Service at this location can fluctuate between indifferent and friendly. It's not my usual spot, but its central location makes it convenient when traveling across town to pick up items. One particular highlight is a bun with a mochi filling -- alarmingly perfect, with a harmony of textures that truly delights. I've tried their coffee as well; the regular brew surpasses Tim's and McDonald's in smoothness and low acidity. If the coffee station were improved, I might even consider ordering a cup when pressed for time. As usual ,Saint Germain Baker on 1395 E.33rd Avenue is one of my choices to pick up dessert cake for our weekend enjoyment. Our 「dessert 」time turned out to become the King of Vancouver to enjoy such a deluxe bun filled with lobster meat and a delicious lobster soup to celebrate the lobster's festival according to their poster. No more lobster roll on the menu and no signs of durian cake in their fridge. Elimination of these specialty items dropped their rating for me since I don't find their egg tarts or buns delicious or better value than other Chinese bakery shops. This location does boasts of a clean and spacious storefront, where staff do a decent job in packaging their bakery items in clear bags. But ambiance can't compensate for the lack of yumminess or "Wow factor" in their birthday cakes and baked items. I already have preferred bakery for buying fresh mango cakes and authentic Cantonese flaky egg tarts; so without the specialty items like lobster roll and durian cake, I won't return often. Repeat visits here may be limited to parking convenience or for cold drinks on a hot day when nearby. read more

We were looking for light breakfast before heading home to prepare and host Christmas dinner. On our way home we stopped at Saint Germain Bakery location Knight & East 33rd in Vancouver to grab hot beverage and bun. I didn't know this location has beverages and it was a nice enjoying some quiet time before guests arrive. Last minute decision to pick up a cake. I chose chestnut cake as the staff said chestnuts was in season. Perfect to add to dessert for my Christmas party at home. We enjoyed black sesame latte with pineapple bbq bun. The staff was nice and knowledgeable. There are not many tables and chairs but we were able to find a three seater along the window. read more

I came here for lobster roll and was told it was out of season (winter). I guess I'll need to come back during summer. This place is big with a dine in section. You can also get coffee, tea and bubble tea here besides the usual bread, buns and cakes. I got durian cake from the refrigerator. It is a small size which you can still cut into 4 pieces. $24 for that. Let it defrost further in your home fridge before eating. So good! Good to know I can get durian cake here. We went to Saint Germain Bakery on E. 33rd at Knight St. to try out their lobster roll. They are the only location of Saint Germain Bakery that offers this lobster roll. It was generously packed with lobster and the meat was moist. Really didn't expect too much of it, especially from a Chinese bakery, so I was quite impressed with it. It exceeded my expectations. While we were there, we also bought a Hong Kong Milk Tea, some buns, an egg tart and a portuguese egg tart to try. Aside from the Lobster roll, the Hong Kong Milk Tea is what really stood out for us. It was very flavourful and sweet but not overly sweet. They're a bakery; not a bubble tea shop. I really didn't expect the drink to be so good, but just like the lobster roll, this Hong Kong Milk Tea exceeded my expectations. The store is very spacious, and unlike other locations this one has a few tables so that you can actually sit down and eat your food there. We were lucky enough to get a seat so we got to eat our food right away. Otherwise, we would have probably walked back to our car and eaten our food in the car. I've been ordering birthday cakes from Saint Germain for years so when they opened nearby I was excited. I called first thing to reserve a 6" fruit cake. Around 2, they call me back to tell me that 6" fruit cake was sold out and asked if I wanted to get a different 6" cake or 8" fruit cake. My question is, what happened? I called at opening which is 9 and reserved a cake and they call back at 2pm to say we are sold out? Upon pickup, they asked if we've paid or not. Excuse me? Shouldn't you know the answer to this? When I saw the cake I was horrified that the cake looked nothing like like the cake that was advertised! This is not ok! A very messy establishment and for those who may think oh they speak Chinese maybe there's a miscommunication, this is not true. 4.5 I was so excited driving by last week to see a Saint Germain on the corner of Knight and 33rd. Over the weekend, I popped in twice(!) to grab some goodies while watching ball. The space is bright and open with a few tables on the side. In addition to the usual bakery items and cake display, they also have cheap tasty drinks! The first day I grabbed my go-to SG bao plus an iced matcha latte ($3.25). Bao was tasty and had the perfect colour for me though it could've had a little more filling. My drink was whisked up in front of me and was very flavourful. The second day I grabbed a few more items and drinks. The milk teas were great and cocktail bun fresh. There seemed to be a lot of online orders ping-ing throughout the visit, and a steady stream of customers. Staff were friendly and efficient. Will be back! read more

