Tucked away in down town, my man and I went out for date night on 6/13 around 8:15pm and so glad we did! Got stuffed mushrooms that were the size of my palms! We split the family boat since we were feeling spontaneous. My man got a beer, I got unfiltered sake. And we each had a scallop shooter. Altogether bill was $150. Seating was interesting. We sat on the wall and it was a square table that is pushed up to one side and like an L shape seating. So only one way in, one way out. Was warm inside, I think I overheard them talking about the AC wasn't working. But that wasn't a big deal, to us at least. Our server was in training and it was our first time so I did have a couple of questions which she went to ask which is no problem. I told her we're just learning together :) service was great. On April 21st I went out with my girlfriend to celebrate my 53rd birthday and decided to give Sake Sushi a try. The inside looked clean and new and I was excited to dig in. We were seated by the pleasant host with blonde hair and given menus. I should mention going in that I have 25 years of management experience in the Bay Area from casual to fine dining. I'm "not working" when I go out, but I'm aware of restaurant basics, like it's Gospel no matter what restaurant you're in that you're at least greeted by a server, even if in passing, within two minutes. Five minutes (true time) passed until the host came by again, this time to drop off waters without a word. Another five minutes passed (real time) so I went to the host stand and very politely asked if there were any servers available to take our order as we had not yet been greeted. She and another server both looked surprised and apologized, then told that a server would be there shortly, so I went back and waited with my girlfriend. I should also mention that in the front part of the restaurant, there was a four top in front of us that finished up and left, leaving us and three other two tops. It wasn't a busy night and no one was in the weeds. As we waited I counted at least five staff members gathered around one of the terminals, looking up at us then back down again and discussing. It seemed like they were trying to figure out whose fault it was for forgetting us instead of someone just jumping on it. I started getting frustrated because they obviously knew we were there, but there was no action. So finally after three minutes of this (real time) a tall blonde kid comes up and without looking at us and without irony asked if we were ready to order. After taking our order he stopped (mind you he didn't introduce himself, didn't apologize on behalf of the restaurant for having us wait and never made eye contact as he was holding the device up close to his face) and abruptly said "I need to go get a manager", and left my girlfriend and I to look at each other in confusion. He goes back to the group, and it was a group!!!, of employees standing around the terminal. Another three minutes (real time) passed and I finally couldn't take it anymore. At this point I lost confidence that our order would be placed on time and brought out on time and did something I have never done in my life and walked out. I will mention that I was very polite and never rude in my limited interactions with the staff. As we were walking out I turned to get their attention and said 'thank you' and left as the group stood there looking at us, no words, no gestures, nothing. So I was very disappointed that my birthday dinner got ruined before it began so we took our business to Jinme, who were more than happy to take care of us and they did. I know from experience that servers and restaurants can have "bad nights" and I also know that there are a lot of good reviews here, so maybe this was one of those nights. For a server, tables equal money. The more customers you serve, the more money you make. So it completely blows my mind that five employees can stand around a monitor discussing who is going to take the table instead of taking it and just let money walk out the door... any one of those servers could have made an EASY 30% tip from me... We came in 40 min before closing this evening, and unfortunately it didn't get the 4.8 stars shown on here for me :/ short version is that the tempura in the rolls I got was cold and soft, roll pieces were too big and broccoli in bento box was cold as well. I did really like the way the lemon was added to the salmon roll. The sunomono salad was also very good, as well as the potstickers. When we walked in it looked like the owner was chatting with some people and we were ignored for a couple minutes. A very sweet hostess came to seat us and the owner was in her way to get the menus and basically didn't move. Regardless, our server was very sweet and professional. Time in and out was pretty good. Everything was great the food was coming out fast but when the waiter got the order wrong. I brought it to their attention and suddenly everything changed. They stoped coming to our table. Didn't bother to ask if we need anything else or if we wanted the check. Would not recommend. Not to mention I had repeated my order and pointed exactly at what I was asking for. read more

