I was highly recommended to try this Sushi place by my boss that is a restaurant owner himself. After the recommendation he ended up giving out gift cards to all of the employees for Christmas! Yay! Don't be fooled by the small shopping Center location! This place is by far the best sushi in Auburn.(maybe even placer county) We had the Deep Fried Philly Roll, which was the best deep fried roll I have had. I am not usually into fried rolls at all but this was something special. The batter was light and crunchy but flavorful and everything else tasted really fresh. The miso soup was great as well! It was perfect not overly salted and the seaweed was fresh. We also tried the Auburn roll, and the Arizona roll. Both tasted amazing and the fish and ingredients were fresh. I cant emphasize that enough, alot of sushi places will be good with everything put together... but you can tell that all the ingredients aren't exactly up to par... Sakura Sushi in Auburn tastes fresh and quality! Although we had the super Americanized rolls I have been to Japan and had alot of sushi so I know how the fish is supposed to taste. This restaurant is doing it right! I can't wait to try the more traditional rolls. The decor inside is super cute as well, everything down to the the origami cranes at each table. We popped in on a late Friday afternoon. It was slightly busy. One chef and one server. Food tasted great. We were really happy about it...of course felt it was expensive but we're paying that "up the hill" tax. Wait time was long. Bf never got his beer. There were regulars sitting at the small sushi bar getting rolls every couple of minutes, talking to the only chef and being boisterous while the few other patrons at table tops had to wait even longer for every item. Read the room guys. Chef looks stressed and everyone sitting behind you looks bored with empty tables while you pile up more small plates on your bar. I know it's up to the establishment to control that but....man. It's like emptying two shopping carts on an express lane conveyer belt, laughing with the cashier, showing pics of your grandkids while we're all standing behind you with an apple and a granola bar to pay for. Oh wait? Of course you're pulling a checkbook out and asking for a pen.... At home is where things go awry. Bf was sick within a couple of hours. I think, "fine...he's got a sensitive stomach and it could be anything". But when my Asian-islander-bum-gut starts bubbling....it's a problem. I have been eating vinegar, soy sauce, chilis all my life. I descend from a people where refrigeration is a luxury. We eat food that's been left out...I know this is cultural and I know my gut biome is built for it. But I got sick. So...although food is good. I do think that it's busy enough in the restaurant to hire and train staff that can help. Clean properly, help keep temperature of food right, etc. if I get sick? It's generally not the food but more than likely a sanitary issue. Disappointing...even though we left bummed about the service and cost, we were making plans on what to order next time. there is something here. Quaint place with AMAZING FOOD! As this place is BRAND NEW and my boyfriend and I are sushi fanatics naturally we had to try it out. Hands down AMAZING. Simple menu, and they do it right! We ordered the Forever Roll, Arizona Roll and the Oregon Roll - they were fresh and exactly what I expected! And the service was prompt and efficient. A little under decorated I wouldn't recommend this for a super fancy date night (hence the lack of 5 stars) but it was perfect for a casual dinner out before bowling. We will be in again! read more

Small Sushi shop. Sushi chef Hank is a pro. Not much in a way of cooked Japanese foods you would find in other restaurants but if you want Sushi this is the place to go! Sure ihr makes the standard Maki Zushi (rolls with all the various stuff). It is his Nigiri Zushi that is on point. The sashimi on top of the rice is a really nice cut of fish on a small rice nigiri. Awful experience. First off, there wasn't any person in the Front Of House, for a good 5 minutes after I walked in the door. It was 1:15 pm on a Friday. Ordered a three item "lunch box" special. This was mistaken because the items were served on a round plate. For 13 dollars, it should have been a traditional wood or plastic Bento Box. The menu said box. Food was not good. Teriyaki chicken was dried out and insipid. Too salty. Salmon was a cheap farmed variety. The spicy tuna roll had avocado...who does that? Eh. I've had a lot better. Based on other reviews in the Auburn area, this seems to be one of the most highly rated sushi restaurants. However, if you are used to super fresh, flavorful and well made sushi rolls, you will likely be underwhelmed. I got the Sunrise, OMG and Sweet Heat rolls. For a tiny establishment, Sakura Sushi is a definite treat for the Auburn area. I began going to Sakura shortly after they opened their doors, and I have watched their 'regular' customer group continue to grow. Don't expect 'cheap' (although the prices are very reasonable), the owner puts a ton of effort into providing specials that you can't get anywhere else. I was surprised the first time I was offered one of their fresh specials which were fresh oysters.
