Quite a few vegan options on the menu, so I decided to try it out for some dinner takeout. I ordered the Bún Huế Chay (Spicy Vegan Noodle Soup) and it was ready 10 minutes later. Very generous portion of noodles, vegetables, broth, and toppings. First, the broth, since this is the focal point of pho: perfectly balanced, complex, and adequately spicy -- really satisfying. The vegetables were plentiful and varied (broccoli, carrots, kale), there were 3 different types of protein (soft tofu, bean curd skin, and veggie ham -- the ham was particularly excelent), and the toppings (bean sprouts, cabbage, basil, jalapeno, and fresh lemon) rounded it very nicely. For the above average price ($16.50 plus tax), the portion more than sufficed, and the balance of flavours were excellent. With Do Chay just next door competing in the veggie Vietnamese department, this competes pretty well. Definitely worth a try. read more

I was hesitant to try this place due to the previous reviews and only decided to go since my friend and I were in the area and really wanted Vietnamese food but didn't want to transit further. This is more of a 2.5/5 for me. Heads up, their door is just a huge plank of wood since I'm assuming it shattered LOL. The inside of the restaurant is huge, they even have an upstairs seating but the entire restaurant was like a weird ghost town, my friend and I and one other table were the only people seated that day. Of course they checked our COVID passports and let us sit anywhere since it was so empty. The prices were quite steep for what it was, my friend ordered the Oxtail Pho and she said it was nothing special, it was $18.50 (more expensive than Anh & Chi) and the portion was smaller too. I got the chicken and spring roll rice platter ($17.50) which is ridiculous considering I could get the same thing, even better for $12-14 in East Van. Nevertheless, it was pretty decent, I can say that their spring roll was really big and had lots of meat and shrimp in it which made up for it and the veggies were really fresh. I came here for a special occasion at lunch. Was hoping it was going to be amazing. It was a big disappointment. The food tasted horrible. Especially the garlic butter mussels. It was too salty and rubbery. We ate it anyways. But we should have sent it back. The sizzling steak and eggs was very bland. The appetizers Saigon platter came with chips, spring rolls, salad rolls and chicken wings. Chicken wings was tiny, salad roll and chips had no flavour. On the menu it saids chips come with a special homemade sauce but no special sauce was served. I had to ask for fish sauce to dip my spring rolls. Presentation and service was excellent but the food did not live up to the decor and the price. Too bad. I was hoping this will be my new spot to come to. But food is tasteless and overpriced. I will go back to Linh Cafe and Pho Central. Good luck. read more

Decent food with decent portions. Vegan Curry (4/5) There was a good amount of tofu, bean curd, vegetables and mushrooms, and the curry itself was flavourful. The baguette was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A solid curry. Tofu Salad Rolls (4/5) The two salad rolls were massive. The ingredients were fresh and I liked the peanut sauce. The crunchy bit in the middle was impossible to bite through though, which was weird. read more

I booked this restaurant through first table where you book the first seating for the night for a fee to get 50% the food menu. And unfortunately, I have to say this is my least favorite first table restaurant experience. The first thing I am a bit put off by was the requirement to purchase a beverage for each diner. This requirement was not listed amongst the details when booking. And was just displayed in the confirmation email I receive after the booking. If we have to pay a fee for booking first table already I don't feel there was a need for the restaurant to need the diners to buy a drink too. I was also very dissapointed with how they assign the seatings for people who booked through first table. It was a rainy cold day and the host advised that we had to be seated in the outdoor seatings because it was booked through first table. I expressed my discomfort she still insisted we be seated outdoor when the restaurant was clearly empty. The outdoor seating had heaters but it clearly was not a comfortable setting for dinning in the rainy weather as you still really feel the draft - luckily the server was much more accomodating and offered to move us indoors. For the service I have to say the server was exceptional and attentive but the food wasn't that special for a fusion Vietnamese restaurant nor traditional to say it is a Vietnamese restaurant. The spring roll we ordered was quite tiny - I'm glad I tried this place through first table cause I wouldn't have ordered regular price for it. And the pho was luke warm...I think it was because the noodles were not cooked with broth prior to serving so it made the broth cool down and the noodles were bunched together when it arrived at our table. Presentations wise the restaurant and food looks amazing but I feel really bad to say this restaurant didn't follow through. A lot things can definitely be improved to make this restaurant great and have higher traffic. read more

