So many Safeways in this area! I stopped by this one for lunch on a Sunday, grabbing a sandwich from their deli. Two employees were working the deli, and the one who helped me was an older lady. While she made a tasty sandwich, she needs to listen a little better to customers. I know people can be difficult and frustrating, but I really don't need a deli worker arguing with me in disbelief about not wanting mustard or mayo on my sandwich. I cannot be the only person alive who likes dry sandwiches! The store overall is small, but clean. I noticed a few items I can find easily at other Safeways weren't in stock here (for example, my regular Safeway carries 5 flavors of Arrowhead sparkling water, this one only carries 2). For grabbing a few quick basics, this store will do just fine - but for a more involved grocery trip, I recommended heading elsewhere. read more

I have been coming to this Safeway for god knows how long and today, for the first time, I was told that my 12-pound Shih Tzu wasn't allowed in the store. What kind of intolerant, dog detesting grocery store is this? After coming here regularly to do my shopping with my dog (as Safeway employees clearly witnessed me walk through the store), never has any employee decided to say that my dog was not welcome. In fact, on numerous occasions, Safeway employees asked about the dog, giving him lots attention. Seems rather contrary to their "store policy." But today, some power-hungry women cashier told me that me was not welcome. That's fine, we will shop elsewhere because you know what, Whole Foods is better anyways! I hope all dog lover boycott this store because of their intolerant dog stance. read more

While the selection at this Safeway isn't the largest and the lines at checkout can get lengthy, the store is close to my house and has most things I want in a grocery store. Positives: + Fresh Produce + a well-organized layout +friendly and helpful staff, +ample parking +it's quiet, +fair prices. Never never never enough checkers I'm not sure what the problem is with this place. 90% of the time they only have one lane open. I left the other day when the line went from the first check stand all the way back to Starbucks. They kept calling additional cashiers to the front, but no one would come. read more

Being new to the area I was looking forward to having 2 Safeway's near by to choose from. Overall I like shopping at Safeway's but this store is not my favorite of the two. They have the worst check out lines of any Safeway I have been to. I thought it was just the time of day but no, any time of day I have shopped they have very few lanes open. I have experienced on multiple occasions checkers calling for back up and there was no response. This surprised me as my previous experiences with other Safeway's have been the opposite. I have had good experience with the quality of produce. The back corner where the salads are is a busy yet small area and it gets packed with carts and shoppers too often. The meat department is tiny compared to other stores. I will continue to shop here based on the convenient location but I hope management makes changes to the check out lines. read more

I don't know what it is about this location but it has a horrifying blend of people in it. That being said, I would not recommend coming here one minute after 10 pm; last time I did there was a man in the bakery section, reaching his grubby hands in boxes and shoveling cookies into his mouth. When I told the staff about it they didn't seem to care in the least. Oh well, I tried. There was also an assortment of people walking around muttering to themselves...I only come here because I have to. And believe me I dread it every time. This is a smaller Safeway than most and thats probably why I like it so much. There isnt usually a crown of people and I can get everything that I need on most trips. My biggest complaint with this store is their lack of meats at times. The staff is friendly, for the most part. Careful that you don't get stuck in line with the very nice, but very very slow, older clerk. read more

