One of my favorite places here in Old Town Clovis, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Check for daily specials and any suggestions from your server. I chose the BLTA (bacon lettuce tomato and avocado) it came with fries and two condiments (see picture) along with a very tasty iced tea I was set. Live music filled the air and pleasant conversation was a buzz, I appreciate the smaller restaurant because of this and it's a statement to small business staying alive especially after Covid. Tucked away in Old Town Clovis this cozy little place offers live music. I always order the Bang Bang Shrimp which is so good. Lightly battered shrimp in a spicy sauce over a colorful teriyaki slaw. This dish hits all the flavor notes from sweet to salty to spicy hot with the cool refreshing slaw. The only thing I might add is some peanuts. The ice tea is freshly brewed and although I don't partake, friends tell me the cocktails are very good. We came here on a Friday night, during their live music nights. The band sounded great, although made the place loud enough it was hard to hear any conversation. That was mostly ok since we didn't have to worry about our toddler making too much noise. However it did take a while before someone came to our table to take our order. By this time my husband went to the bar to order our drinks. One would think that if a family walks in with a potential ticking time bomb, aka toddler, you'd get them served as quickly as possible. Came here last week for the first time while traveling for work in the Fresno area. My only disappointment is I didn't take any pics. This is a really cool spot and I would for sure come back. Tucked away in downtown Clovis is this spot that is a bar/restaurant with a great outdoor patio that has great live country music on the night I was there. I ended up sitting at the bar and had excellent service. The bar area was a really cool set up of a rustic but classic bar. For food I had the salmon with wild rice. This was pretty good and the rice was nothing that special but the salmon was cooked perfectly medium rare. Additionally the starter salad was a really good sized portion and well dressed up with great fixings. The service from my bartender was 5 star all the way and would have me coming back just for the great service! This is a great hidden gem that I would definitely recommend that you could tell was a locals favorite. read more

I came here with my mom for dinner. Thankfully we got here pretty early. The restaurant is small, and filled up quickly. I ordered the Jambalaya Papa's style. It was a too oily for my taste. I also didn't think there was a ton of flavor. Our server was extremely nice. Unfortunately, at the end of our meal I think she forgot about us because she never gave us our check. We had to flag her down, and ask for it. She apologized for her error. Our interaction with the server is not affecting my rating. I was just disappointed with the food. We recently visited Papa Place with a group of six to celebrate my husband's birthday. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several areas. Service was subpar--slow and inattentive. The food arrived cold, some dishes were overcooked, and a basic item like a hamburger was unavailable. Despite all this, our group remained patient and respectful. We didn't complain, send anything back, or make a scene. The real disappointment came at the end of the meal. After spending over $300, we brought out a small $5 birthday cake from Trader Joe's to mark the occasion, only to be told we were not allowed to serve it because the restaurant offers its own desserts. While we understand some establishments have policies, this could have been communicated more clearly and handled with more care. We asked to speak with the manager--not to argue, but simply to understand the policy--but the manager refused to come to the table, instead sending the message through our server. When we asked why we weren't informed earlier--especially when the server asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu--she said she didn't hear us mention the cake and only noticed once it was brought out and we asked for forks. What's most disappointing is that my family, as well as the guests in attendance, are passionate about supporting local businesses. We go out of our way to choose local over chains and truly want to see neighborhood spots thrive. Unfortunately, this situation left us feeling dismissed rather than valued. Moments like this matter--especially to locals who choose to spend their time and money supporting nearby establishments. Anyway it was the worse I couldn't eat it was like rubber I had to use a steak knife to cut it, it was so bad I decided to take it home where I decided to just throw it away. Papa's place is a cute restaurant in old town clovis. The decor has an old time feel, and they have live music some days. We started off with the fried green beans. They have a variety of homemade sauces like honey mustard, curry, ketchup, ranch, etc to go with it. Our waiter was nice and gave us some extra sauces to try. This was probably the tastiest part of our meal. For my entree, I got the pork belly. A large portion of it was fat, which is understandable as pork belly is a fatty cut. What I found strange was that some parts of the meat were really dry, and other parts were tender. I didn't like how the greens weren't trimmed. There were several hard fibrous kale bits in the salad which were inedible and a little distasteful. The chicken was also unremarkable. Overall, the food was just "okay" at Papa's place. read more

