I prefer this Safeway over the CVS next door if not simply because you don't have to call an employee just to get something off the shelf, but also because the same item with be $1-2 dollars cheaper. The honey and I aren't really Safeway people, but we do like how easy it is to pick up the items we need since they have quite a few self checkout stands. This review is for Safeway because what a hassle it is and very frustrating if I or others don't have the app (or don't want to download apps in general for personal reasons) and can't get the sale price, the lower price. Why does this app determine who gets to pay a lower price on such items? Everyone who sets foot into a Safeway store should have the right to these sale prices and it should be across the board the same for everyone. Why is it discriminatory for others to pay the higher priced items if they don't have the app? Everyone should have access to this sale price not just for those who care to download the app. Not to mention it's so much more work. We are here to shop for necessities and not be on our phone finagling and haggling prices. It's very discriminatory. Also people can choose to do their shopping elsewhere (which is why I choose to shop at a smaller store that has everything too and the same prices for everyone who shops there) - it's tough out there and it's expensive. These prices should be made accessible to everyone who sets foot into a Safeway and given the same low price for all who shop there. read more

We arrived early for my dental appointment so we stopped in early to check out their coffee prices. The price of regular Starbucks coffee is the same as it is at Starbucks. Today they had a sale. If you used the digital coupon you could get $10 off a small bag of coffee. Limit 4. We got all 4 bags and saved a bundle. Unfortunately when we checked out, we used our Safeway Card, but it only took half of the amount off. We had to ask for assistance and with a manual override we got the full amount off. My husband said this happens every time he uses one of their digital coupons. It says it's been clicked in the app, but the register doesn't recognize it. So make sure you check your recipes to ensure you got the correct prices before you leave the store or look as it's ringing it up so you don't have to dispute after the fact, and they can just make the adjustment as they ring. Good deals can be had with their digital coupons. I tried clipping the digital deal on my phone, but there was a glitch and I was unable to load the correct location on. It would be nice if you could just clip the digital coupon without having to click the location and it would work at any location. read more

Shopped at Safeway on Bancroft today. At checkout I pushed the button for no donation to the food bank. I give to the food barrel at my church. The cashier then asked if I wanted to contribute to the food bank. My answer was NO. I resented the fact that I was asked outright for a contribution after I already said no. This is one of the nicer and cleaner Safeway stores in the area. Also has some of the cleanest bathrooms. With good ventilation. Which many of the Safeway bathrooms do not have. The people that work at this location are always nice. They have one of the better produce selections in the area as well. read more

I want to begin by noting that this review does not pertain to the hard-working, friendly, and helpful staff at this particular Safeway market, nor to Safeway Freshpass shoppers who prepare orders for delivery. This review warns against signing up for Safeway Freshpass delivery. When I signed up for Safeway Freshpass and paid for a year's subscription, I was not informed that delivery was actually handled by DoorDash. I couldn't/didn't find out how inadequate the delivery service was until I actually used it. Of the few deliveries, most have required me to go out and find the driver on the street, in the rain recently. The street is a significant distance from my townhome, and I have to walk with a cane at 83. I have already contacted Safeway customer service to suggest that drivers use GPS and/or maps. I have already tried to make it work. The last deliverer actually lied to Safeway when he reported he couldn't deliver my order because "I wasn't home." I had hoped the service would be as good as the Instacart delivery drivers who managed to get the groceries right where I needed them, as I had specifically described, in detail, on the site. I had provided the same description on the Safeway Fresh Pass (DoorDash) site. Safeway tells me that I cannot get a refund for the subscription. It took just a little while to realize that Safeway Fresh Pass - Door Dash delivery would not work for my needs. This review hopefully informs other elders and people who rely on door-to-door deliveries, as promised, that it won't happen anywhere near reliably. I will also add that if they are retired and on a limited budget, they should definitely not risk their expectations of fair play from Safeway or DoorDash. No refunds will be forthcoming once you discover what actually does/does not happen. read more

