I needed a roof done for my house in WNY and Black Rock Roofing came highly recommended. I reached out for at least two other quotes, and while the other quotes were competitive what made Black Rock stand out was Joe's continued persistence and communication. The quotes were all very similar. The biggest unknown with this particular roof was the damaged plywood underneath. Communication was clear that the quote included 5 sheets of plywood and anything above that would cost more. Well, unfortunately - we did indeed have to have more than those 5 sheets and they came in at a hefty $85/sheet. A bit more than some of the other quotes received. All in all, I paid about $900 more than initially quoted, but the communication throughout the process was good and the quality of workmanship seems great. Hopefully won't have to do this again soon. Also, I live in California so being able to manage this process remotely was amazing and thus a vendor with great communication was much needed. Thank you to the staff at Black Rock Roofing! Unprofessional, unresponsive, overpriced, rude, and dismissive during a warranty repair. If you value your time, money, or sanity, use someone else. My experience with this company was extremely disappointing because I was dealing with a warranty repair, not an optional new service call. That should have made the process straightforward. Instead, the experience felt like avoidance, defensiveness, and poor customer service. When a business provides a warranty, that warranty should mean something. It is not just language used to close a sale. It is a commitment that if something goes wrong during the covered period, the business will take the issue seriously, inspect the problem in good faith, communicate professionally, and make a reasonable effort to resolve it. Rather than being helpful or responsive, they were rude and dismissive. The tone was not that of a company trying to stand behind its work or honor its obligations. It felt like they were looking for reasons to brush off the issue, minimize the concern, and avoid responsibility. That is especially frustrating when the customer has already paid and is only asking the business to address a covered problem. The communication was poor, the attitude was unprofessional, and the handling of the warranty issue was unacceptable. A warranty repair should not require the customer to chase the business, argue to be taken seriously, or tolerate dismissive treatment. If a customer reports a problem, the response should be prompt and respectful. Instead, this experience made it seem like customer service ended once payment was received. Problems can happen with any job. What matters is how the business responds. A reputable company addresses warranty issues directly, communicates clearly, and treats the customer with basic respect. Based on my experience, I would not use them again and would not recommend them. Save yourself the frustration and hire someone else. read more

BLACKROCK ROOFING did a roof for my 89 year old grandmother and sad to say it was a HORRIFIC job! Shingles started falling out almost immediately and when she would call they would just keep pushing her out and rescheduling while her NEW ROOF was LEAKING so she had to have another company come out and patch and the other company said it was one of the worst jobs they ever seen. All shingles where shot with high nails so high that the shingles are just sliding out, every year more and more so that just after 5 years we need to do a new roof AGAIN! If your looking to get SCAMMED out of ur hard earned money or taken advantage of like my granthen use BLACKROCK ROOFING! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AND WILL NOT USE AGAIN. read more

The work done was good. The man who came to the house to do the actual work was terrific. Polite. Respectful. Clear with what he was doing and why. The cost is where it fell apart. The initial quote, made without even a trip to the roof was x. Reasonable we thought actually. Based on what was expected to be wrong. Then the actual person came a few weeks later. Ladders and all. He climbed up and came back down sometime later. Said that what he was told would be done was not needed, something much more minor was needed. Great! We say "move ahead". A few hours later he was done, totally cleaned up and gone. Great work. Leave no trace theory. Then we got the bill. X + 25%. Really? What for? Less work than estimated? Seriously? Just be aware if you have them for a repair. A whole roof is done by sq feet so won't be an issue I imagine. The price won't change without any warning or explanation. read more

I've waited two years to review this company because a roof has to last. This roof has withstood the elements well. I'm more than satisfied with its appearance and quality. Ditto for the new gutters that were done at the same time. The estimate was true to the final price. This was for a tear off of a double asphalt roof and replacement. The roof replacement went smoothly. As for cleanup, it was clear that this was subcontracted to another firm, and the job was rushed and slipshod. A light fixture was damaged during roof replacement, and their inspector repaired it good as new. Overall, I recommend Black Rock as a solid roofing company. read more

