Tucked into a shopping center that has a gym and music studio, it's easy to miss, but absolutely worth seeking out. The sushi is consistently fresh, beautifully presented, and always delicious. Whether you're ordering classic rolls or one of the chef's specialties, everything comes out spot on. I love the ambiance. It's dimly lit, cozy, with cat decor. They have traditional Japanese-style seating tucked in the back that makes the dining experience feel unique and fun. The lunch specials are especially worth it, bento boxes and roll specials, generous portions, high quality, and an incredible value. It's easily one of the best lunch deals around. The service is always warm and welcoming, and walking through the doors brings a sense of nostalgia every time. It's rare for a place to stay this consistent over the years, but Inaka absolutely has. What a fun find in Virginia Beach! My friend who has a shellfish and ground nut allergy is able to eat here, which is always a plus! She just asked about certain items and told the staff about her allergies and the restaurant accommodated. I love sushi and ordered the Sushi Matsu. It's a little pricey at $31.95 but has 8 nigri. I just realized that the menu says 9, so the chef forgot one (photo is just 8) plus a tuna roll. Friend got the salmon teriyaki and ate every bite. **Review Update: 06/26/2024** This has become our new go-to spot, and we visit much more frequently now. The staff, from the back of the store to the front, is always amazing, courteous, and kind. Whether I'm getting sashimi, sushi, or one of their many rolls, everything has always been fresh and delicious! They have the best ginger dressing I've ever had at any sushi place! If you're new to sushi, they'll answer any questions and explain anything with patience and kindness. This will continue to be our weekly dinner spot! 3.5 Stars - Rounding down This is a decent spot for sushi and other Japanese cuisine. It is right across from TCC VA Beach, where I take my classes. The interior is very cute and the service was friendly and patient. My friend took me here, as it is his favorite spot for sushi. He is a regular here. The booth we were sat in was unique to me. I haven't dined at a sushi restaurant with traditional Japanese-style seating. It was very cool! The server knew my friend very well and his exact order. They don't serve coffee, but they always kindly put on a pot for him that is usually for themselves! My friend gets the Philly Roll and the Volcano Roll. He is very fond of the food here, like I mentioned. He begged me to come try the food here for a long while. I went with an order of Shrimp Tempura and a Twin Tower roll. Unfortunately, I wasn't dazzled by the shrimp. It did not have much flavor. It was also really greasy. The Twin Tower roll has tempura shrimp in it as well. With the rice and crab salad, it became just decent. The shrimp by itself, however, was pretty disappointing. On a happier note, my sashimi was really fresh and melted in my mouth. I loveee salmon sashimi, and it was a hit for me. The yellowtail was new for me, and it was just as good as the salmon. These cuts of fish were savory and delicious. Next time, I'll try something else... I was sad because I am usually a big fan of tempura shrimp. But maybe I need to mix things up, or stick with my sashimi. This has become one of my go-to spots for sushi especially since it is near my house. I feel like they have definitely improved since my last review in 2020. The service is great and fast. It's clean inside. I like that they still have the Japanese traditional like booths where you can sit cross-legs. I even DoorDash a meal and the quality of food was still consistently good. The sushi tastes fresh and they have some of their own unique sushi rolls. If you ever thought this place was bad, come try again. Actually 3.5 stars for me. When my niece first started eating sushi, this was the place we always went to, and this is still one of her favorites. We came during a weekday for lunch. It's been awhile since I've been here, but the place wasn't as busy as I remembered. Hubby and I tried Inaka for the first time last week. Very friendly and attentive customer service! The food was amazing!! The tea was good as well. Both the dumplings and sushi were made to order perfectly. