I was so bummed out that I missed the yelp event in Madera where I work but due to unexpected overtime in Fresno I missed it :( anywho my dude knows I love going to yelp events and decided to take me to Papa's Place on a Tuesday night for a lovely evening celebrating my birthday week. We arrived around 8pm and it was dead empty as you can tell in the pictures were were the only ones there for a while until a couple came in as well. I teased my dude that he didn't have to rent out the whole restaurant for me haha Anywho, we are so chatty that it took us awhile to order our drinks and I know that annoys waiters and waitresses. Our waitress was kind and patient. There was not much for her and the bartender to do so they were chatting it up. I have previously tried their Mac and Cheese during a Clovis food event which was so bomb. The drinks looked appetizing as well. We ordered the Mac and Cheese balls which was so delicious and tasty. My mouth is still watering thinking about it! The best restaurant Mac and Cheese I've tasted in my life! So creamy and delicious. Our drinks were tasty and yummy. The pork Mac and Cheese burger was bomb! The chicken nachos were underwhelming nothing spectacular very bland. This is definitely a romantic spot to take a date, or birthday celebration or any celebration. The inside is very pretty and they have vintage couches that are meant for a queen or princess. Overall my dude and I had a very great experience here. I would love to come back and get more of the mac & cheese which I think is their emphasis on the restaurant because almost everything at mac & cheese. If you have not had Papa's Place then it is definitely worthwhile to come down to old town Clovis and give it a try. read more

Go for the drinks, atmosphere and music but eat elsewhere. Tonight was my 2nd time there over the past few months and we have been disappointed in the food both times. From paying $15 for 8 pretzel bites to paying even more for an appetizer plate of chicken nachos with more lettuce and cumin than anything else - they can do much better. The chicken was dry, cheese not melted and there was 1 slice of avocado on the whole plate. Won't be ordering food here again. read more

Vibes are very old town Clovis tucked away within a corridor of small shops. Food was delicious I love fried pickles and this is one of like 5 places in Fresno area that has them. Services was great. Drinks were lovely I had them make me a special egg white sour drink. read more

This establishment has poor customer service and do not cater to individuals with disabilities. After shopping at the local farmers market I stopped by Papas for a drink to numb my pain and listen to excellent music. Bartender seemed friendly, but off-standish when I ordered a delicious local brew. After tipping the band, I decided to lean against a rail when I noticed a table unoccupied. I sat down to rest my body when a waitress came and rudely told me I can't sit there. I explained I was disabled and needed to rest a minute and would be happy to move if a party comes to sit. She, once again, rudely told me she didn't care and I needed to move. So I got up and leaned against the rail. After about 5 minutes I really needed to sit down to rest my body. The same young lady came back with an annoyed look on her face and rudely reminded me I am not allowed to sit there. Fortunately, there was a kind young lady near by that offered me an empty seat at her table. Another waitress came and explained to me what was going on. When I stood up to speak in a quiet respectful tone instead of yelling over the music, she immediately said I was intimidating because I got in her face. The bar tender then came out and verbally threatened me for disrespecting his staff. When I decided to leave I paid my tab and respectfully tried to apologize and tell him I did not disrespect his staff. He began making a scene in front of patrons hurling expletives demanding I leave before he calls the police, embarrassing me even more because I was disabled and needed a break. I admit I am ugly, but my looks and disability do not sum up the person they treated poorly. I am a born and raised Clovis native just trying to visit my hometown and I was discriminated against at this establishment. read more

