Saigon Café sits in a strip mall next to target and across the street from Walmart. Place was crazy slow on a Friday at 530. 1 other individual in the entire place. opted for two bon mi's and some Vietnamese chicken wings. Wings were actually really legit. I could tell I loved the oil they fryed them in and perfect temperature and cook time. Sauce was pretty mediocre for fish sauce wings. Served with some sweet chili sauce. Bon mi was not bad. I would give it probably a 3 stars in taste. Mainly because I kept tasting this weird flavor and didn't realize it was pate until halfway through. I am not huge on pate but I can handle it. I rechecked the menu, this was listed -- my mistake. Rest of the flavors were good and the price was very reasonable. Waiters were super nice and friendly. Went for the Bahn Mi. Had the spicy pork and grilled chicken. Both were a bit greasy. The bread and veggies were fresh and good though more veggies would have been better. Also ordered the veggie egg roll which was greasy as well. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

I only gave four stars because it could use a good scrubbing and I had a difficult time getting around in my wheelchair. But let me tell you, this place kicks butt. Great new restaurant. There are a few pho places in town but I'd say with the exception of one other place (Da Nang food cart) none of them are as authentic as Saigon Cafe. We had the pho and the broth was rich with plenty of noodles and beef. They are also reasonably priced and the servers are very attentive and polite. I'd definitely go again! read more

Wonderful service and delicious Vietnamese food. The boyfriend and I ended up ordering the potstickers as an appetizer, the house special Bahn Mi and two orders of their delicious House Pho. Our go-to pho place is usually Pho the Good Times, but since Saigon Cafe is closer to where we live, we decided to give it a try instead, and WE'RE GLAD WE DID. The Pho broth was very flavorful along with the standard addition of basil, lime, sliced jalapeño and bean sprouts. The baguette of the Bahn Mi was delicious and tasted freshly baked, stuffed with all fresh ingredients. It was also quite large. The potstickers were also excellent. At the end of our meal, the waiter even brought out a complimentary dessert for each of us. Delicious food! I love the simplicity of this place. The menu is just what you need from a cafe/bistro restaurant. Typically, when I find a restaurant I like, I wind up having a couple of favorites. But with Saigon Cafe everything is great. Best of all, and unlike most new restaurants, you still get table service. It is so nice not to have to go to the counter to order...then go back if you want something else. The service is very friendly and efficient. Edit***: I'm sad to say that after a year of loving this place (previous review 5 stars) I don't plan to stop by often any more. The young guy who replaced Hi is absolutely terrible at service and orders and just plain rude. The last FOUR times I've been in something has gone wrong (forgot our appetizer, no refills, told my coworker her order was lame, scoffed at splitting the check, hung up on me when I placed a to-go order and just has a generally bad attitude). Its really disappointing because I'm super forgiving (7 years in food service) and love the food and owners here. I even talked to the kid about it when I was in last time, explaining how rude he was and all he did was smirk and shrug. No apology or anything. My recommendation to the owner would be have a serious sit-down with this kid if you want patrons like myself. I wont be coming back any time soon. :( Original review: Finally!!! We were delighted to find Saigon Cafe when other W. Eugene restaurants were closed. It has yummy, inexpensive food that feels fresh and authentic. After potsticker appetizers, I had the Bun vermicelli w lemongrass chicken and fresh salad greens and my husband asked for Banh Xeo crepe that will be added to the menu soon. We were happy with our food and the personal, friendly service. I was impressed that the menu has several vegan options, so we plan to come back to check out the veggie pho and banh mi sandwiches. Well the never ending journey to find decent Pho in Eugene... Happy to say this place hits the mark. I have to admit, walking in I feared for my experience a little when I didn't smell the wafting aroma of vats of beef soup for the Pho and rather more of a place that served a lot of fried goods and missing the point in serving Vietnamese food. As I sat down and feared for my meal experience a little, I saw the back staff as the kitchen is slightly exposed and I felt a little bit more assured. Most places in Eugene that serve Pho have made me raise and eyebrow and wonder if there is someone who has a authentic recipe passed down or someone who opened a pack of instant Pho and threw some sparse pieces of meat in. Going back to the overall atmosphere for a second, the place isn't a romantic getaway or a place you would take your in-laws to impress them, but if you want a place that is put together and clean with attentive and friendly staff, this is the place. The servers and staff were quick to replace things and the wait time was quick. Now, back to the point, the Pho. Some people will immediately throw in Hosin and Sriracha, but taste the soup first! Now a lot of places that I've been to in Eugene either are overly sweet, taste a little off, but this one seemed to hit a great note. Is it the best? I would have liked the soup to have a bit more body, a bit more beefy essence to it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I do admit, I wished the meat was slightly pink indicating the meat was place into the bowl and cooked through the broth, tripe and tendon. All things that you would see normally in the "Special", but considering Eugene's market and taste I don't blame them. I did selfishly want a little bit more noodles, which they do give you a ample amount, more than most places. Without taking points against them, I did wish they had the vietnamese coffee, and the banh xeo, but again, I wouldn't think people in the area would even order these items. No points taken off here. Bottom line: Am I going here again? Yes. Would I get the Pho again? Yes. Am I going to try their other items with high expectations, Yes. My sons and I were out braving a Black Friday and we were getting hungry after fighting all of those crowds. We fired up Yelp and decided to go to the closest place with 4 stars or more. It happened to be the Saigon Cafe. We walked in and were immediately greeted and sat down. We were brought menus and waters quite promptly. Within a few minutes we placed our order. And in about 10 minutes, we all had our food on the table. The portions were quite large in size, especially for the price we paid. And, it was delicious as well. Friendly service. Low price. Whatever flavors they used with the chicken just didn't seem to pair well the rest of the bowl compared to what I've had at other restaurants. OMG finally a place that can make fried rice that actually has flavor!!! Kowloons by far use to be the best, but now that they have new owners nope not anymore their food is bland. Met up for dinner here without much expectation or knowledge of the place but was impressed with the pho. Ordered the rare beef pho which had a nice broth with just the right amount of ginger and saltiness without being overpowering. The pho came in a pretty large bowl with a generous portion of beef strips all of which were melt in your mouth tender. On the side you are given the usual lime, mint leaves, jalepeno, and bean sprouts all for only $9.50. I've seen Saigon Cafe so many times when I go to the Target shopping center and I'm sorry it took me so long to finally give it a try. This restaurant delivers quick meals but packed with flavor and I can't wait to go back. I had their lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl and shared the coconut shrimp appetizer with my boyfriend. The shrimp we delicious and perfectly priced. The vermicelli bowls were fresh and a nice large portion. The only thing I didn't like about the vermicelli bowl was how garlicky it was. There wasn't any lemongrass flavor to the chicken and I left with my mouth overpowered by garlic. Other than that I did like the other flavors and while service was a bit slow considering there was only one other table of two, we enjoyed our meal and left satisfied. I really want to come back to try their pho and their sandwiches.
