Definitely one of the best pho places I've been to. They were out of egg rolls and boba but no big deal. They have so many vegetarian and vegan options which is really nice. The peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls was easily the best peanut sauce I've ever had. The woman who served up was super friendly and checked to make sure no one was vegan before putting the order in. I usually don't finish pho but I did finish my food this time. Doesn't taste authentically Vietnamese. Granted I have not tried out their entire menu, so far, it's been disappointing. Coming from having lived in a city with a large Vietnamese American population, this is by far the least authentic in taste. Vietnamese food is all about flavoring. We use lots of spices and herbs. This is very much like a Panda Express for Vietnamese food. No basil provided and if you ask for it, the staff seemed unhappy to accommodate. The portions are also very inadequately small. Once I ordered a vermicelli dish with grilled pork, the order came with only a few thin slices of meat -- 1/10 of an inch thick by 5 inches long...two pieces of that is barely enough for a sea of noodles. Their fish sauce vinaigrette is also lackluster. It doesn't have lime juice, at least not freshly squeezed. And no bits of garlic, or enough chilly sauce mixed in. I've also tried their chicken pho which was also very bland. Maybe they make it differently for to go? But it has very small quality of chicken in the soup. For the high price for their soup and vermicelli dish, you would think they'd provide a little more meat. So, I'll give it one more try and that's it. Maybe it's just their inconsistency that's a problem...maybe. read more

Came here years ago and was disappointed in the food, sticky floors and tables and lack of authenticity. Figured they were still in business as they are still open. Well, they are still open. Floors are still sticky, table really sticky. No tripe, no tendon for the Pho which was horribly bland. No veggie/shrimp/pork wraps. Vietnamese iced coffee was fair at best. Wow, that was good! Busy lunch spot here on W. 11th but plenty of tables. I remember when it was a sandwich shop years back. We had the rare beef pho and grilled pork bahn mi sandwich. In my opinion, this is the best pho in town. It's rich and flavorful with the usual toppings; cilantro, sprouts, jalapeño and lime. The beef was pink in the middle when it came to the table. Done by the time I finished- so good The bahn mi was a little disappointing. The flavor was good, but it didn't have a lot pork and the pickled vegetables didn't have much flavor. Hands down best pho in Eugene. They have some odd hours but the food is always amazing. I get the chicken pho and the shrimp wrap with peanut sauce. The gentleman working always do a great job of getting the food out fast. They are open during Covid times and you can call ahead or order for to go only. The pho is the most consistent in flavor in town. The broth is very rich with flavor and not too salty like the other places in town. Ummm...I've been dreaming of a Vietnamese place that pays this much attention to its pho. Pho to me has always been a pass, I never really enjoyed, but I think that Saigon Cafe may have broken through my taste buds. I don't know how to say this, but I'm pretty certain they put magic in there broth. It hit my lips and put a spell on me, I was instantly whisked away on an culinary adventure, as if I was riding a star (anise) through ancient country side of Vietnam. I was simply delighted with every bite, every sip of broth unraveling another layer of flavor. Needless to say I am a fan of their pho. I could have been completely and utterly satisfied with just my pho experience, but guess what I did? I indulged. I indulged in what could single handily be the best Banh Mi I've ever had in Eugene, if not Eugene all or Oregon, if not all of Oregon, thee entire west coast. Yes I said it, this little inconspicuous Vietnamese cafe, is hiding big flavor, don't sleep on it. My favorite is the spicy pork, followed by the tofu, yes that's right the tofu. The co-workers at Saigon are nice, helpful and it fun to talk to them and see where they're from exactly because I've been to Vietnam. I asked the chef to make me some dishes for me to try so he brought out fried rice combo, pot stickers, spicy pork, and chicken chow fun. It was all very good. This was my first visit and I'm only judging by the two items I ate. The Vietnamese Fried Chicken Wings and the pork Chow Fun. First the chicken wings were only $5.99 and were fairly large. They were not breaded but the skin was crispy. I really enjoyed them with the fish sauce dip that came with it. The chow fun was a large portion and included a decent amount of pork. Flavor wise it was fresh but did lack in the flavor department. It's just not something I would order again as it's just to plain tasting. read more

