Pretzels were excellent!! Super yummy beer cheese and the other sauce with horseradish just as yummy. My salmon was on potatoes and fennel with sauce on the bottom. My friends and I did our first tasting of 2026 with a corned beef Reuben from McGirks. Flavor was very good. General consensus by the group: Corned beef is thick sliced; might have preferred it a little thinner sliced but the flavor is very nice. A little light on the sauerkraut and 1000 Island dressing. I called the restaurant to complain as the fact that I was missing my pretzels, then only to see the receipt that says chill out on it simply because I wrote a few extra directions since they are constantly forgetting things that I am paying for. I got put on the phone with the manager and he proceeded to admit to writing chill out on my receipt himself and that I didn't need to write any extra directions that they can handle it even though they have constantly messed up my orders in the past and then also proceeded to tell me that his boss would have his back when I expressed the fact that I have been a pain customer who comes in at least twice a week and spends over $100 each time I order food, absolutely disgraceful I will never go back to this establishment again ... wish I could post the picture on here like I did on script advisor read more

Picked up our order to-go so I can't say much about the inside of the restaurant or the ambiance while dining in, but we got a Grilled Reuben and a Fish n Chips and both were great. The Reuben was no joke one of the top 3 I've ever had, and my teen son said the fried fish and fries were both very good. The lady who cashed me out at the bar acknowledged me right away and got me on my way fast as we were taking our food back to our hotel. read more

Call it "lupper" or "linner", it was going to be our final meal of the day, so we stopped at McGirk's a little after 2:00 PM. At that hour on a beautiful late summer day, we were surprised to be the only diners eating outside. A table for 3 and 3 diverse meals. We had a Jack Daniels burger, a Ruben sandwich, and an order of chicken tenders. The tenders are on the appetizer list, but there's a half dozen good sizes pieces. I had an order of French fries with them. The fries were so plentiful, we shared them. I ended up taking 2 tenders home. Note: I RARELY take food home from a restaurant. These are great tenders, people. The ladies ate every bite of their meals, so I can tell you they were equally delicious. Before we left, we ordered a couple of Guinness Irish Stew to go. I wasn't going to go to McGirks and not have that scrumptious delight! The waitstaff was delightful, and very attentive. I recommend McGirk's for lunch. Watch the golfers chase their balls around the course, enjoy a cocktail, and you'll have a notable experience. read more

As a person with celiacs I wish they had a stronger gluten free menu. I mean it's 2024 and gf is nothing new . However they have Best wings in town and a few other decent options . I think they could do better and be one of the top places to eat in the area if they stepped it up just a tiny bit. Def a place worth checking out though read more

This bar is a staple in the area, but I've never been in there before tonight. It's a decent place. Nothing really jumps out to distinguish this bar from any other bar in Anytown, USA. We were seated at a table, I ordered a beer and we dove into the menu. While the menu wasn't huge, it had some staple bar foods and some not so staple bar foods, such as Irish Egg Rolls and Shepherd's Pie. We ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer. I ordered a Wilbur-Burger and my wife ordered a pulled pork sandwich. One thing we were a bit put off by, is that the burgers/sandwiches come with nothing but the sandwich, not even chips. For the money, I would expect a handful of chips. Our pretzel bites came out, with a side of homemade mustard and cheese sauce. The mustard was banging!!! A little sweet, with a spicy kick. I disliked the cheese sauce, straight out of a large can, I suspect; my wife liked it fine. Our main courses arrived. My burger came with pulled pork, onion straws and of all things, a fried egg on top. It was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My only complaint was is that it could have used a condiment of some sort, but I was too cheap to pay the .50 cents for BBQ sauce. My wife enjoyed her pulled pork, it came with cole slaw on it, which she really liked. Overall, the food was really good and the beer was cheap! I would say, if you're in the area, give this place a shot. The food is well prepared and the beer is cheap. read more

