I have long been a patron of 606 W. Missouri, but having moved on from Midland it has been awhile since I visited. My girlfriend and I popped in during a recent pub crawl in Midland, and the place still has it. Efficient service, a great vibe with the photos on the walls, great drinks, and peanuts & popcorn on which to snack. The menu is comprehensive, and the food is tasty. This is a building in the downtown area with lots of parking spots but it's a pretty busy lot because of how many folks can be seated inside. We came for lunch and I have to admit to being fairly shocked when we walked in that they still allowed smoking indoors. Very unexpected now days. We ended up sitting out on the patio because we wanted to avoid the cigarette smoke and because it was nice outside. The tables were VERY "wobbly" and there wasn't a ton of shade where we were sitting. They have a decent size menu to pick from of traditional American food. There were four of us on a business lunch so we got a nice mix of items between us sll and everything came out perfectly. The waitress was working really hard but she was very busy so it was hard for us to get a check to get out of there. Made for a really long lunch. read more

Lunchtime with coworkers in the middle of the week... it wasn't very packed but a good amount to people. We were able to seat ourselves right away. Immediately I didn't want to have lunch there because people smoke in there. Needless to say at the end of lunch returning to work I smelled like a chain smoker. They have typical bar-style food. Had a great evening at The Bar. The food was lovely. Down home cooking at its best. The music was eclectic enough to hold just about anyone's attention. While there was smoking (it's a bar after all) there was enough ventilation to it make it annoying. I had the grilled chicken, green beans and corn bread. I can't say enough positive about it. The chicken was grilled perfectly and was juicy and yummy. The green beans were obviously homemade and scrumptious. The cornbread was a little dense but that just added to the flavor once I slathered on butter. The service was superb. Very attentive. We had only to think we needed something and the young woman was there. I will warn ya that the music was loud but thats why we came. So all in all a great time. Best brunch in town at the best price! Get there before 10:45 on Saturday mornings for brunch for no wait. Bloody Mary's are better than the Mimosas. This place is a Midland establishment and if you want to experience what this town is all about, comer here! It's also a great place to grab a drink on the patio if weather's nice. Burgers are good here. I never been to a bar/restaurant where smoking was allowed. Welcome to Texas. The place is pretty small, dingy and dark. The restrooms are hard to find....funny that the tables are so close to the ladies restroom door way. I love the Bar. I have been in watering holes all over North America, as well as Europe, and Central America. I love the bar. I have but one complaint, I hate having to pay a cover in the rare event I show up on a Friday or Saturday night, because I am not usually coming for the band. Maybe we can have a 30 minute limit before you have to pay the cover charge... Great food, great folks, smoky bar room...like a REAL bar is supposed to be. Read that NYC, Austin, and and all the rest of you urban nazis! Good cold beer options. They make a great red beer and Michelada. Good, Bloody Marys, though not as good as Riley's. Only thing, don't get complicated, they are usually busy. The Bar has an excellent lunch, and a 4.5 star Saturday brunch. I will admit I am biased since my Saturday brunch is spent with great friends, but the menu IS unique and Texas original. The food is good! Service is good and friendly. The stew and cornbread are yum. Steaks are cooked right. Custom built chili is tasty. They WILL create a custom salad for you. Goid, okd time ambiance. Looks like they havent chaged a thing in 40 years unless its more memorabilia on the walls. Huge portions. They satisfied my search for a goid chicken fried steak since Massey's in Firt Worth closed a few years ago. My only critque is that sometimes the breading is a bit thicker than I orefer. Most of the time its perfect. Ive trien other entrees and all were giod. One caution, a "medium" burger can come out as medium rare during rushes. This place is awesome, but it is extremely cliquey. It's a regulars bar where newcomers feel a little out of place or not welcome. Or at least that's how I feel every time I walk in and this was something I was warned about when I first moved to Midland. Though once you get over that bump, this place is amazing and their brunch is one of the best brunches I've ever had. I recommend this place to anyone who hasn't had a chance to. It's been a while since I visted this storied Midland location. In fact, the last time I was here, Yelp wasn't even an app, it was what happened if you accidently stepped on your dog's tail. But I had really pleasant memories of the food and atmosphere, and the burgers are pretty notoriously good, so I felt the West Texas wind blow me here once again. First thing's first, the parking lot is surprisingly large for a downtown business that is not in a high rise bank building. This is a testament, I suppose, to the length of time The Bar has been in business and to the customer base which keeps returning. The decor theme is evident immediately upon entering the parking lot: there are signs for oilfield production companies and automotive petroleum products adorning the outside walls. Midland is oil country, after all, and The Bar has witnessed the ups and downs of the industry for decades. That history permeates the place. I came here for a burger and a burger I would have. I eschewed the fancier signature burgers and went for a simple cheeseburger so that I might get a baseline on the flavor, both of the meat and the veggies. I was given the choice between mayo and mustard, though I suppose dry was an option as well. This is just so they know which condiment, if any, to bring to your table. The burger is served open faced and you dress it yourself. Ketchup is already on the table for use on your fries etc, so if you eat your burger Yankee style (shudder) that red sugar paste is available to you. The burger itself is very juicy even though it is cooked well done (recent news stories make me glad for that.) The flavor of the fire is upon these burgers, even though conventional wisdom says to sear on a flat top or skillet. Whatever. It works for these burgers. The veggies are the standard complement of onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato, all delicious. You are also offered a choice of French fries, sweet potato fries, and home cooked potato chips. I went with French fries, again, to get a baseline read, and it was here that I was most disappointed. Frozen shoestring fries are a cheap and easy option, but not a particularly tasty one. House cut and cooked fries would send this burger into the stratosphere. So, in conclusion, EAT AT THIS PLACE. You'll be supporting a semi-historic local business and getting great food too. This is the ultimate dive bar/restaurant. Its easy to miss if you're just driving by. Inside, its dark, dingy and smoke-filled (they have a no smoking room in the back). The waitresses are generally friendly. The Bar offers soups, salads, burgers, fried catfish and steaks. Brunch is offered on Saturdays with huge Migas, omelettes, etc. I have generally found the food to be quite tasty but have had a problem with the apparent lack of cleanliness. After getting sick the last two times I've eaten there, I don't go there any more. read more

The first time I went to The Bar it was extremely busy. The bartender was pretty rude at the beginning. When we closed out our tab she became more friendly. I'm going to chalk the rudeness up to the business of the place that night. The second time I visited The Bar I sat at a table and ordered appetizers and drinks. The waitress definitely could have been more friendly. The food was pretty good. We had stuffed jalepeno peppers and wings. Wings were surprisingly very good! I can't say that I wouldn't give it another try but I can not say I would recommend the place to anyone either. read more

Out of towner here. On a spontaneous trip to Midland with my friend to visit their fam/friends. This was our first stop after our arrival. We sat on the patio, which I prefer, coming from AZ, and Kelly was our girl. She is awesome. Friendly, attentive, ready to refill my Shinerbock. Is there more to want? The food was good. My experience here for the first time has been really good. I had their "Bar Burger" and it was pretty delicious, a little greasy but thats nothing new specially its got bacon in there. The vibe here is really nice. I dont really see this place as a bar.. It's more like a restaurant with bar. Nevertheless i like the vibe in here. I wouldn't mind coming here again with friends and hang out here for drinks and some food. Smoking is allowed in here but its pretty well ventilated read more