We hired Black Rock two years ago to do a complete tear-off and replacement of our garage roof. The job was well done -- quick -- and the clean-up was excellent. I think our backyard was cleaner afterward than before. We liked the company enough to invite them back to give us a quote when we needed to replace our roof this year. We ended up going with another company. Though we were very pleased with the garage job, there are three reasons for the three-star review: 1. For the garage job, they did try to charge us a few hundred dollars more than the price they quoted us initially (they said they found some unexpected problems that they had to repair). We did pay about $150 more than the original quote. This made us afraid that they would find other problems with the roof job and try to up-charge us again. 2. The estimator who came was polite and on time. However, it was hard to understand his answers to some of the questions we had about the job -- we are not roofers, and it was difficult to understand what he was saying about different materials, and about what needed to be done for the job. 3. This is a big one. The estimate they gave us said there were two layers of asphalt shingles to remove from the roof. The other company (which we ended up hiring) noticed three layers. We didn't want to hire Black Rock based on the two-layer estimate, and then get charged for three after the job was done. 4. This is another big one. The estimator told us we needed to get all new gutters on our house, even though our gutters are pretty new. He said the gutters would get dinged up during the roof replacement if we didn't replace them. I don't know if this was his honest opinion, but it wasn't true. The company we ended up hiring to do our roof (Dalex) did the job without replcaing our gutters, and the gutters still look fine. read more

I hired Black Rock to replace our garage roof, which was in terrible shape. Overall, I was quite impressed with the company. They weren't the least expensive quote I got, but the price they charged was completely reasonable. More important, they were extremely accommodating. I needed the roof replaced pretty quickly because I'm also getting my house painted later this summer. They were able to squeeze me in and even came out on a Sunday to do the work. Pretty remarkable!! Everyone I dealt with was polite. The new roof and gutters look good. And at the end of the job, our yard was completely clean. It did take two days for them to clean the yard -- over four hours one day and another few hours the next morning. My neighbors were a bit unhappy about that, but in all fairness there was a lot to clear out. (I believe that Black Rock outsources cleaning to another company.) I would absolutely hire Black Rock again. read more

Black Rock Roofing replaced our roof in May 2015. Positives: The price given on our estimate was what we ended up paying; there were no additional charges. The finished work looks great. Negatives: 1) There was a large crew of men on our property to complete the work in one day. They didn't do a good job cleaning up after themselves: we picked up a few plastic bottles, quite a bit of discarded roofing material, and a ton of nails (we're still finding nails months later). 2) This is kind of nitpicky, but when they crew finished the job, they left behind a large stack of unused shingles at the far end of our yard. It would have been appreciated if they'd asked us where we wanted them; my husband and I were in the house while the work was happening and they didn't notify us before they left. We had to relocate the shingles ourselves and they were quite heavy. 3) We had written into our contract that they would remove an old satellite dish from the side of the house. This wasn't done on the first visit and someone had to come back later to remove it. 4) It took a few weeks before someone returned to put on our new gutters (we didn't have ANY gutters on our house in the meantime). When they did put them on, they didn't include the gutter guards we had paid for. They had to come back at a later time to complete that task. Then they had to come back AGAIN when we noticed they hadn't put an extension on the gutter on the side of the house so it wouldn't drain too close to our foundation (which had also been written into our contract). Final thoughts: They did a decent job for a decent price (less than other quotes we received), but we weren't super impressed with the service. If you want to P-Off your neighbors use Black Rock Roofing. My neighbor used them to do a tear-off roof job last year. Our driveways are close together without a fence separating them. On the morning the roof job commenced I awoke to see a large and no doubt heavy palette piled high with roofing shingles and another heavy pallet that held large sheets of plywood along with various other roofing materials on my driveway. And their dumpster was on a part of my driveway. I asked the Black Rock guy in charge why they were using my driveway and why would they do so without asking for permission. The reply was their materials will be moved off my property within an hour--but that did not happen. Upset by their arrogance at commandeering my property I was about to call the police. But this is a block where for decades the neighbors are cooperative and lend a hand to help each other. And thus instead of the police I decided to do nothing assuming this would simplify the roofer's task and thereby benefit my young neighbors who saved up a long time to pay for a new roof. Shortly thereafter the roofers began using parts of my front and back yards to stage their roof job along with placing a large generator or other such contraption on my driveway close to my garage. [Think about it--have you ever noticed a roofer who staged a roofing job on a neighbor's property instead of the property receiving the roofing job?] And at the end of their first day cigarette butts and other garbage left by the Black Rock Roofers were scattered around my property. The same story with Black Rock using my property continued on their second work day. I mentioned to the guy in charge I was displeased with how they had left my property the previous day. He promised a thorough cleaning before they left that day. Admittedly they did a better cleanup but thorough it was not. And instead of using my neighbor's garbage totes they placed a lot of cigarette butts, bottles, and other junk into my tote. They had no right to use my tote. As a result I had to wash it out to remove the disgusting strong nicotine smell and Black Rock's garbage limited the space available in MY TOTE for MY GARBAGE. For more than 4 weeks I kept finding nails and little pieces of some type of roofing fabric on my property. And the neighbors on the other side of the roof job mentioned they too found numerous nails over a similar period of time. I recognize and am OK that roofers at times use foul-mouthed words one wouldn't want kids to hear. But there is a problem when such activity is so loud that mothers with young children across and also further down the street complained about the loud dirty language. From this and the other actions described above Black Rock management lets anything and everything go on their job sites. Black Rock Roofers definitely are not recommended. As a side note. I realized after the roofing job was finished another reason why I should have called the police. If that heavy pallet of roofing materials or other actions by Black Rock Roofing damaged my driveway or something else on my property it would have be a difficult and time consuming task to get them to make things right. Needed gutters, roof, a window, tudor trim boards replaced. This was the only contractor out of 6 major companies willing to do this large a project, without excuses and with honesty about possible additional work if rot beneath boards. They were on time, efficient, polite, cleaned up every day, called us ahead to let us know who was coming and when, and did a very neat, professional job on time without additional charges. The estimates were within estimates other contractors gave us for various parts of the job and reasonable, but they were the only ones willing to do what needed to be done, and on time. I would not hesitate to call them again for any other work on the house. These guys do what you want done, the way you want it done, for a reasonable price. They have my vote; I have owned homes for 25 years and have worked with a lot of contractors; these guys are rare. read more