It needed more pickles, pickled radish, cilantro, etc. It missed the mark of a really good banh mi with its deluge of different flavors. I am remiss for not reviewing this location sooner. We have been here twice now and both times it has been great. We have tried a variety of dishes such as Chicken Lemongrass, Pork Fried Rice, Chow Mein Combo, Veggie and Pork Egg Rolls, Pot Stickers, and of course some Thai Ice Tea. Ordered the house special pho, which is brisket, flank and meatball. Also ordered the spicy pork banh mi sandwich. First time to this location, have been wanting to try for some time. With 15 or so tables, some a two top others four, there always seems to be space to accommodate a lunch rush. Today I show up about 12:15 right in the heart of the rush and still had a table quickly. I would consider myself a great fan of Pho, having it in some of the most unlikely of places, like Kalispell Montana. Not the first place you think of. Nonetheless the portion size and flavor was accurate. Not the heartiest of broths, but still quite delicious. I would come here for the pho alone. I then got my banh mi. Although the flavors were there, to me it was a bit tragic. The bread was over cooked to the point that when I took a bite, the outer crust literally exploded into many dust size particles. Some may like this, just not for me. For me the banh mi was too dry, the flavors were good, but because the bread was so dry it took away that sumptuous flavors that I have come to expect from a well executed sandwich. I think all of this is fixable, and maybe I just got a bum sandwich. I would try this place again as I do love a good soup and sandwich. Love this place! Owner is the chef and he's so funny and takes great care of his customers. He isn't afraid to bus tables and loves getting feedback about his dishes. I find it to lack salt for my taste but it's perfect for my family and I can always add seasonings from the table condiments. They have hot chili oil, just ask and they'll bring you some! Delicious! We came to the UPS store next door and our love for Vietnamese food made us stop in for a quick bite. I'm so glad we stopped. I will definitely be back. I can sum up Saigon Cafe with just three letters: W O W (+!) This place truly took me completely by surprise. I wouldn't have even known about its existence had it not been for my fellow coworkers. After hearing all of them praise the joint like it was the second coming of Christ and finally being sold by the overly smug/confident look a co-worker shot me, I decided to mosey on over and try it out. At first not much met the eye. It's simple and clean, with wooden tables filling a medium sized dining hall. It has big front windows, allowing for plenty of natural lighting to brighten up the interior. The few big green plants blended in nicely to accentuate to overall decor. After being politely greeted by the kid working at the counter, I sat down, browsed the menu, and quickly settled on the lemongrass chicken bánh mì (think a sub sandwich of sorts). It came highly recommended. When the food showed up (which was fast) it caught me off guard. Not only did it look picture perfect, but it screamed fresh and flavorful. Big thin cuts of jalapeno bedded on top of vivid orange shoots of carrots and steaming glazed chicken. I had one of those strange sensations where you could literally smell how the food was going to taste. Dang, was I in for a treat. The bread, which I'm normally super critical of, was lightly toasted and flakey. It served as the perfect delivery platform for the tangy and tasteful "meat" of the sandwich. The chicken itself was cut into small pieces and lightly glazed over with a crisp lemongrass sauce. The zest was amplified by small pinches of cliantro. The amazing part was that with all of the included vegetables, the combination of flavors just added to one another. But here's the most mind shattering detail of my lunch at Saigon Cafe (and ultimately why it earns a fifth star). How much do think such a delightful lunch would normally cost? 10 bucks? Maybe 14? 5.99$ ... Just 5 freaking 99!!! Mind = blown. So yes, this place exceeded every and all expectations. Thoroughly. And yes, it's on the outlandishly far side of west Eugene. But holy moley, if you pass up at least trying this place one time, you're doing yourself a HUGE disservice. A HUGE one. read more