Papa's Place was alright. The wife and I piped in for dinner tonight. I was a little out off because it's a small place and they had live music and it was a little loud and the band wasn't that great lol. We started out with the fried green beans which were ok, I had the pork belly and it was just ok to, the wife had the cob salad and she enjoyed it. Such a cool staff in a great location. Cool old building with some outdoor seating and live music. But not loud music. Thankfully. Tried the fried pickles that were outstanding. The fish and chips were good but enjoyed the chips more that were seasoned perfectly. The fish was a beer batter but It was missing something. My husband and I had an Old Town Clovis gift card to spend, and decided to try Papas Place again. The last time we visited, it was 5 Mo ago, and they hadn't been open long. This time, the food was on point, but the service was still lackluster. We were seated instantly since we chose to sit outside, but it took about 45 minutes for our entrees to get ordered. Want to give a BiG shout out to Server Michelle & the Bartender for their attentiveness on a unexpected BUSY night. A couple friends & I have been planning on going Thursday 6/29/23 to see Two Man Crew perform (entertainment was great!) saw their advertisement on FB early in the month. Original plan was we were going to meet at the restaurant @ 6:00. One friend said that's too early, make it 6:30 OK. One gal did arrive around 6:15 - place was packed out, going to be about 15 minute wait. Other friend & I arrived within couple minutes. No one is leaving the restaurant, our 15 minute wait is now 45 minutes +. After going back & fourth with Michelle we opted to order a drink from the bartender behind the bar & we grabbed a table on the patio. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't expecting such a turn out & were short on staff. So no one to take & or prepare food for us. Personally I need to eat, taking a lot of meds. Hadn't eaten earlier thinking we were going to have a nice dinner. Michelle did finally take order for Pupu's. In the meantime one friend phone ordered a meal for us from a nearby restaurant. Friend had mentioned to Michelle our plan for food, she understood. We didn't want to leave because we were enjoying Two Man Crew. Thank you Michelle, Bartender & Two Man Crew - fun night. I go here strictly to hear the music and have a nice drink from their wonderful Mixologist -- he has introduced me to some mighty fine custom drinks that I cannot begin to explain. He is a true artisan! As for the food -- nope! I cannot eat spicy fried stuff which is the basis for this menu. Even the desserts I have tried to order on a Sat night always seem to be out. Not sure what's going on but the summers are sort of whatever. The music during the year is great, sort of hit and miss once the heat starts and everyone leaves the area for the summer. I prefer to hear dance music every weekend, but we have only been able to dance one time. This last weekend, as with others, the music is there, nice to hear, but either no dance space or not music for dancing. The other thing is, you must have a table here. The lady was awful in the beginning. You could tell she was under pressure. Didnt really get why. Made me feel like she was annoyed that I showed up. She was the morning-early afternoon waitress. There were only 2 other peeps that she was handling outside. The bar is really nice. Pretty calm place. Nice music playing. Clean and well taken care of. Ordered the chicken Cobb salad to go. No bacon. Dressing and blue cheese crumbles on the side. Luckily the waitress did seem a bit nicer as I checked out, but she had stern responses that weren't very nice. Everything was put together good. The order was made pretty quickly. I was happy to get out of there. Very disappointed in this place! The chicken didn't look fresh. Really greasy too. There wasnt a lot of it either for how much you pay for it. The salad didn't look good either! Nothing like the picture from on here that I thought I was getting. The hard boiled eggs weren't fresh at all. The lettuce was not fresh either. The bread it came with was super dry and hard too. The blue cheese crumbles, avocado and tomatoes did taste fresh and good. That was a plus. It is pricey and definitely not worth it! Told them we would take first available.I saw a empty table outside.. there was a table of 6 lady's sitting and 2 men who were standing next to this empty table of two. I watched as no one sat there for 25 min then two men who walked in and got seated there. I don't believe that had reservations. 20 min later I see the reservation desk lady move them to a bigger table. Gosh, I just love this place! The food is great and great for the price too! Can't get enough of their thin steak fries! My husband and I are going to keep coming back until we've tried everything on their menu. The atmosphere is wonderful and I love that sir fry kale slaw. Absolutely delicious! My wife and I had been wanting to try this place out for some time now. We finally did, and sadly it did not live up to expectations. Service was fine, and staff was friendly enough. The crowd was mostly over 50, but lively - lots of regulars. Prices were average maybe a little above-average. Bar was small, but had a good selection of liquor and room for a band. Food and drinks were disappointing. Cocktails were watery (too much ice), and served in wrong glassware. Food was kinda bland and seemed like simple recipes from home. Details matter. This place seemed more like a pub or dive bar, than a craft cocktail bar. Food and drink menu needs to be updated, or at least improved with a few seasonal drink/food choices. read more

