    The new renovated checkouts stations

I have never cared for this Safeway. I'm not sure what it is but I do know that part of it has to do with the customer service. It's always seemed kind of dingy and as you can expect the prices are through the roof. I did go there today since I just needed a couple of things and noticed that they had done almost a full renovation. It looks better. The prices are still high and the meat counter isn't open yet - as it is still being constructed it appears. Safeway is Safeway, and this is probably my least favourite one.

The Safeway I use to stop by years ago on Davie is no more. After lunch, stopped into the Safeway on Robson to buy some candy bars. First off, garage parking is free for two hours. Moving conveyer belt-like walkways gets you to/from the upper floor. Found a stash of Aero bars (0.50 to $1.99), Reese's Sticks ($1.89), and KitKat ($4.69). For some reason some candies, frozen treats, and milk taste so much richer while visiting VanBC. And bonus, The Homie found the Maple Cream Fudge ($4.59) made by L.B. Maple Treat Corporation on a shelf. Something from an earlier family road trip that evidently I fed him when he was much younger. As an aside, Safeway cards from the US are not valid in Vancouver, BC. Very clean, well stocked store with friendly store clerks.

After our dinner at Marutama, we walked around Downtown, I wanted to look for ketchup chips recommended by a Yelp friend and wanted to see if I could browse around for other Canadian goodies. We also needed some snacks and water for our hotel. What I learned about this Safeway is the discounts are already included, vs back in Hawaii we will have to enter our phone number or scan club card. Upon entering I see a nice display of Canadian souvenirs of maple cookies, syrup, and much more. I noticed the Cheetos chips has maple leaves shaped and some of the flavors of pop are different. As I was at the chip aisle I wasn't sure if there are a particular brand of ketchup chips to look for, and asked for help, the female employee that helped us doesn't eat chips and she didn't understand me but she pointed out the ketchup chips in different brands that makes them. I opted for the Lay's brand, we bought 2 bags for our snacks and to try it out. She also shared with us some popular items that is only available in Canada. The employee said she wants to try those ketchup chips too. We got exactly what we needed, no lines when we paid for our items and it was a convenient location.

So I decided to surprise her with flowers. Never having ordered flowers for delivery before, I had no idea where to order from, or who would still be open during the pandemic, but thanks to Issabelle F.'s lists of local businesses, I found Choice Flowers. The ordering process was simple, and the day of the delivery, I received a phone call from the delivery driver asking if I knew my friend's buzzer number. Unfortunately I didn't, and I told him I would call my friend and then call him right back. He said that if I gave him my friend's number, he could call her himself. About an hour later, I received a call from my friend thanking me for the flowers -- she loved them. Apparently, she wasn't home when the delivery driver called her, but she was not far from home, and he patiently waited the ten minutes it took for her to get home -- she said that he didn't want to leave the flowers outside of her building. Great customer service! While the delivery fee of $15 was a bit pricey (the price ranges depending on where the flowers are being delivered), Choice Flowers certainly earned it, and it was reassuring to know that they do their best to ensure that the flowers are delivered. I then ordered flowers to be delivered to my mom for Mother's Day, and this time I made sure I included the buzzer number, as well as her phone number. I have no doubt they will be delivered to her, and I would order from them again.