IMHO I don't normally shop at Safeway even in my hometown, but I was visiting my sister. I came here for a few shopping trips on her behalf and found the store to be very bright, clean, and organized. One young man could see the puzzled look on my face as I was searching for a particular product. He asked if he could help, and then sent me directly to the correct aisle! I like coming to this location. This Safeway has a lot of what is advertise in their ad especially the sales that is on Friday. Most of the stuff runs out before the day is over. This Safeway apologize for the advertisement that is sold out. I love how nearby there is a CVS Pharmacy, Panera Bread, and Jamba Juice. It is located in a nice area with places to eat at. Parking will not be hard to find. I will admit when I come here for $5 8 piece Fried Chicken and $5 Sandwich they turned out well. The sandwich is made perfect and the bread is not hard. I don't get a perfect sandwich at the Ygnacio Valley Rd location (I don't hate Ygnacio Valley Rd location) but I feel like this location is my back up. I will come back here again. read more

Love the new store however service is lacking. I acknowledged one employee with a nod and a smile but was dismissed, and asked another for help but was told to "read the signs" lol. The clerk at check out was inaudible and seemed like she was hardly present. I worked in a grocery store at their age and this lack of attention would never be tolerated or ignored. I went to this Safeway off of Bancroft Rd in Walnut Creek and as soon as I go up to the self-check out one of the ladies with the blonde or light brown curly hair Hispanic looking was staring at me laughing which I'm not sure if she was laughing in regards to a conversation she was having with one of the workers or if it was with another customer, but when she was staring at me it made me feel uncomfortable. I bought a small jar of Hagen Das caramel ice cream with two bottles of listerine mouth wash. I am autistic which is a social and developmental disorder so I process things differently than other people but whether that woman's laughter was towards me or not the store needs to work on their customer service skills and be more understanding of people with challenges and developmental disabilities. Nothing wrong with small talk with customers and having a rapport with co workers but when she stared at me it made me feel like I was the one getting laughed at. So if a store manager would be willing to talk to her to be more aware of her actions that would be great. Also the older woman at the self check out who was helping the guy next to me sounded like she didn't want to be at work in her tone. I just felt really uncomfortable with the vibe of the workers at the store so I'm probably not going to shop there for a while and either go to the Safeway off of Clayton rd or contra Costa blvd close to where I live. read more

I'm going to Safeway shopper for years always enjoy fighting all my produce and most of my shopping here. The customer service and the produce is always really friendly and nice whenever they're out of items I'm always able to ask someone in the department to see if they have any more in the back which sometimes they able to find fresh ones for me. For the most part the store is clean and nice not the biggest organic section but a decent amount to find most of what I'm looking for. I enjoy the bakery too they have a lot of nice breads that my family and I love. Overall it's a great store. read more

CREDIT CARD # DOESNT MATCH RECEIPT!!! The manager at the customer service desk named Trish is very rude and doesn't care who knows that she is rude. She must be one of those employees who can't be fired. I was trying to return a product and she basically said the product I was returning was stolen because I couldn't produce a credit card that matched the last four digits on the receipt. After going back and forth with her insisting the number on the receipt must be wrong, she stated forcefully that the computer is never wrong. She finally rudely walked away to ask someone else and returned and said if you pay with Apple pay (which I did) the credit card number on the receipt will not match actual cc. No apology or nothing. I can see how the average person would not know this but she's the customer service manager. I'm writing this review not bc of the mistake but Trish didn't show me one ounce of respect as a customer and was next level rude and condescending to me. read more

WOW what a nice Safeway so much different than my Safeway in Manteca now why can't we have a pretty Safeway like this one. I never understand how the same store brand can be so pretty and nice in some areas and some areas it's a dump. I hate shopping at my Safeway was giving up on Safeway as I always remembered growing up since a little girl when my dad would bring me Into work with him Safeway raised girl here and this Safeway hits the spot it's so well set up so many selections I never knew existed since my Safeway does not have them. The bakery smelled oh so good and fresh just walking by I don't Have that at my Safeway bakery was so beautifully set up so many selections such pretty cakes on display every aisle I walked through so so well stocked no empty shelves lines moved fairly well found everything we needed and more I wish I didn't live so far away otherwise this would be the Safeway I drove out of my way to to do my shopping. It's great to have a Safeway nearby that's open late hours, in case you're in need of last minute supplies. Shelves are stocked with items advertised in the weekly flyers and aisles are well marked. The later the hour, the fewer registers that are open, so self-check out is a good option. I've always been able to find whatever is on my grocery list, as well as a few good finds. read more

