Been here 3 times for teppanyaki with friends... could care less about it. Rather just eat sushi. I ask for rare for my filet mignon, and the cook always cooks out medium or well done..... damn it's not that hard to cook a steak rare. By the time I'm getting it, it's not even good no more. 1 star for the food it was not good. Was excited to try the this place because I've never been to the original location. Ordered the hot and spicy chicken which was slathered with a "spicy" sauce, but it was really just mayonnaise. We tried taking off some of the sauce, but couldn't finish it. Decor is cute and server was ok they still need some training they didn't know items on the menu, or the sushi rolls that they were dropping off at our table. When calling for a ToGo order, they NEVER answer the phone and they're online ordering is a disaster. I've tried ordering food ToGo food 5 times in the last 2 months with no luck with actually getting through or using the website which is beyond unprofessional. I prefer Japanese kitchen I know it's basically the same, my hubby prefers to get sushi at Sakura on weekdays for lunch. The first couple of visits were pretty good but delivery was horrible, lucky if you got half of your order with portions less than half of what you get inside the restaurant usually. Since reopening recently you can no longer order sushi to go or for pick up, odd you could before Covid & they were much busier then who knows. Feels like your getting bacon in your rice but trading for much smaller portions and it's a little bit more expensive than Japanese kitchen. A lot of rude dismissive staff really is what made my mind up the most to just go elsewhere. If it's just lunch sushi then it's fine but if it's tepan yaki or traditional dining I'll take JK, Tokyo or Kuni. read more

Went in for lunch at 1 pm. It was not busy at all and we got our dine in table in seconds. Our server was really nice and was great at her job! We got Beef sashimi, Chaya Lunch, Ashley Roll and baked mussels. Everything was good but I expected a little bit more on the Ashley Roll. However, I honestly think it's just based on sushi chef (whoever makes it). What I did actually love was that the baked mussels comes in 3 sliced per mussel. They sliced up the mussels so that it'll be easier to eat and less messy! Truly appreciated that! Well definitely come back again! read more

I'm pretty picky with my teppanyaki, and usually only go to Japanese Kitchen. I've been ordering from Sakura Chaya on doordash lately, and it's great every time. They've gotten my order correct every time and the food arrives hot. I've tried their fried rice, chicken, and vegetables and they were all great. I like their hot and spicy sauce as well, and when you order it for delivery they give you two separate containers of the hot & spicy and the teriyaki so that you can mix it to your liking. read more

Arrived at 730-745 for an 8pm dinner reservation, party of 13. Got sat around 9pm. So an hour late, now if I was an hour late to my reservation bet I wouldn't get seated, maybe make a waiting list, but definitely not seated. We got offered some tempura veggies. It's now 945 and the cook barely showed up. So if I'm lucky I'll start eating some rice at 10pm (which is when they're suppose to close). No manager has come and talked to us, we just get the basic we're sorry from the waiters. Now waiting happens but 2hrs from reservation time to getting some ride is ridiculous. Service was great and we were seated right away on a Monday night. We decided to sit at the dine in tables this time, and not do teppanyaki. Our waitress was great and very attentive to us. The only reason why I give them 3 stars for this review is that they need to learn how to make Katsu Chicken. When I got it, it looked like chicken nuggets. Katsu Chicken is chicken breast cooked in panko bread flakes. They either need to learn how to make it or don't offer it on their menu. I wasn't even able to finish it because it didn't taste very good. I was very disappointed in that and the sauce it came with was also very gross. It was terayaki sauce mixed with ketchup. Katsu Chicken has its own Katsu sauce that is dark and a little bit sour. I was hoping they had this but they did not. If you go here, do not order the Katsu chicken. Horrible! Waiting area is an absolute joke. Ordering as a dine is is also horrible! The other location has half shrimp and filet mignon and you can't order 2 different items. The whole set up here is bad. Still to the one on first and ness! I don't know why this one has the same name it should definitely be a different name because it's making the business look very bad! I had to give a a star but if I can put a negative star I would. The food was actually really great just sad that they don't follow the same follow as the other business. Big fan of the original Sakura, and now this one too! I've been here several times with different groups of friends since the opening and we have had a great experiences each time. We often sit in the bar and or dining area because it's fast service and we love the sushi! The cocktails have been tasty, the sushi is always on point (Drunk Cousin and Love Potion are my favorites), and the seaweed salad is a must! The staff has been polite, attentive, and memorable. Tammy, Cece, and Raul have left great impressions and have provided great service along with other staff members. I adore the interior design work and color changing bar. Very interested to check out the patio area once finished! Sakura is definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant in the valley. I love supporting great local businesses! read more

