Based on the reviews he read here on Yelp he decided to go with Alt Builders and their owner Dan. He contacted Dan and was who responded very promptly on a Sunday afternoon. Dan came out the next day to size up the job. He was prompt and very knowledgeable about what Jeff was looking to have done. The patio door was ordered and came in approximately 3 weeks later. Dan and his crew were able to come out to do the job within a couple of days and completed the job in a day and a half just like he promised. They cleaned up and the installation went smoothly. The price was very reasonable and Jeff is definitely going to hire Alt Builders in the future to get some doors installed. He highly recommends Dan for any work or repairs you might need.

They had to fix a number of issues including dry-rot, lack of insulation, replacing various layers of the exterior around the windows and weather-proofing the house in parts where it was lacking. They came out in a very timely manner to provide a quote. Corvair clearly explains the work he is carrying out and is very knowledgeable at what he does. Their team is hard-working on-site. Upon discovering some further issues, he offered options on how to proceed, some of which involved more work but when he reached those decision points he was very clear and prompt as to what the benefit of the additonal work at the time. I trust the quality and of their work and will keep coming back to Charge Construction. Him and his team do great work and the prices are fair for the quality of service provided. Josh was knowledgeable and pleasant. He was also the only one to point out to me the 2 layers of siding on my home (there was old wood shake under the existing vinyl). I liked everything about the way he did business, so I went with them. The roofing was done in 1 day and the team of 13 guys he had was efficient clean and very pleasant. A Lead showed up for the delivery of the roofing to make sure it was properly placed to protect my driveway. The team that came to do the siding was just as good. They cost between $300-$500 each installed. Over the last several years, I've been a do it yourselfer and bought blinds from Lowe's. Those blinds are not even close to the same quality as what I got from Budget Blinds. It is amazing how much money you could spend on blinds. While it took a while to receive the blinds, the installation was done professionally, and efficiently. Even though, one blind was cut too wide, Kyle [rep] came back and promised to replace it at no charge with the correct size. [I will update my review as soon as the replacement blind is installed]. Please note, I was also referred to a store in North Buffalo/Kenmore. I called them on the phone. They weren't very nice, and I wrote them off. I happened to be driving past the store one day, and so I stopped in and spoke to someone and actually provided the measurements of my windows. I explained to the back office person who was covering for the two sales people who are at the show house, that I wanted to get another estimate. They never called me back! In the store, all the blinds that I was shown were very expensive. High-quality, But 2-4 times the price on average, of what I spent with Budget Blinds. Call Kyle. She was great.

I cannot say enough good things about these guys but I try. I have needed my roof replaced for at least two years.. I couldn't afford it.. Last year the roof started leaking every time it rained I stressed... I hired a no name contractor to at least replace half the roof .. It didn't help . It just cost money .. Finally this year I got enough money together to get the roof repaired.. I should say I thought I had enough money . I called a few contractors to get estimates.. First contractor gave me price I could afford to replace top part of roof.. Second contractor Ava roofing.. Gave me price for whole roof .. And price for top of roof but Tony from Ava told me I can't just do the top I couldn't guarantee the work it wouldn't be water tight .. I would need to do the front replace and repair the work done by previous contractor. . I dreaded the price .. Tony gave me the price it was more than I could afford .. He asked me what is your budget for the job.. I told him .. My budget he said ...ok .. Your roof really needs replaced we will do work for your budget.. I know this is long winded but I feel that if you are looking for a roofer you need to read this.. Tony drew up a detailed contract and went over what they would do for the money.. When we first talked before he knew I couldn't afford it he told me once we strip the roof we might need to buy plywood to replace old rotted wood .. At extra cost .. When we discussed working within my budget I explained that this was literally all the money I had.. If when you strip the roof you find rotted plywood I have no extra.. Tony said ok not a problem there will be no extra no hidden cost the price is the price .. The price Ava accepted to do the top .. Front .four dormer Windows a side and replace the work done by the no name contractor the year before was the same price that the first contractor had quoted for the top of the roof . The roofing crew turned up worked a solid twelve hours from morning till night.. During the day tony stopped by twice to make sure everything was going ok .. His father and two younger brothers were on site all day., when they striped the roof and front they found rotted frame work rotted plywood.. All extra.. They replaced it all no extra charge.. They cleaned my gutters they