Be patient with any male clerk at the cash register. Today I had the pleasure of having the male clerk yawn non-stop, and I mean at least 6 times, back to back. Then when a customer complained he asked his manager to switch places with him. I guess at Safeway the moto is that the CUSTOMER is a nuisance and a pain! Two weeks ago, another male employee was hugging a female employee from the back and it looked very awkward. Actually he may have been humping her. Who knows what goes on there. Consistently underwhelming Okay: Safeways are about convenience. But they are extremely disappointing if you are looking to prepare a good meal. Actually, they are a bit worrisome if you are committed to good nutrition. This one ranks near the bottom of the barrel., even for a Safeway. This store is good for cleaning supplies and competitive prices for jarred or canned goods. Otherwise, should be reserved for emergencies. Not a bad place to run in and to get some cut flowers: their flower selection is far far better than at Lunardis both in selection and quality but definitely in price. Actually occasionally tasteful aesthetically pleasing arrangements are available. Ample parking and a genuinely lovely check out staff; always friendly and helpful. The bakery selection is awful; just awful. The only decent items are the prepackaged commercial items. The stuff baked on premises is horrible. I can't imagine eating any of the cookies or cakes which appear to be toxic. Produce: overpriced and usually tired. The occasionally found bags of lemons or avocados are a good deal though. You can find many herbs, but rarely basil, and when you can its highly priced and blackened around the edges. Dairy: few items available that aren't full of bovine growth hormone. Many of the items are from thousands of miles away, not sourced by California producers. In other words, the chances that they've warmed up a bit and then been re-refrigerated is quite high. I would not buy the Lucerne (Safeway brand) dairy products as they clearly are not bgh free. No thanks. Meat: hmm. The premium brand organic chicken is about the only thing I'd trust here. Otherwise, you must travel to Lunardis unless you want to play Russian roulette with your health. Everything is prepackaged; they aren't cutting and wrapping it on site. Again, likelihood of greater age, and inconsistent refrigeration is high. Seafood: absolutely not. First of all it's likely farmed (goldfish, in other words) and was dispatched/dressed/packaged DAYS ago. Yikes! The deli case scares me. Nice nice service personnel, but presliced cold cuts? Can you say bacteria? All the salads uncovered behind the glass cases so that they are mingling flavors (and not consistently well chilled, and prepared of low cost ingredients). Severely disappointing array of cheeses. The wine selection is about 99% undrinkable plonk. They have lots of hard liquor, LOTS. That is at competitive prices. They also seem to have a decent array of chilled beer. The alcohol selection reflects the Safeway assumption about the neighborhood's demographics. And, it only draws a working class clientele as a consequence, even though it is in the Poet's Corner section of Pleasant Hill, which overall is pretty affluent. The Poet's Corner set is required to drive to Lunardi's in other words. This is a good place to get packaged rice (and a nice array of rice choices); cans of beans or tomatoes (not a large variety on the latter), jarred tomato sauce, jams and peanut butter. If wanting to get salsa they only have medium and mild (guess Safeway marketing data doesn't support that this neighborhood likes spice). Vinegar, ketchup; interestingly Grey Poupon mustard is about $2 more a jar here than at Lunardi's, though Best Foods mayonnaise is a good deal. Canned olives here are a good deal. Also, decent prices on real maple syrup. I don't eat much frozen food: peas, corn, and frozen fruit (e.g. blueberries, cherries, rasberries) are at competitive prices. I recently noticed frozen artichoke hearts and was astonished that they were for sale here. Amy's frozen burrittos, when available, are far far cheaper than at Lunardis. Lots of prepackaged, unnutritious frozen dinners from which I avert my eyes; it's like looking at food porn. I don't buy "convenience" foods, but this location has lots of them. And snacks. Lots of snacks. And they carry lots of soda pop, but no boutique type brands/diluted and colored high fructose corn syrup, in other words. They clearly have gerrymandered to a certain demographic. My strategy is to buy produce at the Pleasant Hill Market (when not wanting to get fleeced at Lunardis) to buy meat/seafood and specialty condiments at nearby Lunardis, which has a decent (not great bakery) and more high end items. Food is supposed to be about good nutrition and not economy in my opinion: When economy and convenience become the priority you are eating factory produced food with marginal nutrition. Where's the joy in that? Meals are supposed to be fundamental to the family's cohesion. read more

This Safeway is great if you just need the basics but beyond that you are better off going somewhere else. They have their own small lot which is easy to park in and the store itself is rather small. It is stocked well and the staff is friendly though you can tell they work for a smaller store and aren't the most efficient and personable. They have a Starbucks inside and a small deli. I come here often since it's the closest to my house but if I'm ever trying a new recipe or looking for something specific and special I'll go to a different location. read more