Tried Papa's Place for "real" last night. I say "for real" bemused my boyfriend and I sometimes enjoy the live music from a distance. We arrived just after 7pm and all outside patio tables were taken. We were seated inside. Resaurant/ bar is somewhat dark, which is okay, but the menu itself is black both nake it difficult to read. I typically don't have trouble reading restaurant menus. The restaurant gets pretty loud as more patrons come in the the flooring and high ceilings. If you're into that type of a setting for dinner, you will probably like it. Several times the waitress herself couldn't understand what my boyfriend was saying when he asked questions about the menu, because it was loud, which became frustrating. My boyfriend and I struggled to both find something on the menu to order. I finally settled on the chicken nachos (chicken thigh meat ... used for all menu items) and my boyfriend ordered the Pit Beef sandwich. The nachos were somewhat messy looking, but overall somewhat difficult to make out what was what because of the dim lighting. Overall, I liked that the chips were light and seasoned, not your typical corn chip used in nachos. However, many pieces were broken (looked like the bottom of a bag) and the cheese was melted on top of the chips directly with toppings on top making it difficult to pull the chips out to eat. My boyfriend said his sandwich was okay, but nothing too special. The fries look like theyare dried out due to their golden brown color and how thin the potatoes are sliced, but actually arent. I liked them. My boyfriend thought they were too salty. Again, I liked them. On a couple of occasions we asked our waitress forgot about us when we asked for straws and then for more napkins. With how messy the nachos were, I definitely needed the single napkin I was alotted. The restaurant/bar continued to get busier. This really seems to be a sought out location for the 55+ crowd as far as night life goes due to the live music and cocktails. These two things seem to be what keep Papa's Place going. As far as my experience, I dont believe its because of the food. We left following dinner and sat just outside the restaurant to continue to enjoy the live music which is always pretty good. read more

This was my 2nd time here, which each experience was different. The 2nd time, my boyfriend and I sat at the bar where we ordered an old fashion and classic margarita. The bartender said there known for the best old fashioned's in town. My boyfriend's an old fashion expert so he was excited. While I was waiting for my drink, I heard the bartender say "I guess I'm making a classic margarita". I thought to myself, is that a bad thing? I was a bit confused. Once my boyfriend came back to the bar we tried our drinks. The margarita was good, and as for the old fashioned, it tasted a bit watered down not strong like other ones we've had in the past. We then heard that the liquor they use for the old fashioned is made of 200 ingredientes (all the dark liquor bottles they have at the bar). This may be a reason why the drink tasted the way it did. We then got our check of $35 and it didn't state what each drink cost. To me, a classic margarita and old fashioned isn't going to cost $14-$16 each. The cost sometimes depends where you're at (restaurant/location wise) and if they have special ingredients on the menu, could be like a speciality/seasonal drink. Find the pathway just off of Pollasky Ave. (north of 5th street/Bullard Ave.) A sign on the left door reads Papa's Place, reminding you that you aren't too far off. A single door at the end of the hallway on the right will let you know you've found your way to Southern Comfort heaven. Daniel greeted us, seated us, and got us squared away with drinks. He also returned prepared to take our order but our first visit gave us the inclination that we better make the right choice amongst their delectable offerings. Looking around, we couldn't help but notice the narrow saloon style bar we had entered. The dark maroon walls offset by the near black deco reminds us that we aren't in Kansas anymore. Or Fresno for that matter. The sites and sounds of Clovis' storied past speaks through the architecture of these walls. I half expect to see cowboys coming in, and are met in kind by Jim Jim and his old west swagger. A waitress came to take our order in Daniel's absence (sorry, we didn't get her name). I ordered the delicious Tempura battered Shrimp and beer battered fries. It sat on a raw power blend slaw that was exactly the way I liked it- healthy. We made room for the incoming performers and their equipment, only to realize it's not Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Instead we are treated to a live performance on a Tuesday by Kuzzin Mel featuringJohn Pemberton. Their singer, John, warmed up with a beautiful rendition of Blake Shelton's "Who are you when I'm not looking". He then came by our table and provided compliments for Papa's New Orleans shrimp that I was consuming with prejudice. I offered him some of mine, but the gentleman declined, forewarning me that he was gonna get his after the set. My wife ordered the Side salad for $6. It had