It has been my dream to get a sushi boat for as long as I can remember. Although what we ordered did not come on a boat, it was called the Titanic and it's close enough for me. This beautiful dish was a great choice for three hungry people. We were given three miso soups and two salads before the meal. I didn't catch the name of the rolls that we got, but the Titanic had a great assortment of sashimi, nigiri, and two rolls. I really loved the salmon. Getting sushi here was a real treat for me. The fish was great quality and so tasty. I think one of the fish we had was escolar and it was just so buttery I couldn't contain a smile from how delighted I was. Pick 3 from a list that includes more mains than sushi. Everything tasted fresh. Mine came in a traditional Bento box but my husband's came on a plate. My guess for the difference is that he ordered 3 sushi rolls and I did not. I had teriyaki as one of my 3. Had tempura as an appetizer and it was very fresh, too. Oh man, this is NOT good sushi guys. I can't believe this place calls themselves "sake sushi". The most important thing to sushi is rice. Rice needs to not be super wet/sticky and also you shouldn't have like a huge layer of rice to fish ratio. Their sushi is what I call rice cake sushi where there's SO much rice and it's super duper sticky. (The worst feeling in the world is when I have to chew the sushi so much bc it's so chewy) The sushi here is comparable to grocery sushi which is saying A LOT. I also tried the tempura and I am 100 percent sure their shrimp tempura is frozen shrimp tempura they bought somewhere (like Costco) and just fried. The tempura batter for the vegetable and the shrimp taste different and it's very obvious they do not make it themselves. Oh man, you know it's bad when even the fried food doesn't taste good... stay away. I think I ate not even half the food and left because it was so disgusting. I will never return read more

I tried Sake out for the first time the other day, and this may be the one Norfolk sushi spot which I may frequent. Their interior was pretty, the service was pretty good, I enjoyed their food and it seemed their fish was fresh. That's really all you can ask for with a sushi restaurant. First of all, keep in mind I was the only person in there so it's typically easy to provide good service. A party of two came in about 15-20 minutes later but the server was more than competent enough to take care of three people. Based on what I witnessed there were 3 employees working - a server, who was very pleasant; a line cook who was in the kitchen; and the sushi chef. I sat at the sushi bar and planned to order just a couple of rolls. Sake, though, offered a special which I decided to take advantage of - order 3 specialty rolls and receive a Volcano roll for free. Pretty good deal if you ask me, but keep in mind the specialty rolls vary in price (between $10-$15), and since sushi is usually expensive you can run up a hefty tab if you don't pay attention. My server was quick and attentive and always made sure to refill my hot tea. So no complaints from that perspective. The sushi chef worked quickly - once he heard the order he was cutting up fish, pulling out the seaweed wrap and prepping to roll everything up (one of the many advantages of sitting at the sushi bar). I waited maybe 10-15 minutes for my food to arrive, so another plus. Because their fish is fresh the rolls I had were delicious. The three rolls I ordered were California Dynamite (very pretty and a little spicy), Spicy Red Dragon (definitely a little spicy) and the Ginza roll. All four were fantastic and filled me up... another check. When I was ready to pay my server gave me my bill and she took care of my payment quickly. Overall a good experience - I just have to see what it's like when they're busy. For years I've been unimpressed with Norfolk sushi spots. This place is ok. Lunch is very busy and they can quickly serve a variety of their $8 bento lunch boxes. You get what you pay for. The staff is always rushed and can be brusque. I ordered the sunomono and the cucumber were old, not fresh, and not that tasty. The conch and the octopus were poorly cut, as the 2 pieces were still together on one of the ends. One of the steamed shrimp had half the tail still on it, when I picked it off there was a bunch of shrimp poo in there. The krab was fishy smelling and fishy tasting. The miso was not served that hot and tasted a bit watery. The bento box 1/2 tiger roll was ok, but the krab on top was again fishy and the shrimp tempura inside tasted off. Maybe dirty oil? My sushi was sloppy with too much, and loose, rice. The tuna roll was the best tasting of all items. The salad lettuce was very fresh, the dressing ruined it, it was watery. read more
