I giving MJ's 5 stars for reasons other than food- let me explain why. Located on the Susquehanna river, the location can't be beat on a beautiful spring day. We had a great table on the water. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, and the place was packed. The staff did a great job managing the work flow. Clearly an experienced group of people. We ordered the top item on the menu, the cheese steak sandwich, added some peppers. It was quite good. The fries here are and definitely get an order. The problem happened when I ordered the house burger- another top menu item. I asked for "medium rare", which should have a hot center but some pink left. What I got was well done- and dry as the desert. I had to drink a lot of water to wash it down. Normally-if this was a steak, I'd send it back. But- it was a burger and the kitchen was already jammed, so I choked it down- I was really hungry. I would not order the steak here- pretty sure a 6 ounce filet would end badly. Other dishes being served at other tables looked great. I would come back here. It's a great place. Thus- 5 stars. read more

I stopped by here for the first time a few months ago and had a really good experience. So I came back tonight and had another really good meal. I had the Southwest Chipotle Salad with a portobello on top. It was EXCELLENT! The dressing was fantastic and made every bite enjoyable. I sat at the bar and was served extremely well by Erin, who made a tasty Ranch Water. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean as well. We stopped on a whim as we traveled through Owego. The outside belies an absolutely charming interior with spacious outdoor seating. My husband had the luncheon special chicken and feta sandwich with fresh cut MJ fries sprinkled with feta and accompanied by mustard dipping sauce. I had the shrimp sopas with guacamole. Both were amazing! Ice tea was fresh and bottomless. Crème brûlée for dessert did not disappoint. Highly recommend this charming spot. read more

Drinks and food are always great, a small menu but its unique and never disappoints. Lobster crossaint is yummy, on the lighter side and could use a bit more lobster. The chorizo Benedict and creme Brulee waffles are new favs. Pictured is the "Unusual Strawberry" lightly peppery , not too sweet and reshreshing. I visited MJ's with my parents and we were all wowed by the food and atmosphere. It's kind of small but very cozy (it was a cold day so I really appreciated the fireplace by the door). We were there around the new year so they had football on the TV's at the bar. I got the plant sandwich (eggplant with ricotta, roasted peppers, and pesto). It was really messy but so delicious. I got a veggie skewer on the side instead of the default fries, and the skewer was also really good - the veggies were juicy and roasted perfectly. We got a slice of tiramisu cheesecake to share for dessert. I've had lots of cheesecake but I'm sure this was one of the best; the cheesecake was very creamy, the flavour was spot on, and the bittersweet cookie crust was different and good enough to eat on its own. My parents aren't really coffee fans but they loved this cheesecake anyway. Pretty good service. Our waitress was friendly and the wait times for food, while not exactly quick, were reasonable. We shared the saganaki between the four of us which was tasty. My husband had the Cuban sandwich, our friends both had the Sauté and I had the Every thing salad. All were excellent. Just a gem! We stopped through here and were so impressed by everything about this establishment. The food was great, quality ingredients and presentation for reasonable prices. We tried sandwiches from the "bigger plates" section, and both "The plant" and the Cuban were incredible, with fantastic options for sides ( the MJ's fries and heavenly hash can't be beat). The cocktails and the beer selection are tasty and creative, there's something for everyone. The patio space enhanced the entire experience. I love fresh French fried potatoes, but these had been cooked twice or in a frier that wasn't hot enough and were oozing oil! This was a very poor decision to make as a chef. Otherwise, the burger was average, but over-priced. For the dough, should not have been a frozen patty. What did I like? The waitress was pleasant and we enjoyed the patio overlooking the river. Anywhere with an open kitchen usually means they want their customers to see they are using high-quality ingredients and making everything from scratch in-house. That is very clearly the case here. I had the soup of the day, which was a pumpkin chowder. It's possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The atmosphere was cool and all but there wasn't enough on the menu. It felt like it was too millennial with all the food selections, there were no easy choices or fall back foods . Personally I'm a picky eater and it Deffinetly was NOT friendly to my kind, no nuggets, no tenders, nothing worth my time. Words cannot express my experience when Having lunch with a friend at MJ's in a OWego, New York we had the most amazing clam chowder I have had in a very, very long time. It was definitely not ordinary and my words cannot explain it however it was so good. YESSSSSSS!!!!! This is the place to eat in Owego. Visiting Owego, the options I was given for lunch were fast food. For Dinner, my team decided on MJ's. They had been. I had not. But it is absolutely apparent why they chose it. The smallish place was packed on a Monday at 6. We sat/stood at the bar until a table opened up. The menu is enough for everyone to be able to choose something, but not so extensive that it was overwhelming. I chose the Philly Cheesesteak. Holy moly. What a sandwich!!! The roll was overflowing with meat, cheese, and peppers. The meat was perfectly cooked. The cheese was (I think) a white American that was perfectly proportioned to the amount of meat. The meat was neither dry, nor swimming in cheese. This sandwich also came with MJ Fries, which had feta on them. But the real catch is the secret sauce that comes with them. It was, seemingly, a honey mustard, but with a slightly sour note, as if there was lemon or vinegar added. It was so amazing. I will definitely be eating here again when I am in town. Super happy to have found MJ's on our road trip. My family and I had such a hard time finding fresh food prepared well that MJ's was a delight to stubble across. We order the charcuterie plate, the special cheddar bacon beer soup and burgers. The charcuterie plate was jam packed with cheeses, meat, olives, smoked salmon and crackers! My only small suggestion was to add just a few more crackers. The cheddar bacon soup was delicious, however had bell peppers in it. I had to take the smallest of tastes then pass on it as i am allergic to peppers. The burgers! The burgers were perfectly cooked, juicy and amazing. Whatever butcher MJ's is using supply's them with some excellent beef, very flavorful. The burgers are served with fries with a bit of feta cheese and some sort of lemony sauce on the side. All in all well balanced, house made and fresh. With the beautiful view and a full bar, I can't see why you wouldn't stop here for a bite. Took us over an hour to get here, but was well worth the drive. Beautiful setting on the Susquehanna River. Saganaki flaming cheese app was just enough for the 4 of us to have a nice bite with our beverages. Tried the cocktail with almond & clove - unique & refreshing, just needed a bit more to make it worth the price. Everything salad was quite filling, and gyro was excellent. (Next time I'll order extra tzatziki.) Not the best place to visit when it's crowded - very loud inside - but the deck is an excellent option for conversation. Came to this restaurant with a friend on our way to Ithaca. Walking in the aesthetics are delightful/very cozy with a great view of the river. They have plenty of outdoor seating but it was raining so we decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender Karissa was very attentive as she came over the second we sat down. We both ordered one of the fall specialty drinks made with cider and Prosecco and they were delicious and extremely festive. I ended up ordering the lettuce cups and they were more filling than you'd think. The tzatziki sauce that came with it tasted homemade. My friend ordered the cheesesteak that looked incredible. We both got fall themed lattes to go before we paid and they were perfect for a chilly fall day. Visiting family in the area and was told to try it out. Got there and ordered fine, but waited 30 minutes after we ordered (ahi poke bowl and the tacos) and food was no where to be seen. Waitress only came once to refill water and not to check in or give any heads up that food would take that long to come out. We came to MJ's for a lunch without toddlers (thank you grandparents!). The patio out back was serene and perfect. The chopped salad was excellent and so fresh. Many homemade dressings that were tasty. I had a strawberry margarita type drink with black peppercorn, which I really enjoyed.