Great experience, the liquor manager Victoria was so helpful. I have been looking all around for a certain of liquor and when I called, Victoria was more than helpful and even held what I wanted. I drove all the way from South San Francisco early afternoon to go see her and she went above and beyond. She deserves a bonus or at least a promotion the very least. I try to shop grocery stores that don't have all Safeways gimmicks: buy four cereals or six soups to get the advertised sale price, BOGO free Signature chicken thighs/legs that include the backbone - I mean - who leaves the back on (obviously for weight)? The digital coupons one must scan in store or download an app for or scan in store, half the time doesn't ring up right. Similar to Macy's, they triple the price and run a 'sale'. Or offer a freebie on the app but it is rarely available after 1st day. There is nothing straight forward about the prices & offers at Safeway stores; therefore, not a fan. read more

I stopped going to this Safeway after a new employee named Lexi embarrassed me in front of a line of people. I had just received a tiger point injection in both hands for pain. I had at least 240 dollars of food. They didn't have a bagger as usual. I was still in a lot of pain and asked if they could find a bagger. She didn't say anything but instead checked out the guy behind me. I was left standing there with everyone in line staring at me. I'm reaching my limit with this Safeway and their EXTREME LACK OF COVID precautions throughout this pandemic! Most recently was an experience at the self-checkout. The self-checkout station we used was closest to where the employee managing the self-checkout area sits. I was the one bagging the groceries so I was approximately 2-3 feet away from the employee. This on-the-clock working employee had their mask OFF so they could eat - literally next to where SO many customers will pass once they are done with self-checkout. On top of that, this employee was repeatedly COUGHING without their mask on. This is absolutely unacceptable and disappointing to allow an employee to act this way and to care so little about your customer's health and safety! Of course I don't know whether this employee is already vaccinated but regardless, especially given the current situation and the fact that they were openly having a sick-like cough, this is not ok. If they need to eat and take their mask off, this should be done well away from customers. I've seen other instances where this Safeway has not upheld COVID precautions put in by the state as well. For example, when there was a rule set to limit capacity and all other stores were counting and limiting the number of customers that could enter, this store did not. In fact, the lines were so long they went from the cashier almost to the end of the shopping aisles. I highly doubt the max capacity rules put in at the time allowed for THAT many customers to be in the store at once. There wasn't even any one at the door checking how many went it, so this store really could not care less. I'm not one to come on here and complain but after multiple instances, I've reached my limit. Whoever is managing this store - please get it together and care for the health and safety of your customers! read more

This Safeway is in walking distance of my home, but I will not shop in here anymore. I prefer the other two safeway's in Walnut Creek. this location has been "remodeled" and is now called a premium store. there's nothing premium about it. There is Airs in attitude that this place has changed from the welcoming store it once was. You want regular donuts? too bad they only have premium donuts (donut's with Captain crunch cereal and heavy glaze driizzled over) for an additional price of two dollars more then the regular Safeway which is explained with a proud glee of "mine not yours." Everything on the left of most stores is now on the right. The spacious self checkout it once had, is now a cramped cubicle where you are hovered over or completely ignore. And watch out because that fruit you are scanning can be taken out of your hand and rescanned and then the clerk has walked off before you can get them to fix the double scan. read more

Wow, talk about hit or miss with this location, especially with all the reviews. I live closest to this Safeway, but ever since Sprouts opened up across the freeway I've been going there ever since. IMPO, I really don't see anything wrong with this Safeway as I usually find what I need, pay, and leave. Ranking-wise, if you were to compare the newer (Contra Costa Blvd) Pleasant Hill location with the severly infected-wound looking (Willow Pass) Concord location; This Safeway is definitely between them. It's as average as the other (Broadway Blvd) Walnut Creek location, but slightly better. The reason I decided to write up a review was because of one employee working late night. I had leftover Indian food, but no naan to go with it. Jim, who searched the new shipment of boxes in the stockroom as well as the special shipments for the deli, at least made good effort in finding it. I come in here from time to time on my way in to work in the morning. Their giant parking lot in the Countrywood Shopping Center usually has a spot waiting for me up front so that I can runin and grab last minute items for our office parties: like breakfast foods, condiments, and even an occasional dessert. It's as easy to navigate as any grocery store, but if you can't find something, there are usually helpful employees not far away. This morning I encountered a nice young man in produce and asked about chopped nuts. He showed me several bags of sliced nuts (for salads) and then asked another employee where additional bags of nuts for baking would be. With their help, I found all sorts of delicious toppings for our staff's good-morning hot oatmeal-bar. Express line was fast and I was walking back to my car in the least amount of time possible, stopping only briefly to fend off the woman who was following me through the parking lot and babbling about her religious literature. read more
