Ok first off I'm just gonna say I didn't come here based on past reviews, I actually went off the word of a friend about the $1 sushi and sake shots. I did check out the reviews but to be quite honest this place is drastically underrated!! If you don't believe me come taste for yourself. When it comes to sushi a lot of factors come into play, freshness of the fish, the rice has to be cooked properly and of course it should be plated to appease the eyes. They have earned a big check in each box! I walked in to order take out for $1 sushi and had absolutely the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I've eaten here many times before so I was surprised. I put in my order and it took the worker 15 minutes to get it to the chefs then I wait outside because I was standing for so long and I notice that another 10 minutes had gone by (before I left outside I let them know where to find me) so I walk back in and ask about my food and they look confused but the girl goes to the back to check if my food is ready. So she brings back a bag and I'm super excited that my food is ready then she proceeds to say "wait" and goes to another table. At that point my blood was boiling it was over 30 minutes and I had already seen so many people come and go and get their food in a timely manner. I have been a customer at Sake Tumj for years, me and my friends LOVE coming here for $1 sushi night, tuesdays and and Thursday, which only starts at 5pm. We have always only just gone for dinner. Today I was there for lunch with a good friend, who has never been to this restaurant before, the restaurant had been open for an hour and there was nobody in the rat Durant eating but us. There were no customers in the place but us and the service was terrible. The woman who served us (who did not look like a regular waitress) was very rude and rushed with with us. We asked about a substitution for one of the items included in a lunch special, and she basically laughed in our face. It was rude. She only checked on us once. At the end of our meal, when she gave me my change, she gave me he wrong change, but at that point we just decided to leave it at that and leave. I will not be going there for lunch again. The food was GREAT as always, I have never had a bad experience with the actual sushi they serve, it's always amazing, but the service was horrible. I suggest only going at dinner time. The sushi here is the best I've had in the area. There are so many options on the menu but my favorite roll so far is the Rock n Roll with eel and shrimp tempura. The drinks on the menu are very creative and tasty as well. One thing that makes this restaurant stand out in Binghamton is the decor and atmosphere, with the outdoor seating it has a New York City vibe which is rare in Binghamton. Definitely recommend the dollar sushi nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it's a great deal and allows you to try different sushi rolls every week. read more

My second visit and, unfortunately, not great. Brought a friend in from out of town - had the combo plate - $33 - It all basically tasted the same - the tuna, which I love, was very fishy (not fresh) - plus it only came with ONE soup OR salad so, for two people, we had to pay for an extra salad. Had the soft shell crab tempura for appetizer - $8 for four very small pieces was just too expensive. The martinis aren't bad but, at $7 + a pop aren't cheap. The Pop-a-Roxxy martini was worth the $ (and the best part of my meal) - a delish cherry martini with the rim dipped in pop rocks. Had two pieces of white tuna sashimi - $3/piece. And for desert - the cheesecake eggroll - very very rich and was supposed to be served with vanilla gelato but I'm sure what we got was vanilla ice cream (I've had plenty of gelato and this was not gelato). I had sushi for the first time here and it seemed pretty good, I also had an entrée and it was delicious. Problem was it was 58 degrees in the dark basement we sat in, and we literally got into an argument with a table of girls that kept moving the space heater towards them away from everyone else. We all froze the entire night. It took us 30 minutes just to order, and the whole dinner took two and half hours for 6 people. The only source of heat in the place is space heaters apparently, I've never seen anything like it. They needed twice the amount. DO NOT COME HERE! This was by far the worst restaurant I have ever gone to. The service was SHIT. That just ruined the mediocre over-priced food. The first time I came was September 2011 and our party of ten didn't expect much due to the amount of people. It took forever to be seated but that can be expected. What was not expected was the 45 minute wait after we got seated where even when we asked nobody came and we just left without them saying a word to us or having made an effort to help. I went again this year and it still was a terrible experience. I arrived with a party of 7 and we were seated a few minutes afterwards, that was alright. We were then handed menus and given time to decide our orders. The waiter came with only 4 waters at first and said he would come back with the rest but that took a while. When he finally came back to take our orders he didn't know certain items on the menu. It took over an hour for all or our orders to arrive even though they were clearly visible from the sushi counter. People who arrived later were served before us.. The waiter also took forever to bring water, he just took his sweet time doing everything. The food portions were so small for their price and they weren't even that great. I got the Molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato which was yummy but the bottom of the cake was a bit burnt. When the check finally came, tip was 18%. They do not deserve 18%!!!!!!!!!!!! And when we went up to pay we were ignored by the other waiter and our waiter attended other customers and chores before finally taking our check. -__________________- Again, DO NOT COME HERE! read more

Everything about this restaurant is good except the sushi itself. It's extremely tasteless. I got the godzilla and salmon delight roll and everything about them is bland. They don't know to cook the rice so they just serve regular rice and didn't cook it with sugar and vinegar like other restaurants . Service isn't bad read more

I hate sushi but everybody from work was going so I had to go. They have tempura as an appetizer, so I got two tempura appetizers; one shrimp and one vegetables. They were good. My husband got steak. Avoid the steak at all costs. Tough, chewy. The picked ginger is really good. I could take home a quart of that stuff. The people I went with who like sushi really love this place. They said the "Lady Gaga" is good. The waiter said that they have sushi that doesn't have raw fish but I wasn't taking any chances. I've been there three times now (my co-workers love this place). Went to sake tumi on a wednesday with a party of 8. Had an awesome time, the sushi was solid and the food was served pretty well time-wise. The service was top-notch. James was on top of our orders and always a step ahead with cleaning off our table of used dishes, refilling waters and sake. Very friendly and awesome waiter. Allie was cool too she was nice and helpful if James was missing for a second and always friendly. 5/5 would recommend. My friends and I had a GREAT time. read more

