Just right off the bat, I generally like Saggio's but I will never order mussels from them again. The sauce was broken and half the shells didn't have a mussel inside. I also had to wait 45mins for it. In addition, I had to wait 45 minutes for a creole pasta dish that had no hint of creole about it. Tried this place a few weeks ago and was throughly unimpressed. Everyone has a bad day, so I gave it another chance and it was even worse than the first time. Stood at the counter not acknowledged for almost 5 minutes before someone took our order. My date and I ordered at the same time and same ticket. Mine was done 20 minutes before hers. ( 20 minutes for mine and just over 40 for hers. Am I supposed to eat without her or wait until mine is cold? When we finally questioned, we were told (twice) that's just how they do it. No explications, no apology. Take it or leave it. I finally asked to talk to a manager, just to give feedback, but gave up after waiting about 15 minutes. It was a Tuesday night and not super busy, but seemed adequately staffed. Maybe 3rd time is a charm, but they will not get the opportunity from me. Me and my girlfriend ate at saggios last night and it was pretty greasy compared to other times we've been. Kinda disappointing to have a bad experience at a place we liked so much. I ordered the calzone, and she ordered I believe the seafood 'crio'. I understand that the calzone is expected to have some grease, but dang that calzone was drenched in grease lol. Other than this experience , we've like saggios since we've moved to Albuquerque. Very neat atmosphere, and love that I can watch football/ sports while enjoying my lunch/dinner. Oh yeah, you definitely have to sign up for the rewards program they have if you enjoy the place and will return.. Unfortunately, the two times I've been here I received poor service. For one, the tables seem to always be dirty and the wait time is extremely long. My friend and I ordered two different entrées (Calzone and Pasta) and we only got the pasta. I asked for a refund since we waited for about 15 minutes extra once we got the pasta. Saggio's hasn't let me down since my first $5-meal-seeking trip there as a freshman at UNM. Now, having experienced meals that cost more than $5, I realize just how good Saggio's is for the price you pay. The chance of leaving hungry is slim because each bowl of pasta, calzone, slice of pizza, and sandwich is YUGE. The penne rustica is the best pasta option, IMO, because you get a lil bit of everything -- prosciutto, shrimp, cheese, and bread. The pizza is great, and, dare I admit this, I'm not a big pizza fan. What's also great about Saggio's is that there is truly something for everybody. Pizza and a pint after class? Bowl of pasta for date night? Cramped parking, says 45 minute parking but you wont get your food and have time to eat during that time. If you are a bigger person stay away, you wont be comfortable the seating isn't for larger people. When we first went in the atmosphere seemed good, but for the price go somewhere else. I can't say anything about the food as I have yet to receive it after 40 minutes and decided to go out to the car, it was too hot sitting inside. I wont return. Note my family are long time customers of Saggios @Cornell. Been happy in the past YET definitely not today. We 3 of us got there @ 7:23pm. I was going to order a sandwich they said they had no bread for the sandwiches, ok adjusted. We ordered waited our normal time (about 20 minutes) our order came up. 2 of 3 orders came out. Then my son comes back his order will take about 30-45 minutes. We talked to the mgr the 1st time he said "you should see the kitchen and we are so busy". Got no where. Then I decided this is silly we come to eat together. Talked to the manager a 2nd time and told him we are king time customers and he said "well being longtime customers you should know the calzones take longer ". I told him when does he go out to eat as a family and your food is delivered at 30 minutes time difference. He just wanted to make excuses.. never apologized. I understand places have shortages because of COVID, etc. Yet TRULY IF you don't have bread for sandwiches and get food out 30 minutes apart for the same party- then you (Saggios@ Cornell) has some basic business decisions to make.. only the employee who took out order apologized. This isn't my first experience with saggios, as other people as well I'm sure. But it will certainly be my last visit. I've never been one to be this angry because I also work in the food industry and can understand how things can be. I ordered a pizza and a salad, every yellow bell pepper in the salad had mold on it. I get it, I understand, but I wanted a refund for my time and money wasted. I spoke to the manager John he said his name was, he got extremely frustrated as I was explaining what happened, he claimed he "checks all salads before leaving" which clearly wasn't true, then proceeded to yell and exclaim that DoorDash put molded yellow bell peppers in the salad, at this point I'm not even angry with the mold I'm upset with the way he yelled and hung up. Completely unexpected and rude, I was being calm and briefly explaining what happened. We all make mistakes but the way this guy handled the phone call left me baffled and hungry. If you want to few like you're having pizza in the heart of Italy, there is a fountain and architecture just like an Italian Cafe. And if you are want to get into watching a game, baseball, UFC, basketball, football and other sporting events are playing on various big screens in a separate room that services as both a dining area and bar. 3. The Location - Saggio's is in a great place right across from the main UNM campus. You can have a fantastic dinner, enjoy a show across the street at Popejoy Hall and come back to Saggio's for dessert! My BF and I would drive across town every other week for Saggios but to my disappointment my experience wasn't so great yesterday. The slice of pizza I ordered was undercooked and doughy towards the middle. Needless to say I couldn't eat it. My BF ordered his usual chicken caesar sandwich which was missing the caesar lettuce. It was dry and didn't taste good at all. Usually their pizza and sandwiches are good on busy days but yesterday afternoon when the restaurant was slow I noticed how filthy the place was and that the food was undercooked and missing ingredients. read more

