Finally, a Vietnamese restaurant closer than Squirrel Hill! This restaurant has turned over several times, but I hope this is here to stay. I'm always craving pho ga (chicken) on cold days and this one is delicious. It was full or chicken, noodles, and herbs. We also got the edamame and my husband got the beef salad. The beef salad had a great variety of vegetables and wasn't your average salad with too much iceberg. I highly recommend this restaurant for Vietnamese takeout. This place is awesome! There's limited seating as it's more of a takeout place. But the food is amazing. I order from here at least 2-3 month. The COM with chicken is delicious. And it's served with fresh cucumber, tomato, jalapeño and picked onions and carrots. The chicken is tender and super flavorful. The portions are huge. I usually get 3 meals out of one order. The western roll, seaweed salad and fried dumplings are fantastic too. Owners are friendly and welcoming. Don't just drive past this place. Stop in! Do not skip out on this place! It is definitely up there in my top 10 restaurants in Pittsburgh. Their pho is outstanding. So flavorful and authentic. The Bahn Mi is incredible. Might be the best sandwich in town, no joke. Their sushi is a surprise, and a good surprise. Every roll we have ordered exceeds our expectations. Ordered a variety of items but of course can't remember all the names. I know the soup was Pho and there was plenty of it. Actually everything we ordered was plentiful. The clear wrap item had some type of meat in it. And everything was very good. Not much seating, and everything is served in plastic. My nephew asked to get Boba Tea so we found this place close to Thornburg across from the old Burkett Elementary school. The boba tea was delightful. We had five different flavors - watermelon, banana, strawberry, peach and blueberry milk teas. All were excellent! my brother in law got a bottle of root beer. He claimed his drink was good too . we also had spring rolls. They were good but big enough to be a meal. peanut sauce was great! crispy wontons were wonderful. served with a sweet and sour sauce. my BIL had the Bahn mi. Said it was good - very spicy veggies which he liked. His face was a little red at the end. We had two sushi rolls - caterpillar and spicy Alaskan. Both very good. My 12 year old nephew is vegetarian. he ordered a bowl of white rice. it was nice and sticky. He ate it all and said it was good. This from the boy, who at 6, loudly declared his hot dog bun with ketchup, to be the best he'd ever had at a hot dog restaurant in Atlanta. This was a very nice restaurant. The owners/chef/servers were delightful. Very friendly. They checked on us several times. I will definitely make this a regular stop when I am visiting home. My wife and I went earlier today at the request of one of her friends. TRY THIS PLACE! We each ordered Pho (one with tofu, one with shrimp) and split a Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich. The Pho Amazing taste and a very decent size portion. The broth was excellent and it was the perfect weekend comfort food. Be careful and don't eat the entire chili pepper. Bahn Mi Insanely good. Like, I have to go buy this sandwich tomorrow good. If you need a tasty lunch (that is cheap btw), I definitely would recommend it. It had a great punch of spice, but also freshness from the veggies. Saigon 88 Express has been one of my absolute favorite go-to's during the pandemic. I live about 25 minutes away and will drive here for takeout about every other week. I love that I can just order right here from the Yelp app. Food has always been consistently delicious and the service has been phenomenal. The more I order from here, the more I have come to realize that this place is probably the best for Vietnamese food in Pittsburgh. I don't typically get the pho here because pho is just never as good served in a takeout container. However, I love love love the banh uot (flat rice noodles)! I haven't seen this dish served at any other Vietnamese restaurant in Pittsburgh and Saigon 88 does it right. The portion is large, but I manage to eat every little bit of it. It's that good. This restaurant is absolutely a gem! The people there were so friendly that even though it was our first visit (we drove ~45 minutes out and would do the drive once a week it was so good) the staff immediately treated us like we've all been friends for years. The food was absolutely incredible- came out so fresh and steaming hot. I got the brisket pho and it is the best I've had, and the limeade tea with boba was amazing and went so well with the hot soup. The ambience was very nice, it's small inside but so beautifully decorated and very clean. I actually spilled my whole bowl of soup all over and felt SO bad, but the staff eased my embarrassment and shame and didn't let me lift a finger to help clean up. They also made me a WHOLE NEW BOWL, for free. Needless to say we left a tip equal to the amount of a new bowl lol. Probably the best Vietnamese place around the area. The location is somewhat low-key, yet there is something unique: 2 old papaya trees (probably 5+ years old) which sporadically bear flowers (for fruits it might be harder since it's grown indoor, but no other options given lack of space and the tree's tropical native). Highly recommend "Banh Mi" (baguette) with tofu. I am not eating meat so cannot review other flavour. If you are a vegan, just tell them in advance so that they can remove butter. If you are a strict type of Buddhist--which is not so rare anyway, just saying--ask them to remove the fresh/pickled onion in advance. Some people do get allergic to fresh onion so this can also be a good tip for them. Due to covid, dining in might be very limited. Double check in advance. One special thing for veggie/vegan that I think important is that the owners are veggie too for many years so they know how to take care of the food for veggie/vegan "properly". I have no evidence to substantiate this thought. Nevertheless, I personally think it's rationale. read more

The other issue is that we wanted only water to drink and find out after we get our food it's bottled water. I was wondering why the bill was more than I expected. A bit of a let down. Glad I found this Vietnamese place. They have 4 small tables inside and two outside. Ordered the fresh vegetarian summer rolls. The peanut sauce is thinner than usual but still very tasty. The wonton soup was huge (comparable to 2 portions at a Chinese restaurant) and had a ton of flavor. Chicken in the pho was a little bland but the rest of the soup was delicious. The broth was excellent and it came with rice noodles, green onions, basil, cilantro, jalapeno , bean sprouts, lime, hoisin and siracha sauce. We also shared the pork banhmi sandwich. OMG. Amazing! I love their fruit teas too. I don't eat sushi but if you do I'm sure it is fresh and tasty. The owners are so kind and accommodating. They offer delivery thru Doordash and Grubhub.
