"To maximize your shopping.Foodmaxx" this is always in my head when I think of Foodmaxx. I suppose that's a great sign of their advertising. Okay so, The reasons to shop here are number one PRICE. The prices are much less compared to other stores. Simple, plain layout makes it easy to navigate and find items within the store. Also, it's not hard to walk back and forth in case you miss a fruit and you're in frozen. The food quality is usually good. I say usually because I did once discover a whole meats area with outdated meat over two months old. I had been eating this, so gross to think about. The Manager quickly grabbed a cart and started to remove the spoiled meat. He also apologized profusely to me which he didn't have to do, but showed that he genuinely saw a problem and acted. Kudos to your management for this. The other ugly thing I have seen is the shadow of a rat run under one pallet to another before me. It really got me thinking after I saw this happen.. Oh yasss, looks like they're trying to get rid of these Samyang fire noodles and I'm happy to help them. I've never seen them priced this low, it's insane! Each pack of 5 was only 98 cents, and each cup of noodles was 20 cents. I couldn't pass up this opportunity, so I got 2 packs of 5 and 10 cups. This store claims to be no frills with low prices and it's exactly that. It is also one of the most friendliest establishments I've ever patronized. As I walk around, employees are always stocking, cleaning something, and/or asking me how I'm doing or if I need help finding anything. The tri-tips and pork shoulders are a couple of favorites. Excellent produce. My required items are always stocked. The cashiers are fast and they're friendly, and sometimes the lines are long but that's just the way it is.....the great prices make up for it. read more

Bugs in the rice I came here on a whim the other day. I noticed the rice was so much more cheaper than other stores. Well now I know why. A couple of days ago, I go to use the rice bought from this food max on Clayton road in concord, and it is FILLED with rice weevils. If you don't know what those are look them up ( I didn't know what they were prior to buying rice from this store and discovering them). I had to throw away about 90% of my pantry goods because of this. On top of that, they had ONE cashier for literally (not being exaggerative) 30+ people. Some people may not appreciate such attention but would one rather have a cold employee and you're just another customer? Dominic deserves accolades. I went around 5pm on Sunday 6/12/22 and shopping was fine, but when it came to check out it was bad. My total check out time from getting in line and after I got the receipt with the time and it was 15 minutes. There were only two (2) checkers and someone behind me counted 20 people in line (probably 10 in each). This Foodmaxx doesn't have self checkout. I dislike that, but it's closer for me to hit a bunch stores at once. If I was able to self checkout I would have been done in five minutes. Terrible. I now know not to head to Foodmaxx at 5 pm on a Sunday when everyone is shopping for dinner. read more

What a horrible experience. And what a rude manager Bryan. Not only he's rowdy with his employees, but rude to customers as well. Today lines were out of control. This guy decided to assist a person who goes on cutting line fake threat to go up to corporate to have him forcefully return half-eaten food tray COOKED! After people expressed their concern, he said I DONT CARE FOR LINE. LET ME ASSIST YOU FIRST since you want to go up to corporate. He started taking pictures on the counter, holding up the line, which is backed up. He never greeted other customers or being sympathized with the long wait. He was screaming across the store as if other employees were servants. I I've been going to this store for the past 20 years. I may not ever return to this store as long as they have this rowdy undeserving manager there. read more

Best place in the area for cheap, high-quality produce. I make trips here once a week and can load up a big canvas bag full of good stuff for less than $15. Decent prices on meats, too, if you're okay with non-organic and god knows what else. I regularly get large packages of Foster Farms chicken there for less than $2/lb. and pop it right into the freezer when I get home. Also a great place for bagged spices (if you're buying McCormick you seriously need to stop), cheap baked goods, and whatever else you may be looking for. I also love buying dried pinto beans there for $.89/lb, and bags of masa flour for homemade tortillas. Lines move along at a decent place, and more often than not I get a friendly face. Bag your own, and because this is Concord, they still provide plastic bags. I'll be back! read more

Okay, that does it. I find myself comparing every grocery store with this one, and I split most of my grocery shopping between this and the one on Monument, yet I still hadn't done a review for Food 4 Less (this location was a Food 4 Less, so even thought it changed to a Food Maxx years ago, I still call it F4L). Well, now I have. I'm so practical I drive my wife crazy. I don't care about the color scheme, greenery, layout, brands, or if they're playing the latest muzak. I just want good food at a low price, and to be able to knock out as much grocery as I can with one stop. I get all that at Food 4 Less. A big selection goes with the big square footage, I get everything my family needs here. Occasionally another store has better prices, so I'm not such a loyalist that I'll go here instead. But for the most part, this is my go-to place for food. If I'm in another city, I go to their F4L/Food Maxx too: the San Leandro location on Lewelling if I'm coming from the airport, the Stockton location on Fremont if I'm going to the grandparents' house, the Fremont location on Fremont Blvd. if we're in the area, and I'm sure I'd stop at the one in Oakdale on our way to the Sierras if we need to. Other items: It's a safe area. Good staff. On a section of Clayton Road with every kind of store and restaurant you need, stretches for a mile, so this cuts down on the driving. But it's the prices that do it for me. In this Depression, we need all the edge we can get, and F4L offers that price edge. So go ahead, speed past that Safeway and go here, and buy yourself something nice with the money you'll save. read more

