Came here for the first time on Mother's Day Sunday. The place were packed but luckily we only waited for 10 mins. We were in rush and this place definitely not for anyone who wants to come in and out fast. Waited for the server for 20 mins until I had to waited to the front desk to take our order. The food were good and didn't take long . Apparently they didn't have enough servers and the servers who worked were not young anymore. I could only count 1 young server. As much as I want to support elderly as a worker, the management should also consider put more support on the day when they expect more customers. Or else the elderly workers could have health problems because of work. Other than that, food were okay. read more

Come here for pho and other goodies. I tried number 21 and number 107. Didnt know number 107 existed until yesterday. The Overall flavor and amount was good. They gave only two pieces of lettuce maybe four pieces would have been better for each spring roll. Pho I've had before here and it's good. The environment is calm most of the time. The severs are nice but like any vietnamese pho place they are quick to ask for orders. I didnt even get to see the menu yet. Didnt ruin a resturant experience though because the food was still good. Dagger Shaped Metal Shrapnel found in my Pho Dac Biet wtf?! When my Pho Dac Biet was brought out, the broth tasted salty AF. After squeezing some lime juice and adding soybean sprouts, it still tasted salty, but, calmer. However, here's where I got my surprise I was somewhat close to finishing my meal, and bit down on something hard and shiny. At first, Mom and I thought it was probably beef bone, and so she had me pour the rest of my broth into her bowl to look for it. Sure enough, it was there! Shaped like a mini dagger, we thanked our lucky stars that I didn't end up swallowing it. The assistant manager came over, and I explained to him what I found. At first, he didn't think much of it, and when I picked it up, and gave it to him, it pierced his finger too, and that's when he realized "Oh, shiet, that is real metal." He ran back to the kitchen to inform the cooks. When he came back out, and explained that the metal shrapnel was probably from the pho packaging, and ended up sincerely apologizing for the incident, and offered to comp my meal. It was a nice gesture on their part, however, after that incident, it just left a really bad taste in my mouth. Afterwards, I can really then taste the loads of msg from the salty broth, and ended up getting a soda from Taco Bell later. Overall, I'm never coming back here again. I can only hope and pray that this doesn't happen to anyone else dining there. read more

Saigon Eden can be best described as mediocre amongst the hundreds of vietnamese restaurants you will find in the San Gabriel Valley. I believe one of the only reasons why it's still popular is because of its location on the very busy Main Street. People probably also return out of habit due to it previously being Pho 79. The prices are average but the portions here really suck. I could excuse small portions if the quality made up for it, but alas, Saigon can't even live up to that.. The food isn't particularly bad, but it really is just "meh." I know if I drove even a couple blocks in any direction, I could find much more flavorful dishes at another restaurant. read more

They have a good fish sauce which anchors a lot of the dishes. It's the perfect salty sweetness that goes well with everything. Banh Hoi or vietnamese compressed vermicelli noodles is one of my favorite dishes. I get it with egg rolls, nem nuong and grilled beef. The noodles perfectly soak up that fish sauce. When I come with a group, we usually share the Bo Tai Chanh which is Slice Tender Beef with Lemon Juice and Peanut. It's sort of a tartare that I absolutely love. My friend said the Bun Bo Hue is excellent here as well. The shaken beef at $9.50 is probably the cheapest I've seen it, but I haven't ordered it. I don't know of a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the area that goes beyond your typical vermicelli, pho, and rice dishes to also serve up banh xeo and banh hoi. There were a lot of options for Vietnamese cuisine on Saigon Eden's menu! They also have pho thit nuong -- which is charboiled pork, which I found intriguing to serve with pho. Nonetheless, it was delicious. The broth tasted beefy, aromatic, and everything a pho broth should be. The pork had nice charred grilled marks on it and there was plenty of pork in the pho. The banh xeo here is also a heaping serving that comes with all of the accoutrements -- lettuce, veggies, fish sauce, etc. The batter was thick and crispy at the same time. Service was good, although you may feel a bit rushed if you come near closing time. I definitely recommend this place for Viet food and will be back to try more on their extensive menu! read more