Mainly come here because it's close by and they have pretty decent selection of fresh flowers! Lots and lots of parking space, no hassle there! Hot food is plentiful in selection and great in price, especially on Fridays. Like most people say, this is a medium small Safeway in size. However, it still has all the selections you will find at a bigger Safeway, and has all the basic departments. Staff is ok here, not really too helpful, but then again never really needed much help. Usually know what I want and get out. Oh, they have starbucks inside, so that's definitely a huge PLUS. Also they have Redbox here too, just like in most. One machine, but sometimes I drop by this Safeway just to go there because most people going here are elderly and they don't use that Redbox machine, so you will always find a full selection of new movies here! read more

This Safeway is pretty small. I noticed that their selection is not as extensive as the other Safeways in my area. The aisles in this store are pretty tight. The store layout in general is tight! Parking can also be a pain. As I was shopping today (Tuesday, 7/14/15) an employee was walking behind me. You could tell that he was in a rush because he was "tailgating" behind me (talk about personal space). The employee could have easily went around me, but no, he decided to continue tailgating me until I got to the cashier. I felt as a Safeway employee, that was really unprofessional of him! I have NEVER had this kind of experience at the other Safeways in my location. read more

The deli needs to get it together! Never any management or supervisor. My ongoing experiences in this location have been outrageous over the passed 3 years! Especially when trying to find food right after a funeral! I arrived early this afternoon and asked for a dozen fried chicken pieces for a first responder get-together only to be told, and I quote, "oh sorry, almost every piece we have is burnt to the crisp and I don't want first responders to get that. It will be close to 45 minutes before we can make it right." I asked if ham/turkey sandwiches would be a faster alternative and told "oh no, that'll be closer to an hour easily and you should be smart enough to call that in ahead of time" I mean...really? Thats how you speak to customers??? Just pay extra for the pre-packaged stuff since there is no sense of supervision here. read more

LOVE this little store. They may not carry as much as Bancroft or Contra Costa, but the selection more than meets my needs...without the overwhelming size of other stores. I can buy ten items in five minutes...and there is ALWAYS close parking. Staff is friendly, with almost negligible turnover. AND A STARBUCKS! We usually shop at the Safeway in Lafayette, but they were out of several items we were trying to purchase. This store had everything we were looking for. Lafayette always runs out of Semifreddis Baguettes, but this store was fully stocked. A little out of the way for us, but fewer people and shelves fully stocked. read more

Just moved to the area and I am so disappointed that there is not a good Safeway by me. This one is small but has bigger problems than that. Sometimes I come here while on my run to get breakfast for my kid. You want to know what someone doesn't want to stop and wait at the check stand for 4 minutes before you finally have to ask the person at Starbucks to call someone over. This has occurred twice now. I get that it is early but figure out some type of alert system to know you have customers. Also, every time I go in and try to use Apple Pay they say some times it works, some times it doesn't. The cashiers just kind of shrug there shoulders. This has gone on for months. Apple Pay only works on one check stand. Hey how bout you fix that. And maybe in the meantime you can even put a sign up alerting the customer to that fact. Management is severely lacking. read more

Overall this a good Safeway, not too busy because it is off the main routes like Contra Costa Blvd. However I want to warn everyone to avoid a certain checker because he operates so slowly that he should work for USPS. He doesnt wear an apron or name tag so I will identify him physically. He is middle age, wears glasses, has mustache and dark hair with mid tone complexion. If you value your Sunday hours do yourself a favor and avoid him like the plague. Even an adjacent line 3 times the length will move faster than his. With this tip you can get in an out with relative ease compared to many of the other safeways in our area. read more

I can't stand coming to this Safeway. The service is always awful! One time the cashier was clearly stoned and charged us for 20 avocados instead of 2... huge difference. Avocados aren't cheap so of course I noticed that the price seemed high (like the cashier) I understand that people who shop at this location are regulars and the cashiers run into a lot of families that they know, but multiple times I have waited in long lines because they stand there and chat with their friends about personal topics instead of keeping the line going; this is really frustrating. read more