cleaned up debris left over from the no name guy a year ago.. My yard looked landscaped when they were finished cleaning up., my roof looks amazing. These guys are friendly .. Honest .. Hardworking.. Reliable.. They done work they did not need to do.. They done the work that needed done for my budget not theirs they worked with me .. I can honestly say that never have I felt that I did not pay a contractor enough but when the job was done I found myself wishing I had more money to pay these guys for the work they done.. If you need your roof repaired or replaced call Ava.. Talk to tony you will see for yourself ., at least get an estimate from Ava before committing to another company., Vitally said after the job was done.. We are over a year out from our complete tear off... Our roof was leaking terribly, all 4 layers of it, we called around and had 5 separate companies scheduled to come out to give us estimates for a complete tear off. AVA Roofing was our 3rd and final estimate, we called and canceled the last 2 appointments. The estimator spent time explaining everything to us and made us feel comfortable and assured us that AVA Roofing may not be our cheapest estimate but that it would be our best bet. We called later that evening and said we were ready to sign a contract. Tony came out and went over everything with us. When we told him we had a troublesome neighbor he assured us everything would be handled and not to worry. Due to the extent of our leak Tony put us in as an emergency and his crew arrived bright and early just 2 1/2 weeks after we signed the contract. Unfortunately, my neighbor caused a lot of trouble and delayed completion of the job an additional 2 days, however through it all Tony and his crew remained calm and professional. I am thoroughly impressed. They turned our nightmare of a roof into peace of mind. I highly recommend AVA Roofing - without question the best Roofing company in the area. I was in need of replacement. I called in every major roofer in the area. AVA was head and shoulders above the rest in professionalism and thorough due diligence. They seem to be the leader of the newer generation of roofers in WNY. Sales rep Tony and owner Vik are both stars. Tony has awesome customer skills and thorough understanding of roofing. The owner Vik , like Tony, is professional, wonderfully warm and personable, hands-on, and readily available. He offered thoughtful solutions to a couple of issues. The tear-off crew did a thorough job with exceptional clean-up AVA's roofing crew did an A+ job. Because I couldn't be onsite for most of the weeklong project, Tony and Vik sent me photos and narrated video at various stages. I can confidently say that none of the other roofers would have made this effort! For AVA, it seems to be standard practice. When I returned to the house, Vik came out personally for a thorough walk-through. From start to finish, AVA was passionately committed to meeting our needs and surpassing our expectations. I could not have had a better experience with AVA Roofing. First let me say how professional and attentive they were to my needs. I was given an estimate (much less than my other estimates) and once I confirmed that I wanted AVA Roofing to do the work they scheduled me in right away. I had several other local roofing companies attempt to patch leaks, but only to make them worse. I spent over a thousand dollars with two other roofing companies that should not be in the business. AVA did a thorough inspection of my roof and identified the problems right away. The work was done over two days and now not only does my house not leak anymore it looks like a brand new house. I can finally sleep at night not having to worry about the rain coming in and damaging my ceilings and walls. I was charged even less than the estimate and the staff was very courteous and they kept me up to date every step of the way. I highly recommend AVA roofing for your roofing needs. I had them install a flat rubber membrane roof on a low pitch section and add in some insulation as well. As it met a traditional roof I can review that type as well! The prompt response and customer orientation of all staff from Adam initially, to Sergey thorough out and even calling the office a few times as well as the install staff the experience was great. They have amazing customer service with true honesty. Their pricing is competitive but truly a bargain for their quality of work and customer service. And a day after install WNY weather put the work to the test - I was so pleased to have a dry house and all shingles and roofing still firmly on place with the last 3 months and 4 seasons of weather we've had. The judge allowed me to pay only $2480.89 out of $5000, the amount Ava Roofing & siding Inc claim, at the small claim court only because they did not do the job they are supposed to do, they destroyed my property, they did not clean up the mess they made and they ask "extra money $475" with bad intention in their mind. I've receive the "personal" text message below right after I posted what happened at the hearing. There is no apology for what they did. They only concern about themselves and their profit. "I would appreciate it if you guys stop posting negative reviews. You took advantage of us and now you're trying to put dirt on a company. It cost you $2,500 to get a roof that will last you 30+ years on your part of the house. Have some decency and respect and leave us out of it. My roof was leaking. I had drops of water coming from the frame of my living