This review isn't for the store because this store is great, no crazy long lines and the lady who is the manager who works here is wonderful. I don't usually shop here or Safeway in general, but I have come in to this store more recently for small items here and there. I've noticed there are a couple of prices listed for items, one is the regular price and the other lower priced is for the app. Well sometimes I've gotten away with purchasing something that's on the paper ad (coupons) which the cashier is kind enough to browse through for me and honor that sale price and I appreciate that. However, other times like the other day, I saw the potato chips I needed to get was for $4.99 but the app price was 2 for $6 so I brought the two bags to purchase and it wasn't on the paper ad and the cashier told me I'd have to download the app to get that price. There were people behind me and didn't want to hold up the line so I ended up just buying the one bag of chips for $5. This review is for Safeway because what a hassle it is and very frustrating if I or others don't have the app (or don't want to download apps in general for personal reasons) and can't get the sale price, the lower price. Why does this app determine who gets to pay a lower price on such items? Everyone who sets foot into a Safeway store should have the right to these sale prices and it should be across the board the same for everyone. Why is it discriminatory for others to pay the higher priced items if they don't have the app? Everyone should have access to this sale price not just for those who care to download the app. Not to mention it's so much more work. We are here to shop for necessities and not be on our phone finagling and haggling prices. It's very discriminatory. Also people can choose to do their shopping elsewhere (which is why I choose to shop at a smaller store that has everything too and the same prices for everyone who shops there) - it's tough out there and it's expensive. These prices should be made accessible to everyone who sets foot into a Safeway and given the same low price for all who shop there. read more

Decent neighborhood Safeway. Plenty of parking in front of store and a few spaces on the side of the store. Took a minute to get the attention of the deli staff as they appeared to be restocking items in a separate section of the deli. Service otherwise was good. This employee is incredibly rude everytime i come here. according to her tag she goes by LaShonda. She has poor hygenine and is always desheveled and possibly on something frequently. When she ids she makes very innapropriate comments on customers age and apperance. Including telling you she doesnt think you are young its state law completely unprompted, everyone knows this is a law. This woman will also say we are the same age- im 25, the id shes looking at clearly says my age and shes pretty clearly late 60s. she has some serious issues with her self esteem but should not be making comments to customers like that. read more

This review is purely just about the DELI. I honestly have been avoiding the deli for the last year because every single time I get a sandwich or chicken or one the the side dishes there is an issue. So frustrating! This is the 3rd time in a row it's happened now with their sandwiches, wayyy too small! Literally the size of a soda can. Then for the most part it's just the quality of service you get from the employees behind the counter, I ask politely and usually get an attitude back. Doesn't matter the employee which maybe they all just don't like being behind the counter? Lastly is how just about every single person is trained to make a sandwich there. It's almost like they have never made one for themselves before. How messy the sandwich is, lack of this or lack of that. Today is also not the first time it's happened when they toast the sandwich they're wax paper always sticks to the sandwich or burrito (SEE PHOTO). I would honestly give this deli 1 star but the rest of the store and employees don't deserve that. read more

Staff is friendly. But some of the produce in almost EVERY single pickup or delivery order is spoiled. We also received cans of toddler snacks and baby food in our pickup order that were already OPENED. The seals were visibly broken. Staff at least needs to look at what they're putting in the curbside pickup orders. Broken seals are very easily visible. Just don't give us the product if it's got a broken seal. Makes me wonder how safe the other goods are. Also everything is so overpriced. For the prices we pay, at least give us decent quality produce and don't give us items that are opened. read more

This Safeway store is an older store and my favorite place to shop because it is like a small neighborhood store. The store was recently updated with installation of a couple of self checkout stations that increased efficiency exponentially. I was so happy because if I am just picking up a few items it is easier to check out quicker using the self checkout option. With something new there is always a small period of disruption as customers learn to adapt to the new changes. Luckily there is Safeway Associate, Lorie, standing at the front assisting us with her experience, friendly and encouraging assistance. I like to think I am tech smart, but she showed me a faster way to scan produces much easier way using the barcode on tags instead of looking it up the item on the screen menu. Lorie is fun, tech savvy, friendly and just a great associate Safeway is fortunate to have on their team. I always recognize good employees because we all learned how valuable they are when the Covid pandemic hit. Like healthcare professionals, their jobs were considered essential and they had to carry on even when most people were temporarily restricted from working. We owe these individuals gratitude for their commitment to us during that dark time. I appreciate exemplary associates like Lorie who is always there to assist us with a friendly smile, service and expertise when I screw up my check out. She's the best! read more

The cherries are horrible. Have zero taste. Don't waste your money. They were on sale but they needed to go into the trash can.