The wacky decor provides a fun atmosphere for dining. Portions are massive, so share an entree or enjoy it as a left-over. The quality was good if you want a casual meal and desserts were yummy. Apparently do not trust the hours posted on this and their website. I arrived with the family late in the afternoon in Albuquerque and was excited to go here with the family. It had decent reviews and was supposed to be open to 11. I packed up the family from the hotel and headed over. People were inside eating and it was only a little past 10 but we were promptly told they were closed by the girl behind the counter as soon as we entered. I really can't stand businesses posting hours then randomly decided to change it at their convenience. I'd love to shut down my store whenever I would like but we have a responsibility to our customers and are there ALWAYS for our posted hours and most of the time beyond. read more

This is by far my go-to place to take all my friends visiting from out of town. Being a grad student at UNM, we're fortunate to have this place next to campus. The artwork is incredible and the fact it feels like a sports bar/Italian restaurant is irresistible! My favorite meal is the chicken Caesar panini with the Caesar salad. I also have tried the calzones and ciabatta sandwiches and they're all amazing! The staff is super friendly too and if you have room for dessert, which is tough, you should try the cheesecake which is amazing! Definitely worthwhile! read more

This one star is for how the place looks cool inside. I came here during my lunch break and ordered a slice and pasta. The cashier took my order and my payment and immediately went to fix my food. He went directly from touching my money and the register and whatever else to placing pepperoni and pineapples on with his bare hands. He also grabbed my bread sticks along with others with his bare hands without washing his hands. With all this Covid going on why would he go straight from the register to preparing food without cleaning his hands ??? Where are your gloves Sir??? I have been going to Saggios since I moved to ABQ in 1998. I have always gotten the same thing--slices and breadsticks. The breadsticks were the exact same dough as the crust and were pillowy, bready logs of awesome. We went there the other night, and I opened the box. The first thing I thought was, "That crust looks strange." Sure enough, they've changed it. =( It tastes like the shittiest quality frozen chain restaurant crust possible. It's GROSS. It's doughy and bland, and the texture is all wrong. I took one bite and nearly horked. I took one more just to be sure--and the verdict is that it is probably the worst pizza I've ever purchased at a restaurant. I seriously think Tombstone frozen pizzas are better than this stuff. It seemed like they changed the pizza sauce, too--this stuff was oddly sweet and seriously tasted like Ragu. So this didn't bode well for the breadsticks, either. Sadly, they're different too. They're really dense and lack the flavor they used to have. Total fail, Saggios, total fail. I'm certainly never spending my money there again, not if they've changed to crappier ingredients. The worst part (besides not being able to eat my dinner because it was effing nasty) is that I had a terrible stomachache from the one breadstick I ate. =( So in a nutshell: bullshit pizza, less than mediocre breadsticks, and GI distress for a full day. We have a new name for this place-"Spaghettios". I ordered spaghetti and meatballs here and it had the most awful frozen food out/of the freezer over cooked damp noodle flavor I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and go buy a Stouffer's frozen entree-it will taste better and be cheaper. They charged me $8.00 for food that had never been loved. The other hilarious thing was that it came with a side roll that was ice cold, they could have threw it in the oven for even 2 minutes to heat it up, I saved the roll and threw it to the pigeons on my way out. Now someone on here said that the calzones are the best anywhere. This had to come from the mouth of someone that has never had a calzone anywhere else. We trusted this yelper's review and ordered ourselves one of the calzones that came with four different types of meat. The meat was all gray inside and tasted really old and cheap. I don't know where these people are getting their meats from, but I have a feeling a lot of people walk out of here with a destiny of possible food poisoning. I get that people go here because it's close to campus and the pizza probably is decent enough to get you through a meeting with your fellow grad students, chased down by a beer. The problem with places like this is that they try to have WAY to many things on their menu, and the quality of everything goes down. Also, the people that work here don't seem to care much about the food or you, so again you have a plate of $8 food served to you without any love at all with a cold