Stopped in on a random drive on the 101 and my girl and I really enjoyed their Carne Asada burrito. Mine with sour crème and hers without. We both really enjoyed them and would eat here again without reservation given the opportunity. Service was great with the waitress actively engaging us for our order, the later to check on the meal. Well big dawgs this place is mediocre at best. I ordered the carnitas burrito and it was ok. Nothing spectacular about it. No salsa no lemon was offered nor did she ask if I wanted any. My burrito was about 6 inches long and 4.5 inches wide.. wtf kinda burrito was that. And it was bland. I took 3 bites asked for a box and she gave me foil then walked out. I ordered the filete empanizado to go. It was ready pretty quickly which is no surprise tbh given the fact that I received previously frozen, breaded, store bought fish sticks. It was really like the frozen breaded fish sticks I buy at Trader Joe's which are not bad. They are definitely not what I expect to receive when I order from an "authentic " Mexican restaurant. The cheese in it was especially good and it was actually spicy, the way he likes it. I liked my cheese enchilada and vegetarian nachos. A review for the Mojarra Frita here caught my eye, and I have been hankering after some good fish, so a sunny Sunday found me here for lunch. A Chavela Preperada started things off (Hey, it's Sunday), and then the Tilapia arrived. They have a source for some big Tilapia, this was a big, delicious, Fried Fish. With salad, rice and fries, it was a heck of a meal. This was my third visit for take-out tonight and, once again, the food was brilliant. You're greeted with a warm smile when you come through the door, and the service is great. I again ordered two orders of three enchiladas (one order of cheese and one chicken) with green sauce. Absolutely delicious! Also ordered their chile relleno, which is quite possibly the best I've ever tasted (and I told the proprietor that while ordering). For my money, this is some of the best Mexican good I've had in this town. I came here around noon on a Saturday and it was somewhat packed with only one server. I didn't mind it because the service was still great and we had no problem waiting for the food. We ordered the big nachos with chrome, a shrimp tostada, and aguachiles verde. The aguachiles takes 20 minutes to prepare so I would order ahead if you can. It was a little to watery for my liking. I'm used to the verde sauce being a thicker consistency. Also they did not have a lot of onions, only like 7 very thin slices. The cucumbers on top were very old. The shrimp tostada was the worst. Nothing about it was authentic and the ingredients were very old. The big nachos were my favorite. Perfect portions!!! Great ingredients and really hit the spot. Chips and salsa are very good. The water of tamarindo is everything you want the agua frescas to be. You can tell they do it by hand the agua de frescas. I ordered the torta of carnitas and it was all around pretty tasty. My dad ordered 3 tacos de asada and they were pretty solid too. read more

It's decent but then again I didn't order much. The vegetarian options here are slim to none so I'm basing it off of that. So basically you can get a bean and cheese burrito, a veggie burrito (lettuce, tomato, rice, beans), or omelette a la Mexicana which has tomatos onions and jalapenos. The inside had a decent amount of seating for a small place, nothing all that fancy tho. There is one TV but it wasn't on at the time when I went in. There are deals on beer such as a beer bazooka, and you can get a metal bucket of cold ones for your table. The service isn't crazy friendly or anything, just business and to the point. I don't know if I'd come here for beer specials unless I knew there's a game going on of some sort and even then it is debateable. I had ordered the veggie burrito with fajita vegetables added and no rice. Ended up being mostly just onions, no bell peppers. All in all, basic burrito, good size. I'd have to order something else to really gauge if this would be a place to come back to but for vegetarian needs I think I would abstain. Don't get me wrong, the burrito wasn't terrible but it wasn't anything to call home about either. read more

If I could rate ZERO stars I would. Came by for some tacos. Didn't expect to get what I got. LOL. It looked like they walked across the street to FoodsCo, got a rotisserie chicken and bag of salad from there and made a "taco." No salsa, no lime/lemon or radish. Save yourself the time and go to Taco Bell across the way to get a more authentic taco than this place. I couldn't even eat more than 1. On our way up from Pismo to the Bay Area we stopped on Soledad for gas. Since we hadn't eaten yet, we decided to do that and found this little Mexican place. Nice menu. I had ceviche de pescado and tacos adobada. The ceviche was solid, fresh. The adobada was a little dry and more salty than having other flavors. Jack had a burrito with chicken. He liked it. Perhaps I should not have ordered meat in a place that is called Mariscos. The menu looked very extensive with the usual Caldos, Cocteles, etc. But I also saw Agua chile. The only place I've ever seen that was in Mazatlan. Service was by a delightful and friendly young woman. A nice stop. read more

Almost all of the 10 or so Mexican Restaurants in this small town have good Yelp reviews and only a couple of them, as far as I could see, were written by East Bay Yelpers. That did not surprise me Soledad is not a tourist hot spot. I chose Mariscos Puerto Angel for three reasons: it was easy to park, the other two other places, (CVS and Subway) I wanted to stop at were nearby, and the menu was extensive. It took me a long time to decide what I wanted, the server came over several times to try and take my order. I had to tell I would let her know when I was ready. I finally decided on bistec rancheros. The thinly sliced beef was tender. The tomatoes, onion slices and peppers were perfect, tender but not mushy. Other than garlic, I'm not sure what spices were added to this dish, they did add quite a bit of heat. The corn tortillas that came with this plate were fresh. The whole meal was great. The bistec plate was a huge; I took the leftovers back to the motel with me. I thought they would make a nice lunch the next day. I put them on the table rather than in my cooler or the mini refrig. The leftovers did not last that long. They had perfumed my room all night. When I got up at 4am to leave for the workshop I was attending I finished them off. They tasted even better than they did the night before. I ate them at room temperature after realizing that perhaps the smell might wake people in the adjacent rooms When I am in the area I will eat here again. read more

My current go to Mexican restaurant in Soledad. Earlier this week I ordered the chicken avocado melt with fries. It was delicious. Juicy, well seasoned chicken breast with pepper jack cheese and avocado. The fries were nice and crispy.Yesterday I ordered a chile relleno, a fish taco and a shrimp taco. I'm picky with chile rellenos , but I loved the chile relleno from here. I also really liked the fish taco. I like how it was grilled and not fried.