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything. For seating, there are small tables and it looked like about 3 booths. When you sit in a booth, is very Japanese style with you taking your shoes off and sitting at the table. There is square type hole where your feet go. So if that's not your thing just ask for a table. On the way out the owner thanked us as well. Hubby and I finally went and had dinner at Inaka and had a great experience. Food was delicious as always, but the service was slow. They only had 1 waitress working on a busy night during winter break which wasn't the best idea. She was SUPER sweet and utterly fantastic. Our soups were on the house because of the wait...20 minutes from the time we sat until she came to our table. It's been a long time since I've been here and it looks like it hasn't changed too much in 8yrs. My friend and I came in around 6:30pm and it wasn't busy at all. They had a special last night that was buy 1 roll , get 1 half off so I took advantage of that and got a christmass tree roll and a classic shrimp tempura roll. My friend ordered a gyoza appetizer and a chicken katsu dinner bento box. She shared with me the gyoza, shrimp tempura, and the California roll that came with the bento box. The gyoza (fried or steamed pot sticker) tasted like most, nothing that really stood out about it but it was definitely yummy. My Christmas tree roll however was outstanding. It's a spicy tuna roll on the bottom, spicy tuna tataki layered in the middle and seaweed salad on top with a bit of roe to make the shape of a Christmas tree. I loved the presentation for this one! The shrimp tempura tasted good too, it's always a 'go to' roll for me and there's never really anything different about it. However, the server was constantly checking up on us...not trying to sound mean or anything but it was like every 2 min... I guess it was because we were the only ones there for a while. Update 2/6/21: Delivery during pandemic. Do not... Hear ye hear ye, do not order the calamari. It's 8.50 for literally a handful of calamari in a Styrofoam cup size container. Avoid at all costs. For $60 we just ordered enough food. Also if you want seaweed salad, if you order a couple rolls then it comes with a scoop of seaweed salad. Otherwise you pay 5.50 for a tiny scoop of seaweed salad. With that said, the portions are the biggest issue. A roll is 5 small pieces. Not 8 like usual. Sushimi or sushi are 2.50 per piece... Not 2 pieces. Otherwise it's delicious. Everything is amazing. It's just the gosh darn portions. But if you are tired of grocery store mediocre sushi and need sushi restaurant level of quality sushi, you will pay for it. Christmas roll, amazing. Salmon skin roll my wife says is good, not quite crunchy enough but very good. Yellowtail sushi has a decent size piece of fish, tastes amazing, but pricey for one piece. Overall quality is great but $60 for two people just barely left us full. Room for dessert at home. I think they need to remedy this to keep customers. We might do this once every 4 months. I've always enjoyed coming to Inaka. I've never had a server that was rude or unfriendly no matter how far in between my visits are with them. They know how to hire waitresses, that's for sure. They're always pretty quick and efficient with their rolls and kitchen dishes. Everything always tastes fresh and delicious. Presentation is always a plus as well. Like many sushi places, prices are comparable so no complaints there. They do open for lunch and then again at 4 for dinner, FYI. If you want the booth, you just remove your shoes before sticking your legs under the table for the tatami mats. They have special rolls pictured in frames but you can't really see them so I suggest you ask them what they are and they will bring you a paper menu listing what they are. The service was great! Very energetic server who knew the menu very well. And just so sweet and polite. I have eaten here many times before. So, I knew the food was going to be fresh and tasty. Tonight was a little meh though. It started off with the fried shrimp tempura being cooked in old oil and you could taste it. It wasn't light and flakey like Pablo breading, but more dense and oily tasting. The soup and salad were good. I loved the dressing for the salad. It hit my taste buds like a brick wall exploding. That ginger dressing is the best I've tasted in Va Bch. The regular sushi came and I was already full. I couldn't eat much. But I will say the portions were a decent size and they give you more pieces than what was listed on the menu. The tuna wasn't that fresh (my ex is a seafood distributor so I got a lesson or two in recognizing quality ) but the salmon tasted good and it hit the bullseye in my belly. I would recommend, but maybe ask if the oil has been changed out or filtered recently before getting anything fried off the menu. All in all, a good experience. read more

They all comes with miso soup, salad, California rolls, like 6 different tempuras, gyozas, and banana tempura. Plenty of food and some leftover for lunch tomorrow.