room window. Due to the tremendous amount of ice and snow that accumated on my roof. I called AVA Roofing and Siding since it stated on their website that they removed snow from roofs. I thought it would take them at least 2-3 days to schedule an appointment with them. The owner stated that he would send one of his men to remove snow from my roof the same day. I had to leave early on that day because I wanted to empty the buckets that I had placed under my window to catch the water drops. When I entered my driveway, one of their men was already on the roof completing the work. He was almost finished. He was very professional. Thanks very much for this effort on your part. Finally, I've received the judgment from the small claim court. The judge allowed me to pay only $2480.89 out of $5000 the Ava Roofing & Siding Inc claim. The amount is after deduction of not installing Ridge Vent as they estimate, purchasing a roof warranty they are suppose to provide, replacing a hydrangea tree they destroyed, cleaning up the gutter they put all the removed old roof in. She also dismissed their claim of $475 extra money for obvious reason. I chose the Ava Roofing & Siding Inc only because of all the good reviews I saw in Google, but they look very, very, very suspicious now. I witnessed they lied even "under oath" at the hearing. They are the kind of people who say anything, do anything for their profit. They are "the greediest monster" I've ever seen in my life! read more

It helped streamline things with the insurance company immensely! He sat down with me and took the time to explain things to me. Very friendly person! Easy to work with! The team came in and got right to work! They were done with my whole house, including the garage, and shed, by the end of the work day!! They cleaned up EVERYTHING!! I was extremely impressed! I recently had my roof redone after some storm damage. Called 3 contractors. AVA was my first choice from online reviews. Tony the owner called me back and was out to my house the next day. Tony was great. Answered all my questions and even some insurance questions.I received a formal quote the next day. The other contractors were higher in price or didn't even give me a quote. AVA showed up with so many guys some of which were Tony's brothers and went right to work. They had so much equipment it was awesome. They were very professional and never stopped working.They finished ,cleaned up and my roof looks great. My neighbor was impressed also and hired AVA to do their roof. Great company! read more

AVA offered a reasonable quote. We compared it with 3 others. They delivered on the date they promised. They have the best equipment I have seen. Especially the dumpster on hydraulic lift. This means no old shingles or plywood is thrown into the shrubs. The dumpster is at gutter level. AVA has the best, largest, well organized team. The site leader is a family member and owner. He calls down the measurement for plywood, second person measures and cuts; next two team members carry the plywood up the ladder. The cleanup was meticulous. They searched for nails and all the foam insulation. AVA got the job done in two days despite 96 degree weather. We highly recommend AVA roofing. read more

Excellent service from start to finish! Very professional and informative estimate with good and prompt communication throughout the process of scheduling. Crew was on time and got to work quickly and finished the job the same day. The best part was the post-work clean up. The crew did an excellent job cleaning up after they finished working, then another person came after they left and cleaned and swept for nails again. The morning after, a third person came and again cleaned up, and swept for nails. If you didnt notice the amazing new roof you wouldn't even know the crew was there at all. Called them in to do a multilevel flat roof on the back addition. The current roof was in poor condition and leaked into the back rooms which were unusable. Gave us two options based on estimates. Tony and his crew were very kind, professional and honest. The original estimate was fair and no one expected to find the amount of damage which added thousands of unexpected dollars to the job. I had to wait a bit because of the rainy spring but it was worth the wait. The foreman Pete and his crew did great work on my full tear off and replacement. They were very respectful of me and my property and did a great cleanup job at the end. Tony made sure to stop by during the job and answer questions and make sure I was happy. What a hard working crew. We had a leak in our roof, and were uncertain where it was coming from. Ava found the problem and did a tear off and replace. Our new roof looks fantastic. AVA Roofing did excellent work on my house in Buffalo, NY. I had the front porch and sides of my gambrel roof replaced, along with the garage roof. It was scheduled very quickly (less than a week!) and they worked very hard to do the best work possible on what was an intricate and complex job. I liked everything about the way he did business, so I went with them. The roofing was done in 1 day and the team of 13 guys he had was efficient clean and very pleasant. A Lead showed up for the delivery of the roofing to make sure it was properly placed to protect my driveway. The team that came to do the siding was just as good. They all seemed very happy to be at their jobs and just did a fantastic job. I had all the windows and doors rewrapped and had all new gutters. My wife and I couldn't be happier.