The server was efficient and quick even though she had quite a few tables to cover. Both my wife and I had the Whiskey BQ burger. She chose the vegan version while I had the beef. The quantity and quality of their food has gone downhill over the last several months. Price's have not reduced in accordance to reduction in portions. I am specifically sleaking about the chicken pot pie's. They were very good, and a fair portion. Now they do not even fill the same tin the come in. And the wonderful friendly attitude of owner, has changed immensely, to a do not care attitude. I tried to place an order yesterday after staying away for many months because of the pot pie situation. They were doing curbside service prior. Yesterday I was told on the phone they were no longer doing curbside service. I replied it is still a pandemic going on, people with pre-existing conditions still have them, and older age people, therefore I would not be able to safely come inside to pick up food. That was fine with them, as they do not need the business during the pandemic. I have been a loyal customer to them for over 10 years, having dinner and dancing a couple of times each week. Had many good times there, enjoyed the food. But with beloved Tim gone, it is being run into the ground! He always made everyone feel at home, and treated them very well. All I can think is they are independently wealthy and do not need the money and therefore turn business away! read more

Service at the bar is usually pretty good. I love shepherds pie and I decided to get the last time & it was pretty bad that night. I couldn't even eat it. But the food is usually on point. Music is always good there. A nice neighborhood bar that is well known in the whole Binghamton area. I've never met the owner but I guess he's a good guy too. They always have special events and it's a fun place. Lots of parking is a bonus. McGirk's will be around for a long time. read more

We were driving north from Scranton, and we had driven all over looking for a late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon- 1/7/2020 - we almost gave up when this pub showed up on Yelp as nearby! We walked in, we instantly felt welcomed- I had the Reuben style taters; I only wish I had taken a picture because I can't stop thinking about that food! We found a great establishment, with a comfortable crowd, at 2:30 in the afternoon- and the service and food were wonderful!! We at at McGirk's Friday evening. Now, I've eaten there before - a couple of lunches, a couple of dinners. I've never been blown away and I've never rushed back. It's also fair to say, It's never been awful, so it's relatively safe. Friday evening was a little more disappointing than my previous visits however. We ordered wings and oddly, they came with the sauce on the side. They were crispy, which was good, but I still don't understand the sauce on the side. We ordered side salads... and here's my pet peeve with salads - I do NOT want to do the work for them. Like Mitch said, 'we know they have knives out there, why don't they use them!?' If you're bringing me a salad, for god's sake, please be sure it's ready to eat. I had pieces of lettuce the size of my plate. I ordered a burger - medium. The burger was overcooked and dry. Oddly, there was like a corner of it that was still medium... if the whole burger was less cooked, it might have been good, but I could barely tell from the small portion that wasn't. Mitch got fish and fries. He's still on the search for a Utica equivalent Fish and Fries. He said the fish was actually really good - so that was the best part of our meal. However, it was a pretty small portion of fish. Last complaint... there was an Irish singer. That's all ok... but, we sat as far from him as we could, hoping it would be like background music. Unfortunately, there was a speaker in close proximity to our table and as we looked around, we realized, there were speakers in close proximity to all of the tables. We asked if they could turn it down, but no dice. It was incredibly difficult to talk at all. We were literally shouting to each other and we could still barely hear. The meal took over 2 hours, which normally, we'd be fine with, we're slow eaters. But, with the agitating music and the fact that we were eating pub food, not high-class, it seemed a bit excessive. I'm sure if we have to, we'd still go back, but if we have other options, we'll probably take those or try something new first. Too bad, because the place is nice looking and their menu has appealing items on it. Total bill with 2 beers, 2 sodas, 1 appetizer, 2 salads, fish fry and burger and tip = $52. Not too bad price-wise, if only it was yummier. read more

I used to frequent this place with my ex gf once a month, getting drinks and eating food there. Driving a good distance to get there. The food can be hit or miss, but remember you are walking into a country bar, and when it's good it's very good. Homemade bread for burgers and sandwiches, and the Irish food is good too. I don't venture to far outside what I previously ordered as we have had food there that wasn't good. I give it four stars because it's out in the middle of nowhere, a small town with not much, and although it might not be consistent, more of my meals have encouraged this long drive for an out of the way meal and conversation with a loved one. There's no pretentious attitudes either, it's just a country bar serving people from the area probably for many many years. I hear locals talking about their lives, seeing them off work, or dressed up with a date. It's sort of nice to see this sort of thing while the rest of the world seems to sprawl and grow, defining itself by the cars they buy. One rushes towards the future, while this place is just in the present all the time. I guess I got a bit thoughtful at the end. I suppose seeing all my old places across this nation explode with traffic, strip malls, it's great to be in areas that haven't tried to catch up with the rest of the world. read more

