We came in on a Saturday early evening and were able to be seated right away. We ordered the hot green tea, which was really good quality and came in a cool cup (that matters to me). Then we ordered one of each of the veggie rolls. Being vegan we're usually used to boring cucumber rolls but there were many different options (5) that were all very different and delicious. Even if you aren't vegan these are worth a try! The sweet potato roll was so good! The restaurant itself is very clean and cozy! I loved the interior design and vibe here. The service was also great and we left very satisfied!

This is the best sushi place we've ever been. We usually go at least once a month or even twice. We tried different sushi place but nothing beats yama. The service and food is so amazing.

    Pan fried pork Gyoza

This past weekend my I went to the Yama Sushi restaurant in Chesapeake. The waitress seated my date and I quickly and took our orders. I wanted the pan fried gyoza as an appetizer and the chicken yakisoba for the main meal. The gyoza is a pan fried pork dumpling. The chicken yakisoba is stir fried chicken, vegetables, and noodles. It is seasoned with soy sauce. The meal was fresh, light, and tasty. I was satisfied and happy. I will definitely go back there. This was a great experience. Thank you to the staff there.

Sushi is my favorite food, so I feel qualified to say that this is one of the best sushi restaurants in Hampton Roads! :) When people ask me for a good sushi restaurant, Yama Sushi is usually my recommendation. They have a good diversity of rolls and the fish always tastes fresh. My favorites are the Hawaii and Dream rolls. Plus, they always go the extra mile with their food presentation. I never forget to take a picture of my food when I eat here because it looks so cool. The staff is friendly, and we almost always get a complimentary roll and pieces of candy. I also love the interior decor of the restaurant, so bright and unique. I've also had food delivered from here to my house, and the sushi tastes just as fresh as it does when you dine in the restaurant. I just love this place!

14$ so small and not tasty

Okay so, love this place. The owner/staff are SUPER nice and personable. The prices are great and my drink was never empty. Bathroom was clean and there was a changing table and fresh soap/disposable paper towels. The sushi was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect! Cherry on top is every time you go the owner gives you a free sushi roll! Been to many sushi places but this one is my FAVORITE. Will continue to come and eat lots of sushi!!! (Duper cute decor inside too.)

Yama Sushi is a solid place to eat, they never ever disappoint! Staff says hello and greets with smiles when you walk in. Decor is still amazing and it's such a small yet cozy place. We ordered the sushi boat and all was delicious ! The tuna was so fresh! I love the presentation of the food, it makes the experience extra special. The earthquake roll was my ultimate favorite! They gave us a complimentary half roll called seaweed roll. They give you chocolate treats at the end of your meal, so nice . I love their herbal green tea too! Yamas rocks !

The was my first time visiting Yama Sushi. My coworker took me and it was amazing. I loved the decor and the atmosphere. The food was amazing. I had miso soup, and a lunch box with a volcano roll and a super duper roll. It also includes edamame and a salade with ginger dressing. I loved everything! My coworker got dumplings and edamame and an avocado salade. The service was ok. At 1 point I thought the server forgot about us. But I'll still be going back for sure.

Yes, the prices have gone up -- but honestly, what hasn't these days? More importantly, the quality of the food and the overall presentation have risen right along with them. Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of All You Can Eat sushi restaurants. I tend to subscribe to the old adage: "You get what you pay for." Too often, AYCE sushi focuses on quantity at the expense of freshness and execution. Fortunately, Sakura seems to have moved well beyond that stereotype. I started the meal with Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad. Both were fresh and flavorful. The miso soup was particularly enjoyable, with a generous amount of tofu, but not so much that it overwhelmed the broth. Everything felt balanced and thoughtfully prepared. The seaweed salad was good as well, refreshing and lightly dressed without being overly sweet. Next came an order of Beef Short Rib. The meat arrived piping hot, thinly sliced with the bone attached, alongside a simple dipping sauce that complemented the beef rather than masking it. After letting it cool slightly, I found it tender, savory, and very satisfying. Trying to eat at least pseudo healthy, I opted for sashimi instead of traditional sushi rolls and ordered Tuna, Salmon, Snapper, and Yellowtail. Everything tasted fresh and clean, exactly what you hope for when ordering raw fish. I also ordered the Tuna Tataki, which was nicely prepared and packed with flavor. One of the highlights of the evening was the Greenbrier Roll, made with spicy snapper and topped with spicy crab and avocado. The presentation was beautiful, and the combination of flavors and textures worked exceptionally well together. And finally, I finished the evening with an order of Fried Ice Cream... partly because it sounded good, and partly so I could brag to my granddaughter about it later. Overall, I had a genuinely enjoyable experience at Sakura Sushi. It's refreshing to see a restaurant improve in both quality and consistency, and based on this visit, I'm already looking forward to returning again.

