Great sushi! A little loud since all the booths are near each other but we didn't really mind. The sushi quality was pretty good for AYCE but it wasn't anything that was too special or anything. We didn't go in super hungry but we did order a good amount with variety! The stir fried udon was a bit overcooked and sticky/slimy. I also had to add soy sauce since it didn't have much flavor. Rolls were typical and they were smaller rolls which we liked since it gave us the opportunity to try different ones! I would not recommend the hand rolls (we got the California handroll and it was a whole entire imitation crab stick inside). Minus these few, everything else was mostly pretty good for AYCE and I would probably be back if in the area!

I was absolutely blown away by this place. The decor is nice and inviting with a modern Asian ambiance. The service was great! Ordering is super simple. Thankfully we didn't need pictures because my party is very familiar with sushi. As for the food, I was impressed, both by the taste AND the price. $29.99/person, which includes unlimited sashimi, absolutely worth it. They didn't skimp on the size of the sashimi either. The only sad part for me was that they didn't have green tea ice cream, but I still very much recommend this place if you want sushi. Also, the white tuna sashimi, not every place has it, so would recommend this very much

I haven't paid $18.99 for all you can eat sushi for over 10 years, so that alone gives Sakura Sushi an automatic 5 stars. With this in mind, there's really nothing to complain about because the value exceeds everything else. We came here on a Monday afternoon and got the lunch AYCE special. There were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant and 3 sushi chefs in the kitchen, more in the back. The service could have been faster, but again, at this price it's really hard to say anything negative about it. The lunch menu is much smaller than their dinner menu. We went here for dinner on a Friday evening and it wasn't too packed but I can't remember the cost, possibly $30 or less per person. The usual suspects include: - agedashi tofu - vegetable tempura - shrimp tempura - miso soup - salmon nigiri - freshwater eel nigiri (dinner only) - yellowtail nigiri - white tuna nigiri - rainbow roll - green tea ice cream If you really want eel for lunch, they have it in a standard roll. I also recommend the cream cheese wonton! One thing I love about this location is that you order the appetizers and nigiri per piece. That way, you don't feel guilty about wasting any food because you set the amount yourself. The fish to rice ratio could be better. I'd consider it to be standard but obviously they need to make money somehow so again, no complaints here. It's hard to find good reliable sushi spots and this is easily my top AYCE sushi restaurant in Phoenix. (27/100--2024)

Sister site to the one in Gilbert and both serve an affordable and tasty AYCE sushi experience. I went for their $19.99 AYCE lunch and I find the variety to be sufficient. The service here was insanely fast. We placed our order via paper slips and received our food within a few minutes. The fish was cut thickly but the ratio of rice about 2:1. While the rice texture was pleasant, I would have liked it to be seasoned better. *Miso Soup: hot, salty, and simple. My bowl did not contain seaweed or tofu. *Seaweed Salad: sweet and chewy. The single serving was enough to last me the entire meal. *Yellowtail: my favorite piece. This was tender and fatty without being fishy. *Salmon: not the fattiness salmon I've tried but still tasty. Our first round of salmon was noticeably cut thicker than the second. The thicker cut was preferred given the amount of rice given. *Spicy Salmon: would not order this again as the salmon wasn't minced properly. The mixture needed to be more fine so then it could mix with the Sriracha better. Overall, this was a poor take on the classic spicy tuna. *Tuna: sweet and lean but not fishy. Nicely soft too. *Tamago: on the sweeter side and I would have preferred some greater density to the egg. Doubling the thickness would make it equivalent to the standard size of what I usually have in other restaurants. *Ice Cream: grocery store quality and not freezer burnt. Not extraordinary but I like having a dessert option included. Still the best lunch value AYCE sushi in Arizona. The seafood quality isn't mind blowing but it definitely surpasses the under $20 price tag. The service is especially fast and friendly here so I prefer this location over the one in Mesa.

Don't be a Samantha (apparently that's the next level up from a See You Next Tuesday Karen). I JUST ate here. Left 20 minutes ago. Myself and my sister both used the restrooms. Samantha/Karen is full of ... fecal matter. Don't know WHY she's hating on this place...just being a Karen apparently. Restrooms were spotless. The restaurant was spotless. On our way out, the servers were wiping down the wood divider walls. Food was pretty solid! Great rolls, good nigiri, good seaweed salad. And terrific service. Parents tell your kids: don't be a Samantha. No reason to be a shitty, bitter troll.