I was told that retail grocery stores have a net profit of $1.00 for every $100 of groceries sold. I'm thrilled they can keep up with the demands of the fickle public. This is a very clean store, and the displays are attractive vs the generic displays of Sams Club and Costco. The produce is beautiful. I came to get a fruit platter for my 55th High school reunion, and it was a work of art. We actually purchased a small one the day before, and it was DELICIOUS!! They've lost my business for good here. I live not too far away, so it's very convenient. But, there is NEVER enough check stands open. Lines are way too long with 1-2 cashiers. They work their employees to death. Then there's the bakery.... I've gone in at 8-9 in the morning and there's no donuts at all, sometimes there's even day old donuts. Terrible. I'll give my business to lunardis. If a line gets long they immediately open another check stand. They're a little bit more expensive but it's worth it to avoid the hassle and long lines. Safeway has definitely gone downhill. The last 10 years or so it's gone to shit more and more. All locations, not just this one. Management, wake the hell up, you're driving customers away. I guess WC is full of small Safeways? I like this location. A bit on the small side but it had everything I was looking for. They had some really good deals. When I went in I noticed they only had the express line open and it was filling up. They opened lines as needed so I the checkout was fast. Great parking. The meat selection could be better, but it is small store and the selection covered all the bases, but I could use a bit better selection. Overall a good store! read more

The staff are all helpful, cheerful and friendly. JOE, always helps with finding items in the store and always has a positive great attitude. ABRORA has helped me find green tea and different items. She is also efficient, great sense of humor and always with a positive attitude. MARTY is very helpful and friendly, puts away miscellaneous items and cleans up, quick in bagging, and always puts away the carts on the evening. Cashier didn't say hello. She was dressed sloppy. She was taking sips of her personal drink as she was checking and answering texts in her phone which was laying on the top of the register. She literally tossed my items toward the bagger instead of sliding them or handing them over gently. I paid for four pears and only found two in my bag. The larger bottle of kefir yogurt I bought tasted like it went bad. On another visit to this location the bagger was just throwing my food in the bag. I told her that I would do it because I didn't want my fruit destroyed. Weird ass store and people. Food is so expensive. I don't want my food abused! What is going on? Wherever I go there are incompetent employees. It's scary and sad. So many people in the world. The majority seem incompetent. read more

Well it's Safeway friend! Slightly above average over priced food! Employees are nice. Building needs a little work as One half, of one side, of one of the doors is wooden and needs repair in order to be glass like the rest of the doors. I love Safeway's chocolate fudge cake, and some of the other cakes that they sell by the slice for two. Today I decided to try something new, my first time trying a Tartufo, marvelous! If you enjoy chocolate, and chocolate mixed with other flavors you'll love this! The top layer tastes like chocolate espresso frosting, and the next layer is gooey fudge cake, and the next layer almost taste like a vanilla custard, that gooey chocolate again, and then a layer of what kind of taste like thick and creamy dense chocolate pudding, and then yes bottom layer is that we gooey chocolatey cake! read more

This is our neighborhood Safeway - walking distance from our house. If given the choice, we travel a bit further to Lucky. This is mostly for two reasons. One is that on more than one occasion we have gone to this Safeway with a list of items only to not find one or two things and then having to go to Lucky anyway. The second reason is that Lucky has self check out lanes which I am a huge fan of. I definitely prefer the deli section at Safeway over Lucky. They have a wide variety of soups and sandwiches. I especially enjoy the Chicago South Sider which is made with roast beef, horseradish cheddar and a horseradish sauce. I love horseradish so this sandwich is practically perfect. This particular Safeway recently received a makeover and seems much less cramped even though they seem to have added in more things, like a Starbucks. It is amazing what a little planning and reorganization can do. read more

Everytime I enter an establishment, I know how much I am going to spend, or save, however you look at it (Glass Half-full or Glass Half Empty). So I always come here knowing what to expect. The best change was when they added a Starbucks. Now I can expect to gety cafeen fix from here. The staff is always welcoming, and very nice... This location seems pretty chill most of the time. The lines are usually always long to check out which is annoying, especially if you have a kid that is over grocery shopping. But today was interesting as seeing a sketchy guy walking around, which then saw him grab some things and shove the stuff in his pocket and started headed out the door. I informed the closest staff member I saw and their response was oh uh ya, oh well. Ha interested response to get when you tell a staff member that someone just stole stuff. The store is great, the only thing that bothers me is the Deli. 1. Every single time when I am getting a sandwich, they only help one customer at a time... My favorite "little Safeway'. Does it have the selection of the downtown location? Not quite. But it doesn't have the crowds either. You can actually stop in on your way home from work to pick up a few things for a meal and not get hung up in lines for hours. Just don't stop in looking for some off-the-wall veggies or spices, because they won't have 'em. Since the remodel, the layout is much better and I've found that the variety has gotten a bit better as well. They expanded their "organics" section, which is nice and added a healthier-food aisle, kinda like the big Safeway downtown - but again, with slightly less variety. The addition of a Starbucks is welcomed, though I still struggle to eat my scone, drink my coffee, and push a cart at the same time. (no worries, they have a guy with a mop that will take care of the mess) If you're a regular, the check-out folks know you and many of them have been there as long as I've been going there, so (as depressing as it may be for them) I've got the comfort of a familiar face. read more