roll thrown on the side. I think Albuquerque should demand more of it's food establishments-food can be fresh, there are grocery stores everywhere. Steer clear of anything from here besides a slice of pizza-they don't know what they are doing in the kitchen. I generally dislike Saggios for a host of reasons, and seem to find a brand new one each time I visit. My most recent experience involved getting two slices of pie and a a chocolate dessert canolli. The pie was served with the cold, gross toppings and they completely ruined my two lukewarm slices. Also my 'server' (ahem, incompetent snot cashier) was too lazy to walk from the counter to the dessert tray to serve the food I had paid for when I ordered. Instead, I was told I needed to 'wait for my dessert until after I was finished eating'. It took me almost 15 minutes and waiting through the ordering line a second time to get the cannelloni I paid for. Same story with my drink too. In all, I feel like this restaurant is a glorified taco bell with clueless staff and really weak processes. The ownership seems not to strive to do better and the turnover of staff makes improving them next to impossible. I've lost my patience with this establishment and it only serves to re-enforce the idea that "You just can't find good pizza in Albuquerque". Parking is a real pain in the ass, and to pay for parking and dealing with the snot kids by UNM just to have an experience like this makes me want to be kicked in the crotch a few times instead of eating here. It's the same story with Fastinos on Juan Tabo. PLEASE go elsewhere. Nearby Mario's on 40/San Pedro and Even the California Pizza Kitchen Yuppie-triscut pizza-salad atrocity is better than this crap. It's sad if pizza can be outdone with a triscut wanna be slice. Verdict: More incompetent wage slave push around at outrageous prices. I long for a Dions across the street from UNM. At least Dions has some training programs to train the Smug burqueno incompetence out of the staff. Saggios seems to embrace it. It's obnoxious. It's expensive. It's terrible. F-. Crap. So this is my very first review on yelp. Until now I never found it necessary to have a yelp account. Today, however, I felt compelled to give my opinion on this wonderful place. Saggios is a very comfortable and fun place to enjoy some genuine Italian cuisine. Not only does the owner have a flare for eclectic decor, he excels in utilizing 80 year old family recipes to give the place authentic flavors found no where else. From the wonderful marinara sauce, to the decadent desserts shipped exclusively from Chicago, it is without question that this restaurant takes extreme pride in their product. Many of my co-workers love this place, I've always been mystified as to why. The best reason I can come up with is because they went to UNM across the street and have fond memories of going here as starving college students. The pizza is not to my taste at all, with rubbery cheese, lots of grease (bad grease, not good grease) and a ho-hum crust. What non-pizza items I've tried are also all ho-hum or outright bad. The food tends to take forever, whether or not they are busy, and the I'd rather drive across town to get Mario's than drive the one mile from my house to go to Saggios. read more

HOWEVER, I do wish the crust wasn't so doughy---I hate thick crusts beside Chi-town style--- and the sauce and other ingredients are all of the Domino's/Papa John's variety. In fact, eating here reminds me very much of eating at either of those major chains; the food is tasty, but not in a unique way at all. Saggios is a great NY Italian restaurant in the university area. They have a great selection of pizza, sandos, pasta, salad and beer! Dough is awesome and is a perfect medium/Neapolitan crust. Sorry Dions but Saggios beats you in pizza quality... A tip I would give is to order a pizza or calzone- slices are made on already cooked cheese pizza and then tossed in a warming oven- quicker but you loose some of the quality as well... My favorite dishes include the green chile penne alfredo, tilapia, and of course the pizza/ calzones. They have excellent dessert as well. Cheesecakes, tiramisu, and the highly coveted cannoli. Saggios has the ambiance of a sports bar, and the tv room along with the frank Sinatra music can get overwhelmingly loud. Don't expect to come here for a quiet meal. It can also be very packed on certain nights- so food may take a while- my advise is order ahead or come back when it's less packed. The inside is designed with great detail, from murals on the walls to statues of the sultan of swat( Babe Ruth). This place is truly a unique gem in the heart of Albuquerque. read more

I asked about it -- the guy acting like a manager -- could only respond with we are busy. I told him the people in line behind me already got food -- he didn't seem to have a response. I asked him for our money back so we could leave -- after some back and forth he issued the refund.
