She saw me buying a canned Bobba tea and said she was a Boba lover too and asked if I'd f tried Chopstix.... ISURPRISED RICE! I usually don't order at this location, but today I did and let me tell you this is not the one. I eat a lot of Vietnamese/asian food and today this is far from it. I was craving fried rice and fried chicken but today I got some sort of orange rice that looks like it's from the Spanish restaurant. Don't get me wrong I love Spanish food but this taste awful. It was dry AF had no Flavor and did I say it was dry AF. Anyways I don't ever waste my food but I also don't want to choke on it. I couldn't take anymore so the trash it goes. This does not seem like the same Chopstix as before. Perhaps they've changed owners and are attempting to mimic their recipes...We came here recently after having the Chopstix in Monterey about a month before. The plating & quality/flavor was way off. The Pho broth had a yellowish color and tasted like chicken bouillon. The portions were much smaller than what we were accustomed to receiving at the Chopstix in Monterey. What's worse is their bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in quite some time - there was literal fecal matter on the toilet seat, no soap and no paper towels. One thing that is important to me is cleanliness. If they can't keep their ONE bathroom clean what else are they not putting care and attention to behind the scenes? We order from here often via Uber Eats and almost every time we order something is missing (food, sauce, utensils, chopsticks, etc) or our order is wrong. Yesterday, half of our order didn't even arrive with the driver. I called the restaurant and the young gentleman working was unable to confirm if the missing part of my order was in house and left behind or if it was even made at all. He tried to help but ultimately was unable to. We were not going to drive in to pick up because of the time and distance, which is why we use a delivery service.. This is my absolute favorite place to get wonton soup it is extremely flavorful bountiful and one order can definitely be for two people. When they do it to go order I don't know how it's possible but their soup stays extremely hot even until you get to the house. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful at this location. We have eaten here at this Salinas Chopstix many times. I was confident I would enjoy a nice meal and not have to cook. However, this was in my tofu stir fry. The broccoli is old with black mold and the tofu has green mold. This is what they are cooking, and boxing up in your to-go box. To the cook, "Would you eat this yourself? Would you serve this to your family?" This was $9.50 and a waste of money because it's going in the garbage can and I am not asking for credit to eat the there again. Totally unacceptable. Yay! Finally a Chopstix in Salinas! ^^ I don't usually go to Chopstix for their food dishes, but I decided to try more than just their pho. If you ask me, I'm not a huge fan of pho at Chopstix.. if anything the rice plates and snacks are sooo much better! In fact they've got more variety ;) Today I got the pho combination without the tripe. The tendon was really soft, which is good but it dropped in my soup a lot. I especially enjoyed the rare steak and the beef balls though! My favorite! ^^ The noodles were thicker than what I'm use to, but still packed so much flavor. The broth had a flowery and aromatic taste as well, if you're a big fan of that. BBQ chicken plate that my friend got was delicious! He devoured it- and said that he was afraid it would taste "flowery" since it smelled like that when we came inside, but it was more on the savory side. I thought of chicken teriyaki! Addition to more chicken, we tried their snack plate for their popcorn chicken. Yummy! Crunchy on outside and moist on the inside. Will definitely come back for more of their snack plates. Finally.. BOBA! Ugh don't get me started.. I think this will be my go to place for boba from now on because of the amount of flavors hehe. I will not be ordering them again. The broth was flavorless, none of the veggies were even soft in the slightest, they were very raw, which doesn't release any of the veggie flavors in the broth. The qualities that set Chopstix apart are the quality, the flavor, and the freshness of the food offered here. The flavors are bold and intense. Each ingredient in my dish was the star. I ordered the basil-eggplant rice plate and it was amazing. The eggplant was perfectly cooked - not to the point of mushiness. The basil was sharp and surprising. The chicken was juicy and tender. The sauce was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Even the rice was top-notch - fragrant and well-cooked. I mean, I've given a lot of 5 stars here on Yelp, but trust me guys - this 5 is no joke.