chopped romaine, cucumbers, and tomatoes, and we had the power blend slaw put on the side (in case me wife doesn't fancy the lot of it.) They offered to sauté it with or without butter, which was our wonderful waitress reading the room! We opted for the latter, again, for healthy reasons. They also provided a wonderfully herbed flatbread. They provided a good amount of food for such a low price point and it tasted great with both the champagne vinaigrette and balsamic. Our experience was magical. Service was on point with keeping our waters filled and checking up on us often enough. The patrons were friendly with a smile and came in there for a good time without being too loud or interrupting others. The performance was underway and boots got to scootin'. We would have joined in on the dancing as well, but respectful to being indoors and omicron's prevalence meant we will leave the limited dance space to the buckaroos who deserved the floor. It has a full bar with seating, an outside patio, 10 or so tables inside and the same outside, and live music on the patio. The staff is friendly and the menu has more of a comfort food vibe. I tried the "Macball pork burger" with steak potatoes. It was very good. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other unique dishes on the menu. Papa's place is one of those local spots that is just easy and comfortable. You see the same staff working there on the daily which is fun because you can easily develop a relationship with the servers and bartender which makes it feel like a family! One of my friends described this place as his "Cheers" spot - the local bar where you can show up regularly and everyone knows your name! The drinks here are really good if you're interested in craft cocktails. The bartender is constantly making seasonal syrups and has a great knowledge of mixology so you can request pretty much anything (belive me, I've had him make some wild tiki drinks!) and he can make it happen, down to crushing his own ice just to make it special. The ambiance is unfortunately in need of updating but when the weather is nice it's best to sit on the patio and enjoy the live music and the quaint outside dining area. The food is on the heavier side and nothing is really gourmet, but it's great if you want comfort food. They also come out with weekly specials which are always fun to try. Overall I come here often for the sense of warmth that the staff bring as well as the great drinks, and it's nice that they have delicious pickle chips, mac n cheese, pit beef, and churro donuts as well read more

Searching Yelp I found this, saw the ratings, and wondered how I have missed it since I really enjoy Cajun food but didn't recognize this name at all. We will definitely be coming back just to stop in for those because they were sooo good! They were tempura fried and with an amazing cheese sauce on plate that really set these apart from anything else I've tried before. The jambalaya was delicious - different from others I'm used to but very good! The Cajun chicken thighs were tempura fried, juicy, and a good healthy sized portion. Great service! The food was by no means Cajun, nor well done in its execution. Their jambalaya was a declaration of war upon anyone who's had it before. The menu is unsure of what type of cuisine it's supposed to be, so it went with "too many". As for ambiance, the interior decor looks to have been done by opposing designers, half: well thought out and hip, the other half: corny and phoned-in. Mismatched lighting temperatures says a lot about the eye for detail, and that's is an easy and affordable fix. If they could extend the ambiance of the bar to the rest of the place, it would be a good move. Redoing the menu would be next, don't be afraid to look for outside help! I was so bummed out that I missed the yelp event in Madera where I work but due to unexpected overtime in Fresno I missed it :( anywho my dude knows I love going to yelp events and decided to take me to Papa's Place on a Tuesday night for a lovely evening celebrating my birthday week. We arrived around 8pm and it was dead empty as you can tell in the pictures were were the only ones there for a while until a couple came in as well. I teased my dude that he didn't have to rent out the whole restaurant for me haha Anywho, we are so chatty that it took us awhile to order our drinks and I know that annoys waiters and waitresses. Our waitress was kind and patient. There was not much for her and the bartender to do so they were chatting it up. I have previously tried their Mac and Cheese during a Clovis food event which was so bomb. The drinks looked appetizing as well. We ordered the Mac and Cheese balls which was so delicious and tasty. My mouth is still watering thinking about it! The best restaurant Mac and Cheese I've tasted in my life! So creamy and delicious. Our drinks were tasty and yummy. The pork Mac and Cheese burger was bomb! The chicken nachos were underwhelming nothing spectacular very bland. This is definitely a romantic spot to take a date, or birthday celebration or any celebration. The inside is very pretty and they have vintage couches that are meant for a queen or princess. Overall my dude and I had a very great experience here. I would love to come back and get more of the mac & cheese which I think is their emphasis on the restaurant because almost everything at mac & cheese.