I have shopped her recently at this Safeway which is halfway home for my commute and boy do I find there inventory and store so much better than my "Home Safeway" 6688 Alhambra store has sadly left me feeling ignored. Their Meat dept. specifically has VERY rude butchers that keep me waiting ALL THE TIME and are not nice....But RABIA in customer Service is excellent. I recently had a problem and she told me her name and where she is assigned and told me to come see her personally next time I was in the store. She took me right up and remembered me and completely solved my problem. I will shop there because of people like her!!!! She's amazing. SO HAPPY I found this store. This review has been a while in the making. Try as we may, this little Safeway just can't seem to get it right. The final straw prompting this review is when my wife and I ordered 3 large submarine sandwiches to feed our boy's game club members over at the Winslow Center. My wife went to the store a week in advance and was given assurances that the sandwiches she had ordered would be ready the Friday morning of club night. Upon our arrival the lady behind the counter recognized my wife and with a lot of stammering, excuses and apologies, she being the one who had actually taken the original order, admitted the sandwiches were never made. The manager walked over and told us we must be there for three All American Subs. He could have those out immediately, they were in the back. We declined the All American Subs, explaining we had ordered specialty subs. Again, he insisted we take the All American Subs, already on hand. Again, we declined, explaining we had special ordered the week before, specialty subs. We were told it would take 30 minutes to make our order, but the All American Subs were already made. *wink-wink* No dice. We abandoned our cart and left. Other issues with the store that contributed to the buildup of this review are: Employees, presumably thinking they could not be overheard, running down Safeway - not a good place to work. Oftentimes when we walk into the store, as we enter by the Strarbucks counter, the odor of fish can be detected coming from the back. Needless to say, we buy all our fish from Lunardi's up the road. Same with our meat and produce. Speaking of produce... They spray it with too much water, wilting it. Plastic membrane or wrap being left on a cold cut to be sliced, then packaged. Ever bite into a shaved ham sandwich to pull out shaved bits of plastic wrap? It's nasty. The week old end being left on the cold cut loaf, to be sliced off into your half pound of pimento loaf. ICK! We've talked about giving the Safeway over on 6688 Alhambra Ave. a try. We use Safeway for our everyday pantry items. We avoid it for anything fresh. Bad management trickles down to bad employees, which trickles down to hardworking customers. I do wish to be clear here... There are a couple of cashiers who are lovely and professional, who recognize us and who have served us in a professional manner in the 15 years we have shopped there. However, we're looking for a store that is a bit more appreciative of its customers. read more

I live nearby but I would rather drive farther or pay more at lunardis than shop here. They are WAY under staffed, one MAYBE 2 check stands open at a time. Lines are way too long. A lot of the time the shelves are not stocked and they don't have what I need. I don't know what's going on but someone better pull their head out of their ass and get some more help for the people working here. The problem is not the employees here. They have always been kind and pleasant. The problem is they don't have enough employees to do all of the work needed to be done. read more

This is like a hidden Safeway. I was taking a back road to Walnut Creek and spotted it. I needed some things for a work function so I came in. It's an older Safeway. It doesn't have the some of the newer remodeled features other local Safeways have. It was also very clean inside. It's more compact in here but I didn't feel crowded at all. Not to mention it wasn't very busy. That's also very nice. I've decided to stop here more often rather than the new bigger Safeway up the street. read more

Kudos to this Safeway. After a recent remodel, there is more selection and the produce seems fresher, too. This is a baby-sized grocery store (not really a "super"market) but they've managed to get everything essential into the store. The management announced the remodel with great fanfare, including a push to go to reusable bags. For that fact alone, FOUR stars. As an aside, our family hangs the reusable bags on the doorknobs of our home when we're done unloading groceries and then move them to the pocket on the driver side door of our car. We still sometimes forget and have to jog out to get the bags, but it's always worth it. I think we're up to 4 bags now -- 5, if you count that super extra cool reusable bag we got at the Crumpler store. Aside from the reusable bags, the small store has just about everything that you would need. Because of its small size, though, the displays are not as wide (for example, only three or four cans wide on the display), so sometimes it is a little harder to find items. We were looking for the O Organics Blood Orange Soda today, for example, and they were out . . . but we weren't sure that we hadn't just missed the tiny display. While this Safeway is sufficient for every week grocery runs, when I have parties, I will still default to a bigger grocery store (and often to an Asian grocery). read more

I used to live a block away from this store, so it was convenient to get one-off things, or go for big shopping. The store was remodeled just a few months after I moved, so I never had the chance to enjoy the modern store. This store is smaller than the typical Safeway, so the selection is a bit truncated. Generally speaking the goods you buy here are of the same quality as the same goods purchased from another Safeway store. The staff is a different story. Deli orders are like going to the DMV. Smiles and positive communication skills are definitely not part of their skill set. The deli food is usually pretty good, but the people behind the counters lack listening skills. It's frustrating to repeat the same thing time after time, and even more irritating to get the lunch lady look of death when you correct them on something you asked for several times. The cashiers aren't much better. More often than not they chat amongst themselves while cashing a customer out, without ever saying '"hello, how is your day going," etc. read more
