Scallop and shrimp teriyaki add chicken...i requested no vegetables
Shaun L.

I ordered scallop and shrimp teriyaki and added $2 worth of chicken, NO VEGETABLES. Over $17! Check out the picture of what I received. Then when I called they asked if I can just take them out myself. I told them no and wanted to bring it back. I was welcomed back to a bit of an attitude and who knows what else. Do yourself a favor and take heed to these reviews. Don't patronize this spot

Okay. If you're in a hurry, here's the skinny on Sakura Express (SE): thumbs up on their Sakura Special (SS), but skip the sushi. If you have time, here's my slightly longer review... We are regulars at Little Caesars next door, and when I spotted a new sushi restaurant opening up, my oldest was excited. We decided to check it out yesterday. The interior is nice and clean, with several tables. You order at the counter, pay, and then wait until they call you. SE is fast food, but it definitely took a bit longer than most--maybe 15 to 20 minutes. The service was friendly, and it was fun to watch the cooks prepare the food. California Roll- These were mediocre with way too much cucumber, overpowering everything else in the roll. 3* Spicy Shrimp Roll- My oldest ordered these and he said the filling was mushy and indescribable with an odd flavor--not very spicy, either. 2* Miso Soup- Does anyone else think that miso soup tastes like ham? Maybe it's just me. SE's miso was decent, although my oldest felt it needed some salt. 3.5* Sakura Special Teriyaki Style with Chicken- This is the best thing on their menu. The SS comes with protein (chicken, steak, tilapia, shrimp, scallops, salmon, and combinations), fried rice, carrots and your choice of Hibachi Style (mushrooms and zucchini) or Teriyaki Style (broccoli and zucchini). It comes in regular or large and the regular is a nice, large portion. Everything tasted fresh, especially the vegetables! 4* We all agreed that we will return for the Special, but skip the sushi. The SS are a great value, tasty, and fairly healthy--a nice change from fast food.

Tucked in the middle of a busy strip mall, Sakura Express offers teriyaki, hibachi, and sushi on a fast food scale. Help yourself to beverages. The restaurant is clean and service is ok. My husband and I ordered two of the same- chicken and steak teriyaki. A little light on the protein but the veggies were fresh. The peas in the rice lost their color. Overall with it being fast food it was ok.

The sushi here is excellent. I have been here several times and have always had good food. My only suggestion would be having people taking orders that are a little more friendly and personable. That is that only reason I gave four stars.

Steak and shrimp hibachi was amazing this is the large and I've already eaten out of it! Leftovers!:-)

See all

I ordered vegetable tempura. The batter was gross and the vegetables tasted bitter and rubbery. Please change the frying oil.

It had been quite a while since my last visit to Sakura Sushi, and I'm pleased to say that things…read morehave improved dramatically since then. Yes, the prices have gone up -- but honestly, what hasn't these days? More importantly, the quality of the food and the overall presentation have risen right along with them. Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of All You Can Eat sushi restaurants. I tend to subscribe to the old adage: "You get what you pay for." Too often, AYCE sushi focuses on quantity at the expense of freshness and execution. Fortunately, Sakura seems to have moved well beyond that stereotype. I started the meal with Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad. Both were fresh and flavorful. The miso soup was particularly enjoyable, with a generous amount of tofu, but not so much that it overwhelmed the broth. Everything felt balanced and thoughtfully prepared. The seaweed salad was good as well, refreshing and lightly dressed without being overly sweet. Next came an order of Beef Short Rib. The meat arrived piping hot, thinly sliced with the bone attached, alongside a simple dipping sauce that complemented the beef rather than masking it. After letting it cool slightly, I found it tender, savory, and very satisfying. Trying to eat at least pseudo healthy, I opted for sashimi instead of traditional sushi rolls and ordered Tuna, Salmon, Snapper, and Yellowtail. Everything tasted fresh and clean, exactly what you hope for when ordering raw fish. I also ordered the Tuna Tataki, which was nicely prepared and packed with flavor. One of the highlights of the evening was the Greenbrier Roll, made with spicy snapper and topped with spicy crab and avocado. The presentation was beautiful, and the combination of flavors and textures worked exceptionally well together. And finally, I finished the evening with an order of Fried Ice Cream... partly because it sounded good, and partly so I could brag to my granddaughter about it later. Overall, I had a genuinely enjoyable experience at Sakura Sushi. It's refreshing to see a restaurant improve in both quality and consistency, and based on this visit, I'm already looking forward to returning again.

Our family truly enjoys every visit to Sakura Japanese Restaurant! Our favorites can all be ordered…read morefrom the Lunch AYCE menu which offers great appetizers, classic rolls and special rolls. We like how fresh and fast everything we order comes out to our table. Service is always friendly and the staff check on us often. The decor and colorful flags and lights add to the whismy and welcoming atmosphere. We suggest that you come for a meal with one or two other friends so that you can enjoy trying different menu items by sharing them!