While the roof was open they installed 6" of cellulose insulation over the12" of existing fiberglass. Happy to say the quality materials and professional workmanship are still there. Mark and the crew kept our house dry even with the unexpected rain during installation. I was happy to see how little ice I had on my roof with all the snow we had in North Evans this year. Jake had an excellent presentation - They were the lowest bidder - The roof looks good and I have not had any issues with it. - Their "A" team came out to correct some issues (the flashing looked like it had been installed by a 4th grader) The Bad: - I was told that a PM would be onsite the entire time. In reality he was on site for maybe 10% of the project - My project was sub-contracted out to a another team and I was NOT informed of this. This became a major problem when I started having issues and could not talk to anyone (the subcontractors did not speak english). Note that Buffalo Fresh Roof is NOT the company you are signing with. The contract is actually with Bors Pros Construction - Within an hour on the first day, the protective tarps had come down and there was debris raining down on my deck and flower beds. When the PM showed up at the end of the day, he said that this could not be helped. Of course, that is garbage - they wouldn't put the tarps up if they didn't have a purpose. Also, this is not what I was told in pre-sales. As a side note, I saw the same sub-contractors working on a project down the street for another company a few weeks later. There were no problems with the tarps on that project. - The roofers decided to try to do a u-turn in my lawn and got stuck (I still have the ruts). They then gave me attitude when I refused to try to pull them out using my truck. - I have damage to my gutters, deck, flower beds and lawn. - I am still finding nails around the perimeter of the house To be fair, the PM did knock off the additional cost incurred in replacing some of the plywood. It wasn't worth what I am going to have to spend in the spring to fix my yard, flowerbeds and lawn - I just wanted them gone.

My experience with this company was extremely disappointing because I was dealing with a warranty repair, not an optional new service call. That should have made the process straightforward. Instead, the experience felt like avoidance, defensiveness, and poor customer service. When a business provides a warranty, that warranty should mean something. It is not just language used to close a sale. It is a commitment that if something goes wrong during the covered period, the business will take the issue seriously, inspect the problem in good faith, communicate professionally, and make a reasonable effort to resolve it. Rather than being helpful or responsive, they were rude and dismissive. The tone was not that of a company trying to stand behind its work or honor its obligations. It felt like they were looking for reasons to brush off the issue, minimize the concern, and avoid responsibility. That is especially frustrating when the customer has already paid and is only asking the business to address a covered problem. The communication was poor, the attitude was unprofessional, and the handling of the warranty issue was unacceptable. A warranty repair should not require the customer to chase the business, argue to be taken seriously, or tolerate dismissive treatment. If a customer reports a problem, the response should be prompt and respectful. Instead, this experience made it seem like customer service ended once payment was received. Problems can happen with any job. What matters is how the business responds. A reputable company addresses warranty issues directly, communicates clearly, and treats the customer with basic respect. Based on my experience, I would not use them again and would not recommend them. Save yourself the frustration and hire someone else.