Yelp 100 2017 Challenge - 57/100 This review is long overdue - I have been many times to PHO 79 which is now called Saigon Eden. Foodwise, I always get the pho go (chicken pho) because of value. I get lots of noodles, two small eggs, and lots of chicken meat for low price. Even to-go is awesome. I don't recommend the fried rice and the beef pho is okay. Called for 4 orders to go. When I picked up I was shocked how heavy the two bags were. Whenever I order to go the amount of food always seems less than what you would get sitting down. I understand food cost has gone up along with everything else, but I was shocked to get my special large bowl of pho. Tons of fresh veggies, good quality meat which they didn't skimp on, and still tasted as good as I remembered. You never forget your first. This is the first place I ever tried Pho (over a decade ago) so it holds a special place in my heart and tummy, and, at with such great prices, my wallet, too. The name has changed, and the place looks different, but I understand it's the same owners and the same wonderful food that I remember/ It's hard not to order the same rare steak Pho every time - but the menu is extensive and so far I've liked everything I've tried. The large pho is Impossible to finish alone (bring a friend), but hard to resist since it's only a buck more than the small size. I recommend the curry - either with rice or Banh Mi (french bread.) There's a tiny parking lot right behind the restaurant. Chances are it'll be full, but worry not, the structure behind it is also free. Three cheers for free parking! read more

My favorite Pho place!! I went to this place when I was in my teen years with my family, in the early 1980's. Back then it was known as Pho 79 & it was located across the street where the movie theater is now. Fast forward to year 2022, I've my own kids in there 20's and I take them here regularly when they come home from college. Love this place, I see the owner's son ( I think) is in charge of the restaurant. Great family restaurant with excellent food & fast service. This is my all time favorite pho restaurant. This is the first place I tried pho when I started working in Alhambra. Ever since trying this pho I fell in love. I always tried other restaurants because I didn't live in Alhambra but no where every compared to this one. The broth is so flavorful. Sometimes I just get a noodle pho but other times I add well done meet and it's amazing. In the hotter weather I try what I call the salad but it's vermicelli noodles with lettuce cucumbers and 2 egg rolls and Omgggg it is amazing. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is perfect. Right between strong and I want to go to sleep tonight. The service is amazing and the food always comes out so fast. The prices are really good too. The only gripe I would have is that if you do take out the choice of size is large. They started doing this during pandemic. That's not good and pushing folks to pay more for a large size order for bowl sizes, pho and other dishes that would usually have different sizes when you eat in . I really question the hygiene of this place, especially after COVID. They were doing both outdoor and indoor dining. Tons of flies flying inside and outside the restaurant. I ordered the medium rare beef pho. Upon arrival, I noticed a dead fly floating on the soup. I flagged a waiter to tell him the issue. He looked at it, gave me a shrug, and then took it back to the kitchen. I presume he doesn't speak English, which is totally understandable in SGV, but I would think he should know how to say a simple "sorry" at the very least. Instead, I just got a "oh well" type of shrug Five mins later, he returned with a "new" bowl. Obviously the fly wasn't there anymore, but I notice none of the beef was "medium rare" anymore, which lead me to think they didn't remake a new bowl for me, but instead just scooped out the content from the old bowl into a new bowl instead, causing my medium rare beef to become fully cooked. There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants to choose from in SGV, this place was just average prior to this experience, but now I'm not planning to return anymore. Not a huge fan. I love pho, and have eaten pho or ban mi in more than 200 places from Boston to Vegas to LA over the last 10 years. It's HARD to get wrong! But honestly, the service is slow with inattentive waiters that almost act like they're doing you a favor. The smoothies are way too sweet. The spring rolls are BEYOND greasy..... like a pool of burger fat from a grill. Nasty! The pork ban mi tasted..... fake. It lacked any distinct flavor that I'm accustomed too. Maybe it was an old sandwich? The curry with French bread was decent. My kids finished it off immediately. That's 3-4 stars for that one dish. The Pho is fine. Nothing spectacular, but after tasting everything else, it took away from my appreciation. Don't hate it, but not a fan, and will not come back. read more

This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Doing food family style, expect to share large platters of plain, down home and well executed Vietnamese food. They are really known for their pho and their rice soups. Also, definitely try a round or two of the steamed garlic mussels. I've been coming here for several years even before the name change. The staff has always remained the same - same people, same great attitude and service. English may be a challenge for some, but overall, they're such nice and attentive people. As for the food, it's pretty dang authentic and good.