Sakura Sushi - A Rollin' Good Time! When my usual sushi spot ghosted me, I rolled the dice on Sakura Sushi--and hit the jackpot! $30 all-you-can-eat for two hours kept my chopsticks busy and my tastebuds dancing. The sushi was fresh, the tempura crisp, and the udon a cozy hug in a bowl. But let's spill the tea... the iced tea here SLAPS. Cold, crisp, and perfect for washing down spicy tuna and tempura dreams. It's my sushi sidekick--and worth the rave. And don't even get me started on the wasabi. So good it'll make you cry--that fiery, flavor-packed burn everyone loves and hates at the same time. Honestly, it's better than Red Bull for waking you up! Service was speedy and sweet, plates disappeared like magic, and the vibe was chill enough for solo dining or a sushi squad. Sakura Sushi? I'm soy into you.

We got seated right away and I loved that they put a party of 2 in a pretty big booth. I love the big red water cups. Some food came fast, and others were forgotten (twice we had to remind). Specialty rolls are pretty filling and come with 8 pieces. Lots of specialty roll options. One of the nicer ambiances for an all you can eat sushi. About $31 a person for dinner. We came @5pm and it wasn't busy but when we left it was. I'm kinda over all you can eat sushi places, nothing special but the ice creams were the best part lowkey.

Great place for AYCE sushi. The price is right as are all of the items that are available. Food comes out pretty quickly and everthing was great.

Very affordable AYCE sushi for only $18.99 during lunch hour which even includes ice cream. It's obviously not the best sushi but you can try a large variety which is nice. I liked the salmon and white tuna nigiri's the best. Also tried some rolls and they were fine. The onion tempura was greasy. Service was very friendly and prompt.

Eel & avocado hand roll (pretty good) and New York roll (not that good, topping if real mushy and filling is too spicy)

Pretty good for an ayce. If you eat the same rolls over and over you will start to feel like they are tasting the same, but a few of them were actually quite good to start with. Salmon avocado roll, rainbow roll (really delicious and just the right amount of rice with generous amounts of fish inside and on top), shrimp tempura roll (freshly fried shrimp, but kind of non descript), and Out of Control roll (very delicious and very generous fish filling, not too spicy even for my kids) Eel & avocado hand roll (pretty good) and New York roll (not that good, topping if real mushy and filling is too spicy) Eggplant tempura, yakitori tasty but over burnt, onion rings were good, freshly fried. Green tea ice cream, tasty but not very flavorful, creamy, but kind of bland. Need more dessert choices like fried donut holes or the fried bananas or something more Japanese Overall, pretty good choices, but wish they didn't take away the sashimi and some of the previously available choices and rolls.

California hand roll, spicy crab

This place has always tasted great. I've been here several times and the food and service has been great. You can sit at the counter or in a booth and every time it's been great.

The food was really bad but you want to know what was worst? The service. I've never gone to a place where servers had so much attitude for no reason rolling eyes whispering under their breath as if we aren't right in their face. The environment felt very depressing, no type of love for the job for the experience for their customers. Except for 1 server she was a younger asian lady she looked like she wanted her guest to enjoy their time there and I wished we had her instead it would've made the experience better not the food though no shade.

Luna H.

We went here for a family dinner together. Our service was quick, our server did a great job at getting the food out pretty quickly and the other staff did a great job making sure dishes were cleaned off the tables in a timely manner. There were six of us at our table and the place was packed, there was only one time they forgot to bring an order that was put in for the all you can eat thing otherwise we were happy with the service. The food was good, I really enjoyed everything I received except for one item & that was only because the menu didn't describe what was in one of the rolls and I didn't realize an ingredient I didn't like was in it. We all ordered different foods & everything was cooked to the right temp and was delicious. We would be happy to come back again in the future. The restaurant was clean & comfortable.

We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX.

But I know tables around us were starting to be fed up as well. Despite this, our waiter did cover 1 of the desserts which was nice. And overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the decor and the food. My favorite was honestly the wagyu nigiri and uni nigiri, but everything was delicious. I loved the scallops temaki, loved the mango roll (something different) and the toro sashimi. The burnt cheesecake with caviar was also a hit! My friend got the "oh my god" roll which was a fascinating presentation and she got her mochi ice cream which was also very light and refreshing. I would definitely come back despite the little hiccup!

They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!
