I saw this place online and just HAD TO try it. I always love trying vegan restaurants and I absolutely love Vietnamese food. First of all, their spring rolls are amazing! I love that they use rice paper instead of the usual wheat based wrapper. It's so crispy! Then I got the large BBQ soup. Our waitress recommended to get the clear noodles with that soup so I did. I love that this restaurant is vegetarian/vegan only! So exciting that I can look at the whole menu and feel good about choosing anything on it. It's not easy to find vegan or vegetarian pho in the city, so the fact that this restaurant offers it gets mad props. Tried a bunch of dishes here. The vermicelli with mock meat and spring roll was really good. The spring roll especially was so nice and crunchy and had a proteiny filling. The stir fry pho was ok - it didn't really taste like pho in terms of flavour. The pad thai had a nice spicy flavour which I enjoyed. The warm rice roll as app was really good. The restaurant was busy when we went in so there was only a cold spot by the door, but they immediately gave us a warmer spot inside when one became available - appreciate that service. I've been here countless times its always 5 star food. I really like the vegetarian selection. This place is ALWAYS busy and packed. I can see why. The servers only 2 of them have no way to cater to everyone needs plus the customers and UBEREats they have to handle. They are very overwhelmed. Owners tip you should have one Host who only does that so they can keep your traffic flow instead of angry ubers and patrons wanting to eat there. The food wait time can be anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour it really depends on what is being ordered. I've always passed by Saigon Lotus and seeing that I've only been to 1 other plant-based viet place and LOVED it...I was very excited to try this one out! I got their SPICY LEMONGRASS TOFU-AVOCADO salad roll. It was jammed with ingredients (although I didn't find it spicy) and it came with a delicious peanut sauce. I also ordered the CRYSTAL SPRING ROOTS SALAD, there were so many textures and crunchy refreshing veggies. I particularly liked the deep fried mushrooms in it! The service was very minimal, but still polite. You order by writing on the paper, the server brings a pot of tea, and you go up to the till to pay. I was hesitant at first since I couldn't imagine how good a vegetarian Viet place could be. Are they gonna give me a bunch of bean sprouts? But I was pleasantly surprised that it's actually SO GOOD! I'm not vegetarian but some days I just feel like brunch that's lighter on calories, delicious and this place nails it! I mean to me pho is for any time and my comfort food, not only reserved for after clubbing/late night out hangover food. Oh, and don't forget there's no line ups during brunch hours on weekends so a big win. I don't miss the meat at all and they offer more variety of veggies than typical pho. Came here today for lunch with friends. We had the mushroom and "meat" rice rolls, the stir-fry vermicelli and vegetable, and vegan combo 1 with various small dishes of tofu, seitan and vegetable. The portions are big and the prices low, and the atmosphere quite nice compared to the average Vietnamese pho restaurant decor. Stopped by here on the way to Kensington Market to get banh mi. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was fully vegan. I got the lemongrass tofu/seitan banhmi - the faux meat texture was very good and the flavors were spicy and tangy. The bread was also very good. My siblings got the crispy chicken and caramel tofu banh mis. My brother couldn't even tell that the chicken was faux. Also, the price is very reasonable at 7 CAD. The only downside to this restaurant was that service was very slow despite there being not many people at the restaurant. read more

ZERO STAR.... The server (the guy) has very poor manner and bad etiquette when approaching and talking to the customers. He was working on April 10 around 4 to 8 pm. Delicious. The freshness and quality of the pho and all the ingredients clearly showed. I loved the taste of the broth, the noodles, the mock meats, the rolls - everything! Prices are super reasonable for the portions (a small size is good for a meal), although I was slightly disappointed to see that the bowl was filled with mostly noodles and not much else. But again the taste was so good I can't really complain. The restaurant itself was quite spacious and quiet with relatively private booths, which was nice. Service was extremely quick and friendly: no prompting was needed for seating, water, or the menu; there was very little wait for food or the bill as well. So happy that their menu is very very long - and with a huge variety for it all being vegetarian! I will be back for sure. One of my friends is vegetarian and he was the one who invited us to this space. As a meat lover I was shocked when I saw the sign in the front that says"we ONLY server vegetarian & vegan food". Honestly I didn't have ANY expectations because I never could imagine I would survive any meal without meat. But I survived after eating here, even with a smile on my face. My friends got pad Thai with fake meat, after studying the menu for 20 minutes I still couldn't convince myself to get pad Thai or pho or butter