This is my second trip here this time it was a great experience all around. Got greeted right away, and the drink I got was French tonic, the ingredients are Farmers Gin, Lille Blanc, and elderflower tonic with mint and strawberries,I recommend this drink if you want a refreshing I worked all day and want to relax cocktail. So that shows there is no consistency in service. All patrons should be greeted within 30-45 seconds of sitting down, even if it is saying I will be right with welcome to (insert establishment). I saw this on bar rescue on TV all customers should feel like VIP. This was about a half full bar on Sat at 8:30pm. The female bartender gave excellent service and asked if I wanted another drink when my drink was near gone. This is exactly how it should be done. By far my favorite bar in Midland! Staff is always friendly, they have a decent happy hour, the drinks are always mixed well and delicious, and they give you pretzels and warm peanuts to snack on. We've gone a few Saturdays dying happy hour, 4p-7p, and there aren't many customers. The place has dim lighting and is a bit romantic, but the decor is very chic and modern. Very nice place! The inside is big and open with lots of seating. The atmosphere is laid back, it can get noisy but usually the noise level isn't too bad. Every experience here has been relaxed and comfortable. Every member of the staff that I've dealt with has been helpful, attentive, and very friendly. I'm a beer fan, and The Blue Door always has a good selection of beers to choose from. It would be even better if they had a few on tap. I usually stick to beer, but the mixed drinks I have tried here have been fantastic! I've only been here a few times for Young Professionals of Midland mixers and I've enjoyed the time I've spent on the back patio, but it is still a upper-scale bar. While visiting my parents in Midland we decided to stop by Blue Door for pre-dinner cocktails. I think the atmosphere is something unique and fun for Midland (simple, haute, hip) and the cocktails range from fun, funky, fresh and elegant. If you like whiskey or scotch you will adore their extensive selection. Because it was a beautiful winter day we sat outside (boy, is this fun to say when you are from Chicago - outside in winter) on their patio with heaters, but the inside looked very chill and hip and I would have enjoyed that too. We arrived around 4:30 pm and they were hopping! As I mentioned we sat outside to enjoy the weather. There were a few large tables coming in and the staff seemed a little rushed and hectic (which we soon found out many staff had not made it in due to the flu that has been going around and they were short staffed). We ordered a bourbon on the rocks, martini and a whiskey sour which took quite a while to receive but the server apologized profusely and comped our drinks (!). Not long after that the manager, or owner, came by to apologize for our delay (of which we hardly noticed) and welcomed us. What a completely refreshing and genuine display of hospitality we received! We only stayed for our one cocktail because we had reservations but I left with a smile on my face. Blue Door gets two thumbs up in my book for inventive cocktails, a sleek atmosphere and genuine Texas hospitality. read more

As someone who grew up in Midland (1988-2006), I was greatly surprised to hear that a cocktail bar opened not only in town, but within walking distance of my parents' house (not that anyone in Midland ever walks anywhere). I wasn't sure what to expect the first time I went to the Blue Door, but after visiting the bar several times over the past couple of holiday seasons, I've been impressed with my experiences there. The Blue door is clearly trying to cultivate an atmosphere that is relatively upscale while still being relaxed and warm. As some critical reviews pointed out, they don't serve shots at all. While this may be a little harsh, it makes sense to me. There are nice bars that serve shots without the place degenerating into a Senor Frogs, but in Midland, I wouldn't chance it. The cocktails at The Blue Door are quite good, albeit overpriced (I live in the Bay Area in California and you can get an old fashioned of commensurate quality here for a lower price). I do appreciate how they make their own bitters though. The beer situation is kind of unusual. While they offer an extensive selection of craft beers in bottles or cans, they do not have any beers on tap. I wonder what the reason for this is. Also, $7 for beer in a can is crazy. Again, I say this as someone who currently lives in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. I do not recall seeing any wine listed on the menu, nor do I remember seeing anyone drinking wine, so I can't really say anything about that. It was interesting to see the variety of people at the bar. In most cities that I've lived in, there are generally separate bars for college students, young professionals, and middle aged adults, so I liked how The Blue Door has all groups of people hanging out together. Lastly, the service that I've had at The Blue Door has been really good every time I've been there. Overall, this is a fun bar and my go-to hangout spot for when I visit Midland. read more

New to town, The Blue Door is the real deal. I have also been to the other craft cocktail lounge in Midland/Odessa and they are so high on themselves the place is oxygen deprived, the staff hallucinates that being a snotty hipster bartender stills works on adults in Texas or nearly anywhere for that matter. The Blue Door is up scale but unpretentiousness it is a credit to craft bars. The staff is top notch and pleasant. The beer selection is awesome and covers breweries from coast to coast. The Cocktails are honest and creative. I'm beyond happy that I found The Blue Door upon moving here, made the transition much nicer. read more

I have been living in the area for 8 months and finally made an eagerly anticipated trip to The Blue Door. Maybe I expected too much but the visit was a huge disappointment and I won't be returning. Decor: It starts out great with the charming blue door but once instead the charm ended. It's like they started out with a nice ceiling, beautiful light fixtures and then ran out of money or inspiration. The walls are decorated with only these beige fabric panels that look like you find in an office cubicle and would pin a phone list onto. The tables are completely unadorned and all situated to cram as many in a large open space with no sense of intimacy or ambiance. There are three large tv screens showing sports. And loud rock music from the 70's playing. Is this place a sports bar, classy bar, old speakeasy? Not sure what it was trying to be but it succeeds nowhere. Drinks: We ordered a Beatnik and the Aloe drink (forget the exact name). The drinks tasted very good. But the huge problem with the aloe one was that the glass was completely filled with shaved ice and literally 2 drops of drink-one drop of which spilled over the side when it was served. I literally finished this drink in one sip. That's all I can really say as I simply didn't get a drink to taste. For $8. Service: Our server acted distant and uninterested. The lengthiest part of our interaction was when he explained their policy for requiring a credit card upfront. Apparently their clientele is known for skipping out on bills. Luckily I didn't want another drink because he was nowhere to be found. Just absolutely poor service. I so wanted to like this place and it was a huge letdown. Ugh. read more
