We frequent this place. It is very good and if you dine in, in the evenings, you get free fried veggie egg roles and a free dessert. It is always clean and the service is great. We always get three roles and some gyoza, which are fantastic. They treat us well and we have been there several times and will go again. When I placed my order the wait for delivery was about 30-40 min but it came in about 20 which was great! The items came in organized Tupperware and the silverware was packaged very well. The people giving this place a 5 star don't know what good sushi is... 95% of the rolls all have "crab" in them, which is just imitation crab. This review is strictly from the food ordered from here through Door Dash during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hubby and I ordered from here on a Saturday early evening through Door Dash. I ordered 3 rolls: the dancing roll, the Hawaii roll and the Yankee roll. I also ordered a side of miso soup and an order of shumai. Now let me explain, my order was messed up, meaning instead of getting an order of shumai, I got an order of spring rolls. I understand how Door Dash works so I'm pretty sure it was not the restaurant's fault, I believe it to be a miscommunication on the end of Door Dash and their call center. Back to the food from YamaChen's...all the rolls were delicious! The miso soup was hot. Although I did not receive my shumai and had springs rolls instead, the spring rolls were amazing!! I would definitely order it again in the future! In the special instructions, I asked for an extra side of spicy mayo and an extra side of shumai sauce. I was a little taken back when they charged me $1.85 for this... since it was not extra. It was the only one in the order. The food was good. I probably will not be going back though. read more

This place reminds me of old times. I remember eating in Japan and Okinawa and places that looked just like this. The fake bamboo wall separators with the big orange takoyaki lanterns hanging overhead. Workers wearing those Japanese sushi robes And seats in front of the display case to watch the sushi chef make your creations. I was greeted and shown a seat right. My server Alan promptly took my drink order and I also got a side of shumai. I didn't care how it was cooked so Alan picked. He got fried for me. In fact, I got the combo meal and Alan and the chef chose my sushi rolls for me. Everything on the menu looked too good for me to decide. The fried shumai came out and I just ate it up so quickly. Crunchy wrapper with the beautiful color and squishy shrimp inside. That's way it should always be cooked. And I like that fact they drained it very well unlike Osaka ramen. I know you read that review. I received complimentary edamame beans and the salad for my combo. I haven't had edamame since I left Hawaii so that was a pleasant surprise. The salad looked nothing special and if there was dressing it tasted just like the lettuce. So failure for the salad. You would think with that big "F", no way would these guys get a decent rating. Well they didn't. They get a fantastic rating. Two big "A"s with ++. My entree looked beautiful, just like the crispy garlic and tuna roll from Surf. No need to read that review, the pic in my profile. To create this work of art took the Earthquake roll and the Hawaii roll (destiny I guess). Both rolls were large unlike IKKO 2 Japanese steakhouse. I know you read that too. I didn't taste the spiciness of earthquake but that salmon just melted in my mouth. And the Hawaii just plain ONO. Come on can you really go wrong with crab meat and shrimp tempura? Then add more flavor with avocado?!?!? And the sauce or drizzle they put on was light and sweet. Very good. With the check, came a complementary ice cream dessert. Red beans would have been a great topping but hey it's free so I'm not picky. Well too picky. Overall A++ aka five stars. Service way beyond helpful. Food way beyond delicious. Decor way beyond nothing special but cool looking. Lastly yelp checkin includes a discount. SCORE!!! This place is amazing! We just moved to the area and found our sushi spot! I am vegan and love that they have a tofu roll. My husband loves all their seafood ones, especially the octopus one. I also love that they add edamame to the sushi containers. If I had to nitpick, I didn't like their miso soup it lacked flavor. But their sushi rolls are so big that it doesn't make a difference. They redecorated the place and it is so inviting, the attention to detail is superb, and so much to look at. The food is so fresh and good. This place gets a solid "it's okay". The three things I would say regarding the food is firstly, sushi should NEVER be served on warm rice. Any Japanese person would tell you the same thing. The rice should be cold, not room temperature. Second, the miso soup needs improvement. I've never had miso soup that genuinely tasted bad anywhere other than here. Third, not everyone likes the creamy mayonnaise based sauces drizzled all over their food. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and a spicy yellowtail roll and both were covered in sauce to the point where it was hard to taste the fish. Next, I'll talk about the restaurant itself because it's a genuinely beautiful place with a cool atmosphere. They did a great job remodeling it and the bathrooms were clean. Customers are spaced out appropriately, keeping everyone safe while they dine. Our server was very polite and attentive. Sadly, you go to a restaurant to eat, and the food was the worst part of the experience. It's not bad, but it's not great either. It's pretty okay. Cold rice, a better miso soup and less sauce would improve it marginally in my opinion. As far as prices go, this place has the potential to be expensive if you order off of the "special roll" section of the menu; however, you get much more bang for your buck going with the regular rolls. My plate had three and each one was less than six dollars; however, neither the spicy tuna roll or the spicy yellowtail were traditional Japanese sushi rolls. They tasted very Americanized, which may be appealing to some, but not to me. I prefer my sushi with more fish and less mayonnaise. read more

The place also has their own merchandise, which I would love to purchase on my next visit. I wasn't too fond of the miso soup. However I did love their spicy California roll, black sugar milk tea, and pork ramen. Their presentation of their food is beautiful. We got complimentary appetizers and dessert. It was amazing. Usually when in House (and sometimes at takeouts) they include an extra roll and/or dessert on the house. Service has always been awesome and I'm so so lucky to have them near me!
