The food here was excellent. Small restaurant, but the service was great. If you are craving sushi or hibachi, you should definitely give this place a try.

Sushi lunch special. Such a tasty deal!

I have NO idea how I didn't know this was here, but now that I know, it's gonna be hard to keep me away! It's my new fave for a Japanese fix! My first visit with the hubs was last weekend. We started with the veggie tempura, a longtime fave of mine. The veggies were fresh, and the exterior was so light, crispy, and perfect. The hubs had one of the lunch bentos from the board out front of the store. He thought it was a great deal and enjoyed every bite. I went for the yakisoba because it's one of the foods I miss most from Japan, and it's hard to find at local restaurants (especially the good kind!). This yakisoba took me straight back to being a teenager in Yokosuka. It was SO good... AND I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day! We'll definitely be making plenty of visits to Tokyo from here on out!

We popped in to Tokyo for our kids celebratory last-day-of-school-you-did-it-lunch. This was our kids and I's second time there, my husband's first. Tokyo is a small establishment, tucked away between Andiamo and Harbor Jewelers. It is clean, neat and tidy and fairly new. Maybe one year? There are several tables, the sushi bar in the back and a TV on the wall. The same lady was there today who was there on our first visit and she is cheerful, engaging and super nice. - Parking - Center lot. Tokyo is located in the same center as Off The Hook and Butcher's Son. - Drinks - Our kids got the Shirley Temple. My youngest commented that it did not taste how it normally does. Then my oldest commented that they must not have put enough grenadine, but it was still good. - Noms - (based on 2 visits) Bento boxes - included in the meal is a bowl of miso soup, and the box includes: salad with house dressing (their dressing is heavier on the mayo side and less of the ginger); 2 fried gyozas (yummy); 2 shrimp tempuras (light and crispy; 4 pieces of California roll (small, but tasty); rice and the meat of choice. We've had chicken teriyaki (breast meat), salmon teriyaki (filet cut), shrimp teriyaki (these are what I would consider large shrimps, not your small popcorn shrimp kind), all delicious. I found the tempura dipping sauce to be a tad bit light/weak, but still good. Bento boxes are usually very generous portions and the way to go for a hearty meal. Spring rolls - these were hot and nicely fried. I thought the filling was alright though. Side of vegetables - stir fried vegetables that includes carrots, broccoli, zucchini & onions in large cuts. These are the same vegetables you would find with a main course of a teriyaki dish. This is also a hearty portion and good accompaniment to any meal lacking veggies. Tokyo Bad Boy roll - California roll topped with spicy tuna chunks (Tokyo Bad Girl is topped with salmon). Appreciate that it was chunks of tuna and not minced. Volcano roll - tilapia, crab meat and avocado, deep fried with 3 sauces. This was tasty also. What roll isn't good fried? Things to note: - Bento boxes are the way to go and you get the most bang for your buck - Look on the specials board. One of the specials was a choice of 2 rolls from a select number of rolls for only $16 (Volcano roll a la carte is $14 alone) Overall, the offerings are on par with neighboring sushi restaurant, but the food is made hot and fresh and what really elevates this place to a 5 star for me is the service! The lady is very attentive and just super sweet! Stay safe, Friends!

Excellent customer service. The food was delicious. The crab appetizer was golden and crispy went nicely with the dipping sauce. We tried the hibachi meal and the veggies were nicely seasoned. The price was reasonable.

If you haven't tried the Sushi Box at Tokyo then you are missing out! The Sushi box is delicious and my new addiction. You get the best , sashimi pieces, raw sushi, fresh, and crunchy sushi roll plus tuna over rice. The sushi was so yummy and I can't stop thinking about it! The sauce on the tuna and rice is perfect. This place is tucked next to 2 staple restaurants in the area, so parking gets tricky but there's spots in the back. Staff is fun and they love what they do! There's amazing crane statues and decor. I love their fish tank , it's so sweet. I love how clean and organized the place is. Almost forgot to mention the Gyoza - it is top notch! I could eat that Sushi Box for breakfast, lunch , and dinner. Go try it !

Inside. Well decorated and very clean.

My first time coming here to this recently opened restaurant in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake. I was in the mood for sushi, and wanted to try a new place, and Tokyo didn't disappoint. I ordered the Tokyo Bad Boy and Dynamite Rolls to go. Both were tasty and well presented, even after Car ride, and being bounced around a bit. They gave ample soy sauce and wasabi. They also have good chop sticks, not the cheapest ones that will splinter sometimes. I ordered at the restaurant as it was hard to find info on this place, and waited while my food was prepared. The hostess brought out some water while I waited, which was awesome, and unusual for people with to go orders. Some of the other dishes coming out for the in house diners looked and smelled amazing. I couldn't tell you what they were, but I'm sure I'll be back. Prices are reasonable for sushi, the staff was hospitable and welcoming. Parking was tight, as Great Bridge Market Place has more than a few restaurants in the complex.