Absolutely the worst teppanyaki I've ever had in my life! My family and I came here to celebrate my 39th birthday and i was very much looking forward to teppanyaki. the food had no flavor the chef did not put on a show of any kind even though we had small children with us. I ordered a drink well before they even took our food order and did not receive my drink until after I was done eating. The original Sakura Chaya is much better than the one at the mall. Honestly I wanted to like this place because it's so close to us. I was already warned that the service wasn't good and and the food just ok. We had a large party and made reservations. It was super hot outside so we went inside and were told to wait for our table, ok no prob. We were then told to literally move out of the way and where we were all standing we couldn't stand there. I asked where she thought we should stand, being everywhere was occupied. The girl at the front desk sat a couple other parties that walked in with no reservation. Someone in my party inquired about it and she heard the girl call her crazy. They were so rude, especially for how much money we were getting ready to drop. The manager came up and reiterated what the front desk girl had said about not standing in the only place to stand and wait for our table! 9 of us came here for a birthday. We were seated close to our reservation time which was nice. Everyone enjoyed their food from the rice, chicken, steak etc. The sushi was excellent as was our cook. This used to be our go-to place for Japanese food in Clovis, but the last few visits have been disappointing. Last night was the worst. We never have teppanyaki, we always just have regular dining, so maybe the service and food at the teppan tables is better. There was only one waitress covering the whole floor, so service was really slow and service was spotty. Also, the AC seemed to be running. Maybe that keeps it comfortable in the teppan room, but when it's 40° outside it makes it really cold for regular dining. We ate with our coats on, as did a number of people around us. I ordered a tempura dinner with tekka don. The tempura arrived almost cold, which was easy to happen due to the restaurant being so cold, and I had to ask for the dipping sauce, which arrived a full five minutes later, meaning it was completely cold by the time I could eat it. The tekka don arrived as just plain sliced tuna on rice. No sauce, no marinade, no toppings. I actually sent it back when it first arrived because I thought the person who delivered it mistakenly brought me someone else's chirashi bowl. Our server brought it back with my husband's sashimi side and told me no, that was my dish. I asked for some sauce to accompany it and she told me she would get it but it would take a while. At the same time my husband asked for a dish to mix his wasabi and soy sauce, as his sashimi arrived without one. The server said she would try to find something, but couldn't promise it would be a soy sauce dish. It took ten more minutes for her to return with some sauce and a dish for my husband's wasabi. We were charged extra for the sauce. Finally the server asked about the ice cream dessert, then delivered it half melted. She was obviously covering the whole floor and running around, but that's a management problem, not my problem as a diner. We won't be back for a while, there are other places to try with better service. read more

What happened to customer service? I called in our order and was asked for a call back number and was told my order would be ready in about 45 minutes then I was told that because we were ordering take out we could not order the dinners only the ala cart since the dinner comes with ice cream. However I wasn't told that shrimp also doesn't come with it.... So we picked up our order after waiting forever to be acknowledged they said the bags in front of me were mine so I took the bags and the man at the register stopped me and asked for my name and phone number so I told him and he said ok yes that is yours.....Well.... I got home and started to empty the bag and noticed it wasn't my order so I called the restaurant and they asked us to bring it back and that my order was there waiting for pickup so when we arrived they once again took their time acknowledging us they ask for the bags back and promptly put them down on the pickup table ( I wonder what the health department would say about that) Then the smart mouth young lady proceeds to reprimand us for taking the wrong food!!! REALLY?? They rang up the bill almost $75.00 so how did they not know weather or not this was my order? One of the most RUDEST person I have encountered in a long time .... Now it has been way over 1 1/2 hours my food has been sitting ..... After the waitress finished telling us how this was all our fault we left .... Our $75.00 dinner was Cold! Soggy! The chicken was dry! The salad had no dressing on it just dry ass lettuce!! We eat out at least 3 times a week and have Never had such awful service and food...A Very poor example of dining in Clovis! read more

