This was a good find on our visit to Lake Travis. The Tomka soup with pork was my favorite. A well made soup with a side of rice and Pork and Shrimp Rolls. Very good lunch special! I got the lunch combo with a spring roll, pho steak and jasmine tea. My date got the Thai Basil chicken (it has two peppers but it's not that spicy). We got the steamed dumplings as an appetizer. Everything was excellent! The spring roll was lacking but I'm not complaining. The avocado smoothie was excellent, as well as the strawberry tea. If you are from California or Houston where you can get GREAT Viet food you will likely be disappointed. I would probably give it 4 stars because the food and service were both good. However. There was a lady sleeping an old mattress with her baby in plain view of customers right next to cash register. I sooooo much want to give this place 5 stars. The food is excellent. The service is pleasant and friendly. The cleanliness...sigh. Dang! The food is just so darn good! I ordered the egg rolls that are not on the menu -- delicious. Then I ordered the pineapple curry with shrimp which was a fantastic culinary experience in my mouth--so delicious. It tasted fresh, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, the flavor was truly outstanding. My husband ordered the Pad Thai which he thoroughly enjoyed and I tasted and thought it was very good as well. My daughter ordered Tom Yum and we all liked it. Oh, and she ordered a Pineapple Strawberry smoothie which was fantastic! However, the overall cleanliness was just not there and it's significant enough to bring this to a 3 star. Someone from the back came out and sat down to eat and was touching his bare feet. Perhaps he was not from the kitchen--that could definitely be the case and I hope it is the case. Also, the bathroom needs cleaning. I want to see this restaurant have great success because it is a family restaurant and they produce fantastic food. Cleanliness is such an easy thing to overcome. We have eaten here 4 times and it has been fantastic every time! The owners and servers are very courteous and helpful. The Vietnamese food is consistently well prepared with great flavor. I get pho the majority of the time, but that is because I am addicted to the stuff. I will also say that even though I gave this place 4 stars overall in the area it deserves 5 stars. There just isn't very much asian food out here in the hill country. I also need to specify that I haven't tried the Thai food here. This place has a small kitchen so if it is crazy busy sometimes the food can take longer than normal, but it is definitely worth it. I'm so glad we found this place this evening! I ordered the pork dumplings as an appetizer and the pineapple curry for my entree. The pork dumplings came 6 on a plate and were fried to perfection. The pineapple curry was a little too watery and sweet for my preference but still delicious nonetheless. There were generous slices of chicken, wedges of tomato, and a lot of bean sprouts. The portion size was large so I was only able to finish about half. No complaints there! Definitely check this place out if you're in the neighborhood. Fresh and authentic!! Sometimes very busy with takeout but worth the wait! My favorites are the Tom Kha soup with tofu, Green Curry with Tofu and the Spicy Lemongrass Vermicelli Bowl with Tofu. We got take out pad Thai spicy and basil fried rice. We ordered the pad Thai made spicy. Terrible. Pad Thai was not spicy and instead was bland and flavorless and had a few pieces of chicken. The portion was much smaller than expected for the price. I could go to my regular place down in south Austin and get a much better quality dish for about $1 less. They instead made the basil fried rice spicy, which completely threw off the flavor profile and we cannot eat it. She was very excited to try a new place that we haven't been to before and I finally gave in, that was a mistake. Guess we'll just go back to our regular go to options for Thai. Great hole in the wall type place. Can't really tell there's a Vietnamese restaurant where it's located honestly. It's easily missed. The pho is great. The broth is flavorful and you could tell they used star anise which is a sign of a good pho bowl!!! They don't offer a "pho dac biet" which is the universal pho bowl of brisket, round eye and flank with meatballs. You can order a brisket and round eye steak bowl then meatballs on the side which is an extra $3. The Tom Yum soup is pretty much homemade. Something close to what I'd expect from my moms home cooking. They have a mamas Tom Yum noodle soup that I'll have to try next time! The spring rolls were meh. Nothing to call home about. They could add more life to it. Will be back to try more dishes. For sure is a mom and pop shop that cooks with love. My parents live a stone's throw away, and I was excited to see a new (to me) place to check out, especially a Vietnamese place! The appearance is simple - functional, but not fancy. However, the service is terrific, and the food is excellent. The server was very helpful in suggesting vegetarian options for us. Been here twice now, and I cannot complain. I was so excited to hear about a vietnamese restaurant opening in this neck of the woods that I went right out to get me a slice of the proverbial pie. First time around I ordered pho and was blown away by the quality and quantity of a bowl of pho for just $6 and change. Also, I love that this place uses cloves/star anise in their broth. It gave the pho a very authentic feel and taste. Second time around I ordered a thai lemongrass soup with noodles, also very reasonably priced and tasty. Overall I want this family-owned joint to make it. They are the nicest people who truly care about food and service, and will answer all your questions and let you really customize your order depending on your taste. I am genuinely perplexed by these four and five star reviews. I'd really like to see this place succeed but there are many things that need to be addressed. There are about 14 tables in the restaurant, and when we walked in 8 of them needed to be bussed. One was being used as a business desk for the restaurant. Three were cleaned during our 30 min visit. One gentleman, who was very pleasant, was taking care of the entire dining area, seating customers, taking orders, bringing food, manning the register, and bussing the tables. His pace was slow and it seemed like he really needed help. A tiny, makeshift room was being used as a playroom right off the dining room presumably for the owners child. I ordered the Pad Thai. It is a good dish to use as a litmus test since I've had so much of it at so many restaurants in the past. Unfortunately, it was the worst I've experienced. The sauce was thin, an off color pink, not spicy at all and quite vinegary. I ate the shrimp and bean sprouts but found the sauce too distasteful. The green tea was fine. My son ordered the chicken fried rice. He like it. I found it very bland, save for a subtle taste of garlic, and not fried in a way I would expect, the rice was completely white and didn't appear to have been stirred around in a pan with anything other than oil. It was slightly over-oily. I'd like to be more positive, but these folks are far away from a good restaurant experience and flavorful Asian cuisine. read more
