly many places can't do this correctly. The server was friendly and the restaurant itself fairly large. Very clean like others have said. Bathrooms also very clean. Lots of parking spaces in front. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again if I'm passing through. Recommended. read more

My dad and I LOVE this place! I always order the pesto Pasta, which tastes like a dream! One of my favorite dishes anywhere! The portion is large too, so I always have extra to take home. My dad absolutely loves the potato salad that is offered with sandwiches/burgers. The only thing he doesn't like is the big useless piece of lettuce placed under the potato salad. This dining area I want to say is basically attached to a Motel 6 just so people are aware. I will say the waiter was super nice and very attentive. It was slow on a Saturday night. The waiter seemed super patient as I was looking through the menu. This place is a bit more expensive than what I'd be expecting for a similar area and a quick stop, so if looking for a steak dinner, this might be your spot. I didn't try the steak or anything other than the pie and coffee, but it's a nice little spot for a stop on the road. The bathrooms are clean. Most of the rating is due to the service received. What a nice surprise! We pulled off the freeway looking for a little break & a snack. We arrived and were greeted by friendly faces, great service and a lot of menu options. We had the Big Sir sandwich (messy but delicious), the turkey club (with fresh sliced turkey and not just deli meat), the Greek salad with chicken (fresh lettuce & tasty chicken), and a kids Jr burger (good portion and lots of kids menu options). Came on a Sunday at lunch time. We were seated in a nice booth right away. Our waiter took our order quickly. Our food and drinks came up with little waiting. The hand held computer wouldn't work so there was a delay getting help to leave. We got a turkey club and grilled cheese with fries. They were ok. As a veggie choices are a bit limited for me. Grill cheese had a third slice of bread. So more breast than cheesy. Turkey club was ok but a bit greasy. All the bread was fried. Staff was friendly. We saw a Denny's off of the freeway so we took the exit. Turned out to be Soledad. I saw The Windmill and I thought it couldn't be worse than Denny's. It was a good choice. The menu says everything is fresh, not frozen. We were so happy. The food was delicious, the deserts were delicious, the service was excellent. When the original location was open in the heart of the Salinas valley, Gonzales, is when I fell in love with the food and service at The Windmill. I remember having the steak marsala for the first time in the well lit, but still homey, aesthetic in this restaurant housed in a building that was once and art deco'd bank. Now in Soledad, the food and service hasn't changed a bit... They just couldn't find a bank like the one in Gonzales :) read more

Ever since I moved to the city of Soledad I tried this restaurant. It's the best in town in my own opinion. All the staff are friendly and super helpful. There menu is amazing and the quality of food is always on point. Today I was helped by Adriana as our waitress and she was on top of all our needs. Great little restaurant right off 101 next to Motel 6 in Soledad. There are so many fast food options in this area, that it is nice to have a sit down restaurant that actually serves healthy options. I had a hard time deciding what to eat since everything on the menu looked so good. I ended up ordering the grilled shrimp avocado salad with balsamic dressing and it was so good. The food came out quick and the service was very good. The portion size was excellent. There was a ton of veggies, avocadoes, and shrimp in the salad, so I was pretty full by the end of the meal. I didn't expect to find such a good restaurant in a small town like Soledad. It is a great stop for lunch when traveling on 101.