This is the newest location. So glad they opened there. Parking is limited but I walk there so it's ok. The store is quite large and nicely renovated. It's very bright, modern and clean. It's quite busy there and the buns run out quickly. They aren't quick at refilling it as they might be waiting for a new batch to be baked. Prices are more than regular Chinese bakeries but the quality is a bit better. This location has the lobster bun. I haven't tried it yet but it's $16. It looks quite good with a lot of lobster. The cheapest bun is the pineapple bun for 1.85. Most other items start at $2.25 and up. The best thing is they take credit card. read more

This is one of the newer Saint Germain locations with a small menu of lobster rolls and drinks. Large, spacious and clean bakery! We visited on several locations and tried the following items: - Original Swiss Roll: buttery, light and not too sweet. On the first visit back in Apr/May 2023, this was done well. But on a few recent returns, the quality seems to be a hit-or-miss - Apple Tart: good amount of filling with hints of coconut in the outer shell - though the coconut flavor may not be appealing to everyone - Lobster Roll: decent amount of lobster and worth a try. If it is a take-out order, the lobster is separated with a small piece of wax paper to prevent the bun/roll from getting soggy. - HK Milk Tea: perfect brew and not too sweet. - HK Lemon Tea: same perfect brew, but with lemon. Tip: Lots of street parking along East 33rd Avenue, but you may need to walk half a block or so. Bonus tip: Give the milk tea try - definitely surprised by how good it was! read more

The cashier forgot to add the cake I ordered to my bill. After I paid, I asked her where the cake was. She said she forgot and then told me if I wanted to use card that I needed to buy two cakes because of the credit card minimum. Oh Saint Germain, you have one job to do--and you absolutely failed to do, going down in flames spectacularly. It's my oldest child's 20th birthday, a huge celebration. I ordered an 8" mango passionfruit mousse online the day before the big day. We always order from Maxim's, but when I called this time, I was told that mango wasn't in season, much to my disappointment. Since Saint Germain is relatively new to our area and convenient with the online ordering, I didn't mind paying the markup in price in cake from Maxim's more reasonable prices. When I arrived to pick up the cake, the cashier took my order number and proceeded to search for the cake--but to no avail. Her colleague returned and took more information from my email receipt and she too searched for my cake. No luck. Then they called someone to ask what to do. Someone once again asked to see my receipt for a third time, and the search continued in earnest, yet was fruitless. Finally, they resigned. In the end, they asked me if I needed the cake today. I mean, are you kidding me? Number one, yes I need the cake today. They said they could provide it by 8pm. Number two, I have an enormous problem with that because I expect it now as I want to drop the cake off to my daughter and her friends, and go to a concert. I said, I should expect a discount for their egregious mistake, to which they admitted--but they said they couldn't give me a discount because they already gave me a discount supposedly for ordering a day ahead? So...you made a mistake, not me. They kept arguing about this, which was quite appalling to me. They tried giving me egg tarts instead. I don't want your egg tarts. Instead, they offered to give me two six-inch cakes already made, which they said were pricier than the cake I ordered. I just needed to have cake for my beloved child, and be on my way to the concert. Saint Germain, not sure if I will order from you again. I went there or order some pastries and a drink. I can't have sugar drinks due to a medical condition. Specifically asked which drinks are not sweetened. The girl said matcha latte, milk tea, and black sesame latte. So I tried black sesame latte thinking it sounds interesting. I was shocked when I started drinking it, thinking it doesn't taste unsweetened. I got soooo sick from it. Later, I found out they came pre mixed sweetened. After hearing positive reviews in some neighbourhood Facebook groups, I recently visited St Germain's new location. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We tried four different pastries: The bun with vanilla custard inside was undercooked with raw dough on the bottom, and the custard didn't have much of a flavor. The apple bread had almost no filling, though the bread was nice. The almond croissant pastry was very dense. I did enjoy the salted egg pastry. Despite being a very convenient location, it wasn't good enough to break up with my existing Chinese bakery. read more