We always get the same items... whether dining in or picking up. Dining in you get a better portion size. Not often is the order messed up. However... the last time we picked up food I was extremely disappointed. We tend to get a side of steak with our steak hibachi order as both our kids love the steak but not much else that comes with it. The $8-9 extra has always been worth it. This last time we ordered 2 sides of steak. This is what we received for $18. I called and spoke to either the manager or owner and she said bring it back for a refund. Why would I bring back my kids food? They were hungry. So I was supposed to bring it back for a refund then order food from them elsewhere? I was not looking for a refund... I wanted more meat... we had never have been gypped before. Not in the past 8 years eating here. We won't order that again and probably won't go back as that's the only dish my children will eat.

So I went back for their sushi as it felt unfair to rate them on ramen when their specialty was sushi. There are very few sushi places actually owned and run by Japanese outside of big cities, people rave about this place, and I'm all for supporting them. I did order the ramen again hoping it changed. It was ok, but I resigned it is not the place for ramen. However, I will say their sushi and other appetizers are great, no lie. But my recent visit left a bad taste despite their great food. When we arrived, about 6pm, the waitress told me and my teenage daughter, "only the bar was available". There were 2 4-person tables that could be separated for a table for 2. And I noticed 2 couples already there sitting at 4 person tables. So I asked the waitress why are they seated at the tables? She said they arrived earlier and now they need to keep the tables open Ok, I get that, even though they only opened an hour ago. It's Saturday night, so I'll go with that. Well, shortly after putting in our order at the bar, I see them seat 2 people at one of the 4-person tables. And then shortly after that, they separated the other 4 seater into 2 tables and sat 2 more couples that arrived at each table. Now, I'm raising an eyebrow. I didn't say anything but before I left, I said to the waitress, I couldn't help but notice there were several couples seated at tables after us. She said oh, that couple knows the owner, referring to the first couple seated at a 4 person table (they didn't even separate the table). Ok I figured that when the owner gave a loud and enthusiastic good bye to them and the diner looked Japanese. I replied to the waitress, but then you all seated 2 more couples and pulled the table apart to accommodate them. She replied that the boss ordered them to separate the tables but he rarely does. I replied that we had arrived well before any of those 3 couples and were told we couldn't sit at the table. She just shrugged as if to say she was just following the boss' order. I left the usual 20% tip because I know the waitress didn't make the decision and she gave great service and the sushi was great. However, that said, the blatant preference of other customers felt insulting and left a super disappointing taste in my mouth. And no, they were not all Japanese. Just that one diner. The owner clearly picked and chose to not give us a table, for whatever biased reason. I could understand if I were alone or my daughter was 8, but she looks clearly like an adult. It just really sat wrong with me and left me upset enough that I question returning. It's very unfortunate that an otherwise great experience was marred by this blatant refusal to seat my daughter and I at a table, only to have salt rubbed into the wound by seating numerous couples that followed at a table, by separating the tables. They didn't even offer to seat us at the traditional tables, all of which were empty at the time we arrived. To me, the authentic Japanese sushi was not worth the insulting unexplained preference to seat other customers after us at a table. PS: the only sushi roll I didn't like was the real crab California roll. The real crab was grey and cold and tasted so fishy, I asked to make sure it was cooked real crab and not raw. (They said it was cooked). I guess I was expecting real Alaska crab white crab and it was not this at all.

But what sets this place apart are the low tables where you fit on padded floor cushions on wooden backs. They even provide slippers for you to dog on the platform that's lined with sisal mat. I wish it had more crunch to it than just the kimchi. Also the pork was slightly cold, they didn't warm up to temp with the broth.