chicken with fake meat so I went for vegetable wrap with avocado and fake crab. For dessert I ordered mango sticky rice. I couldn't taste any crab form the fake crab meat, it doesn't even have the texture of crab at all I don't know why it is even named fake crab meat, avocado is really fresh and they paired the wrap with amazing peanut sauce with real peanut chunks inside. It is four tiny pieces but It is also 3 cad ish so I couldn't ask for more. MANGO STICKY RICE, OH THAT MANGO STICKY RICE. I might never go back for their vegetarian food but I will def go back there for that dessert. It is better than the ones I had in Thailand. What a pleasant surprise. As someone who has to have some sort of chicken or beef incorporated in every meal, I can say that their pho here was delicious. I ordered their regular pho noodle soup and was very impressed. The broth was rich and flavourful and though just a taddddd bit sweet, it was easy to balance out by adding a bit of lime. My favourite part of this meal, however, was the assortment of tofu and "meats". I don't even know what I was eating but there was so much variety of flavour and texture in each bite that it made me completely forget that I was having a vegetarian meal. This place is great if you love tofu! Instead of meat everything is replaced by tofu. Even if they tried to make imitation meat you can clearly taste the tofu. I ordered a Vegan Ginger Caramel Chicken. The picture looked delicious but when I received the plate it was just basically tofu done 2 ways with rice. No vegetables. You would think since it's a vegetarian restaurant they would add some type of veggie with the plate. I have been to a few Asian vegetarian restaurants in the past and the chefs do such a great job with their dishes that even though it's made of tofu the texture still taste like chicken. Therefore, I have to say that I am not a fan of my Chicken dish. On the flip side my husband did order a Pho and it was good. The broth was spicy and tasty which is what he wanted. The noodles were over cooked though. They don't use the same rice noodles that are served in other Vietnamese restaurants and I really think if they did the soup would have tasted better. The pan fried pho is one of my favorite dishes of all time - packed full of veggies, tofu, seitan, and wide rice noodles it's 9/10 delicious & actually a fairly healthy balanced meal in addition to being delicious (they need to bottle that noodle sauce!! First up, the good: I ordered the bun bo hue, which was super flavorful, and very filling - all the meat replacements in there (tofu and seitan) were in abundant portions, they absolutely did not cheap out. Served alongside beansprouts, thai basil and lime. I also ordered yam tempura which was very lightly coated, it was served with a mayo based dipping sauce. The bad: I found 2 little hairs on my yam tempura. I don't want to give them a bad rating because of it, because it was an honest human mistake and they were happy to refund the tempura. Saigon Lotus' #22 Hue Style Pho satisfied an emergency pho craving I thought only my west end favs could do. Located at the top of a flight of steps (not accessible to my knowledge unfortunately), this vegetarian haven is otherwise cozy. As a solo diner on a Tuesday night, a 5-10 minute wait was all it took for me to recieve my order----as is customary in typical Asian restaurant tradition. Chow time! At first taste, I knew this would be my go-to spot for Pho in Toronto forever more. The bun bo Hue chay had that extra oomph from the spices and lemongrass, and is topped with the oh-so necessary rau ram (Vietnamese mint) that pairs so well with the flavours of the broth. Feeling greedy, I opted for the large order and was happy that an upsize meant more soup vs. more noodles---not because I'm a carb-hater, but because, c'mon, it's all about the broth! The fresh roll sauce was served 5 minutes after the actual rolls arrived, so we devoured them without the sauce. For our mains, we got Cauliflower and Potato curry (too much spicy tomato sauce), vegan pho, clear noodle crab and bbq meat pho (the broth wasn't that savoury, could have used more flavour), and the spicy lemongrass with seitan and crispy roll (was great, had chickpeas in the roll!). I ordered the sate ramen and I was still amazed by how the server come out holding the bowl like it was nothing even though the soup was basically leveling to the rim of the bowl. When I tried to carry it, I nearly dropped it because it was so hot so kudos to her! Overall, it was really good, it's hard t find places that sell good vegetarian dishes as many and delicious as Saigon Lotus. Having gone vegan as a Vietnamese took away many of the joys of my favorite viet dishes. However, I once again got to eat meals I've yearned for since I went veg. This would have to be hands down one of the best vegetarian places I've ever had the pleasure of trying. With vegetarian plates on par with any regular dishes, you'll be delighted to find fresh and delicious meals here. To top it all off, lunch here is a steal and you can eat happily here for around $10. This unassuming little gem tucked away in Chinatown is a diamond in the rough. I wish I could go here everyday and if you have the chance bring all your vegetarian friends here to have their expectations blown away.