Came here for a private party rental with catering. It was ok. Food was nothing to write home about and the staff was polite but not overly helpful. The banquet room was nice, but a little pricey. The first time I went to McGirk's people were leaving it and they said 'food is good but the service sucks' and I stand by their review. Food might be good (I've only had the hamburgers) but it is not worth the wait. And the wait. And the wait. We were there last week and there were less than a dozen customers at lunchtime and it took almost an HOUR to finally get our drinks and to finally get our order. Then the waitress NEVER came back to check on us. Of course she came by to drop off the check and by then it was too late to complain or get anything else. She didn't even ask if we wanted anything else or refill on drinks etc. And what was she doing that was so much more important??? Why she was chatting with co-workers & customers at the bar. Didn't even look our way once. I am in no hurry to go back. Much like the no hurry she was in to wait on us. read more

McGirk's has excellent wait staff and bartenders. Portions, including drinks, are generous. Plus, there is nothing I have ordered that was less than excellent. The owners and managers stop at the tables to ask about your meal. They provide appropriate and interesting entertainment in the dining room. Love McGirk's. My family and I went here without giving any notice, with a huge group of people for lunch. I admit, it wasn't very nice of us to just walk in with a huge party like that. However, the bartender and cook were the only 2 people working and they handled our party (separate checks-sorry!!!) like it was a walk in the park. The food was great too! I rarely feel the need to post a review, especially on my Sunday off, but the service was so horrific that I feel a need to warn others. The waitress, per receipt 1/26/19 at 6:48 cashier was Maggie not sure if it was her, young, attractive woman with long straight black hair. We were seating by the hostess promptly to a table large enough for 8 people. We only needed 6. We got drinks for our party of 6 promptly. Some friends of ours dropped in for drinks and sat with us. The waitress disappeared and did not come back for our order. After a lengthy time, she appeared again. When I asked to have our checks split she was very short and said we can't split checks on parties over 8. When the other four people that came in for drinks said they would order at the bar, she still refused to split the checks. Food came out fairly quick. Everyone was happy with their order except for the potato pancakes. They were mushy and cold inside. We had to help ourselves to napkins, did not receive any silverware or plates. She forgot to get water refills and she did not ask us once if we needed anything. We literally thought she forgot about us. It was a very lengthy time that we waited for her to return so we could get our check and order a takeout desert. We flagged another waitress down who was very apologetic and seemed like she was maybe going to compensate us with something. When we got the check no compensation for the worst service I have experienced in my 52 years of living. Just an 88.00 bill. Nothing free could ever make up for this horrendous experience. Waitress was seen at the bar, where we couldn't see her, chatting with a man. These are the kind of employees that can close a business. Just saying. Even the teenagers with me said that waitress was terrible. I will never spend another dime there. On a side note we left her a 15% tip which she didn't deserve. I left it out of self pride and didn't want to punish the hostess or the cooks who deserved the whole tip. We always leave 20% even with mediocre service. This was pathetic at best. read more

We were so disappointed with the wait staff during our recent visit. We went to celebrate a Birthday and were told, we don't sing Happy Birthday. After we got over that shock when it was time for dessert it took our waitress 15 minutes to get a dessert menu and another 15 minutes in finally bringing desert. We also expected a waitress in an Irish pub to have a personality. Maybe it was a bad day , but it might prevent us from returning. I've been there a few times. The atmosphere is very nice (live music) and the service was very good. The bartender was nice and very attentive. Each time I ordered food. The first time it was horrible. I figured maybe it was an off night or maybe I ordered something that they don't do well. I tried a few more times ordering different items. Each time it was awful. Very disappointed in the professionalism of this business. After our big group spent a lot of money on dinner and drinks outside, we ventured inside to enjoy the evening band. A couple of tables were empty by the band, thus we sat down to listen . A few minutes later, the waitress asked us to move because the owner was sitting there? No food,drinks, nor bodies were sitting there for quite some time. Totally confused we moved only to be told a bit later that the owner said to tell us we could sit there?? We asked why a reserved sign was not placed on the empty tables with no response. We no longer will patron this establishment. You do not bite the hand that feeds you. read more