Stumbled upon this place randomly and I'm glad I did. I tried the pork belly sandwich and it was amazing. I had my belly grilled and it was so good. They serve it with this type of gravy that just elevated the flavor. My sandwich was accompanied with the chicken chili. The chili came with tomatillo sauce. It was ok, but it could've used some diced onions or something on top just to give it some texture. I also drank the boozy hot chocolate and it was delicious! My son ordered the fish and chips. It was a huge portion and he thoroughly enjoyed them. All in all it was a great eating experience and I'm certain I'll be back in the near future read more

Everyone says clovis rolls up the sidewalks at night. This is a great place to eat till 10 o clock at night with a full (stocked nicely btw) bar. If you did not know its housed in the former house of juju. So dont get confused on the type of food thinking its the same with a new name So upon walking in took a free spot at the bar and ordered a tasty local ipa from house of pendragon. The menu has so many options i left it to my wonderful waitress. I said if i had to have the most amazing thing i will remember what should i get? She did not disappoint. I had the seared pork belly with a bacon and white cheese mac. That pork belly fell apart with a fork. Knife not needed. And the smoke from the bacon added a great flavor to the super cheesy mac. With room left over i i had some of the sweet potato waffle fries. To me these were totally a dessert. The honey and cinnamon were a perfect amount of sweet with a dusting of cayenne pepper to make it nice. Those were real tasty. Highly recommend. Service was top notch and the food was quick. Loved the hospitality. Great service. The owner loved this location so they opened a different New Orleans feel concept( jazz and Cajun food). His wifes restaurant is house of juju. They also own a local coffee shop in clovis called on the edge. we were greated by the owner papa and he explained his concept to us. He was very nice. I'm a really good cook so it's hard for me to eat out these days and appreciate the flavors, but I have dined here twice now in less than 2 weeks! That should tell you something! I had returned to Papa's Place to try some of the grilled options that they have to offer. In my last review I stated that majority of the items of the menu items are fried. Today I was very please to the grilled options that were presented. Papa's Place continues to impress with a 5-star rating. My mom enjoyed the taco special with fish. I had the chicken thighs grilled and they were delicious. The chicken lay on a bed of slaw and they were juicy , flavorful , and perfectly cooked. Although I can understand the concept of adding something fresh to the plate, the slaw was not my favorite. It is just a little strange and hard to eat without having most of it fall off the plate. By far the star of the night was the Mac and Cheese. Mac and Cheese is one of my favorite foods to eat that I can not live without. Papa's bacon mac and cheese is so cheesy , gooooooey, and a perfect staple of comfort food. It is highly recommended that if you love Mac and Cheese as much as I do, get a bowl and not a cup even if it means taking some home. I like that I can have grilled meat options at Papa's Place. There is a grill fish option that is the cod used for the fish and chips. I didn't try it this time but it is certainly on my list of things to try next. My last review highlighted this place as somewhere to get a drink, but it is also a great place to get some good food from fried to grilled. The price is reasonable and the food is some of the best comfort food in Clovis. Papa's Place deserve a 5-star rating and I hope it continues to deliver great tasting food. read more

First time here. It is a hidden gem. Food was spectacular. I ordered the BBQ Mac-ball burger. Unbelievable. It was perfect. Pretzel style soft bun, juicy, tasty sauce and even a touch of Mac and cheese subtly mixed in. It's not my typical order but the cute waitress said I had to try it. She was spot on. It is in the same vein of house of juju with a homestyle twist. I will order it again. House salad was also delicious. A young man named Peter Emerson was playing guitar and singing. Great atmosphere. Small little place and great beer. This place is great for a Date, a family, or even just a quick guilty pleasure.