I called and made reservations for this restaurant a week prior so we would have no issues for my daughter's birthday. There was five of us in our party and we were escorted to our table about 15 minutes after our reservation time. We then we're serve drinks, soup, and the salad then we proceeded to wait over an hour for our chef to arrive at our table. This place appear to be severely understaffed for cooks when our chef arrived I looked at him, and I said finally, and looked at my watch. He rudely responded " you don't appreciate me do you want me to leave?" he complained often throughout cooking for us that they've given him too many tables to cook for. Another chef walked up to him while he was cooking for us telling him he had another table after he was done with us. He appeared to be very irritated and told us they needed to have someone else help that other table you could tell he was very disgruntled and not happy, therefore our service was less than expected. I told him it was my daughters birthday to try and encourage him to do something special for her. I was hoping he would use the wooden sticks, and perform some type of a special drum beat. There were five of us and our meal was well over $200 and I was very disappointed with the chef. He did sing, happy birthday to her and tried saying during the cooking that he was going to "hook us up with more rice" needless to say this was not a great experience and we paid a lot of money to try to celebrate her birthday. This was on a Sunday afternoon at 1 PM so if you decide to go to this restaurant, you're taking a chance of getting a bad chef, who doesn't want to be there and doesn't want to create a pleasant experience for your dining dollars. Sad to say this place has really fallen off. I went recently to celebrate my nephew's birthday with teppanyaki. Everyone placed their orders and when it was my turn to order I asked if I could order sushi so I did. I ordered sushi in the past no problem while getting teppanyaki. 15 minutes later the lady came back and tells me I can't for whatever reason. Damn was really craving sushi too. So I had teppanyaki just like everyone else. I ordered my steak and calamari. Steak was perfect medium rare , unfortunately so was calamari. WTFudge???!!!And to make matters worse when we were leaving I noticed around 4 sushi chefs not even that busy. The rolls that people were eating looked good too. I don't plan on going back ever. Where's the 0 star option when you need it? I wanted some fried rice so I made the dreadful decision to order online. I place my order, pay online, & drive over in 100 degree weather to pick it up. I get inside and get awkward stares when I walk in. Then the woman behind the counter asked me to give her a second and I can see she's busy so I tell her to take her time. When she's ready I proceed tell her my name and that it was an online order. I say exactly what I ordered just to make sure it's correct before I leave, another woman confirms it. THEN an elderly woman (I'm assuming someone in management seeing as how she was dressed in regular-clothing as opposed to work attire) tells me "just so you know we don't sell sides of rice" rudely might I add. I was completely taken back seeing as how I've ordered this before more than once as well as many other people I know have. AND it's an option online therefore you DO IN FACT SELL IT. Also I was given no sauce for my rice so I paid to get some so that I don't choke on dry rice and die. Come to find out others have NOT paid for sauce before. I am absolutely APPALLED at the ill-mannered management. & To senior citizen who told me that you don't sell sides of rice I hope you fix your attitude and the way you deal with costumers. I have been here twice now since they recently opened! Love the new place. It's bright, clean, and inviting. I love that everything seems so clean compared to other local teppanyaki restaurants in the area. We ordered sushi with our teppanyaki. Sushi was amazing! Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. One of the worst experiences of my life. Air conditioner was obviously broken and they continued to seat us. Then after seating us in the banquet room and realizing it was twice as hot in there, they moved us to another table. (STILLL JUST AS HOT) we were sweating the whole time, but unfortunately couldn't eat our food because of how hot it was. Would have loved for a manager/owner to apologize for what had happened. We picked up take out. We placed our order by phone and they said 45 min. That would make our time to pick up the food by 7:45. We got there and the food was not ready but said it would be ready shortly. Every ten minutes they kept saying it would be out shortly. 30 min later (8:15)and still no order. My husband finally asked what the status is? Turns out it was just sitting there and no one thought to tell us or call our name. It was lukewarm by the time we ate it.