Let me just start out by saying that In my line of work I deal with contractors and roofing companies a lot and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had! Save yourself the headache and use someone...anyone else! My experience with Black Rock started out great, Mark the "salesman" sounded very knowledgeable and made feel very confident with my choice to use them to replace my roof, soffit and gutters, a 15,000 dollar job. So confident I paid for the whole job upfront, which was my mistake. After paying on May 1st, 2015 I was told it would be about two weeks before they could start which was fine. However they didn't start until the middle of June (6 weeks later) after many unreturned phone calls to find out what was going on. So they finally start the job, the first crew that came were the roofers. They were rude, vulgar and had a complete disregard for someone else's property. Five solar lights were broken, my patio furniture was thrown all over the place, gatorade bottles were left in my gutters, in my yard and my neighbor's yards. Red Gatorade was poured all over my front door. My neighbors and I have been picking up nails all over our property for weeks. Everything in my attic was destroyed due to nails, shingles, tar paper and splintered wood covering everything in my attic. Just like the photos that are already posted on here. Again, no communication! I was never told to cover or take things out of my attic, or that there was going to be a huge mess to clean up. We pulled out 5 huge contractor bags full of garbage that was scattered all over my attic. Then about two weeks later the guys came to put up the soffits. They seemed like nice enough guys, they did a beautiful job. When they were done I offered them a beer and they proceeded to show me all the empty beer cans from the beer they drank while working on my soffits two and a half stories up on a ladder. Then they left all of their garbage from the job piled up in my driveway for 4th of July weekend. I had to call them again to have someone come and clean up the mess. While replacing my roof they tore the shingle shake siding off my dormers and around my bay window, another thing I was not told was going to happen. Now for over a month this was left wide open with no siding. I kept calling and kept getting excuses as to why it wasn't done. Finally after many phone calls they came and replaced the siding on July 20th 2015. However they didn't match it to my house. They put plain unfinished shingles up and told me that it was up to me to have it painted. Please see attached photos. I even made one final attempt with the owner David Bly. Begging him to please make this right. All I wanted was the job finished. His reply was: "Tracey, Regards to the attic you were in formed as per our spec sheet and if you supply the paint I will have the siding painted. Let me know David" First of all I was never given a "spec sheet" and even if I had, how could I possibly prepare when I never had any idea when they were coming! The job started 6 weeks late and continued for another 5 weeks one day here or there with no notice or notification. I would just come home from work to find a little more done and a mess to clean up. In conclusion, if you like no communication, bulls**t excuses, your things damaged, a huge mess, incomplete work and want to have a 3-4 day job take 6 weeks call Black Rock Roofing! We hired black rock to replace our garage roof. It was a standard thing I would have given them a 3 star, cause that is a normal job. However, when there were issues (water came in due to an old window) They came back out and fixed it up without ANY questions. When I asked them questions they were helpful and courteous. Instead of going out to home depot to get some wood, they asked if they could use some of mine, I had plans to build a cubby door out of it so I didnt need all of it and said as long as I can build this door out of it they could use it. So they used it and to my surprise, they even cut the door out for me. I would recommend them to anyone. read more