Saw this new sushi restaurant so my hubby and I waited until it opened for dinner- well, Auburn Endurance Race was going on that day on the weekend so it was fun to eat and also see the runners come into the finish line which was right at the base turning corner of the block! The sushi portions are generous and tasty. We ordered the rainbow roll and BBQ albacore tuna- staples that most sushi restaurant has on the menu. Both were Very good- just that the BBQ tuna came totally different that what I'm used to. Didn't taste or see any grilling or flavor but seemed like sashimi laid flat on a plate with some kind of sauce over the top- still overall was tasty; maybe wouldn't order that again though. OMG for the Korean fried chicken wings- delish and so crunchy! Get quite a bit of pieces too then darn it- I dropped one on the floor and gasped! Lol. The deep fried tofu was crispy but was sliced thin and then fried, it was okay, had better. The restaurant's building had been redone with other restaurants before this one- decor ambiance is cozy with a bar atmosphere and some booths and a few outdoor tables but lacks the Asian flare. David was and awesome server he got an answer to all my questions. Place was clean, like the recessed booths. Lighting and music was good. Friday night 7pm wasn't a wait list, but had lot of customers. Agedashi tofu was 10 perfectly crisp and I liked the sauce was little sweeter. vegetarian 1: give a 9, adding the special sauce was good. chicken roll: give a 4, didn't care for the cold chicken. was better with side a teriyaki sauce. Mango Madness give 6, couldn't really taste the mango. Scallop Nigiri: gave a 7 was meaty, buttery and tender. Menu was very diverse. This place was fantastic! The ambience was nice, the bathrooms were clean and nicely decorated. Our server was friendly, helpful and efficient. We enjoyed and appreciated her banter. The food was excellent. Nothing clashed with the flavors in our sushi rolls. There weren't excessive sauces or other palate numbing ingredients with any of our rolls. Each of the rolls which our table ordered were exceptionally well balanced and the flavors of the individual ingredients complimented each other as sushi is intended to do. Some of the rolls which we ordered and which were very well received, included: The Sacramento, David's Special, Dragon, & Spicy Tuna. It is by the Auburn Clock Tower! I enjoyed the child order of chicken teriyaki. Had the chicken, four pieces the dry seaweed, rice, fries! Cost of $9.65 with tax, good price. For me any child menu should be ten dollars plus tax or less, so the nine dollars and sixty five cents with tax was good price for me! We got our drinks ; however, napkins and utensils had to be asked for repeatedly. It took forever for the food to arrive and when it did it was excellent. One beer was served in a cracked glass and it was never replaced even with repeated requests. The food variety is good, including some Korean, and the taste profile is excellent. Came here for dinner tonight and Complete disappointment!!! First and foremost, we found a fly in my kids water cup right at the end when I opened up the lid. The paper cup was white and would they have paid attention when they were pouring the water, they should have seen the fly. The udon soup was like eating a bowl of salt. We literally used an entire cup of water to dilute the soup. It was that salty. My kids couldn't even enjoy their food since it was already cold and salty. Sushi was ok but we couldn't enjoy it after seeing that fly in our water. Customer service was lacking. The girl sat us down and we had to call someone to get our order after 20 mins of sitting down and waiting. Never coming back here!!! read more

First time here. Nice ambiance. The kitchen is two floors up and everything from the kitchen Is hand carried by the servers, so the ramen was hot but not piping hot. EXCELLENT pork belly, minimal fat. Liked the spinach and bread sprouts in there too. Very thin noodles. Very tender. Lots of sushi choices in Auburn now. I wish these folks well, too. read more

Came here after a nice hike at the hidden Falls. The place is in downtown Auburn. It has a nice outdoor area and really lovely indoor area. They do both sushi as well as Ramen. We didn't get a chance to try the sushi, but we did order the Tom Katsu Ramen, as well as the jalapeño bombs. Jalapeño bombs were very nice , almost like a tempura sushi . The ramen was good. Excellent broth , decent noodle (would have liked a better chew) , the pork was a little thick for my taste but delicious nonetheless. Service was efficient and with. Smile .
