I have visited Buffalo Nickel a few times while visiting Midland for work and enjoyed my visit…read moreevery time. It has a nice easy-going, small-town Texas feel to it which is hard to describe unless you've lived in a town like this like I have. The inside is typically nice and chill; an ideal environment to grab a cocktail or two and conversate with a date, coworker, group of friends, whatever. Out of all the bars I have been to in Midland, I think Buffalo Nickel has the best selection of whiskey especially. I am not a huge whiskey aficionado but I have heard from ones that this is the place to go. I am more of a tequila and beer guy and they have everything I want. The unique thing about this bar is that the back patio is smoke-friendly. I am guilty of wanting some nicotine after some drinks so this is a great place for me. They also sell cigars if that is your thing. Cheers!

They have a nice selection to grab a couple to smoke on the back patio or to take with you for later. Hubby really enjoy the Crazy Alice, said it was one of the best cigars he's ever had! We sat at the bar and our bartender was very sweet and attentive. Explained the cocktails a bit for us and gave suggestions. The Pumpkin Spiced White Russian caught my eye online so I went with that and hubby had an Old Fashioned. Drinks were spot on so when the bartender said they had a great Espresso Martini I said but of course! It was absolutely delicious!! We highly recommend Buffalo Nickel for a small gathering or date night cocktails.

The vegetables were described as crisp but these were also dry and crunchy due to being overcooked. The caper sauce that I was looking forward to seemed like an overly salty pesto. All I could taste was salt. The lettuce wedge was good as was the pimento cheese dip. The service was good. The management was too cheap to spring for cable and the TVs had a week old minor league baseball game while the NBA finals played on TVs at real bars. Very disappointing!

The craft beer selection is just as strong, with plenty of great options on rotation. What really sets this place apart is how much they care about their community and their staff. They actively encourage their own employees to create original cocktails and even feature those drinks right on the menu next to the bartender's name. It's a small touch that shows how much they value the people who work there, and it keeps the cocktail list fresh and personal. They've also done a fantastic job expanding people's palates when it comes to tequila. Whether you're a longtime fan or someone who's just starting to explore it, they make it approachable and exciting. I'll always recommend Blue Door to anyone looking for a great beverage. And if you're not drinking or taking a break, don't skip them. Ask about their mocktails. The lineup is just as thoughtful and impressive as everything else they do. Truly a place that loves its community and its people. Highly recommend.

I will say that I was pretty impressed with the food and especially the service but there were still some things that kept me from giving it a perfect score. First off, the service was impeccable. When I walked in, I was greeted right away and sat promptly. My customers that I was taking out arrived a bit later because I was early but I was still provided with water and not bothered. An additional customer came so we had to move tables and it was done promptly and professionally. We were helped without it being overwhelming. Great job! The food was good and well-prepared. I ordered the roasted salmon and it was cooked very well with a crispy skin, the asparagus and brussel sprouts were salted well and cooked just right, the only complaint on the taste is that I wish there was a bit more jalapeño sauce and that it was spicier. It had no kick to it at all. My main overall reason for taking a star off is that the prices are definitely too high compared to the offering. Was the salmon dish good? Yes. But was it $39 without tax and tip good? Not really. Overall, I recommend this place to impress a date or to take a customer where conversation can be had easily with a nice atmosphere.

She treated us like we weren't worth her time, yet she was at her JOB of serving people and no one else was in the room. Go figure. Anyway, we ordered food....beware most of it is just frozen crap that gets reheated in the kitchen. Nothing is fresh. Salmon was a triangle shape like you get from Sam's club freezer dept, mixed veggies were also from a freezer and slightly reheated. One of my veggies was actually still frozen on the inside! Mac n cheese was cold. Seriously it had not even been warmed up appropriately. How hard is that? Steaks were okay and probably your best option there but not worth the $27. Bartender did a great job of mixing drinks. Mixed drinks were all perfect. Cooler was "out" so no draft beer at all. Second server also talked down to us like we were trash. We were just about to leave and go somewhere else when we received our third server who was awesome. Kristian was her name and she knows how to serve!! Great attitude, attentive, patient, talkative and friendly. So we stayed a few hours, DJ shows up around 9:00 and he did a great job with music selection. Dance floor is small but not crowded. No smoking in the main part of the bar so this is a nice place to go dancing and not end up smelling like cigarettes all night. I'd recommend this place for drinks and dancing but definitely not for dinner!! Also, ask for Kristian to be your server if possible so you get treated with respect.