Yesterday I had to shop for my elderly mother in Concord at Foodmaxx, on a Clayton Road. People with their kids coughing like they had bronchitis, with no masks, eating sellable food from the produce area. Multiple family members shopping together & coughing continually on different aisles without masks. It was by far the most stressed I've been while out of the house since SIP started. I was honestly shocked at the blatant disregard for others well being & health. This is unacceptable for your employees and for the community as a whole. read more

I was pleasantly surprised visiting my neighborhood FoodMaxx! I have only had experience with other Food Maxx locations in the Tri City area of the East Bay (Union City, Fremont) and those were all pretty similar. Often disorganized, extremely slow check out lines (usually like 2-3 lines less than should be open due to lack of employees I believe), and dirty/unkempt aisles and food areas, and the worst part was the very poor produce sections. This FoodMaxx completely exceeded my expectations and more. The store was very organized and had aisles that were easy to access (the past stores have had aisles that sort of lead you around the store and it was frustrating when you had one specific place you were trying to go), the produce actually looked very nice (although I didn't buy any this time), and the check out lines were quick and efficient! I also found that the canned and boxed foods were significantly cheaper here than the Safeway down the street from my house. For example, a can of black beans was only $0.89 vs $1.29 at Safeway. Corn was even cheaper at $0.69 per can vs $1.29 at Safeway. They all had good expiration dates, and there was a ton of supply so I was able to stock up on some of these items that we use often. The discounts at FoodMaxx are always good, so this wasn't as much of a surprise, but I can say the overall experience here was better than I've experienced before, so I told my husband we have to open ourselves up to shopping here again now that we've moved! I bought redish and washed it and eat it. within 2 hours, I have got a really bad food poisoning and throwing up all night long, that I thought my intestine comes out of my mouth!!!. In the morning I called sick to work and I called Food Maxx on Clayton rd. numerous times, they didn't answer their phone, then I have called the corporate office I talked to a man whose name was Caden and told him what happened to me and asked him to make sure to take the product (Redish) out of the store and I asked them to call me back and tell how the corporate will handle this issue to prevent getting sick some else, but he never called me back or even an apology being asked. No more bins and baskets of clutter to block your shopping cart on a busy shopping day. Employees are generally friendly and helpful. This is a great quality business. As their ad proclaims, FoodMaxx is "cheap!" Items are not of a very high quality, and the staff seem barely awake, but damned if the place isn't cheap. This is definitely the place to visit for packaged items: dry goods, baked items, frozen foods, etc. As long as the expiration date hasn't come and gone, you'll be safe with these. Prices are usually much better than you'll find anywhere else. Much of the produce has an anemic appearance, but you can often find a few gems. Some of the meat items are fresh, and some are a frightening grey color. The thing to avoid at FoodMaxx? SEAFOOD! Yeah, it might be cheap, but please resist the urge. Ewww I can't believe someone said they buy fish here! Fish is probably the one thing I WON'T get from Food Maxx. It just does not look good, or fresh. Go to the Concord Produce & Fish market or Costco for fresh fish. Anyhoo, I love the prices at this place. Everything is a buck or 2 less than Safeway. I can get a cart FULL of groceries for under $150. This used to be a Food 4 Less but Food Maxx bought it out about 2 years ago. I like Food Maxx better...we used to call it Disease 4 Less cuz the meat section smelled like rotting meat. Nasty. But the meats at Food Maxx are (mostly) fresh & of good quality. Sometimes you can find a piece of meat that is grey in color but yet somehow is still out on display. Choose carefully! I love that they have a huge Mexican section & also pretty decent sized Asian & Indian sections. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a foreign country when I shop here cuz everyone is speaking languages other than English. You can usually find some interesting products from around the world that would cost twice as much at Safeway. The other reason I love this place is the never ending cereal aisle! I am a cereal fanatic & I can always find a few of my faves here on sale. Can you get a box of cereal at Safeway for under $2? I think not. I shop here for my racks of spareribs for my smoker, and it's really inexpensive (~$6 for a rack). And I'm not sure if it's a testament to my awesomeness as an outdoor chef or the quality of the meat, but everyone who eats my smoked foods is surprised when I tell them that I buy from FoodMaxx. Everything else is reasonably priced, most notably the beer. I love beer. I love it when beer is inexpensive. Beer is inexpensive at FoodMaxx. Therefore, I love FoodMaxx. The employees here are friendly and so far, all of them seem to know where everything is located. I've been able to get in and out of the store in 30 minutes each time I've visited, and I always find myself shocked at how little I've spent. As with any other FoodMaxx, you'll be bagging your own groceries here, but that's how you save a few bucks - you don't have to subsidize the baggers in the overall cost of your goods. Food Maxx is one of my favorite supermarkets because everything is cheaper here than it is at other supermarkets and you don't even need a card or to enter your phone number, the savings are automatic. This Food Maxx also has the best nacho cheese and other mexican items to make mexican food. It also has a lot of things that other supermarkets stop carrying. The veggies seem to be fresher too and a lot cheaper. read more

I was in buying some things , and a man was in front of me in line . This man had an odor, well after this man leaves the EMPLOYEES start making fun of this man .. I have a love/mostly hate relationship with this particular foodmaxx. The prices are decent, and the store is relatively clean, but the two things that make me avoid this place, almost compleatly, are the employees (all the way up to the manager) and the lines. I think it's compleatly rediculous for a store that big that's constantly busy to have only one, on a good day two, cashiers. I don't go at crazy times or anything either. I mean, if it's Sunday around 5:00pm, I'd expect more than 2 cahiers. The reason they get two stars is the convienience and Ryan, the only nice employee I've encountered here.
