New to the area and looking on Yelp for a good place to bring my family in town visiting. Very disappointed in Sailors Return. Started with the poor experience making a reservation-the person answering the phone didn't want to be bothered. I expected a decent steak and sides and it just didn't happen. The filet mignon was dry, the baked potato was undercooked and the spinach was over cooked. My family was unimpressed with their meals as well. Calling the food decent is an over statement. I just don't understand the great ratings. Perhaps recent supply chain issues and service challenges? I won't be back and recommend that if you want a great or even a good meal this isn't the spot. Perhaps the outside ambiance is worth the less then mediocre meal-not in my opinion. read more

Everytime I visit Florida we eat here! Such a great atmosphere and beautiful place, love eating on the water. But the food is fantastic!! I love the calamari and the filet mignon! Seriously delicious! And the waitstaff there is so nice and accommodating. I love going here! Valet. No masks. People inside walking around, no masks. We're seated promptly. Then after almost 20 minutes had to ask for someone to take our order. Dirty glasses and crumbs in the napkin with silverware. Ordered lunch and a bottle or Prosecco. Lunch came, forgot my side. Then didn't bring ketchup, I walked to the hostess stand and got it myself. My wife and I went here last night for happy hour. I've read some mixed reviews and several friends said the food can be very hit or miss which, for the price, I did not want to tempt. But I heard the happy hour was good and after spending a couple hours hanging out by the water I have to agree. Their drink specials are pretty good and at $5 cocktails and $2 beers it's hard to find a better value. They're drinks were good, though not as stiff as I would have liked. Their appetizer menu consisted of about 7 or 8 options. We opted for the hummus and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good. I don't know what the dipping sauce was but it was very good. It was sweet with a little kick to it. The hummus on the other hand was top notch. It's your traditional hummus with feta cheese and kalamata olives. I'm thinking a taste of feta here and there and some bits of olive. I was happily mistaken. The whole thing is covered in feta and underneath is this delicious, thick hummus and a good amount of whole olives. It's served with a variety of crackers, toast points and veggies. The outdoor area is a great place to relax. Can't beat the view being right on the water with all the yachts anchored just across the way. They have a stage with live music. Not sure who was singing last night but he was good. Overall I'm still hesitant to go back for dinner. But we will definitely go back for the happy hour and that hummus. We met friends at the Sailors Return on 7/22 for lunch. We were seated right away. Or beverage order was taken right away,and the waiter gave us the daily specials. The beer and wine selection was just the right size, there was enough of a selection without being overbearing as some restaurants tend to do. I enjoyed the blackened Mahi mahi sandwich which was excellent,the cole slaw was perfect with the sandwich. We ate on a porch overlooking the marina,and there were many fans directing the air flow to keep the diners comfortable. We will definitely be back to explore other items on the menu. read more

I only provide a 3 star review because the value didn't really match up to my expectations. Either the price should have been lower for what you're ordering and what you get, or the food quality should have been stellar. Excellent place to go, and we do every time we visit. The seating on the water with the beautiful boats sets a great stage, and there's a lot of seating available there (inside as well). The valet parking is a plus so you don't need to hunt for street parking. The last time we were there - last week - the service was amazing. The waitress knew her stuff, checked on us often, and really was able to comment on the menu choices. Everything came out right. There is more than just seafood here for those that don't prefer it. That said, I'm not a big seafood lover but try to order that here given it's...well, a seafood place and caught locally and is fresh. The calamari was great (per the rest of my party as I don't like calamari), the buratta salad was good, as was the Caesar salad. The fish mains were tasty and prepared to order. The bread was yummy and fresh. The drinks were mostly good but strong (some too strong to enjoy, didn't taste too good) hence the removal of one star. Just went to Sailors Return with significant other, daughter and grandson. Arrived about 6:PM. Ordered drinks 6:15 then dinner about 6:40. About 7:15 complained to waitress and was told the kitchen was backed up and was told "sorry can't do anything about it". About 7:30 asked the Mgr if he could do anything, his response was similar to the waitress. No offer to do anything but sorry very busy. At this point any idiot would offered a drink or other thing to appease a pissed off customer. Apparently their disorganized kitchen is the customer's problem. We left ten minutes later. The dinner order was Halibut, Snapper, Swordfish and a chicken dish. With drinks the check was probably $200. I was happy to stiff them as they were telling me the food was coming as we walked out!!! read more

Bottom Line: it's a great "Go To/Destination place with really good food. The setting is beautiful. It's a can't go wrong place to have a nice cocktail, a light super or a romantic dinner. There is plenty of seating outside - either completely outside on the bottom deck or up on the next level which has a roof over a porch like seating area. The boats are all beautiful expensive eye candy. There are always plenty of boats moored at the dock. The sunsets are always pretty to watch. The food is good. Very good. I had scallops with risotto and spinach. The scallops were large, plump and good. The risotto was delicious. The dish was $32. One of our friends had scallops with short ribs over risotto. That was also delicious. That was $35. I think it is very expensive and if it were just on a main road I would probably not go back. But that being said, go for that special occasion and splurge. Or go often and enjoy one or 2 glasses of wine and a light bite and enjoy the Florida water and sunsets. Bottom Line: Mother Nature and well prepared seafood are worth the splurge. read more