This restaurant is under new ownership and the manager (?) shared with me some exciting plans they have for introducing interesting vegan options packed with plant based protein. I frequent this neighbourhood and noticed this new pho restaurant and decided to give it a try. Situated in what used to be the WHITE Lounge & Kitchen, the decor of this place is substantially more upscale than any other Vietnamese place I have been to. The prices here for pho are very reasonable, I got their beef pho with extra side of noodles and my partner got the guac and chips with some spring rolls. The guac/chips and spring rolls were very satisfying and well done but the taste of the broth for the pho was a bit bland. I do personally prefer my pho soup base to be very flavourful. The service was also very good and all our needs were tended to in a timely manner. We will definitely be back in the near future to try the other dishes and will recommend this place to others. read more

The spicy papaya green mango salad was the best dish of meal with the perfect balance between savory, sweet, sour, spicy and light bitterness. We may come back to try other dishes. read more

We enjoyed this restaurant very much. Having heard that it has reopened under new management, three of us decided to try it out. We noted that the previous menu has undergone significant changes. Our waiter mentioned that new authentic Vietnamese dishes were introduced by the owner. I found it quite innovative that instead of a hand held menu, we were able to scan a bar code & read the menu on our phones We started out with salad rolls, veggie rolls & chicken wings. All dishes were excellent.The chicken wings were particularly crispy, nicely spiced & tasted fantastic with the home made sauce. The waiter explained to us that only free run chickens are used. Our vegetarian friend had the Vegan Rice Plate which included 3 different tasting soy based meats & soup. The texture & flavour was amazing I had the Bò Kho - Beef Stew which literally melted in my mouth. I would definitely recommend this dish. The Oxtail Pho was also very tender & tasty. The portion itself was quite generous, enough for two to enjoy. The Vegan Coconut Curry was one of the best we've ever had. The accompanying warm baguettes were soooo good. Leftovers nicely packed for us was enjoyed the following day, We sat in the large exterior terrace in a very comfortable booth while enjoying the bright sunny day. The inside is elegant & modern but we prefer the outdoors these days. Service was excellent throughout with lots of care given to cleanliness.Needless to say, our palates were quite satisfied by the sophistication of flavours experienced and we will definitely go back. read more

We were pleasantly surprised that the food was good, especially the spring rolls. However, the service could use some improvement and some of the staff seemed overwhelmed and confused at times. It took over 20 minutes just to get our drinks. We actually thought that they had forgotten about us. But once the drinks and the food finally came, it was a decent meal. Not the cheapest Vietnamese food, but it is a nice looking restaurant with bright interior. The only negative was the long wait for the food. Overall, hot mess, but good food. read more

I can't even begin to describe my experience with this place. I came here for dinner with relatively high expectations because this is a high end Vietnamese restaurant. However, the food here is not worth the price at all. The chicken wings were quite small and the flavour was not special. The corn was okay, would not recommend if you don't like the combination of tiny shrimp in your butter corn. We were most excited for the "Goat Pot", which was supposed to be a hotpot dish. The tiny pot costs $42 and it was way too salty. The flavour was underwhelming and way too overpriced. It wasn't even hot pot... it was more like a stew. We were thoroughly disappointed. The spring rolls were fine, nothing special compared to other more affordable Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely would not come back. The food was way too expensive for what it is. read more

Went here for Valentine's Day and needless to say, we will not be coming back. Such a horrible experience for such a special night! They only had a set menu that night - 2 types (one 3 course and one 5 course), which was not mentioned at all beforehand. We didn't mind at all as we were used to ordering set menus from other restaurants. We had one menu each and had a drink each to start. The drinks didn't come until after 15 to 20 minutes, together with the very small appetizer from the 5-course menu. After that, 45 minutes in and we still havent received anything. We were still waiting for the 2nd appetizer for the 5-course menu, and the first appetizer for the 3-course menu. The waitress was nice and apologized and said that the kitchen was having a hard time matching the timing because we had ordered different menus, that's why it was taking so long - which is of course absurd. After that, the champagne and oysters were supposed to come out (from the 5-course menu) but it was totally skipped and went straight to the entree - which we had waited for for around 35 minutes after we had the appetizer. Both dishes were also poorly cooked - definitely not something you would pay $85 for. When they were taking away our plates, we had reminded them that the oysters were missed and asked if it was coming at all (which we were assured it was). 45 minutes after that conversation and nothing - no oysters, not even desserts. At this point we had just asked for the bill. It was honestly a very horrible experience, especially on such a special day. The only good thing I can say is that the manager, Raven handled things like a champ. One by one, customers were having problems but he remained calm and still very personable. Given the amount of problems they were having, he handled things better than most managers would. read more

Restaurant and decor was nice but food is not good. Thought we'd try something new in the neighborhood but was pretty disappointed in the food. Pho was definitely not worth what they charged. Only good thing was the service but besides that, I wouldn't go back. Please have your chefs and owners taste your food before putting it on the menu. read more