The quotes were all very similar. The biggest unknown with this particular roof was the damaged plywood underneath. Communication was clear that the quote included 5 sheets of plywood and anything above that would cost more. Well, unfortunately - we did indeed have to have more than those 5 sheets and they came in at a hefty $85/sheet. A bit more than some of the other quotes received. All in all, I paid about $900 more than initially quoted, but the communication throughout the process was good and the quality of workmanship seems great. Hopefully won't have to do this again soon. Also, I live in California so being able to manage this process remotely was amazing and thus a vendor with great communication was much needed. Thank you to the staff at Black Rock Roofing! My experience hasn't been the best…read more The first issue is a roof leak that started 2 months ago. Amherst didn't offer a temp solution and it took them two months to replace. Part of the delay was definitely weather (thankfully the leak was minor), but there was poor communication through that process requiring multiple follow ups on my end so I could have an understanding of progress. The initial estimated time had been 3 weeks (seemed optimistic to me). Two months is obviously a bit of a difference and more than I was expecting, even with weather. Holidays probably came into play, but no communication. Promised communications didn't happen, consistently. I have sympathy due to the weather but the lack of a communication/follow up on promises is a negative mark. Estimate: onsite estimate service was friendly, helpful, and solution oriented. This won me over vs other companies that were "do the minimum" and some just knocked and then left without talking with one that even failed to send an estimate. Pricing was similar to the competitors that responded and sent me a quote. Amherst was only a couple hundred higher. I was willing to pay slightly more based on the positive estimate experience and reviews, but I question the wisdom of that now. Onsite: One of the workers peed on the snow in my back yard. I don't know why they didn't ask for the bathroom, but dude... gross. Don't worry, I didn't photograph. I know people gotta go, been there, but I have a bathroom. Also, my garage door was slightly opened about 6"(currently it's busted because a cable jumped the spool and so it requires work to open and gets stuck unless you work it). It's been closed for days waiting for a warmer/dryer period for me to spend a couple of hours attempting to fix. This makes me suspect the worker who peed in my yard also attempted to access my garage, but my camera didn't capture it so I'm uncertain. Not sure why else it'd be open on the day they did work. It was closed before. Thankfully opening all the way would have made a huge screeching racket, so while I haven't checked I suspect nothing was stolen. They needed a spot for a large dumpster placed in my driveway and cars to be removed. Just heads up that they'll want a dumpster as close to the roof as possible. Colors were slightly different from initial conversations (trim was supposed to be black (based on remembered verbal conversation) but were white. Roof tiles were green and the fact they were a very different green wasn't brought up until installation day. I appreciated it being pointed out but I was a little annoyed it wasn't mentioned on the front end. Cleanup: I didn't understand why reviewers posted about the "good cleanup" jobs of contractors. Oh boy do I understand now. We found 16 nails in our drive way in just five minutes of looking in a 10'x10' space. (Checking this morning: Our deck has nails and in our neighbors driveway I found 4 nails.) Thankfully we still had daylight to check our driveway before parking our cars as I'm pretty sure we'd have lost at least one tire. I'm extremely unhappy about this as magnets exist and can be used to sweep for nails or metal detectors can be used. Those methods would both be cheaper than me replacing my tires and I'd absolutely be looking for reimbursement. Also nails on my wife's office front steps that she didn't notice last night but were twisted and could have caused harm. Her reaction is significantly less calm than my post might indicate as she STRONGLY vented her feelings about it. Thanks Amherst. I had been two stars, but that dropped it to one. I mean, a roof lasting is sort of the bare minimum of expectations. What sucks is that this had seemed the BEST of the contractors I received quotes from and based on Reddit reviews. I've only had a couple positive experiences with Buffalo contractors and I'm not sure if this is a sign of the times or specific to Buffalo. Before COVID when I lived in other states/cities my experiences were significantly better with contractors. Now it feels like there's a bare minimum level of care to do a job well. Paying a little more doesn't seem to have gotten me a little more. Will I use again? Right now that feels unlikely but the other vendors seemed like they would be equally bad so I'd probably check Reddit/yelp for the most recent reviews as things change. At least, in theory, I have a lifetime warranty.