I'm new to the area and working close by here temporarily and was wandering around for lunch when I happened upon sailors return! The entrance was understated but I was quickly impressed by the view that was offered while dining; right off the water, in view of some amazing boats. The staff was super friendly and attentive while they had a decent lunch crowd. I got the salmon California wrap by recommendation of the super friendly waitress which was PERFECT. Not to heavy for lunch and it tasted great. I hear this place has live bands playing on the weekends and is a popular place after work and on weekends. The view from our table was very nice & for been a hot day (88 degrees fill like 106) they keep the area comfortable with fans :-) For appetizer we order Spinach & Artichoke Dip ($9.95) follow with Fish & Chips (cod fish) with Sweet Potatoes Fries($14.95) and Grill Mahi sandwich with Cole Slaw ($13.95). After all that food I wanted to taste the Orange Cake to share with a Black American Coffee ($12.95) The place is Awesome with the nice river setting. Dined here on Thanksgiving as part of a party of 11 and they were able to accommodate us fine. Our server was excellent, being polite and efficient throughout the entire meal. We did not feel rushed or cramped. The menu had many good options for a holiday menu with traditional Turkey dinner as well as several seafood, chicken, pork and beef options. They were also able to accommodate a vegan family member. Everything was fresh and served at the right temperature with generous portions and nice presentation. The location affords a stunning harbor view and there are tables inside and out on the deck which is dockside. I would definitely go back and recommend to others. read more

I came on vacation visiting family and had the pleasure of meeting April. She was a top notch server and a sweet person. She guided us through the menu and helped us decide where to have drinks after. Later that week we came back with the rest of the family and Patrick waited on us outside. He was great as well, we also ran into April and she recognized us. We will return on our next vacation! Highly recommend the prime rib (Queens cut was huge and enough for 2) coconut shrimp was delicious, Mahi was delicious, we literally loved everything we had! Ahoy Mates! Sitting in this restaurant and looking out over the marina reminds me of old Ft. Lauderdale. When I mean old I mean the early 70's. Bahia Mar before it became Bahia Mar. Now sitting inside this restaurant and bar is present day utopia. Well appointed with some eye catching art work and waterfall outside. Happy Hour On a Friday afternoon, not one seat is available at the bar. My wife and I walk outside and same story no seats at he bar. Instead of getting pissed, I know this is a great sign that as tourists we found a good place. I stand on the side rail and my wife sits in the one open chair. Hey this a great way to lose weight by standing:) the server comes right over and takes are drink orders and tells us about he happy hour specials. I'm not gonna sit here and break them down for you, just show up because they have some great deals. We have a few drinks and BAM two seats open up at the bar. We head over and start talking with a nice couple who retired from New Jersey. Our server than tells us is she is from Coconut Creek and we start chit chatting about Broward County. You can see where I'm going with this, everyone is super friendly. I watch as other folks are getting food and I tell my bride we have to come back to eat. Since we had attend a party we paid our tab and left. Next Day We are back! We decide to take my in laws here for lunch. They were happy to meet us because they have only been here once for their anniversary a couple of years. They felt it was kinda expensive but they loved the food. We order smoked fish dip and Sailors Bread which is described as fresh chopped tomato, garlic, basil, extra virgin Olive Oil, melted fontina and Gorgonzola cheeses served over bread. Basically bruschetta on steroids. Now the fish dip is made by a local joint called Mrs. Peters. It is served all around Stuart, Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce. It's a local favorite. I'm not a big fan of this dip because it too fine and has to much mayo for my taste. Many restaurants and bars serve food that is not made in house. Desserts are a great example of what I'm talking about. But, fish dip? It's not hard to make this from scratch because I've done it and I'm not a chef. Shit I'm looking right at the water. You can't get some damn fresh kingfish and smoke that shit up mix it with a little mayo, some dill relish and some seasonings? That advice goes to all the restaurants that are serving this Mrs. Peters Dip. BTW Mrs Peters Dip is not bad at all I think this restaurant can make their own. Enough of that. The sailor bread was tasty and original. I'm a big fan of layering flavors without adding lots of salt. This was a great example of taking simple components and making magic. For main course we had, a Mahi sandwich, blacken Mahi tacos, a chicken salad sandwich and a free range chicken sandwich. I had the tacos and the pieces of Mahi were plentiful and the sauce that was drizzled in top cooled down the blacken seasonings and added a flavor pop to the whole dish. It had a thousand island taste that was thinned out into more a creamy sauce. Everyone one else loved their selections. Service Top notch. Our server was Rich and he was so polite as the day is long. I was joking springs with him as he continued to say, It's my pleasure. I couldn't help but think of Chik filet. The workers their always say that and I often marveled on how polite those workers are. I told Rich that and knew exactly what I was talking about it and we had a good chuckle. I was so impressed with him I spoke with the manager Michael to give Rich kudos for a job well done. Verdict If I lived here I would be a regular. I didn't see price as an issue because they had a nice Summertime menu with some for decent set price and the drink specials were spot on. The Sailor's Return anchors one end of downtown Stuart's excellent River walk boardwalk. It fully exploits a commanding view of the Sunset Bay Marina with lavish fenestration and outdoor tables scattered across a large terraced deck. If the prices on the menu don't scare you away, it's a great place to enjoy a meal while ogling expensive yachts and the people who own them. We went for a pre-theatre dinner at 5:30 on a Thursday evening in February. As we were being seated, we noted that an immediately adjacent table had been set up for ten people and asked if we could sit at any table in a large cluster of empty two and four-tops but were told that 1) they were not available to us and 2) the large party would not be seated until 6:30. While we had a reservation which specified being seated by the water, we quietly accepted our fate. Immediately upon our being seated, our waiter introduced himself and took our drinks order. Faced with an imposing card of draught beers, my partner asked for some help. Our waiter informed her that Smithwicks, pronounced smith-wicks, was a very strong German beer. Guinness, who own Smithwicks, pronounce it smithicks, and market it as an Irish pale ale would disagree. So my partner chose Blue Moon, another German beer. I told our waiter that we would be leaving for the theatre and asked if there would be any difficulty wrapping up by 6:30. He assured us that there would be no problem. My partner started with an excellent Caesar salad, while I chose the Mike Dukakis special, an endive affair with blue cheese and nuts. Not bad. We then split a conch special, which was similar to cracked conk, but in very large thick pieces. With or without its special dressing, it was great. The table for ten was seated about six. Varied in age and uniformly well dressed, the were the kind of people who might have been called swells in 19th century New York or dudes in early 20th century Wyoming. Except for their habit of randomly reseating themselves every few minutes, they seemed pretty normal. When our waiter started taking their drink orders, we knew that we wouldn't be having a main course that night. When our waiter finally returned to our table around 6:20, we quickly ordered key lime pie, reminding him again that we needed to get out of Dodge by 6:30. To his credit, he processed the $53 bill quickly. Would we consider returning to Sailor? Sure. While we might have received a few slights, the view was great. The little bit of the menu that we were able to sample was encouraging, and the live jazz was pleasant. read more