This review is for the deli not the store itself. I was so happy to find out that this Safeway is only about 100 feet away from my new job location. I walked up to the deli and immediately noticed how immaculate the deli counter looks. All clean and very visually pleasing. The sandwich itself was AWESOME. I got my usual turkey bacon avocado. The turkey was freshly sliced and tasted like Thanksgiving turkey. Every part of that sandwich was pure deliciousness. Plus it was bigger then the sandwiches I normally get at other Safeways. The only real down side was the woman who made my sandwich was all over the place. Almost like she was nervous. Then when there our three or four people in line behind me she insists I pay there even though I tell her I can pay up front. I look forward to coming here on my Sundays though. read more

People at the deli who make sandwiches are rude. It's like they don't want to make you a sandwich. Whenever I go there they say their microwave doesn't work. Whatever they use to heat up their sandwiches they always tell me it doesn't work. I don't want a cold sandwich. Treat your customers better not everyone wants a cold sandwich. Learn to smile or go back to school if you don't need this job. Get the machine that heats up the sandwiches to work already. You must be lying because I know Safeway can afford to fix that. Hate to bring down the average, but I'm not always a fan. Tonight was an example. Been shopping here for six years and always use my club card. I stopped in to get a few things and realized I didn't have my "big" wallet with all the cards. I recite all the possible phone numbers (going back 20 years in the area) and none of them pop up. Don't know if she just couldn't type or what. So I walk out because two of the items were club specials and the saving was about $6. No offer, no other suggestion - if I didn't say forget it and walk out she still would have me there spitting out combinations of seven digits! Has everything you'll need except ethnic food. Used to shop at Sprouts and Lunardis. No need to do so now. Very easy parking. Rarely crowded. Has a decent organic veggie section. Has discounted meats and fish every day. 90% of what I need, I can find at this Safeway. And yes the deli section has a woman named Flower. Says hello each time i come int he store. I have had Safeway Delivery and had been satisfied with the service until the last six months. It seems they really don't want to have this service or really don't care about their customers. My first major complaint is delivery this I have many times had the four hour window and still had the food be delivered only after five or six hours. There are times I have other plans and need the delivery at a certain time so I pay over $12 to get it here at the one hour window. This Saturday I needed it at between 2pm and 3pm. I got a call from driver saying could get there until 4pm. Driver arrived at 4:45pm. I will say that the drivers almost always are polite and helpful in every way, but my problem is not with the drivers. My problems are as follows. One: I make the choice about whether I want to allow substitutions or not. They seem determined to sent me what I did not want no matter what. I order sharp cheddar they will send my mild cheddar. Or something completely different. I ordered a 10 oz. Caesar Salad and got a small 6oz. And though the salad was suppose to be still good on the package the lettuce was spoiled. Two. Safeway products are not always of very good quality. I ordered a coleslaw which had no cabbage in it. The cabbage had been replaces entirely with onions. Three. The sheet you get when delivered is almost impossible to read, it is the same as you would get at the register, but has no order to it and has all the discounts listed in between the items delivered, It takes thirty minutes for you to see what you really got in your delivery. Four. Customer service. Only available at store hours and it takes sometimes to over an hour to get a hold of them. With the most horrible sound which I guess is suppose to be music, but it is the sound of someone hitting a harp five times and then you get a voice telling you hold on. Five. When you get an customer service rep. They are usually very pleasant and if you are still pleasant after an hour waiting will be very helpful. Unfortunately on my last one I got the worst rep I had ever had. I had been in hold for over an hour. Had a meal ruin with onion slaw not coleslaw after had waited almost three hours on a One over delivery time. Made it sound like he was doing me a big favor by reversing other delivery charge and the bad slaw. I said I think I am going to quit having the delivery service and he basically said who cares. I am handicapped so I really need this service and I have never written a bad review before, but I have now. read more

I come here to shop whenever I want to avoid the crowds at Countrywood Safeway in Walnut Creek. While this store certainly doesn't have the breadth and variety of choices I can find at Countrywood, they still carry all the essentials and more often than not this Safeway is nice and quiet, just how I like them. read more

I enjoy shopping here time to time, lucky's is closer to me. I love how nice the store looks, and they carry some brands that lucky's does not. It is smaller and not as many options.
