most dishonest business i ever dealt with. Sent me additional bill with no warning or proof of disclosure. Broke my driveway with dumpster, broke my lawn furniture. Neighborhood smelled like pot from their lunch brake. Bill Salem would not return my 4 calls and threatened legal action if i didn't pay his fictitious add fee. Received a quote for windows and siding back in December. Went in on a Friday in early February to talk to the owner about it and pick out materials. Told him we'd think about it over the weekend and contact him Monday. Monday rolls around, I call. Owner has left for vacation. Leave a message telling him I wanted a quote on a different window manufacturer and call again the next week. Find out that he's left town for a few months and will contact me when he gets back. Apparently no one else can do anything there. So fast forward to the beginning of May. Call and tell them I already bought the windows elsewhere since I wanted to get them on order with a long lead time and no one at Sahlems could bother quoting me, but wanted to proceed with the siding quote. I get a call back 2 weeks later from some lackey telling me that the owner feels "uncomfortable" doing the siding because he isn't doing the windows, and feels the windows will leak. Whatever, maybe if you bothered to return my numerous calls or had someone in the office competent enough to answer my questions, this could have worked out differently. Now I'm scrambling for a siding contractor. Thanks for nothing Bill. read more

This business has been around as long as I have lived in West Seneca, many years. The owner is also a resident of our fine town. I've had two interactions with them and both have been handled with ease and professionalism. The Great October Storm. A notable event in most of our lives. A portion of my gutters was damaged by falling branches.I did not contact Sahlems initially because I thought the job was way too small. Contacted every other repairman in this area and am still waiting for callbacks/pricing, etc. One of the Sahlem installers lives on my street. I stopped him and asked if Sahlems could help with the repairs. Crew was there the very next day. Job done. A whopping $120.00 got my gutters repaired/replaced. Fast forward to the recent high wind activity we've been having. Parts of my soffit and trim work were blown to Kansas. Didn't go the circuituous route this time. Called Sahlems immediately. Called up for a replacement roofing quote; tried to explain that due to recent tree damage I was looking to replace a full roof, no structural damage, just one decking sheet in addition to shingle replacement. Not an insurance quote. A full roof replacement. Sahlems insisted on telling me they don't do any type of structural repairs and don't do insurance quotes... I tried to explain but the guy just cut me off and talked all over me. What a joke of a business. If a company cannot take the time to understand what a customer is asking for then it really does not bode well. read more

recently we contacted Sahlem's Roofing & Siding for the estimate on our roof. At first everything went fine: the representative showed up in few days, there was no need for us to be home. After that we waited for the estimate for about 2 week,s and got an outrageous price: $44,000 for the 3000 sq ft roof! I was speechless for a while: before that we had 3 other estimates from different companies: $17,000 and $26,000. My guess is that Sahlem's just didn't want the job. I'm very disappointed with them because Sahlem's Roofing was highly recommended by my co-worker. I still can't believe they were serious about price... read more

All I needed was new gutters and downspouts on my garage but I couldn't get anyone to call me other than Sahlem's and one other company whose estimate was nearly twice as much as Sahlem's. I needed a roof and got 6 estimates. Salem was not the cheapest or the most expensive, but The estimate was done by Gary Dubel of Sahlem's. He explained everything to me, and gave me honest, sensible answers for my questions. I have been in this house a long time and built 3 additions to my home, I also put on four roofs, Every addition needed a new roof to match. I also had 4 large skylights to be installed. I received a call the day before, asking If I was ready to have to roof done, I agreed. a massive crew entered my neighborhood the next morning. The gardens all around the house and the windows were all protected with plywood, canvas was then draped around the house and the tear off began. Systematically they tore off all the roofs and had crew members removing all the debris simultaneously. Everything moved like clockwork. shingles delivered, gutters formed. Ice shield applied every where and problem areas given special consideration. The shingling went well and quickly, then the whole area cleaned. I was told there may be a few missed nails around so look out for them. The roofing job was extremely well done. Two days later, a young man appeared at my home stating he was there to power wash the house. He was from Sahlem"s. Did a great job. My only suggestion to the workers is that they have a few buckets handy to dump their cigarette butts in. I highly recommend you include Sahlem's roofing in your list of estimate. read more

Bill was quick to give me an estimate, which was lower than several other companies, and said he could have the job started in a week and completed in a day. His crew showed up and as scheduled and really did a good job on my roof and gutters. They did however drop debris on my weeping cherry tree and low voltage light in my garden breaking both, pretty badly. They covered the cost of the tree by writing off some additional materials but when I mentioned the broken light, Bill began yelling at me, stating, "This is why I don't do this kind of stuff!" I asked him, "What kind of stuff?" And he replied that they TRY to protect things and cover them as best they can but he was "NOT SORRY" the items were broken. He basically blamed ME because the size of my job and that it was a full tear-off. Bill was so rude and I feel he spoke to me the way he did simply because I'm a female. He yelled at me, accusing me of "nickel and diming him," when I was simply trying to request he take responsibility for items at my home that his crew destroyed. Bill was not willing to do that and insisted he "did not want to argue," yet it seems that is exactly what he wanted to do. Standard work, that you can literally get ANYWHERE, but very poor customer service. For that I would go elsewhere. A customer/homeowner should expect items to be damaged/broken nor be held responsible for items damaged/broken during contacted work on his/her home. read more

Excited! Extremely professional company. I am completely satisfied with the siding work. The whole process was smooth, no glitches, mistakes or problems. Highly supervised crew. They were always on time and cleaned up every day. I must admit that my house looks better than I imagined. Crew worked together without disruptions. This company bent over backwards to please me. A big plus is that they made sure my neighbors yard was protected and cleaned up also. I get so many compliments on my house and proudly recommend them. I had the same experience when they did my roof. I also had doors installed with locks. When they are finished, you won't have to clean up a thing. Purchased our home that had a total roof replacement done one year before we purchased it. The warranty didn't transfer over due to Sahlem's fine print. We were constantly finding shingles that flew off, and upon our own visual inspection, many were loose and flapping up with even minor winds. First phone call we were told "nothing is wrong with that roof, the previous owner paid for every bell and whistle we offer." A few phone calls later, they sent an employee out, and he told us they did a poor job (their own employee), and said the owner will want to see it for himself. They told us he'd call within three days or so... he never did. Although we understand they had no legal obligation to assist or guide us, it doesn't say much about their business if a 20k roof didn't hold up more than a year. We've been maintaining the roof as needed, and contractors are in disbelief how poorly it was done. read more