UPDATE: I've been back twice with my 2nd dining experience ordering hibachi chicken with fried rice. That time we had an order of spring rolls which were very good. Hubby had chicken teriyaki again (he's a once he finds something good he'll eat it til the end of time guy) and loved it. I had chicken teriyaki take out with spring rolls. Y'all, you know how when you order TO it doesn't typically live up to the in dining experience both in quality and quantity? Well, my TO DID live up to an in dining experience. The packaging was just so darn neat that I spent the first 5 minutes exclaiming to myself that it was the neatest, fullest order of take out I've ever had. And, it was just as good as when hubby ordered it our first time eating there. I noticed on my last 2 visits that the word must have gotten out as there were a lot more diners than our first Saturday afternoon visit. This place is so special that when I arrived a few minutes early for my take out the owner apologized to me for the wait. Y'all, this is for sure a stop to add into your restaurant line up.

This was the best Japanese food I have ever had! Everything was so fresh and homemade! The staff were extremely nice. We ate at the restaurant and it was cozy.

Hubby and I came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. I've heard from friends that this was a place worth trying. They weren't very busy with only 2 booths taken. We were greeted immediately, then took a booth next to the window away from everyone else. Our server was very sweet but to be honest she seemed a bit frazzled and hurried. I don't know why, she was great. I ordered the steaks and scallop hibachi dinner. The soup and salad came within minutes. The soup was very flavorful. The salad was good. The ginger dressing was not the usual light brown color but was delicious none the less. My hibachi course was delicious! The steak was cooked perfect. The scallops were amazing. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. Hubby had two rolls that he liked very much. I can't wait to go back and try their sushi rolls.

Tokyo is the most welcoming and delicious sushi in Chesapeake. The owners are so willing to serve and make your visit enjoyable. They always go above and beyond for my family.

So I went back for their sushi as it felt unfair to rate them on ramen when their specialty was sushi. There are very few sushi places actually owned and run by Japanese outside of big cities, people rave about this place, and I'm all for supporting them. I did order the ramen again hoping it changed. It was ok, but I resigned it is not the place for ramen. However, I will say their sushi and other appetizers are great, no lie. But my recent visit left a bad taste despite their great food. When we arrived, about 6pm, the waitress told me and my teenage daughter, "only the bar was available". There were 2 4-person tables that could be separated for a table for 2. And I noticed 2 couples already there sitting at 4 person tables. So I asked the waitress why are they seated at the tables? She said they arrived earlier and now they need to keep the tables open Ok, I get that, even though they only opened an hour ago. It's Saturday night, so I'll go with that. Well, shortly after putting in our order at the bar, I see them seat 2 people at one of the 4-person tables. And then shortly after that, they separated the other 4 seater into 2 tables and sat 2 more couples that arrived at each table. Now, I'm raising an eyebrow. I didn't say anything but before I left, I said to the waitress, I couldn't help but notice there were several couples seated at tables after us. She said oh, that couple knows the owner, referring to the first couple seated at a 4 person table (they didn't even separate the table). Ok I figured that when the owner gave a loud and enthusiastic good bye to them and the diner looked Japanese. I replied to the waitress, but then you all seated 2 more couples and pulled the table apart to accommodate them. She replied that the boss ordered them to separate the tables but he rarely does. I replied that we had arrived well before any of those 3 couples and were told we couldn't sit at the table. She just shrugged as if to say she was just following the boss' order. I left the usual 20% tip because I know the waitress didn't make the decision and she gave great service and the sushi was great. However, that said, the blatant preference of other customers felt insulting and left a super disappointing taste in my mouth. And no, they were not all Japanese. Just that one diner. The owner clearly picked and chose to not give us a table, for whatever biased reason. I could understand if I were alone or my daughter was 8, but she looks clearly like an adult. It just really sat wrong with me and left me upset enough that I question returning. It's very unfortunate that an otherwise great experience was marred by this blatant refusal to seat my daughter and I at a table, only to have salt rubbed into the wound by seating numerous couples that followed at a table, by separating the tables. They didn't even offer to seat us at the traditional tables, all of which were empty at the time we arrived. To me, the authentic Japanese sushi was not worth the insulting unexplained preference to seat other customers after us at a table. PS: the only sushi roll I didn't like was the real crab California roll. The real crab was grey and cold and tasted so fishy, I asked to make sure it was cooked real crab and not raw. (They said it was cooked). I guess I was expecting real Alaska crab white crab and it was not this at all.

The hostess did not greet myself or my party as we entered and took a seat in the waiting area. It took about 8 min for all to arrive but a basic "welcome, let me know when you're ready to be seated" would have been nice. Atmosphere= 2 stars The decor is old and worn which I could overlook if it wasn't filthy. The bathroom was generally didn't and gross. Dirt, water, and maybe mildew on the sink counters. Carpeted Floors throughout the restaurant were unclean and sticky in places. 2 chairs at our hibachi table had food and liquid pooled on them. The restaurant was not busy and at no time during the visit did I see any employee clean. Food= 3+stars My party of 6 ordered a variety of hibachi including veggie, chicken, steak, shrimp, scallops and lobster. All the proteins were enjoyed. The veggies were decent. Appetizers were yummy and we enjoyed our sushi roll. The fried rice was overly salty/too much soy sauce for my preference but still edible. Yum-Yum sauce was weirdly over sweet. Overall, my guys enjoyed their food. I definitely wouldn't come for a special occasion but maybe it's ok for a random meal for guys in their 20's? Lol
