I stop at Squiggy's every time I'm in Binghamton. Here's why: With the closure of Merlin's a few years back, there is a dearth of LGBTQ spaces in the Southern Tier. I stumbled upon Squiggy's years after I had moved away from Binghamton, having come back and done a tour of the new downtown. Being far from home, and witnessing how much the Binghamton I had loved had changed, I was looking for a place where I could feel some sort of belonging. I found myself at Squiggy's. I've read other reviews on here that mention some nonsense about the bartender being unfriendly or unwelcoming or cranky. I have trouble giving credence to these stories. Jody remembers me when I come in, she asks about what I've been up to, she listens and shares. At my last visit, Jody held my hand as we told each other our stories of coming out. I have only ever visited Squiggy's alone, but I've never left without making friends. Patrons invite you to sit with them, Jody introduces you to the regulars, and you end up finding yourself at midnight hanging out with really interesting people you wouldn't have otherwise found yourself with. Business doesn't appear to be great-- I've yet to be there when it's "busy"-- but there is no other place in Binghamton where I would feel as safe and accepted as I do when I'm there. In a sociopolitical climate that is increasingly hostile towards the "other", Squiggy's sets itself apart as a place where the "others" belong. No pretense, no judgment, just a great place to be. Support this establishment. A need for belonging will always be there, but places where you can belong are few and far between.

Drinks on our last night in Binghamton. The G&Ts were tasty, really cheap, and came with a smile. Bing needs more places like this.

Jodi was very cool. Very dive of a bar. Very gay. Pool table and strong drinks. Will definitely return for good times.

Is Squiggy's bar gaY?

It's gay owned and operated I think it's the only gay bar left in Binghamton.

My husband and I stopped by Squiggy's for a drink on our last night in Binghamton after our visit to the LUMA art festival.

This looks like a bookstore from outside. I love the vibe when you walk in. It actually feels like a speakeasy. You have to open a secret door when you walk inside the lighting the decor is all phenomenal. We did have to have a reservation as the place is completely booked on a Friday night, even the bar was too capacity. We were seated right away as we had reservations, the nice part about the reservations as well as you could text them to get those reservations. We had dinner prior to our reservations, so we didn't get a chance to try the food although the menu that was in a folded binder was lit when it opened a very cool little feature. The drink menu could've been a little bit more extensive for their specialty drinks, however, they had what seemed like hundreds of liquor options for you to make your own or to choose something on the rocks. Our server Nate was excellent, he suggested and recommended different drinks for us, he also brought over a little cheesecake because it was Amanda's birthday this week. Just an outstanding location vibe service experience. All of that. We would highly recommend it and if we're back in Binghamton, we would definitely go. If I lived in Binghamton. This is the place I would bring all of my guests to. Would we go back, absolutely, so much so that we are hoping or would love to see this in our hometown

The vibe of this place is exactly what's needed in America. I wish there were more places like the Union Hotel. It looks so fun and funky, everything is clean and I'm being serious, it's clean! Fried cheese curds and fried pickles...if that's all we ordered we were already hooked! Then our wings came!!! Pry the sauces out of my hands, I had it on my face, up my arms, the wings were exactly what you beg for anywhere else!! The sweetest and most beautiful bartender was an absolute angel getting our drinks and food! Extremely conscientious and attentive during busy moments! We cannot wait to go back...it was a fantastic reminder of what we used to have local to us! 10/10 all the way around!