I'm giving this three stars because you are paying for the view here. While the service was really good, the food was average at best. I had the sea bass, sitting on the water how could you possibly not have fish? It was mediocre in flavor but was a huge piece of seabass. It just had not flavor. My girlfriend had the herb baked salmon and it too was huge but lacked in flavor as well and yet its herb baked? Both moms had eggplant chicken which was smothered in cheese (too much) and a barely recognizable thin piece of eggplant. They both said it was tasty but they did miss the eggplant. I wound up eating dad's skirt steak which I have to admit was pretty damned good. However he ordered it medium and it came out rare. This was fine for me I love my meat rare, and it had a great sauce on it that was full of flavor. Delish. So here's my take away... Don't order seafood at this place, order anything else, because everyone says the food is good but it seems that no one orders sea food here. So next time I go I'll try something else. But realistically lets recognize a few things, the lines out the door, the prices are way too high, and the food is just ok. You're paying for the view here, for a beautiful sunset. read more

If you know anyone from the Treasure Coast they have probably steered you toward the Sailor's Return. It is definitely a port which once you have gone you will want to return. The only problem will probably be the parking. This place is busy everyday. It is well deserved because the food and service are top notch. I always like to give a shout out to the servers who are truly trying to make our dining experience memorable. Today it was Jake. Good job mani! Keep up the excellent work. Now back to the parking. I recommend if you know or google maps your way around that you come in on the split off of US 1 southbound. It is a right hander just AFTER the last traffic light at Fork Rd before you cross over the causeway to Stuart. Be in the right hand lane. This takes you to Old Dixie Hwy. There are 2 stop signs going under the causeway. Turn right at the second one. This takes you over the river again and the restaurant is on your right directly northwest of the causeway viaduct. Look for parking spaces on both sides of the road. The side entryway to the restaurant parking lot is on the Northside of the viaduct. We dined at this place on a Monday afternoon recently. It seems to be a newer building as everything was crisp and shiny. It seemed somewhat busy for the hour, it was 2:00ish. The view was GREAT and if I had a boat, I'd be at the front door with at the marina. They have an outside bar with a large seating area in the bar and also for the restaurant. The decor is very well done. We enjoyed good service, with just the right attention. We never had to ask for a refill, the food came out in a timely manner, the check was presented at the appropriate time, and we weren't asked idiotic questions. I had a daily special, which was an Italian sub. It had plenty of meat and great cheese. However, there was no dressing, sauce or anything that would be considered a must have for such a sandwich. I tried it as is and was OK enough to eat. It was actually tasty, but I could tell something was missing. It came with a side, and I chose fries. They were just regular fries. 2 people in our party had the fish and chips. They both said the dish was good. My wife said good not great. The other person in our party had a soup and salad. She said the beef and lamb stew was pretty good and hearty. The prices were just a bit higher than should be, but not too bad. Each of our entrees was $9.95. I expected lunches to be about $6-$8. I'm holding back the 4th star because of price and average tasting food. I'd go back, it's just not 4 star worthy right now. read more