Unsatisfied! I called in a takeout order while looking at the menu at 11:05 AM for 12:00 pm. It was a simple order of 2 sushi rolls and a prawn salad. I arrived to pick up my order at 12:05pm where I waited until someone finally acknowledged me, only to point to a male saying he deals with takeout orders but there isn't one ready. Finally I flag him down to ask about my order, he states they don't have this type of salad and the chef doesn't even know how to make it. If he had asked for my phone number during the initial order he could have contacted me to let me know. So I ask if they can replace it with another salad and he says it's going to be awhile since there are so many walk ins. Not appreciating the treatment and brush off thus far I say to just bring the 2 sushi rolls. While I'm waiting some more the mother of the owner is at the hostess station and I mention to her that they may want to update their menu if they aren't making certain items, she said she didn't know but they could make me a replacement salad at no problem and it would only be a couple of minutes, I was on my lunch break from work and already tipping the scale on the late side, I said fine. 25 minutes later I get handed a salad, with no apologies, no compensation for their screw up, just leaving the restaurant @ 12:44- 40 minutes later!! $37 for 2 sushi rolls and a salad to be treated like a bother. To top it all off the sushi tasted and smelled old and fell a part, the salad was disgusting! My first and last time there. They need to up their hospitality and update their menu. read more

For lunch, I ordered the spicy tuna sushi roll. Great flavor and great price. I also had a side of the Thai fried rice. Rice was very well cooked and seasoned. Quality of sushi has been good but the service is terrible. They are slow, even when empty. They messed up my to go order which I discovered after returning home. I drove all the way back to get the right meal and was offered nothing. I asked for the manager and he without any thought or sympathy said I am not offering anything but the right meal. He then tried to tell me the wrong meal I paid for was a lot cheaper. We took out the menu, which he obviously was not familiar with, and discovered there was a $1 dollar difference. I would recommend this sushi joint to anyone who appreciates good food and a good atmosphere. The sushi chef works very hard and diligently in executing an entire restaurant's sushi orders, responsible for al tables in house plus take out orders. I think the time he spends preparing authentic, tasty, and artistically presentable sushi every time is worth a little bit of a wait, as opposed to a bunch of young American guys who don't know what they're doing in a kitchen trying to speedily make a bunch of crap sushi. Also, I will say that I interacted with a couple different people of the wait staff and was pleasantly surprised. They are all down to earth individuals and do the best job they can to ensure a good experience and that your needs are met. A woman named Hanna, and gentlemen named Mercelle and James to name a few. I was always scared to try sushi beyond the typical California and Spicy Tuna Rolls until I went to Sake Tumi. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can help you figure out which rolls or even sashimi you might like based on your taste preferences. I don't know if I've ever had better business than my night at Sake Tumi. James, like everyone else has said, is one of the best waiters ever. He, and frankly everyone else there, was super attentive. My water glass was never empty for more than 5 seconds at a time. Great staff that actually seem to care about their jobs. Also greatly important was the food, which was pretty good, too. I got the pad thai from the kitchen and it was on point. I'll be trying the sushi next time I'm there, which I greatly look forward to! read more

it's nice to finally have somewhere to get sushi around binghamton besides kampai/fuji san... or heaven forbid, wegmann's. but this place is ridiculously over priced in my opinion. even sushi places in nyc are several dollars less per roll.. the fact that its owned by the same people as the rat also makes me like it less... but they do a good job of hiding that as the decor of this place is really nice. i also really liked the bathroom (yeah that is relevant). can't really assess the service as once i went in and was greeted by a lovely host who graciously told me they were about to close and then another time we had to deal with a completely inadequate waiter who absolutely had to be new or just suffering from a severe lack of customer service skills. the sushi itself is pretty good, i usually just get a cucumber roll, my friends who actually went with the fish seemed pretty content as well. i guess just go during lunch special to see if it's worth it before shelling out 22 bucks for sushi on main street... read more

Finally a sushi bar in Binghamton! My boyfriend and I have been here twice. Once we went with a larger group for a birthday and the food was good, though the service was kind of slow. We also just went this week on Tuesday night for $1 sushi and sake. On Tuesday the special is only supposed to go from 4-6pm but when we got there, the special menu said it would go from 5-11pm. Each week they pick specific types of rolls that you can get for $1. Keep in mind it's $1 for a piece, not for the whole roll. However, if you compare the prices to the regular menu, it's a good deal! Together we got spicy tuna (actually spicy!), volcano rolls, green roll (something with green peppers etc in it), Philadelphia rolls and something else....Either way, they were all really great. I ordered 6 pieces of three different rolls which came to $18. Definitely worth it considering it costs $8-10 to get the prepackaged sushi at Wegman's. We didn't have any sake this time, but we had cocktails and dessert the first time we were there. Both were good. Since we found out about the Tuesday night special, we plan on making this a regular stop. Also, Sake Tumi often has coupons in the Good Times section of the Press & Sun. read more

ok.. have any of you ever eaten sushi before?? or even asian food? my guess is no. i came here once and got terrible food poisoning. and it's not like i tried just the sushi or just the food. i sampled both. and another thing, where is the closest body of water to binghamton, new york? the chenango river? stick to fuji san. the waitresses may plant bugs in your salad and the owners may have awful screaming matches in front of patrons, but at least the spicy maki combo is to die for.. and you wont miss a night at the bars because you're throwing up all night from it. read more
